When I read the Synopsis I knew instantly that this was going to be a very interesting and intriguing read and it certainly was and more. It exceeded all my expectations. Highly recommend!!
The first thing that captured my attention was the Eloquent writing throughout the entire book which was filled with a great sense of attention to detail and atmospheric precision and parlance. I couldn't put it down.
The Four character POV's of the narrative had me in wonderment and enthralled by the story and how it was going to end. I found the plot to be cleverly developed and structured which kept me captivated and guessing from start to finish.
Wonderful storytelling with twists and turns and gruesome scenes, I was taken to a dark and puzzling world in this murder mystery thriller. I loved it!!
SPOILER FREE! What can I say about this book? There is so much to talk about.
Starting with the characters, they are so well developed that as a reader you can physically see them and feel the emotion of each character.
The plot was outstandingly original. Whilst most murder mystery crime novels follow the same tropes, Firth bought in a whirlwind of story making it unique and interesting.
The pacing of the book is so well calculated and had me wanting more and more from page one.
The themes in this novel are dark, gruesome and confronting. However, Firth uses these themes to his advantage to not only push the story further, but to bring an ever so pandemic to light, shining a flashlight on a certain class of people and their struggles.
I am a slow reader and I like to enjoy my time reading, I sometimes leave a book on a certain chapter and return to continue to read when I want to treat myself. That was until Enigmatic. Every chapter had me absolutely enthralled, I was hooked from the end of the first chapter and this continued chapter after chapter. Being a slow reader, I finished this book in two days, as I couldn’t put it down. Every chapter ends with suspense and leaves you desperately wanting to find out what happens next.
Enigmatic is an extremely confronting, roller coaster of emotions that doesn’t let in until the very last page. I loved every moment of the story and fell in love with particular characters. Highly recommend. For anyone who reads fictional crime books, this must be put at the top of your list.
Obsessed. This novel had me by the throat and replayed in my memory for days and days after finishing it. I found myself having to put the novel down in certain points so I could regain my composer. I suspected there would be a twist at the end, but nothing like what I actually got. Twist after twist after twist. I was quite literally left with my mouth wide open and on the edge of my seat.
Please write a follow up. I'll be the first to buy it.
And yes, when I finished I went right back to the beginning and read it all again, this time paying attention to the details I'd missed. This is like an impossible jigsaw puzzle that the author has put together. His/hers timeline must have taken him/her a long time figure out and not have any plot holes.
This is a good first attempt at crime fiction with an unpredictable finish. Writing from many character perspectives gives the novel a modern feel. It would make a good telemovie - the style of which appears to be the strength of the author. It suffers however from repetition of phrasing and numerous typographical errors - it would have benefited enormously from better editing. Still - a great initial attempt by this young author !
Not a book for the squeamish but so well written and such a clever plot that I think anyone reading it will forget to be uncomfortable. Written from different points of view and in part written as a story within a story it amazed me the way it was compiled. One wonders all the way through who did what and what happened next. Who did what and when, you will have to read it and find out!!!!
This book pulls you in so quickly, it’s like a trap, once you get into it you can’t stop. So many questions all throughout the book and cleverly answered at the unexpected ending. I love the two mixed genres (you’ll have to read to find out what I mean) it gave the book some breathing space in between the rougher chapters. Michie and Zak love is real!
