In the book Breaking Through by Susan B Nixon we meet Gloria Emerson and Jack Griffin Jack is a millionaire and Gloria although doing OK in life is traumatized by her impoverished upbringing. When they start seeing each other due to Gloria taking in body a stray dog they found while leaving the hospital he finds herself more and more entranced with her as she is with him. Like most good books this review doesn’t do it justice there are so much more to the sweet clean romance it is the second awesome romance I’ve read this week that was an Insta love an actually built the romance step by step which makes for an even more awesome story. I love the Jack and Gloria or young 20 somethings but establish grown adults with the past and I thought Miss Nixon did a wonderful job flushing out their character with such an authentic and believable picture. I also love that Gloria didn’t give up on Ray and she was so family oriented it just was a wonderful wonderful book. I want to thank voracious readers only for my free arc copy via the author please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.
It’s nice to read a romance involving more mature people. I found Gloria’s character extremely unlikable, but did appreciate the flaws in both main characters made them seem more real.
This would work well as a standalone but is better as part of the series. Being able to see another side to Gloria gave some depth to the whole series. I enjoyed how the author made her seem relatable in this book when at a surface level in the others, she seemed standoffish and difficult. I enjoyed this more well-rounded character.
Side note: I received a copy of this book in exchange for a honest review
Was really great, you were drawn into the story. You got to see where the characters came from how what they had been through moulded them into who they are today.
A sweet contemporary romance about finding the right life.
Gloria is a widow looking for security through a hefty bank account and Jack Griffin is the perfect candidate. But through a stray dog and time together shows that Gloria's search for money is deeper than what meets the eye. Can Jack get closer to find out her reasons why? Is he ever going to find love; a person to come home to? Or is everyone out for is money? Which category will Gloria fall into?
2.9 stars
I enjoyed getting to understand Gloria and her motivations for getting to know Jack. I love how honest and independent she is. She a take charge kind of woman. It was fun to see the juxtaposition of her independence but also being a little money hungry.
I love how patient and down-to-earth Jack is. For somebody that has lot of money he works hard and he's down-to-earth.
The highlight of this book is seeing Gloria and Jack build a relationship and become comfortable with each other. They have both had two marriages and each of them was very different from the other, so it was interesting to compare between their past relationships and the one they are building. It highlights how compatible they are with each other.
If you haven't read a blurb of the other two books it may be a little confusing because those characters are side characters and this one. This book is a standalone and it can be read that way but to get the most enjoyment out of this story I would recommend reading the first two.
I'm the author of this book and the Breaking Series.
Breaking Through was a natural evolution stemming from the first two books in the series. Each can be read as a standalone, but the characters all know one another.
Jack Griffin is the father to Tisha, the heroine in Breaking Ranks, and Gloria Emerson is the stepmother to Ted, the cop in Breaking Barriers. This is a later-in-life romance, featuring a billionaire and a woman who craves financial stability. He divorced a younger woman who cared more for his money than for him, so he's understandably cautious.
Although Gloria is extremely aware of Jack, he barely remembers her name. But when a stray dog enters the picture, they are forced into one another's company. Gloria thinks it is her big chance to date a billionaire, and Jack's just worried about the dog.
This was a fun story to write, especially since the stray dog, Buddy, totally resembles our dog, Shep. (Truth - Buddy is Shep. But Shep won't sue me for using him in the book!) I'm planning to have Shep "sign" the paperbacks with a paw print.
ARC Book Review Breaking Through A Novel Written By Susan B. Nickson Fiction - Romance Published March 24, 2023 268 Pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
This is a romance with two older main characters. Both are successful in their careers. He is a millionaire entrepreneur, a widower, a father with an adult daughter, and one of Houston’s hot catches. She is the owner of a furniture business, a widow, has two step-sons, and is looking for a rich man to give her security.
Jack Griffin was an easy character to like. He showed love and caring for his daughter. He rescued an abandoned dog.
Gloria Emerson was not an easy character to warm up to. She seemed needy, a gold digger, and had a strained relationship with her step-sons.
A rescued puppy brings the two together. After spending time together with Buddy, their rescued puppy, and working together on a project, they develop a friendship. Gloria comes to realized that Jack’s wealth might not be the strongest thing that she is attracted to in him.
“I’m feeling pretty confident that I can take on your world. You made me feel that way.”
Enjoyed this sweet romance with mature couple Gloria and Jack. He is a wealthy bachelor and she has had to work hard for everything she has ever had. When they meet through his daughter and her step-son he is not interested but the more time they spend around each other he realizes that she is not like most of the women he meets who only want his money and status. There are some twist that add to the story and draw them closer.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
It can take a little while to get into the book, but once your in you want to know what happens, it's interesting to read about family ties, Gloria's determination to stand on her own feet and the focus being happiness but cooperation is key. Relationships and airing problems to build better relationships, it's refreshing because these things aren't captured and when you add money and luxury to the mix then...
I haven’t read the other books in this series, but I didn’t feel like I was missing out anything by having not read them. I found the story really sweet, and refreshing to have the main characters actually talk through their problems rather than run away from them. A light and easy read. I will definitely be reading the others.
Thanks to Voracious Readers for providing the free copy of this book
Totally an adult fairytale but still a fun read. A strong widowed female protagonist that is misunderstood by her family and a handsome widower who is extremely wealthy leading man meet, oh and there is a dog involved. It is a fast and easy read. You can read this book without having read the others in the series.
A very enjoyable read. A romantic story about an older couple from different backgrounds. The main characters were very relatable. The story was modern and well written.
