The city of Fenwood has thrived under the rule of its beloved Queen, but each day she grows weaker with age and sickness and seemingly no-one can save her. Her daughter, Ivy, has always shied away from her responsibilities and now appears unaware of her duty, turning instead to the pull of the natural world outside of the city boundaries and a growing romance after a chance encounter. As evil, corruptive forces manoeuvre their way into the city, Ivy must choose between love and responsibility, as death and destruction threaten to tear Fenwood apart.
I’d rate this book 3.5 stars. The Pool is an incredibly descriptive story that definitely grabs you from the get go! The main characters are also extremely likeable. The world building is so vivid which definitely helps set the story up and makes this book super immersive.
My only complaint is it got a little confusing with the character povs changing with no clear indication of when they’d actually changed. It sometimes made the story feel a little jumpy. I would’ve loved chapters from one pov at a time
It would be dishonest of me to say this book falls into my normal genre of reading. But Richard paints such a vivid story with his writing that you feel like you’re in the market places with the characters, you feel like you can hear the pool sigh.
If you’re a fan of fantasy I would definitely recommend this book.
