This was a somewhat difficult book to get into as it is rife with domestic violence right from the get go. Millie is a barista where Dr. Williams gets his morning coffee and they have a friendly, flirty morning ritual. When she is brought into Emergency at his hospital after being severely beaten he not only treats her but he unilaterally determines he will be her protector, and she will be his, going forward. It’s hard for the reader to really like him initially as he appears to be not just a customer but maybe control freak and a bit of a stalker in his own right. He is also ridiculously jealous, even of his own best friends! Millie is in a world of hurt, both physically and mentally, and she is naturally a little wary of Ash’s dominant nature. Her life has been one bad relationship after another, can she survive another? When Ash’s “dom” comes out in the form of spanking her, even though violence of any kind traumatizes her, her angst is heightened. However, Ash does everything in is power to help Millie regain her self-respect and independence in all his actions. Their relationship does feature a lot of spankings and some very erotically charged sex. The story really begins with violence and ultimately ends with violence, making it a hard story to read, but even harder to put down. Very emotionally gripping! 5 Stars
