Though this was till a fun adventure with Shee McQueen and Mason, some of it felt a little too far out there. I still enjoyed it and will likely read the next book in the series.
This book starts with a punch and doesn't let go. I loved it. There are several stories running at once, to keep the full on action going. This does mean the story jumps from different character and situation and keeps you on your toes, as long as you stay out of the water you are fine. With so many different cases it never got boring or confusing. Neither did it slow down with some surprising outcomes. There wasn't really a mystery per say with you guessing which suspect was guilty and instead the story and situations just beautiful unfolded. This is book five and I really enjoyed getting to know the background behind one of the more mysterious characters in the series but it does work as a standalone. After the last book (and the upset setting death) I did wonder if the series would continue or where it was going to but I needn't have feared, as the author introduced some new characters (who I think are going to be a handful) and it was just as good. This is one of those series that if the author keeps writing then I will keep reading. Working in a hotel full of mercenaries, that are off the grid and coping with there own difficulties, Croix never expected to find trouble at there door. The hacker she has been using for help with cases has tracked her down and now needs her help, someone is trying to kill him. If she can keep him alive he might just be able to help her find closure over her own brothers death. At the same time with the death of there leader Shee, his daughter needs to step up and take charge of the misfit band of soldiers by solving cases. There first case has her and Mason going undercover at the dock yard where workers are going missing. Will her first mission end in something fishy? Ollie also is on a mission, to bring new blood into the fold but does his first recruit have an a gender all of her own? I was given this free review copy book at my request and have voluntary left this review.
WOW - this book brings a lot of things together. Croix's friend Ethan a/k/a Wraith, is her hacker contact - he's a genius. He comes flying into Loggerhead Inn with a bad guy following him with a gun; Croix takes him out. Two more bad guys come in with guns, and Croix takes them out too. They go to Orlando to pick up Ethan's stuff. They find his roommate tied to a chair and she confesses what she did, and the Argentinian's think Ethan did it. Croix and Ethan head to Chicago to figure this out. They head to Harris' house, and he and his wife are having a huge fight and she comes back with a gun and shoots at him, he shoots back and kills her. Croix and Ethan confront Harris and he said his wife admitted to killing Croix's brother and Travis buried him. Harris sent men to keep Ethan safe as his wife also sent men to kill him. They cook up plan that Ethan was there as an IT guy when Harris killed wife in self defense. Shee and Mason are on a separate mission to figure out discrepancies in shipping company's shipments. They figure out who's doing this and have to save the guy who has already been kidnapped. They follow boat and ram it. Save owner's son. Shiva attacks her aunt Jemisha, who is behind everything. Shiva puts her aunt in a shipping container back to India. WOW - this book is full of everything!
I was so excited to win this giveaway, I read this before realizing I had missed two books in this great series. No matter, the book catches you up, so each could be read as a standalone. But do read this thrilling, quirky mystery. The plot is fast-paced, but great flow. As soon as the action gets too dark, there's hilarious character quotes or funny action to break tension. The chapters alternate in character's perspective, easily adding intrigue. It was all wrapped up in the ending, and I can't wait for book 6! I also liked Pineapple PackPineapple Lies and Slightly Stalky
There is a dead guy that washes up on the beach...with a piece of meat tied to his waist. The team at Loggerhead Inn- a team of mercenaries on the right side of the law- are hired to figure out what is going on. The dead guy was a worker at a warehouse who ended up as the fall guy. A couple of the team go in undercover at the warehouse to try and discover what is going on there. Meanwhile in another case, Croix, who is an assassin is teamed up with a hacker to try and uncover her past. The hacker was the target of assassins that went after him at the Loggerhead Inn. Meanwhile another member of the team, Ollie recruits a dangerous Indian woman who is also an assassin and another story comes into play that has something to do with the warehouse problems but is a more personal story of her own. A bit of humor and funny circumstances for the crew of mercenaries looking to gain redemption and do some good in the world.
In one word, WOW! When you begin the book, you are grabbed and brought into the pages and you never let go until you finish. I had to read it in one sitting, I couldn't put it down. With a few storylines running throughout the book, you are immersed in them. With the hotel, run by Croix full of Good mercenaries things can get rough. Not only does Croix want to solve the death of her brother but now she has to help the hacker who has been helping her with cases since someone is trying to kill him. And with the leader of this group dead, his daughter, Shee has to take over his part and keep the mercenaries in line to help solve cases. This is a fantastic book in the series full of wow moments that keep you turning pages. The entire series is definitely a must read! I received an ARC of this book but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.
Croix has been in each book helping with each case the Loggerhead crew is involved in but she wants more action. We haven't known much about her until now - and we learn the truth about her. It starts when her hacker comes running in the front door with 2 assassins after him. Thanks to Croix's handy weapon, the problem is dealt with. The hacker Ethan and Croix go on a mission to find out who the assassins are and why they are after Ethan. We learn who Croix really is and why she has to hide out at the Loggerhead. In other action Shee and Mason have their own case to solve after a body surfaces with a pot roast tied around his waist. Read the book for all the suspenseful details. I received an ARC and I am voluntarily reviewing it. Impatiently waiting for the next book.
I really enjoy this series! There's always more than one thing going on. The characters are great, there's mystery, excitement, humor (some dark), a bit of romance. The hacker Croix has been using brings trouble to the hotel, they take off together to find out who and why. Angelina gets a job to determine what is going on at a shipping company. She sends Mason and Shee to investigate. Ollie recruits Shiva, who had been a member of the Indian Garud special forces. She has a connection to what is going on at the shipping company and even though she's not been assigned to the job, she is a valuable behind the scenes asset. Start this series from the beginning. Every book is fun!!
Excellent Undercover White Hat Mercs This book is the fifth in a series and it stands alone well. I have not yet read the others in the series, but am planning to start right now! These books are about military veterans who have been injured in one way or another. They have joined forces to undertake some white hat missions because they need to be done. And to make some money. The series is pretty clean and will not lead to nightmares. It also has a lot of humor to keep the spirits light. I really enjoyed this book.
I really wish new books came out in this series more often! This addition was amazing. There was plenty of action and snappy dialogue throughout. The storyline was entertains and the book was well written. The characters, well were true to form. Mercenaries but the good guys, ranging from a one legged Navy Seal to a knife wielding mysterious addition. Croix took a more active role and she just might have a new sidekick. Definitely recommend this book.
I received an arc of this book and voluntarily provided a link review.
I enjoy all the books in this series, but I thought this was the best one yet. Action from the beginning to the end. We learn more about Croix, meet her hacker, Wraith and a possible new member of the Loggerhead team, Shiva. The team is still trying to figure out how to go on after the death of Mick. We see Bracco leaving. I like how there is always more than one storyline running through the book, but the always seem to connect in the end.
Another hit! Loved the stories and am ok with the newbie’s…takes me some time to get to know them. Anyhow, this is coming to be one of my favorite series. You never know what to expect and it’s usually exciting when it happens. This is one of those hard to put down books. You just get so caught up in the stories that you want to keep reading…before you know it, you’re done any waiting for the next one. A definite should read
With Mick McQueen dead, Shee has inherited the agency. Angelina and her are lost with no true way to restart the mercenary business. Mick had all the contacts. Before they could even think about things, Wraith, their hacker came running with two killers shooting at him. Their doorman, the huge Brack was shot. Shee, Mason and Angelina weren’t in the hotel, but Croix killed both of them and the adventures start again.
Once again this author delivers a delightfully chaotic and fun investigation. As Shee and the gang struggle with the Inn's recent loss and grief, new recruits come to the Inn as well as trouble, bodies and for one member the resolution of a cold case. There is fun, love, and intrigue in this book and is an absolutely delightful read.
I read both 4 and 5 in a few days. Both were excellent. You should start with book 1 and meet all the characters. All interesting and different people. Book 5 brought in two new ones which added to the series. Looking forward to book 6 to see what they bring. Highly recommend the series.
I can’t say enough about vansant,s ability to come up with a another fun and exciting addition to the Shee McQueen series. If it’s excitement you want, start from the very first one and don’t stop. Looking forward to next enstalment. Hope it’s not the last one!
Loved this latest installment of a great series that keeps getting better! Unique set up, very funny dialogue, action-packed and really terrific characters I want to be friends with! Definitely should be read in order, though each is a standalone story. Really looking forward to the next one! There will be a next one, right? Bottom line: Highly recommend! Loggerhead FTW!
Angelina accepted a job finding out what was happening in a dockside warehouse company with books that didn't balance. Shee and Mason are on the job. Ollie recruits a new member. Croix and Ethan have their own mess to solve. Lots of excitement as the crew survives another mission.
I positively love Shee McQueen and her mercenary band.. I wish Amy could write faster! Some series get to predictable. This is absolutely not the case with this series. I am always surprised, and love how the story and characters continue to evolve.
Will Shee, Mason, Croix, and the gang be able to keep helping the needy military and keep the Inn open without Mick and his contacts? This book keeps you guessing as they struggle to reorganize.
I love the Pinapple Port series because they make me laugh and have interesting characters and plots. This new series is a bit grittier but also has great characters and stories.
This was another very interesting and amazingly good story! I am at a loss basically because I don't want this to be the end of this series! Hopefully another story will soon unfold!
Shee, Mason, and the rest of the team are hired to investigate the odd situation at a shipping company. Along the way they add a couple of new people to their staff. A great story.
I have read each one in this series but this one made me laugh out loud a few times. I have loved following this story line an look forward to reading many more of your books.
Each book in this series is brilliantly written. The characters stay the same but the storyline is unique. I also love learning more about the backstory of each of the main characters.
I am hooked! Binge reading this series. Thoroughly enjoying it while I wait for the newest Pineapple Port book to come out!! Hope there is more crossover books!!!
This is a great series! Full of funny, zany characters, theres a serious side and a very fun snarky side. The book can stand alone, but i suggest reading in order, you wont be sorry.
