This book starts with a punch and doesn't let go. I loved it. There are several stories running at once, to keep the full on action going. This does mean the story jumps from different character and situation and keeps you on your toes, as long as you stay out of the water you are fine. With so many different cases it never got boring or confusing. Neither did it slow down with some surprising outcomes. There wasn't really a mystery per say with you guessing which suspect was guilty and instead the story and situations just beautiful unfolded. This is book five and I really enjoyed getting to know the background behind one of the more mysterious characters in the series but it does work as a standalone. After the last book (and the upset setting death) I did wonder if the series would continue or where it was going to but I needn't have feared, as the author introduced some new characters (who I think are going to be a handful) and it was just as good. This is one of those series that if the author keeps writing then I will keep reading.
Working in a hotel full of mercenaries, that are off the grid and coping with there own difficulties, Croix never expected to find trouble at there door. The hacker she has been using for help with cases has tracked her down and now needs her help, someone is trying to kill him. If she can keep him alive he might just be able to help her find closure over her own brothers death. At the same time with the death of there leader Shee, his daughter needs to step up and take charge of the misfit band of soldiers by solving cases. There first case has her and Mason going undercover at the dock yard where workers are going missing. Will her first mission end in something fishy? Ollie also is on a mission, to bring new blood into the fold but does his first recruit have an a gender all of her own?
