Gaia and Raoul have recovered from the poisoning, but the assassination attempt has fractured their relationship beyond repair. Dominique has lost his mother, his crew, and his purpose, and is trying not to lose his sister, while playing a dangerous game with the Governor. Salim has confessed his treason and has threatened to eradicate Kayamato with the release of a deadly disease, unless he's given reigning power. Beneath it all, Antione's obsession simmers as he moves his final pieces into place. Will the players be able to fight their individual threats by coming together, or will they be picked off, one at a time, one after the other?
Jennifer Rayes is a Lebanese-American author, born in Michigan, and raised in the mountains of Lebanon. She is the author of Intricate Deceptions, Intricate Intentions, and Intricate Obsessions, the first three books in the Intricate Series; as well as From Within, a compilation of poetry pieces from her earlier years.
This book had some qualms which I understand it has to be done so things can be accomplished. I like the development of the story and ended up with expectations of twists and turns even when it is least expected.
Gaia and Raoul have recovered from the deadly poisoning. She was such a badass taking apart anyone harming her kingdom. Gaia and Raoul was a pair I was looking forward to their relationship which is now frayed after the assasination attempt on them. Dominique loses his mother and his sister is kidnapped, he is on a hunt playing a dangerous game. The assassin has confressed and has threatened to release the deadly virus.
This book is the most action packed. The major characters are blamed, spies are out and loyalities are waged. Intricate Obsessions was an all feeling and intenseful ride. I didn't like the way Gaia and Dominique parted at the end. Is this series the end or there will be another book I cannot tell. I would like one more book just for Gaia and Dominique.
***This author provided me with an e-copy. Thank you for choosing me and giving me an opportunity to read this.***
*The Author ever so kindly sent me this book in exchange for an honest review*
The starting of the book was a bit slow. But, later it got so interesting. I couldn't stop reading cause I wanted to know what happens next. This series is a page-turner, for sure. And the Princess getting closer to a Pirate instead of the Prince is like defying the mainstream, which I so wanted from the start of this love triangle.
There has to be another book coming!! Those two corrupt people shouldn't have never been put in the same prison!! The ending made me angry. Gaia and Domingue are in love and need to put their pride aside!!
Loves this book. This book had so many twists and turns. The queen is trying to destroy and drugs, human trafficking and other despicable crimes in her Realm but at every turn, the bad guys fight back. This book is the best one yet, because the other two book were building up to this book, and I love how it has all came together. Was sad that it was over, but I have a feeling, it isn’t.
Glad I had book #3 ready to start after I finished #2. The only problem I had with the series is that I couldn't put it down and some of my jobs around the house got neglected while I read. Great series, full of action, twists and turns and you never quite know how it will all turn out in the end. A must read.
Well first let me say this... 5 stars if there is a 4th intricate series book coming. If this is the end then consider me super disappointed. I gotta know, is there more coming!?
This book was my favorite of the 3. I love watching Dominique and Gaia figure out their love for each other amidst the chaos. Gaia’s strength and poise grew even more in this book. Dominique gets uncovered bit by bit. We see him much more vulnerable. This book was extremely suspenseful in a great way with a lot of details that all came together in the end. For the last bit of chapters I couldn’t put it down.
Really really hoping the series isn’t over. Many questions I can’t wait to get answered!
I want to know where jack goes and if he comes back now that Carlos is locked up.
I would love some flashbacks... maybe some deeper explanation for antione’s obsession with Gaia.
Obviously want to see what Salim has planned with Carlos. And where’s the governor now??
I would love to see the little sparks flourish.. Kristel and Christian, John and Mella...
Of course want to see Dominique and Gaia find a happy ending. And raoul too. Always love a good love triangle! #teamdominique
Overall: this series is totally worth the read IF this book isn’t the last in the series. If it ends this way... you’ll be disappointed.

I have been gripped by this story since the first book. I have spend the last two days glued to my Kindle. The story is complex and compelling. The characters have depth and I am dying for the conclusion...or just more. I love Gaia's strength and fragility. I am desperate for something good to come to Dominique. I am frustrated that I have to wait for more. Amazing story and desperate to see how it ends.
I received an electronic copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. What a page turner this was. I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book and wondering what was going to happen next. This book had everything I love in a book, exciting action, intrigue and romance. I loved the love triangle between Gaia, Raoul and Dominique. I stayed up late to finish it and that ending was shocking but perfect and left me wanting more!
I don't really know why, but I was sure this book would be the end of the series. Well, it's not! It's everything I expected, engaging, fast-paced, dramatic, but now that I got hooked on the series I just need to know what's brewing next. Oh boy...did I mention I hate waiting? Hurry, Jennifer, write the next one already!!!
The books are fast paced and good. I'm sad that it's ending on a cliffhanger. Gah so I won't know what happens or how it ends til the next book. Would recommend has suspense and a bit of mystery.
Team Dominique or Team Raoul - which are you? I'm 100% Dominique. But enough of that 😋
Great 3rd book in the series, and hopefully the author will pick it up again and give us more! Gaia is substantial and so young, with so much left to do in her life and her rule. And frankly, although I HATE romance stories, the innocence of the romance in this story makes my heart happy. It brings back feelings of butterflies in my tummy during teenage love affairs. It's also lightly interspersed, meaning our protagonist isn't boy-crazy and losing her mind over it. 🙄 Sure, she is considering her feelings and future, but she's focused on her rule above everything else. I can't stand when a book takes a strong female and inserts this wimpy, wishy washy *need* for love. #EndOfRant
The first two books of this series (Deceptions and Intentions) end with some *drama* that made you leap into the next book. This book leaves you with that movie-style ending, knowing the story is resolved BUTTTT ... Yes, Jennifer Rayes, give us more Gaia!!
I will say that the first dozen or so pages bored me. << This a personal thing - I'm reading voraciously to escape life, so I need lots of action and not the easy going background info that takes a little bit to ensure the story makes sense. And yes, without the brief "boring (for me)" info, the story wouldn't make nearly as much sense. But since I give honest and full reviews, I'm mentioning this. >> However, quickly after the background info was done, LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION! The story went back to the fast paced action and thrills.
Great book. This series is one I'd fully recommend. • Strong, intelligent female lead • Action packed • Relevant societal topics • Enough fairytale princess & pirates to make it a fun escape • Well written, enjoyable, easy to digest
A great summer read on the beach. Or winter, bundled up under a cozy blanket with a mug of hot coffee. Or, you know, anytime. 😉
°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°•°• Thank you to the author for giving me a free copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
I was so taken up by the action filled drama in books one and two that I was ready immediately to jump into book 3. Suggestion, read the first three books together, they are short reads. Having read some reviews before I started reading book one, I intentionally didn’t write the review for this book finished reading books one, two and three. Which is a good thing. Think of each book as a chapter, or the books as series 1,2 and 3 in a TV show. In fact the books reminded me of just that a TV show with lots of big moments of drama and reveals. Book three (series 3) much is revealed. The action continues at pace. Some villains come to a deservedly violent end. There is much heart ache as Gaia and her friends continue in their struggle to deal with the villains. And, oh Kobi. It seems from the ending that Jennifer Rayes is not finished with Gaia’s story and there is to be a book four (series 4) continuation. I hope not too long for me to wait. Thank you to Jennifer Rayes for the ARC. The views expressed are all mine, freely given.
This was a fast read, lots of drama, very thrilling. But honestly I’m so mad about the ending. This was apparently the third and final book in the series but I think we need one more to close the loop on a few things.
All I can say is I couldn't put this book down, OMG, action how can the third book of a series be equally better than the first and second book. Deception, betrayal obsession, fear and more. Some question all the way through were answered, to who did it and why. Gaia fights through her fear, and willingness to live, and yes you will cheer her on outloud lol I did 🤣.
I won't go into details but get this series you won't be sorry.
I'm crossing my fingers for book 4, I can see Gaia having to take revenge to a whole new level. Thanks Jennifer 😊
From Binge-Read to Total Obsession I am so impressed with this series. This was an unknown author to me, and an unknown series. Honestly, I think this series has been woefully overlooked simply because this author is fairly unknown. I hope word will get around, though. Because the three books in the Intricate trilogy are unique, well-written, and mind-bending.
This, the last offering in the series, has the reader tearing through the story at a break-neck pace as Gaia, Dominique, Raoul, and the rest of the heroes attempt to finally break the back of the human trafficking ring, bringing the major players to justice. It's not an easy road-it seems like the bad guys have been several steps ahead of them the entire way. It's still hard to know who to trust, even when they think they've got all the spies ferreted out, they still discover everyone is not who they claim to be. But some loyalties remain strong and sure, and the good guys are on the right path if they can just stay strong against physical and mental war that's being waged.
Complex characters and an intriguing plot line combine to create a haunting story that's full of heart, love, and strength. Read this series, then share it with your friends!
Ok so the book is good. The story got tangled with too many characters for a while but I stuck with it to the end. Or i thought it was going to be the end. The books one and two cliffhangers were ok. The third one is pushing it for me. I do want to have an ending so I will read the next book. Hopefully book four will wrap everything up into a nice neat package.
An intense and emotional finale to a series I absolutely loved! The characters' growth, along with their flaws and weaknesses, was portrayed so powerfully in this book. I felt completely immersed in their journeys and emotions. Highly recommend the Intricate series to anyone who enjoys deep character arcs, emotional tension, and unforgettable storytelling!
This series is magnetic in its intensity and is a true hidden gem. It bewilders me when I read mediocre books that have 1000s of 5 star reviews, when series like this barely have any traction. Seriously do yourself a favour and give this series a chance, it is much better than a lot of similar titles in the fantasy genre. It is a light, plot-driven fantasy with a strong heroine and a touch of clean romance that will have a series-long arc.
When I say these books are plot-driven, I mean that they are 90% plot: fast-paced, unputdownable, thrilling, addictive… and, as the title suggests, pretty damn intricate too! The author must have spent years plotting these books as the details fit together and there isn’t any filler. Each plot twist lands with full impact, they make you gasp and think back to any clues you missed that could have predicted that turn of events. There is a complex web of crimes, deceptions, loyalties, betrayals and identities with many twist and turns.
I read a lot of fantasy series and notice that authors often run out of ideas, making later books feel drawn-out and empty. It is the opposite in the case of the Intricate Deceptions series. In fact, I almost missed all the times I’d complained about a fantasy book being boring! I felt the plot in the first 3 books could easily have filled 6 or 7 books, if the narrative had unfolded at a slower pace, with a greater focus on world-building and character interactions. The fast-paced writing style is different from other books I’ve read lately but it made a refreshing change.
The characters are interesting and complicated. They don’t feel as cliched as they could have been (the Queen, the Prince, the Pirate) and they grow exponentially over the course of the books too. Yet I wanted more contact with the characters, more space carved out in the novel for them to just breathe and live. Gaia becomes a strong and intelligent heroine, which surprised me as I wasn’t her biggest fan at the start of Book 1. Also, she changes a lot through “showing” not “telling”, which is a real strength of this novel. As for my favourite character… well, all I will say is that they have their own ship.
One of my main issues is total confusion about the setting of the books; it is a mix of fantasy and modern but it isn’t illustrated clearly enough. I was under the impression nobody had phones, until some of the side characters start using them randomly, but never the main characters for some reason. I was really confused as I almost felt the author should have chosen to either include technology in full, or remove it completely.
The ending to Book 3 left me in tatters. I was under the impression that this was a trilogy, so two massive cliffhangers made me feel cheated. I am keeping a close eye on the author’s page but have yet to see a release date for Book 4. That’s how you know a series is good, when you can’t wait for the next one to come out! My heart aches when I think about all the conversations, apologies, and healing that needs to happen in Book 4 for me to be satisfied with it. Johanne, I am referring to you!
Overall, I feel that these books need a lot more appreciation. They are wild rides filled with unexpected twists, deftly plotted and enjoyable to read. I haven’t been this addicted to a series in a long time, probably since ACOTAR, so the book hangover will be intense.
Kayamato. Flames engulfed the entire bus. King Raoul Delaway, John (advisor), & Chief Eugene Dunford (Kayamato PD) were discussing the deadly infectious disease. Uncle Salim wanted Raoul ousted. Professor Thomas & his team were mass-producing the vaccine. Queen Gaia Delaway & King Raoul Delaway have recovered from the poisoning assassination attempt. What was Captain Dominique thinking about doing? Queen Delaway (Ica) was now like a mother to Emily. Kenza (f, warrior), Bruno (muscle), Marcus (twin brother diversion), & Marius (twin brother, diversion) had been training for quite a while.
C/O Gutro Karavi & Kristel have set up a base for crisis situations, rescued from trafficking survivors & short/long term housing. Barry Milloy (husband, prostitution, sex slavery, & trafficking business) was brutally murdered, Carlos Iberra (drug cartel leader) was still alive. Carlos called a meeting with Rafael, Vito, Don, & Greg (aka Jack). Captain Dominique’s mother had passed away. What did Captain Dominique discuss with Queen Delaway? Salim greeted Carlos Iberra.

A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written suspense book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters & facts to keep track of. This could also make another great suspense movie, or better yet a mini TV series. Left me hanging to be continued? There is no doubt in my mind this is a very easy rating of 5 stars.

I will preference this with saying that I was contacted by the Author Jennifer Rayes to read and give an honest review of her book.
After completing the third book in the series I can say that I have become invested in the characters and the story and need to know what is going to happen next. This book went by fast it seems as there was a lot of different things happening and you can feel the urgency of what the characters are feeling in some of the dire situations that they face. We finally get to see what is up with Antione and his obsession with Gaia and got that finally resolved and closed. But it left at least two more problems (the Governor and the Salim & Carlos team up) that still need to be resolved. We see how Gaia has grown to be a strong leader and do what is best for her people and try to be as involved as possible. The only downside is she has not really had a chance to process and come to terms with all that has happened and we see her reach her breaking point at the end of this book. She is a young adult experiencing the hardships, trials, and struggles that come with being an adult but seems to be lacking the support needed to teach her how to deal with these things. I hope that author will allow her sometime to heal and giver her someone besides Jared to talk to (like a therapist) to help her process and learn how to deal with the panic attacks and all that she has endured. I did not like how absent Gaia's mother seemed to be in this book. I know she has been recovering but it would have been nice to see some parental support, encouragement and guidance to help Gaia not feel like she has to carry everything on her own and be so hard on herself. I am rooting for her and Dominque and hope that they end up together as they both have the same feelings and also some of the same fears about the possible relationship. It is also a nice change from the usual princess ending up the prince story line. As this prince (Raoul) seems to be hiding something. There have been mentions about there being a real reason for Raoul saving Gaia but we still don't know what that reason is. I hope that the author will explain that in the next book as it has been casually mentioned but not been made out to be that big of a deal.
With hours to go before Salim unleashes the virus onto the island of Kayamato and all its citizens, what will Raoul do; give up the crown or refuse and watch his people suffer?
Decisions made, a new course to follow?
Dominique is torn; on the one hand should he hand Salim over to Gaia for her to punish him as she saw fit, or back to Raoul and Kayamato to stop the virus being unleashed? He made his decision. This led to his relationship with Gaia at an impasse – will he be able to get her back. Could he truly commit?
Gaia is still determined to get her task force and new operation up and running to help all the people she can, whilst unbeknown to her she is still a target but why?
Meanwhile Raoul is still trying to tie up the loose ends to make sure his uncle Salim can never get out of prison. Employing a spy in amongst the ranks of the unknown…
My thoughts
The third instalment to this series has tied up a number of threads that were still hanging around from book one and book two. We delve into the seedy underbelly of the trafficking and gain an insight of who is in charge, really in charge. Dominique’s story has come full circle, as has Gaia’s, does this mean it’s just their story left?
It would appear that Raoul and Gaia are really just going to be friends. There is no chemistry between them in this book, whereas we still get snippets from Dominique and Gaia.
There are numerous characters that we find out more about and yet still more questions; will Dominique get the Governor? Will Gaia ever be whole again or did Antoine ruin her? What is Salim up to?
I can definitely say without a doubt that I never knew what was going to happen whilst reading the first, second and third book. I enjoyed the storylines and can honestly say that Rayes grew with every book, although I think it would have been great if perhaps the books were longer, but then we don’t know where Rayes will go from here, there is most definitely another instalment on the horizon; will our questions be answered?
I've finished the last of the three "Intricate" books (#1,2 & 3). Definitely read them in order.
To start with, I'd say that yes, I did enjoy them. They had some interesting characters, and Gaia, a strong woman as the central figure. The romantic element between her and the two leading mail figures was fun, and carried the reader along. There was a lot of action in each of the books. It moved along well. The books were dealing with the evils of drugs and human trafficking which seem worthy of addressing. Jennifer's descriptions of characters and settings were vivid. It is difficult to write longer pieces with lots of moving parts and keep them all coherent and she seemed to be able to do that, so current events were connected to past history, etc. On this basis, I give them the 4 stars.
One major problem I had with the three books was that they weren't complete within themselves. Even in long complicated series like Dune (Frank Herbert) or Harry Potter (J K Rowling) the individual books came to some sort of a resolution within the book itself. I don't like coming to the end of a book and finding myself on a cliff. Even in my life there have been "stories" - living at home, college, young married with kids, 2 years in France .... And the story continues but each separate section comes to a closure. I'm not even sure there was an ending after the third. Perhaps it would have worked for me if they'd been written as Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 of a single story.
I also personally found some of the situations too graphically described. I generally get very much "into" the story, especially if it's well written, and since I read for pleasure, and for escape to some extent as well, I don't like to find myself in such incredibly bad situations, especially when the characters are making choices that I wouldn't make.
Another issue I had, and it's probably me, was the time period. Somehow the descriptions of clothing and being in palaces, and the ships had me picturing something in times past - long gowns etc. I know that the initial rescue had her flown off in a helicopter. But the images that came to mind tended to be "Magic Kingdom" sorts of things. I don't know how else you'd deal with that. It was probably all me. An isolated island of bad guys seemed a stretch if it were a modern times thing. Communication seemed cumbersome for modern times as well.
That was a wild ride! I just finished Intricate Obsessions (Intricate, #3) by Jennifer Rayes, and it’s getting a solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ from me!
This series continues to do what it does best—serve up heart-racing action, emotional depth, and twists that leave your jaw on the floor. If you've been following Gaia’s mission since book one, buckle up. She’s still the fierce force leading the charge against human trafficking, while Dominique is off chasing danger (and the Governor) like a pirate with purpose. 😏
Salim remains deliciously villainous (total Jafar energy), and this book gives us a deeper dive into the lives of Carlos and Antione—especially through the eyes of newcomer Jack. His perspective adds a fresh layer of insight (and a little shade 👀).
Expect the signature Intricate ending: full throttle, no brakes, and plot turns that could cause emotional whiplash (in the best way). I loved the layered themes—trust, betrayal, healing, obsession, and sacrifice—woven through the chaos.
Tropes? Oh, this book understood the assignment: second-chance romance, love triangle with a dash of obsessive ex, political drama, secret identities, heroine-in-peril moments, and enemies forced into fragile alliances. Basically, it’s a tension-filled rollercoaster, and I was here for it.
One heads-up for my animal lovers: there is a scene involving a dead animal. It’s brief, but worth knowing.
Jennifer Rayes continues to build a world that’s complex, high-stakes, and totally unputdownable. If you love fast-paced fiction with layers of emotion and characters who walk the line between duty and desire, this series deserves your attention!
And that, my friends, is today’s tea on “Intricate Obsessions (Intricate, #3)” ☕️
I received the third instalment to the Intricate series from the author in exchange for an honest book review.
I enjoyed reading all three books, however my favourite is still the first! There was so much potential for romance, between the Prince and Pirate, and by the end of the third book, we still have nothing much to go on in that department. I found the lack of relationship-development in this third book very disappointing. The main characters continue to share fairly equal story lines and their perspective is provided in their own chapters. However, the Queen seems to be a bit stuck: she still needed rescuing, she has a serious case of PTSD, and she won't allow herself to explore intimacy for lack of trust. The Pirate's character has really evolved and we gained a lot of insight into what he really does and his principals. The choices made by the Prince in the first book were also explained, lending more insight into his character as well. Both men are Heroes in their own right, but I have to admit... I can't see how or why Dominique would have anything more than an intense flirtation or fling with Gaia considering his line of work and who he surrounds himself with. Raul on the other hand needs to be brought back into the circle of trust and all formalities need to be dropped. He's a Prince and a good guy, and if Gaia and him could talk again, a relationship, whatever that may look like, could be explored.
I will admit, I was very happy to see the main problems and the villains dealt with, although not without some cliffhangers hinting at a corrupt-partnership in the making. I look forward to reading the fourth book when it's released.
