When circumstances force visibly-pregnant Coco to hitchhike on a Wisconsin freeway, she's willing to take whatever help she can get. But the last people she expected were a pair of sexy, mysterious men with some dangerous - and intriguing - secrets.
A unicorn. A forest deity. Stone-cold killers. Her fated mate.
But Coco has plenty of secrets of her own. For starters, she can't be hurt and death isn't in the cards for her.
Oh, and the father of the child she's carrying? He might just be a paranormal being.
The Road Mess Traveled is the first novel in the Loch Mess Baby series, featuring a pregnant main character. This book ends on a cliffhanger, but the series will have a HEA.
Umm I need the next book please because that was one heck of a cliffhanger. I wonder what’s up with jack because there’s a story behind his issues/ himself.
It’s not that it’s a bad book it just doesn’t feel well written or edited. Maybe it’s not for me, I don’t like how one of the guys speaks a little like what I assume a Neanderthal would talk like, I get he’s supposed to have an accent but it just seems like the way he’s written he’s a caveman. I don’t care for how possessive in the triad he is. Or how he talks down to the person who’s his best friend. Honestly I think the main reason I’m not a fan of the book is the writing style, it’s more of a tell and not show. Here’s the info on the fmc, she’s a simple girl who’s curvy but is now also pregnant, she has crooked teeth, and she laughs with her hand over her mouth (all the time). I feel like for being a human there was little to no reaction about learning of this brand new magical world, it’s so odd. She spends majority of her time eating, sleeping, and doing it with her new mate. This book has potential but it doesn’t feel thought out. She got knocked up by a supernatural being who lives in Portland so she thinks hitching a ride to Portland is gonna help her find him…. It’s just so weird, maybe I’ll read the next one, maybe not. Idk I’ve got a lot of mixed feelings on this book that aren’t positive. I’m not sure what the book needs? Maybe a better alpha reader.
The Road Mess Travelled was full of my favorite story elements. There was witty banter, sassy heroines, pregnancy, adventure. Further tropes you'll find: road trip, fated mates, hitmen. There were so many lovely details in this story from the Polish accent that I read all of Alexi's dialogue in, to the fact that Owen was a clean freak.
Each of the characters had strong, fleshed out backstories. The longstanding friendship between Owen and Alexi felt grounded and nuanced, from their mutual loyalty to the minor annoyances that long-term relationships develop. Coco shows a lot of determination and her strength is contrasted with the vulnerability of pregnancy. I mean emotional vulnerability because Coco finds herself physically invulnerable. But the pregnancy details were woven throughout the story rather than used as a premise that was then forgotten.
I enjoyed the author's take on monsters. The world she created was largely our normal, human one. But Owen and Alexi turn out to be a forest deity and unicorn, which are not species I commonly see in paranormal fiction. Not to mention the other creatures they come across during their travel. The story feel tends to run along fluffy and emotionally fulfilling but the paranormal is where some serious darkness creeps in. Be sure to read the triggers.
The cliffhanger is a little harsh, but since book two is out I was able to read right through.
400 stars, this is ridiculously funny, and very spicy in ways I did not expect. I hate that it ended on a cliff hanger, but I'm going to have to get book two. You've got a pregnant damsel in distress (sort of), and 2 paranormal male characters- who can shift in to rather enormous- decidedly not human- males. They pick up our girl while she's hitchhiking to find the father of her baby, and over a short period of time, both of them realize they're her fated mate. being human, she isn't exactly sure about this, and of course the time it takes for her to come to terms with this brings along more and more laughs for the reader. The fact that they both identify her as a "mate" doesn't go over as well as it might in a normal RH type romance and the dynamic is hilarious, and kept me turning pages as both men try to figure out how they are fated to the same person. Not for everyone, but if you're looking for something thats spicy, glittery, pink and kind of twisted, may I humbly suggest this as an option?
I didn’t really know what to expect but so far it is really good, the Heroine comes across a little ditzy and overly trusting which gives a little bit of an ick factor but overall it isn’t too bad. The story has gone from 0 - 200 in less then two chapters, from a pregnant hitchhiker to being mated to one guy, then a few dozen pages later she is now mated to the other guy & neither are the baby daddy…… It’s definitely interesting and has finished on a cliffhanger!! Now I need to find the next book to find out what happens, and how she saves them……
Noooo, why such a cliffhanger? Luckily, I can read the next book right now!
The Road Mess Travel is one of Sylvia Morrow’s books that I hadn’t read yet, so I finally remedied that. I’m glad I did, because I loved this story.
Alexi’s grumpy side amuses me a lot, but, as I often say, I have a soft spot for male protagonists who hide behind a gruff exterior but have a lot of heart. Owen takes great pleasure in teasing Alexi, but as the saying goes, ‘Spare the rod and spoil the child’. Speaking of Owen, he’s another character I really like. His ability to clean everything, which stems from his true form, would be very useful to me. You can also tell that the author had a lot of fun incorporating all the possible ‘clichés’ related to his true nature—and I loved that! I also enjoyed seeing the more fragile side of Owen, who is generally quite optimistic.
Coco, on the other hand, is a real mystery to me. I really need to know where the magic that protects her comes from. I have my doubts, but I need to read it in writing to be sure of my assumptions. I’d also like Coco to be less self-deprecating because I think she’s much more than she’s been led to believe her whole life. I hope that Alexi and Owen can help her to gain confidence—even though it’s ultimately up to her to do the hard work.
This had a definite romcom feel to it. It was very fun and definitely sexy!
I love the unique “monsters” in this story and I love the FMC. She was funny and didn’t take life too seriously. Especially for being pregnant and alone!
Not too much angst and only a little bit of dealing with bad guys. This was an overall light and fun read.
No one talks like the dialogue in this book. I’m giving it three stars because the idea is intriguing, and original, but the writing is so atrocious. The good news is there aren’t spelling or grammatical errors.
This is a paranormal m/f romance, the first in a duo that must be read in order. There’s a HFN and cliffhanger ending. Pregnant lady jumps in a car with two strangers who both turn out to be her fated mates. I thought the story was interesting and easy to read. 💜💜💜💜
