She’s not looking to fix him. She’s looking to love him, if he’ll let her in.

Some facts are indisputable. The sun rises in the east, sets in the west. Gravity exists. Indira doesn’t like Jude. Jude doesn’t like Indira. But what happens when these childhood enemies find the only thing they can rely on is each other?

On paper, Indira has everything together. An amazing job, a boyfriend, and a car. What more could a late twenty-something ask for? But when she walks in on her boyfriend in an amorous embrace with a stranger, that perfect on paper image goes up in flames.

Jude has nothing together. A doctor that’s spent the last three years traveling the world to treat emergencies and humanitarian crises, a quick trip home for his best friend’s wedding has him struggling to readjust.

Thrust into an elaborate (and ridiculously drawn out) wedding event that’s stressing Jude beyond belief and has Indira seeing her ex and his new girlfriend far more frequently than any human should endure, the duo strike a bargain to be each other’s fake dates to this wedding from hell. The only problem is, their forced proximity and fake displays of affection are starting to feel a bit…real, and both are left grappling with the idea that a situation that couldn’t be worse, is made a little better with the other around.

this series has been so unexpected. usually i prefer when an author is consistent across the board, but i have had different reading experiences with each of these books and i think this one might be the best one yet.

the first book was cute and lighthearted, the second book was over-the-top, but this one is very grounded. it focuses on mental health, but not in a gimmicky way. in a meaningful way that im sure every reader will be able to relate to. while i think many rom-com stories focus on the whirlwind nature of romance, i love how this portrays a healthy, working connection between two people. it feels very real and genuine.

so probably my favourite book in the series so far!

thank you, st. matins press, for the ARC!

I’m so speechless! I read three books of the series! I adored them! I want to hug each of the characters and write long sentences to tell how much I loved them but “Plus One” is so much special than the other two books! It’s extraordinary, honest, pure, realistic! Especially if you suffer from anxiety issues, questioning your self worth, meaning of your life, you can easily attach with the characters just like I did! It helps you to embrace your imperfectness and your insecurities!

Everything is written in those pages are like real life stories! Jude is my perfect imperfect hero! His predicaments, his inner tortures, his inner fight, fears, bottled up feelings were so relatable!

And Indira was fiery, smart, perfectionist questioning her self worth. I loved how she acted so patient, caring, neutral around Jude. I loved how she stands next to him when he needs her most, holding him tight with her healing hands, supporting him fully. Because healing him also means healing her self.

I loved their enemies to lovers, fake dating ( even though only people they lie to Indira’s cheating ex and his new girlfriend she’s caught in the act) , forced proximity ( living at the next room and sharing some camping tent) tropes!
And of course I loved the ending with the contribution of previous books’ amazing characters!

I highly recommend you to read entire books of the series and leave this one for the last! ( you gotta save the best for the last) The author’s realistic approach to mental health issues is so inspirational and helpful. Don’t miss this series!

Many many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press/ St. Martin’s Griffin for sharing this fantastic digital reviewer copy with me in exchange my honest opinions and thanks to Mazey Eddings to create those memorable characters earned a special place in my heart!

Loved this one!

I honestly loved this whole series and the stories that were told about mental health. I'm so glad that authors are delving more into mental health, whether it's something that is all consuming or just something that is acknowledged and dealt with on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis. This whole series had both of those scenarios and while it can obviously be hard to read about someone struggling with mental health, it can also be vindicating (definitely for me - this particular book hit home for me many times).

But these two had such a great relationship, and I loved that they pretty much kept their original childhood relationship but then built on top of that. Their love language was roasting each other, and it was amazing and something I wholly identify with.

I also loved that there wasn't a 3rd act breakup; it was more about a big turning point in Jude's mental health and finally taking that step to self heal and be okay with knowing that it was needed.

Can't wait to see what else Mazey comes out with!

A sweet and touching, childhood frenemies to lovers romance with faking dating, which also addresses anxiety and PTSD

After Indira and her childhood nemesis Jude are thrown together for her brother's (and his best friend's) wedding, they unexpectedly team up to become each others fake date whilst they try to deal with their separate issues. But, soon, things begin to feel all too real...

This is #3 in the A Brush with Love series, but could be read as a standalone. I would recommend reading them all though, as the characters all feature in each other's books, plus all three books are so different!

Honestly, this last installment really surprised me! After the cuteness and lightheartedness of the first two books, this one hit me differently. Taking a long look at mental health, trauma, insecurities stemming from childhood, therapy and communication, it felt real and full of hope. It's a lot more heavy and series than its predecessors, particularly Lizzie Blake, and made me well up several times. It was such a journey for the characters, and I adored the way they supported eachother. They were both so brave and vulnerable.

Even though The Plus One was emotional, it was also sexy and funny. Colin's wedding and the preparations leading up to his big day were fun, and I loved seeing Harper, Lizzie and Thu again!

Indira and Jude had some great banter and tension, and there were some extremely hot open door scenes 🔥

This was a great ending to the series, and I will definitely be reading more of whatever Mazey Eddings writes!

⭐⭐⭐⭐

i am in pain. the fact i thought i was over half way done with this and the way my face dropped when i realised i still had nearly three quarters to go🌚

this was so insufferably boring, one-dimensional and lack-lustre.

the writing style made me so detached to the story despite the author’s intent on making this emotional. i felt so distanced from the characters, Jude and Indira were very impersonal and distant to me... i think it’s attempts at being “deep” failed miserably.

and the romance? what romance? Indira and Jude had the chemistry of a Tesco’s meal deal of a ham sandwich on white bread, ready salted crisps and a bottle of water.

they barely interact— Jude spends more time talking in his inner monologue than talking to Indira while Indira spends more time talking to her therapist than she does to Jude.

im so busy right now i refuse to waste my time forcing myself to finish books that are unbearable to read. goodbye<3

The Plus One is the newest installment in the A Brush with Love series by Mazey Eddings. This series consists of companion novels, set in Philadelphia, following a strong and supportive friendship group of women in their late-20s.

Each of the women we meet over the course of the series is incredibly-well fleshed out, with their own distinct strengths, weaknesses and personality quirks.

In this third book, it is Indira's turn to take the leading role. We have met Indira in the previous two books, but it was nice to really get to know her through this story. I've always liked her, after this though, I love her.

This starts off horribly for Indira after she walks in on her live-in boyfriend, Chris, having a bit of a tug and cuddle with a stranger. It's clearly not the first time.

Indira is horrified, she can't believe her eyes, like really can't believe her eyes. Is that peanut butter?! She's ticked, she's done, she wants out.

Quickly packing her things, including her adorable cat, Indira races over to her brother, Colin's, house, heartbroken and distraught. Well, maybe not heartbroken per se, but definitely distraught.

Adding insult to injury, when she gets to Colin's she discovers his best friend, Jude, is currently staying there as well. Ughhhh, life is unfair.

Of course he is. With Colin and his fiance's wedding rapidly approaching, of course Jude would be there, it just couldn't be worse timing for Indira. She can't stand Jude. Even growing up, they were always at odds with one another.

Jude, a surgeon, has been traveling the world for the past few years working in the most dire circumstances, war-torn and impoverished communities; humanitarian crisis zones. Returning to the United States for Colin's wedding, Jude is having a hard time adjusting.

He's suffering from lack of sleep, paralyzing guilt and anxiety stemming from the things he has seen; the patients he has lost. The last thing he needs now is Indira.

While Indira is happy to have a place to go to escape Chris and his new lady friend, that doesn't solve all her problems. Chris is friends with Colin and part of the wedding party.

With many pre-wedding events planned and the actual event itself looming on the horizon, she's rattled with anxiety, how can she possibly face him?! It's going to be awful.

Knowing of her predicament, Jude feels for Indira. He's not heartless. Together they form a pact to fake date over the course of the wedding festivities. It will be great for both of them to have support during those events.

Indira has noticed something off about Jude since he's been back. She's hoping she'll be able to provide some help for him if he begins to get overwhelmed.

As Indira and Jude spend more time together, it becomes clear that maybe their opinions of one-another have changed. It's hard to deny the spark that fires between them. Will it last, or will it fizzle out once their need for fake dating is over?

Mazey Eddings is becoming quite the star in my eyes. My goodness, this series just keeps delivering the steam, the humor and all the feels!!

I loved both Indira and Jude. I also love how Eddings brings real-life issues to the page for her characters. No one is perfect in these stories. Everyone has something, sometimes multiple things, that they are working on, or through.

I was again impressed with how quickly Eddings is able to develop such flawed, sympathetic, witty and charming characters. It's gripping right from start, mainly because you get sucked into the characters lives.

Jude's story. in particular, I felt was incredibly well done. It was powerful, hard-hitting, eye-opening and honestly, quite serious. His PTSD was laid at your feet. It's a heavy topic to tackle in an otherwise funny, romantic story.

I thought Eddings did a great job balancing the serious with the more light-hearted aspects. With this being said though, I did feel the tone of this one was a little different, heavier in a way, than the previous two.

It's still fantastic, don't get me wrong. I think part of it actually may stem from the relationship dynamic between our two mains. Jude and Indira have known each other a long time. They have an established relationship.

In the first two books, some of the fun and excitement came from two characters meeting, dating and falling in love. There's always some underlying excitement in that process because it's all new.

Here the exploration of the relationship was different because they came in with a history. That history did allow them to go deeper though, I felt, than the previous two couples. That's not a bad thing, it just tackles romance from a different angle.

The humor, wit, steamy scenes and hilarious situations did not change though. Eddings knows how to shock, surprise and impress. I was completely absorbed in this story. Jude and Indira will always have a special place in my heart.

Thank you so much to the publisher, St. Martin's Griffin, for providing me with a copy to read and review. I am in love with this series and cannot wait for the next book!

Book 3 in the A Brush With Love series ~ previous book characters are involved here, but probably fine as a standalone.

Content warnings from the author ~ PTSD from losing patients as a medical provider in emergency situations, emotional repercussions of growing up with divorced parents, moving on after a past partner cheats

Featuring ~ dual 3rd person POV, best friends sister, brothers best friend, childhood enemies to lovers, fake dating, steamage

Indira & Jude
Indira walks in on Chris, her live in boyfriend, in quite a gross and sticky compromising position. She packs her stuff and heads to her brother, Colin's, house. But it's not Colin who answers the door, it's his best friend and her enemy, Jude.

Each chapter is titled to give us a countdown to Colin and Jeremy's wedding. A wedding that Chris will be attending, so Jude offers to be Indira's fake date. As they spend more and more time together the fake dating line gets a bit blurred.

I felt that mental health was well written. I liked that Indira is a psychiatrist who sees one herself and that Jude got the help he needed as well.

I really enjoyed these two together, their self journey and their journey to each other, and how it all wrapped up. This was a great ending to the series.

I was fortune enough to have a kindle copy and an audio copy ~ both formats works perfectly.
Narration:
Jade Powers & Joe Arden ~ 11 hours 0 minutes ~ a lovely job by both

Thank you to St. Martin's, NetGalley, and the author for my early review copy. While Mazey is a dear friend, my love of this novel and my appreciation of her storytelling and craft was in no way influenced by our relationship; all opinions are fully my own!

This is exactly what I want when I pick up a contemporary romance. Real, smart, sexy, emotional and funny, starring characters whose journeys I became invested in and whose happiness I was rooting for. Each in their own ways, Jude and Indira carried pain with them from their pasts and fears that shaped how they perceived their future. Watching them learn to trust each other with their vulnerabilities and wounds, seeing how they gave each other kindness and tenderness when they needed it most, was a profoundly affirming portrayal of mental health struggles, trauma, PTSD, and the complex journey of navigating and healing.

On top of the incredibly touching, wise, lovely portrayal of mental health and finding love as we heal from trauma, was the joy of seeing the BRUSH WITH LOVE cast of secondary characters coming together. These characters feel like old friends and the group scenes were an absolute treat. I'm sorry to say goodbye to this world, but so glad I've been able to come along this incredible journey and finally see Indira and Jude get their happily ever after!

THE PLUS ONE is out April 4, 2023, and I can't wait for readers to have it in their hands!

Content notes: parental abandonment, strained family dynamics, medical care provider trauma, PTSD, panic attacks.

The Plus One is equal parts charming, sweet, sexy, and endearing. The characters are dealing with real life issues while trying to navigate life, relationships, and their jobs. This is the third book in the "A Brush with Love" series, and it can easily be read as a stand-alone. I also appreciate how the author address mental health issues in her books. In this book a character has PTSD, and it is handled with care and grace.

Indira has a great job and apartment but has her life turned upside down when she comes home and catches her boyfriend cheating on her. She moves in with her brother before his wedding while looking for a new place to live.

Jude is a doctor who has traveled the world to treat humanitarian crisis. He has PTSD and has traveled back home to attend his best friend's wedding.

Indira and Jude bickered as kids but now find themselves pretending to be in a romance to get through the wedding festivities, but you guessed it, things are beginning to feel real.

It is all about the journey with romance books and this is quite the journey. I love how the characters open up and communicate with each other.

This is a wonderful series, and this book was no exception. The characters are likeable, and their issues feel real and authentic. I had both the e-book and the audiobook and loved the narration of the audiobook. It is so well done and so enjoyable.

I highly recommend this series. All books in the series are fantastic, well written, endearing, and fast reads.

Summary: When long time frenemies Indira and Jude are thrown together for her brother’s huge wedding celebration, they devise a plan to be each other’s fake dates. Soon, however, things begin to feel a bit too real…

Thoughts: I really enjoy Mazey Eddings story telling and the wonderful, life-like characters she creates. This is the third installment in her Brush With Love series and while Lizzie still holds the number one spot, I loved this one and our MCs Indira and Jude, almost as much.

Right off the bat, The Plus One features a lot of tropes I adore. I’m a big fan of enemies to lovers and brother’s best friend, and have really taken a liking to fake dating. I think each and every one of these tropes was well executed and felt very authentic to the story. Nothing felt forced or out of place.

I always love the representation Eddings includes in her books, and this was no exception. The PTSD and anxiety Jude copes with, along with the therapy Indira undergoes, were all presented in a very realistic and honest way. In fact, the therapy sessions in which Indira opens up about her history with Jude, were some of my favorite scenes hands down.

My only criticism is that there were times were the story seemed to drag just a bit, and therefore might have been just a tad too long. Otherwise, I think this is a really great romcom with a lot of emotional depth and I highly recommend both the book and the series.

Read if you like:
•enemies to lovers
•brothers best friend
•fake dating
•forced proximity
•mental health rep
•open door

“I’m not looking to fix you… I’m here to love you.”

After reading the first two books in this series, The Plus One was a lot heavier than I anticipated. Jude and Indira have this enemies to lovers thing going on, as well as fake dating and brother’s best friend. I guess with these troupes I was expecting a bit of a rom com and even though I had a few chuckles, this is definitely not a light book.

I almost feel like there was too much going on. A book this heavy with emotion didn’t need all the extra troupes. I think the mental health rep was really well done, but the pacing felt a little off to me at times. Overall I enjoyed this more than the first book in the series, but the second is still my favorite.

First of all, as noted by the author at the beginning of the book, this story addresses heavy topics such as trauma and PTSD. While this is indeed a romance story, readers should be aware that those heavy topics are a constant theme all throughout the story.
Below are the notes that I made while reading:
- Slapping "childhood" before the "enemies-to-lovers" does not mean that it's an out for NOT giving readers the "enemies" feels. These two were prickly with each other at best.
- 20% in and Indira had more on page interactions with her therapist than with Jude.
- Indira runs hot and cold. She's snarky (and not the kind that I like) and in the same breath can be soft and gentle. I am getting whiplash.
- Heavily focused on mental health, PTSD and therapy.
- For a grown woman, Indira is unbelievably childish at times: the way she exploded at her brother about their father during a pre-wedding gathering, then felt embarrassed when her brother chided her. And oh my God, the obsession with the peanut butter thing was cringey af. Let it go!
- 50% in and no actual fake dating happened. It also went from occasional glances across the room, to a make-out session finishing in "we deserve happiness together" halfway through the story, which for me felt like it jumped from 0 to 100 in a beat. No fake-dating happened. They, in fact, went real real quick.
- Some of the roasts (and dry wit) landed better than others.
- Also, for fun, here is the amount of giggling that happened in this book: giggle (38), giggles (12), giggling (10), giggled (13).

I had many issues with the author's first book (that I dnf'ed). I still wanted to give this one a try, but unfortunately it wasn't for me. At least I powered through this one to the end, although a lot of skimming through did happen.

Thank you to St Martin's Press for the ARC via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

✧˚ ʚɞ˚ ༘✿ ♡ ⋆。˚ Definitely one of my favorite books this year. ✧˚ ʚɞ˚ ༘✿ ♡ ⋆。˚

The Plus One has THEE best trope: childhood nemesis. Not only that, but they also have to pretend to date! Which makes it ten times better. Indira and Jude are really the best people ever and they deserve the world and their love story is super adorable and swoony and I need more. I'm sad to see the A Brush with Love series end, because Mazey did wonderfully. These characters all resonate with you and stay with you days, months, years after reading their books. They become a part of you and I'm so glad that I got to experience them.

Mazey made me cry and then laugh every chapter. This book is emotional, especially because of what the main characters are going through. I was going in this journey with them, you know? I felt everything they were feeling! Mazey's writing is that good that you get emotional when the characters get emotional.

Jude has PTSD after years overseas as a surgeon in places where natural disasters hit, wars happen, and so much more. Mental health is the protagonist in every single one of Mazey's books alongside the characters themselves. And I'm so happy the world gets to see these stories where mental health is prioritize, where characters go to theraphy, where you want to find love but you need to be mentally healthy first. ♡ ˎˊ˗

Indira and Jude are MEANT TO BE. PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER. MY FAVORITES!

dating your brother's best friend has never been a very appealing book trope for me because usually the brother sucks and with that logic why would his best friend be any better??

except mazy eddings said "only fathers are garbage"and "brothers and their best friends are actually the most wonderful, kindest people. court adjourned."

shout-out to jude's dad - you are exempt from this decree.

this was the sweetest romcom for my cold, cynical heart to feast on to stay warm in this depressing american winter.

i am an absolute glutton for broken people falling in love and realizing they're just a little less broken and a lot more hopeful. in this economy we get therapized with the characters in the book.

indira is a psychiatrist and her older brother's best friend jude is a trauma doctor treating emergencies and humanitarian crises across the world. i loved indira and jude so much. the fact that mazy eddings has me loving a character named jude...that's how you know she's powerful.

the childhood-to-adulthood dislike-to-love pipeline was so believable because there was build-up, and tension. (in other words it was absolute perfection!)

they're forced to stay together during indy's brother's wedding planning and let me tell you the amount of chemistry these two have is off the charts. no need for clinical resuscitation - jude and indy got your back (or your heart whatever - i lost the metaphor).

AND the banter? pure artistry. i'm doing a thousand chef's kiss motions as i write. they have so much physical and verbal chemistry that i would like to send a request for mazy eddings to lead a banter and dialogue-writing retreat for romcom authors.

there's a scene where indy straight up says "that was so ass" and i felt so seen. (i am who i am, OK?)

also no book beloved to me comes without trauma and don't you forget it. jude is suffering from complex ptsd due to his time in such intense crisis situations and indira hasn't healed from all the trauma in her life.

they don't initially want to be around each other and yet somehow they both needed each other the most out of everyone else.

this is a story about how they both learn to trust each other, find comfort in each other and realize that love doesn't solve everything BUT it does make our tiny world a better place for us.

the way indy always had a sense for when jude wasn't okay and knowing how to support him quietly. the way jude sees indy's fears and leads her away from the darkness and hopelessness in her mind.

say it with me folks - THAT'S LOVE RIGHT THERE.

mazy eddings said falling in love doesn't mean their problems are magically solved. they still have to communicate and learn from one another.

AND THAT ladies and sesame street characters is what elevated the incredible, steamy (and i mean it when i say steamy - i was NOT expecting that wooh) chemistry between the two characters.

this is an incredible third installment to the already hilariously-fun 'A Brush With Love' series and I am so glad i can add this to my list of 'books that make me suffer a bit less'.

thank you so much to st. martin's press and netgalley for this the opportunity to read this arc and review it.

five stars! ⋆ ˚。⋆୨୧˚ oooh, this was literally everything. i think the fact that i related to both indira and jude a little too much means i definitely need to be finding a therapist soon, though…

this book just has so many goodies wrapped up in between it’s pages. childhood rivals, older brother’s best friend, fake dating, one bed (tent), no third act breakup? and while the trope list may seem like a lot packed into one thing, they were all executed so phenomenally and really worked together to create indira and jude’s story. this book was equal parts cute and wholesome and emotional and serious. i swear i was laughing one second and then on the verge of tears the next for many, many moments within this book.

indira is definitely my favorite character from this little companion series, partially because she’s the one i relate to the most, but also because she’s just such an amazing character in general. she’s witty and fun, not afraid to speak her mind while still managing to be respectful, and overall just has so much love to give for the people in her life. i truly adored her. and jude, ohhh jude. it was very hard to read his chapters sometimes because of how truly broken and sad this boy was, but once indira crashed her way through, seeing him become happy and hopeful was just so ridiculously sweet. i was rooting for him since he was first introduced. i loved that mental health was an important aspect of their relationship and that they were both working on becoming better for themselves.

the romance in this book was simply *chef’s kiss* from the playful bickering to the stolen glances and touches to the “oh shit i think i actually like you” moments. not to mention the spicy scenes, which were some of the best from this series (and yes, there is emotional 69ing and it is absolutely amazing. i was not disappointed) the chemistry between the characters felt real and genuine, and it wasn’t simply lust based or instant, which had been my biggest qualms about the first two books.

i’m sincerely so glad i requested this book from netgalley, i think it might be one of my favorites that i’ve read. this really is gonna hold a place in my heart with how much i resonated with it <33 definitely recommend!!

huge thank you to netgalley and st. martin’s press for sending me an arc in exchange for an honest review!!

The Plus One by Mazey Eddings
A Brush With Love series #3. Contemporary romance. Can be read as a stand-alone. 5e epilogue does wrap up all three relationships of the series.
Indira was the pesky little sister of Jude’s best friend and neither liked the other. When Indira walks in on her boyfriend being unfaithful, she moves in with her brother at the same time Jude is staying there as well. Wedding prep is keeping the circle of friends busy so Indira and Jude end up faking a relationship. Fake, real, who can say what goes on behind closed doors?

🎧 I listened to an audiobook version alternating with an Ebook. The narration was done by Imani Jade Powers and Joe Arden. I like that the series was all different narrators so listening doesn’t get the stories and characters mixed up. The narrators compliment each other very well while each takes their gender POV. Both gave amazing performances on the stress of PTSD, the overwhelming sounds of everyday and, of course, the passion they eventually felt for each other. For me, the audio gave the characters life and a specific “look” that I don’t generally find with an ebook.
I listened to the audio at 1.5.

There are trigger warnings mentioned in the beginning of the book which was helpful to understand the depth of Jude’s detachment. I admired Indira for her support and stance to Jude. Yes, she had training but her words are heartfelt.

I received a copy of this book from NetGalley and Macmillan Audio.

Indira and Jude are the cutest, I love their story so much! 🥹🥹🥹 This book it like one big therapy session (in the absolute best way) and I can’t recommend it enough. Both as individuals and in their relationship, Jude and Indira are so sweet, emotional, mature and considerate. Mazey Eddings writes with such a deep understanding of mental health and career burnout (especially in healthcare) and family struggles. ❤️

The Ripped Bodice always hosts the best panels at LA Times Festival of Books. Do yourself a favor and attend next year. Here for the laughs. Here for the crying.

I had the pleasure of hearing Mazey speak on Sunday morning at the Love at Any Age: Writing Romance from Middle Grade to Adult panel. Her newest book is young adult, so I searched for something not. I hadn't realized this was sitting on my Kindle.

I was promised a sad boy. I love a sad boy. I need help. I did not get help. What did I get? A sad boy. Plus a sad girl. Sadness all around.

Why the three stars? Three stars aren't inherently bad. I mostly enjoyed this. There are things I didn't enjoy. The mental health rep is a pro. We often sit in on Indira's psychiatrist sessions in the book. As someone that grew up in a marginalized community that did not discuss mental health, this is really important for me to read about as an adult.

So I didn't love the romance. The main trope here is brother's best friend. And there's only one bed? More like one tent? Which I'm generally good with, but I don't feel like there was a ton of chemistry. But maybe that's because they've known each other since they were children. And I get that, friendship to lovers is like that. But since Indira and Jude butted heads so much, it was more like wannabe enemies to lovers, even though they weren't quite enemies.

Another pro was that this was set in Philadelphia. I feel like most books are set in LA or NYC. Or that the cities authors choose to feature aren't ones they've been to. See every book set in Paris.

That was a ramble. I've had two very large cups of black coffee and absolutely nothing else. Send help.

I didn't realize The Plus One was the 3rd book in a series, so thankfully it was easily read as a standalone.

After walking in on her boyfriend and another chick in a compromising and very messy position, Indira heads to her brother's house unannounced with her cat. When she gets there, she finds that her brother's best friend, Jude, is in town and also staying with him and his fiancé. I wouldn't exactly call Jude and Indira enemies, they have just alway annoyed each other since they were kids. Unfortunately, Indira's ex is also the cousin of her brother's fiancé and is also in the wedding party, so to avoid him, she and Jude pretend to be dating.

While there are a lot of laugh out loud moments in this book, it also has substance. It addresses mental health in the form of some heavier topics such as PTSD and parental abandonment. I thought the author did a fantastic job handling these topics in a relatable way. I liked that even though Indira was a Psychiatrist, she didn't have it all together and also struggled with her own issues. The banter between Jude and Indira never felt forced or unrealistic, and the way everything progressed just felt natural. I really enjoyed this one and am looking forward to reading the first 2 books in the series which I have already requested from the library. 4 stars.

This one is out today - Happy Pub Date!

Indira and Jude are absolutely ADORABLE 🫶🏼 I want to give them both the biggest hug!!!

♡ Fake dating
♡ Older brother’s best friend
♡ Childhood enemies to lovers (the enemies bit doesn’t last long though)
♡ Only one tent 👀
♡ PTSD rep

I don’t know what it was about this book but I ate it UP in 2 hours. Jude is a broken broken man & also so endearing. Every time he said anything, I turned into this emoji: 🥹

We love the lack of a third act breakup we really do 🥵

Mazey Eddings does it again with the great mental health rep!!!! If there’s one thing I know is that if you’re struggling with your mental health, you can trust that you’ll feel seen when reading one of her books ❤️

This is an emotional enemies to lovers, fake dating, story full of banter, fun, and steam.
Jude and Indira had such a connection, they were beautifully messy. I absolutely loved how they grew for themselves and each other, the way they could laugh and cry in such intimate moments just took me over the edge. The book itself was very well written and I am so excited to explore Mazey Eddings's other books.

I loved this book! It does an amazing job covering the difficult subject of trauma. Specifically PTSD. It is taken seriously and handled with care all while telling a great story.

I especially love the dynamic between Jude and Indira. The way she watches over him is one of the sweetest things I have ever read. Swoon!

The only thing that let this book down for me (a little bit) was the ending. Don’t get me wrong, I love the way it ends, just not necessarily how it’s told. Not a dealbreaker, and definitely doesn’t take away from whether or not I would recommend this book.

Cute read!!

Enemies to lovers??? Grumpy x sunshine??? They’ve known each other since childhood??? He’s her brothers best friend??? Fake dating??? This book had ALL of the best tropes and I adored it.

This book was sweet, emotional, steamy, and portrayed mental health and trauma in such a realistic way. Indira and Jude are childhood enemies who grew up alongside each other due to Jude’s friendship with Dira’s brother Collin. Fast forward to present day and Dira, now a therapist, and Jude, a surgeon, find themselves both living at Collin’s house leading up to his wedding.

Dira and Jude were everything and so much more. Seeing them go from bickering to opening up to one another about their struggles and trauma was beautiful. They re-found each other at the exact right time and fit like two pieces of a puzzle. I loved Dira’s determination to never give up on the ones she loved and how she helped Jude realize that his trauma doesn’t mean that he is unloveable. I really appreciated how the author didn’t make the characters go through a third act breakup and instead prioritized Dira supporting Jude through a low point. ALL of the stars for positive communication between these two.

This book was so inspirational and beautiful. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for an emotional read with SO much heart and healing.

This is exactly what I was expecting and at the same time so much more. I attached myself so hard to these characters, it was difficult not to feel their emotions like they were my own. This beautiful book takes you on a beautiful journey of love, healing, and learning to love yourself. I’m so in awe of this book and its characters.

Indira and Jude start out as frenemies. They’ve known each other for their whole lives as Jude is Indira’s older brother, Collin, best friend. They’ve always been annoying to one another, and after years they pick up right from where they left. We see them rediscovering each other and realizing that while they still annoy the shit out of each other, they’ve also changed.

I loved seeing the shift in their relationship and how their thoughts of one another slowly changed. From frenemies to tentative friends to an inseparable bond to lovers. How they started to lean on each other for support and seeing them fall in love was the absolute best!

I loved Indira a whole bunch. Watching her heal from her struggles and understanding what troubles her was gratifying. While it was difficult for her to do so, she was so brave. She was also hilarious and her banter with Collins was so funny!
I loved seeing the girls’ group back in action, their friendship is always a highlight, that and seeing how the previous couples from the previous books were doing, it’s always a favorite of mine in any friend group series! We also got a tiny little glimpse into Thu’s book which again, amazing.

Jude. I loved him to pieces. My sweet, selfless, broken hero who wanted nothing more than to go back to his old self but was stuck in the dark. His journey was a notch more difficult. Seeing him struggles after so much trauma was hard, if I’m going to be honest. His friendship with Indira was really important to his healing and I loved seeing it.

Mazey Eddings as always represented the tough parts accurately and well written. She portrays the difficulties and consequences realistically and truthfully. I’m so grateful to authors who show all of it!
