But the ruthless Lord Malvat will stop at nothing to possess Elyria, and mind control curses were only the beginning. When his pursuit follows them to the palace gates, Elyria must choose between avenging all she’s lost, or embracing her incendiary connection to Cal.
Is their magical bond strong enough to vanquish the looming threat before it engulfs them all?
“Star Spear” propels readers on an unforgettable adventure, filled with immersive worlds, intense romance, and breathtaking magic. This thrilling second installment of the Sun Serpent Saga will captivate fans of epic fantasy series like “From Blood and Ash,” “Fourth Wing,” and “Throne of Glass.”
Most days, you can find Geneva wandering the streets of her small colonial town or snuggling up beside a fire with her husband, son, and two cats. No matter the location, she probably has a book in one hand and a macchiato in the other.
The rollercoaster this book took me through. Let me tell you. First of all, I was mad at the author for like a whole day because why not. You have to be mad at someone when they make you CRY. 😆😆
But the butterflies Cal gives you are just **chef's kiss** If you love Casteel DaNeer and Desmond Flynn, you will LOVE Cal and his swoonworthy begging for forgiveness, it's to die for.
But can we talk about their... well, I won't spoil it, but their magical growth is so badass. It'll blow you out of this world.
The storyline, I promise, will tug on your heartstrings. The amount of information you learn is exciting yet melancholy. You will very likely cry, I wasn't joking.
But hold on to your pants because this book starts off with a literal bang with the most epic battle I've ever read. Y'all, Geneva did her research and did not come to play (or did she 🤔).
If you liked Sun Serpent, you will LOVE Star Spear!
4.5 ⭐️ 2 🌶️ I am still utterly obsessed with this series. I just never want it to end.
This book - star spear - was a different pace to the first one. It didn’t advance the plot much at all (until that explosive end) & focused much more on the romantic relationship between the two MC’s. Which I liked! We got to see them work through what happened at the end of b1 & build their trust & relationship. I felt like the FMC could have given him a bit more hell after the events of B1 - I would have liked to see a bit more push & pull between them. But ultimately I love them together… & we even got a bit of spice ❤️🔥 We finally got to see some dragons! Ahhh so good! Along with finding out a bit more about the history of the ‘big bad’
I still have my one main issue, like with b1, & that is the magic system. I see it working in scene but I couldn’t tell you how it all works. And one big scene in particular towards the end had me scratching my head. There was a LOT happening in the scene & I was lost - was that a metaphor? Where are they physically? How is this magic happening?
The climatic ending was fantastic! It was very well paced, enthralling & had me on the edge of my seat. I found the description easy to follow & it wasn’t over quickly. Just when you thought it was it would pivot & continue, making the ending feel epic in scale! It ended on a major cliffhanger (which I LOVE) but also not the one I was expecting (also LOVE)
Overall there is something about this author & story that has me totally enthralled & wanting more. Is there criticisms, yes… did I have an absolute fantastic time reading it… YES!
This book picked up right where we left off. Elyria, Cal and Xoc are headed to Innesvale. Can she trust him? How will she adjust to life at court? We are introduced to new characters and it’s so hard to pick who may favorite is now. Elyria is getting to see a new side of Cal, how he is in his role as the prince. The writing flowed so well and I didn’t realize I had read it in two days until I was finished. My favorite part might have been a certain sparring scene…whew!! The last 100 pages had me on the edge of my seat. I didn’t know where it was going to go and now I cannot wait until the next book comes out!
In "Star Spear" by Geneva Monroe, the second installment of the Sun Serpent Saga, the journey of Prince Callen and Elyria continues at full speed ahead. As they navigate a dangerous path filled with love, vengeance, and courtly intrigues, Monroe weaves a tale of intense romance and captivating lore that will resonate with fans of epic romance fantasy series.
The narrative picks up seamlessly from the first book, as the duo's connection deepens during their voyage. While the story occasionally lingers in the realm of romantic tension, the undeniable chemistry between the protagonists infuses the pages with palpable energy. The banter and sensuality between them provide moments of both sweetness and edginess, underscoring their complex bond.
Amid the swirling emotions and intensifying relationship, the novel introduces us to Cal's family and his role as a prince, adding layers to his character. The inclusion of Elyria's strong female friendships brings depth to her journey, and her resilience and independence shine through. The antagonist is well-crafted, injecting danger and intrigue into the narrative, leading to a surprising conclusion.
While the story maintains its focus on the central couple, there's a longing for the broader ensemble cast to step into the limelight. The world-building remains immersive and "Star Spear" is a rollercoaster ride with some mild pacing difficulties. However, it has an ending that leaves readers both surprised and eager for the next installment.
Thank you to the author for the eARC. This is an honest review.
To say this book was a rollercoaster is taking it lightly; what is it with fantasy books and the last 100 pages?!?
We enter our story on the heels of Cal’s admission of deceit and him doing everything to earn back Elyria’s trust. The romance here is my absolute favorite. Yes we see Cal’s wrong but we also sympathize with him, you try being a prince when everyone expects you to be perfect at all times!
The relationship heats up at exactly the exactly right pace, you are there with Elyria and Cal as they work out what is between them. The dual POV is my favorite for this.
Entering the third act you think you have an idea of where the story is going but at the last minute, nope! Why would this be anything but simple?? We get a great battle scene, an unexpected character 🐱 (who we instantly fall in love with), an emotionally charged sequence that nearly brought me to tears, and the twist ending.
Geneva Monroe has me completely enthralled with her world and begging for more. If only she could write novels as fast as I can read them! But then again, where is the fun in that?
I HATE reading unfinished series because I am so tired of having to wait for the next book! I can't wait until the next book of this series comes out. I felt this was just as well written as the first book. It really had me on an emotional rollercoaster. The slow burn of book 1 is long gone and I am loving it. Book 2 was much spicier, more action packed, and just a wild ride.
Reread - don't worry the third book is out now so am significantly less devastated. I definitely like this book less than the first I think because the characters feel more stagnant to me compared to the progression in the first book but definitely still enjoyed it
This book is definetly one you want to read if you enjoyed Sun Serpent OR if you like Casteel DaNeer from FBAA and amazing magical powers like in Red Queen (just read Sun Serpent first)
Pirates? Dragons? Magical powers AND ENDS IN AN EPIC BATTLE? What more do you need? I am in awe. This book starts greatly, picking up directly where we left of in Sun Serpent. The playful and flirty banter between our favorites is amazing (and the reactions of another favorite of ours is even better, sorry Xoc).
With amazing, new (and old) characters, you will fly through this book. The slowburn finally starts burning and the anticipated meeting with the villain will leave you breathless. And for us spiceee lovers .... just wait till that one scene!
The ending.... oh gods, how do I start? I used a full 48 hours before being able to film a review for booktok and write this review here. So much is happening that it completely shattered me and made me unable to process it all! I will definetly be rereading this book several times.
PREORDER THIS BOOK NOW, SO THAT YOU´LL HAVE IT ON AUGUST 11TH!
P.s. Geneva, if you´re reading this (which i know you are). THE PEOPLE WANTS SILVER SHARD.
I was physically unable to put Star Spear down, and I am still left without words on how to describe the roller coaster of emotions this book put me through. The chemistry that Cal and Elyria have together is so hot that I thought my Kindle was going to melt they are a power house couple who would burn down the world for each other. I really appreciate that Geneva gives Cal a more mature/experinced attitude throughout Sun Serpent and Star Spear he still knows how to have fun, but he is much older than Elyria and there is nothing I hate more than giving a 100+ year old being a immature outlook who still goes around acting like a teen. Elyria is fast to react, but Cal sees the bigger picture and pulls her in and basically speaks some sense into her. Star Serpent is focused on building Cal and Elyria's relationship, and I truly loved seeing their characters grow throughout this book. The ending was a major cliffhanger that had me on the edge of my seat, and I still can't believe Geneva left me like that!! This book not only left me in total shock, but it made me laugh, cry, and cheer my favorite couple on. So, YES, you need to start this series. I promise you won't be sorry. Thank you, Geneva, for creating my new favorite characters and for creating such a wonderful journey. I loved every second of it ❤️ 💕 ♥️
The first 65% of this book, there was no plot. Don’t get me wrong, a good romance and angst build up are my favorite things in the world, but waiting that long for Malvat to show up was a struggle and made this book just a little slow for me.
Other than that, this was a great read and a great follow up to Sun Serpent, which I stand by being one of the best fantasies I’ve read this year.
This book was unpredictable, I kept trying to guess what was going on and got it wrong at every turn which is so rare for me and makes me excited for the sequel.
Also I LOVE Xoc, fingers crossed for a Xoc pov and a Xoc and Kaeliana love story, I mean we all have one guess why Xoc was late to Star Spear right??
Part Two of the Sun Serpent Saga just hits different. It’s an absolute work of love, and I can tell that Geneva Monroe’s soul is written into these pages. At the end of Sun Serpent, I was looking forward to Elyria and Cal’s next adventure and was not disappointed! A journey of retribution for what was lost transforms into a bond of love so strong it “will burn through shadow and devour darkness.”
The introduction of new characters, some lovable and others not so much, has me begging for more! I will say I miss Xoc in this book, but I know the story is just getting started, and I can’t wait to see where the adventure takes us next! Hopefully really soon because that final chapter has my eye twitching.
How did I feel about Star Spear, you ask? A better question would be what didn’t I feel. The emotional instability I felt while reading, and even now after finishing, is otherworldly. Part of the appeal fantasy offers is getting lost in the world the author creates, and this book truly knocks that immersion out of the park. I felt like I was just as connected through the dragon bond as Elyria, Cal, and Aurus.
If any or all of these apply, this book is for you. After Sun Serpent, of course. - If you’re a fantasy lover - If you like a little romance (not super spicy, but there are a few panty-dropping lines sprinkled throughout) - If you’re looking for adventure - If you’re looking for a little (or a lot) of magic - If you like witty and strong characters - If you appreciate a diverse cast of characters - DRAGONS
Final Thoughts - Nothing worthwhile is without danger. And this story is absolutely worth the emotional roller coaster. Hands down, this has been my best read of the year.
Official release is August 11th. It’s worth the wait and the hype. Read. Rinse. Repeat.
OKAY. I honestly don't know where to start with this book.
IT IS FANTASTIC!
Geneva's writing is a work of art! She is the real deal!!
First and foremost, the cover is BEAUTIFUL and goes so well with the story!
Star Spear had me feeling all the emotions! I was laughing, and then I was crying, and then I was pissed! Haha 😄 but seriously, this book is amazing!
If you love a strong, do it myself, FMC, a super sweet MMC, and even wonderful side characters, then you will love this book!
It has tons of detail to where you can picture clearly where they are, and there is never a dull moment! There's action, there's romance, there's suspense, and so much happiness, and I loved every minute! It is the perfect fantasy romance!
It does have some spice, but not a lot, just enough to keep you wanting more!
You know the books that transport you to another world and make you fall in love with them. This book is it for me. I could NOT get enough!
I highly recommend this book to anyone because it's that good! And I will be anxiously awaiting the next book!
AND ALSO, it has dragons ♡
*Star Spear is coming out on August 11th, so do yourself a favor and preorder it! *
Star spear is the much awaited sequel to Geneva Monroe's fabulous book Sun Serpent. If you haven't read it yet I highly recommend doing so because Star Spear picks up exactly where Sun Serpent left off.
Before I get started I would like to mention that the cover to this book is simply gorgeous and represents the story very well! I would also like to thank Geneva Monroe, for providing a pronunciation guide. Oh how I wish more authors would do this
I fell in love with Sun Serpent and thought there was no way Geneva could top it. On how wrong I was! Star Spear completely blew me away! The roller coaster ride that my emotions went through was vicious. Much like Elyria is in this book. She's downright bloodthirsty! I went from laughing to crying to cursing Geneva at one point. I'm sure her ears were ringing. Lol
This is one hell of an epic romantasy series. If you love a strong FMC, a swoon worthy MC (who doesn't mind groveling), dragons, epic battles, humor and spice that will seriously melt your panties off (18+ pleasel) then this is for you.
I can’t recommend this enough and I will certainly be awaiting the next book in this series!
This book was so amazing! It made laugh, cry, and angry. The characters made me feel every emotion that they had. I can’t wait to read the next chapter!!
Almost gave it four stars until I was getting towards the end, where I felt the story really stepped it up to a level I was hoping for and made me excited for the next book.
The side characters in this book and the last are really enjoyable, and it's one of the few times I would be interested in having them appear more and see their POV.
However, this almost lost one star because Cal & Elyria are so down bad for each other. I get it, their romance is a huge part of the story, but many times their commentary and thoughts felt unnecessary or out of place in the moment. Once again there were times I felt the immaturity of Cal (who is hundreds of years old) was on par of a 21 year old young man whose brain has not fully developed. He cannot always prioritize what's important and many times acts solely on his instincts and desires that are right in front of him. I suppose time does not allow all men to grow and mature in the way we would hope.
On the other hand, Elyria, who has only lived on the earth for 21 or so years, is a bit more understandable if she is lacking maturity. Overall I did see both characters emotionally develop more since the first book, which I really appreciated.
The second rip-roaring, bodice-slashing high fantasy adventure yarn in the Sun Serpent Saga. More of the same as the first, progressing the story along nicely - even to an 18 rating! Great stuff for a romantasy - a perfect blend of action, with a nice bit of spice, and people related to dragons! How awesome is that? I love the draken... Oh, and of course, the ultimate villain. Perfect.
Blurb: Betrayed to save a kingdom. Consumed by wrath. Which will burn hotter, love or vengeance? Prince Callen Shadow left Innesvale with one goal: Bring the Fire Singer home, no matter the cost. Seduction and lies were easy for him - until her. Now Cal is realising the cost of saving his kingdom may be losing the only woman he's ever loved. Well, what do you think? Of course the connection between Elyria and Cal will conquer all - but not for a few books yet, I'm sure! Good world building, good characters, and a decent plot all make for a perfect bit of fantasy escapism. Don't expect anything deep and meaningful, but strap in, and have a fabulous ride!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book was just an emotional rollercoaster and I loved every second of it. From the start I could put the book down, it really kept my attention which not many books do. Seeing Cal and Elyria again was so amazing and reading about their chemistry made the story a thousand times better. I did like Cal more in this book than in sun serpent because I liked that Geneva made him more mature but he still kept his fun side and I appreciated that. The story was mainly focused on building that relationship between Cal and Elyria which I loved and it helped me care more for them. I did miss my boy Xoc in this book but I hope that we will see more of him in the next book since this is just starting. The story also continues to build up until we reach almost the end of the book and all hell breaks loose and the emotional roller coaster just keeps going and going not letting you or them catch a break. I am super exited to see where the story is going next and see what happens after that cliffhanger! I absolutely recommend this book to everyone that is in search of an amazing fantasy series.

OH MY GODS, YOU GUYS! If you thought I was in love with Book 1: Book 2, BLEW IT OUT OF THE PARK! 🩵🖤📚
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ //🌶🌶🌶🥵
There is so much to say about this book. I LOVED the beginning where we deep dove into the love and romance between Elyria and Cal! (That balcony scene....let's just say my husband thanked me later 😉) I love everything about cal and Elyria, they are ride or die for life (and the next!)
BUT thr action and the suspense in the second half of the book and me on edge! Geneva is SO GOOD at making you feel like you are standing right there next to her characters! There were so many times I got scared, and then they were okay, and then scared again. My heart was pumping!
THE CLIFFHANGER....😱😱😱 why did it end there?!! Ugh, I can not wait for BOOK 3!!
One last thing....Lava Cats are adorable, and when Xoc said " Here, Kittty, kitty." ...I was ☠️. I LOVE XOC! Are we getting a Xoc book?!
THANK YOU for letting me be an ARC Reader for you, Geneva! (I'm so sorry I'm late on this review!)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Don't sleep on this series- Star Spear is non-stop... and ***spoiler alert*** this series isn't a dualogy (darn it!) but now I'm completely invested in the nightmare that has been unleashed and how our Draken heroes and their new friends are going to save the world. Cal and Elyria and Xoc are even better this time around, though I missed some of the witty banter, I am glad that Cal and Elyria are aware of their relationship and all the power it brings....on all levels! So...now to see if this author has left some clues as to when the next book is coming out.... add another one to my list that I am waiting for this year!
What have you done to me Geneva! This second book was a rollercoaster of a ride, lulled into a sense of security in the first half, everything going well for our main characters, then BAM, dropped out of a plane without a parachute (or wings, lol). I've had to stare into space for the past few days after finishing to just process. This book, along with the first one, Sun Serpent, are on my list of best books read so far this year, 2023. If you like fantasy, dragons, fire magic, groveling princes, "don't hold me back" females, banter, swoon worthy romance that will have you clutching your pearls, side characters to love, and adventure.... READ THIS BOOK! And now we have to wait until 2024 for the next book? What will I do with myself?
So the real action didn't happen until about the second half of the book. But I love how the relationship between Cal and Elyria developed. It wasn't super quick, and we got to see daily life with them. I really enjoyed that it didn't seem to just happen overnight. And seeing her friendships develop was nice to. And then there's the lava cat!
The second book is focusing on the evolving romance between the main characters. I really liked the explosive/thrilling end as well as the introduction of dragons. I still have some issues with the magic system, but I hope that that will be explained in the 3rd book. Overall, the author's storytelling captivates, leaving readers eagerly anticipating more!!
Oh man! This was an experience! The laughter, the shock, the crying, the romance! The battle scenes! The characters are all *chefs kiss* without giving too much away:..
Cal does everything he can to prove his worthiness to Elyria, and she struggles to accept it while also struggling with her own feelings as their emotions and temperatures rise (quite litterally). the steamy romance is sensual in a way that is not too explicit. It's just a sprinkle amount of spice. Their story is written eloquently
The side characters are a league of their own. Funny, sarcastic, witty, strong, reliable, and relatable in all aspects, I loved them!
The battle, oopfft... can I just say it kept me on my toes the entire time! Had me biting my nails, screaming at my Kindle, crying, and having to stop to breathe for a bit before diving right back in. I mean epic! Here I'm thinking I know what's going to happen but not at all!
Geneva Monroe really outdid herself, and I can't wait to continue to dive deeper into this world! Amazing!
If you like adventures, romance, fantasy, and having your emotions all over the place, this book is definitely for you! But first read Part 1 Sun Serpent
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review, so let’s dive in 💕
THIS FUCKING BOOK!!!!!
So many things I can rave about, but to keep it spoiler free, here are my highlights of what Geneva Monroe delivers in Star Spear: - Twists and turns that will make you laugh, cry, scream, and (if you have a physical copy) throw the book across the room - BADASS FCs (they make me scared and horny at the same time. I wouldn’t have them any other way) - MCs that deserve every ounce of our attention - Women supporting women - The magic you know and love from Sun Serpent expanded on in fascinating ways - Smut so hot you’ll need to take a cold shower or find alternative relief - DRAGONS - Fashion you wish you could materialize in real life
OK What just happened? We were in a slow burn romance then BAM..the ending. (No spoilers) I can’t even get my thoughts straight. READ. THIS. BOOK. Then end.
Honestly, I would have given 5 stars for the balcony scene alone.
Shoutout for the pacing too! There was never a lull. I feel like I read an entire series in one book.
Thank you so much for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
3 - I didn’t enjoy this journey as much as the first book. Some parts felt too long while other areas didn’t fully develop. I was expecting to see more of Elle in court life and we really only got sappy scenes. I missed the spark and banter of our characters. I won’t be reading the rest of the series.
