Chicago Grizzlies #3

Something like Love

Rate this book
I want to.
I can’t.

I’ve been friends with Cooper Rice from the moment we met. He was just as famous a decade ago on our college campus as he is now being the star quarterback for the Chicago Grizzlies.

But he’s not only talented on the field, he’s also the gorgeous football star women fawn over, posing in underwear and razor ads.

Here’s a secret those women don’t know—Cooper Rice isn’t a playboy. He’s the kind of man who wants to settle down with a family. He’s content ordering pizza and massaging my feet after my long shift as an emergency room doctor. He listens to me as if he’s as invested as I am in my patients. He has never let me down.

This is exactly why I refuse to live without Cooper in my life. Eight years ago, I made him promise me that we’d never cross that line. And just like I knew Cooper would, he’s held to that promise.

Despite our best efforts, our relationship is evolving, shifting into new territory and I find myself unsure if I want Cooper to keep that promise. Ignoring the obvious could tear us apart, but so could giving in, meaning there’s a chance I’ll lose Cooper forever no matter what decision I make.

Genre ~ sports romance
Series ~ Chicago Grizzlies #3
Others in the series ~ link to the whole series
Setting ~ Chicago
Publication date ~ February 6, 2024
Est Page Count ~ 274 (33 chapters)
Audio length ~ 6 hours 23 minutes
Narrators ~ Aaron Shedlock, Emma Wilder
POV ~ dual 1st
Featuring ~ dual timeline back to college where it all started, best friends to lovers, slow burn, some steamage

Cooper & Ellery have been best friends since college. They've had secret feelings for each other all of these years but neither wanted to rock the boat and risk their friendship. Plus there might have been a pesky parent fogging the porthole, which bugged me. Luckily for them they have a great group on friends that forced them to take a chance.

I do prefer friends to lovers over enemies ~ it always bugs me that so much time was wasted because neither of them want to get their head out of their ass and communicate. I'm going to call this super slow burn because we've been waiting the whole series for them to figure it out. They were super cute and I loved them together. The support they had for each other was special. It was refreshing that Coop wasn't a typical playboy, but ready to be settled. Did not care for the OM drama though.

Overall, a perfect end to the series. I love how there are tid bits from the other couples to show how their lives are progressing.

Series notes:
I'd say best to read in order so you have the full picture of all couples since they're a great group of friends that hang out quite a bit.

Narration notes:
Gosh, I just love duet narration so much! It should be mandatory 🤣🤣

This one's a tough one. I had fun reading it and the authors' writing style has always been something that I enjoy. Their books are light and quick but the way they develop the characters are usually done very nicely. However, in this book, I could not stand Ellery at the end. She started to become so selfish and I just feel like Cooper deserved more. Considering how Ellery and Cooper have been best friends for years, you would think they would know how to approach each other best and communicate clearly. Instead of communicating, I felt like Ellery barely confided in him and I was getting so frustrated with how she decided to do things regarding their relationship. Ellery definitely seemed to put her career first, which is fine, but I didn't like how she would string Cooper along, especially when he was very clear about putting her first. I didn't think their relationship as a couple was the best and Cooper was too good for her. I feel like there needed to be a stronger bond between them since they have years of history together. It felt very one sided with Cooper putting in more effort into their relationship while Ellery didn't seem concerned about him and was rather preoccupied with her career and her dad (which I also didn't understand and felt his role was unnecessary). Despite this, I had a great time with the Chicago Grizzlies and I'm very excited to see what the authors have planned for their next series!

Oh my days... this book was extremely rushed, and there was no chemistry between Cooper and Ellery. Ellery pissed me the fuck off, this woman was a baby adult. She was not ready for a relationship at all, it's surprising she's a doctor considering the fact she is unable to make any of her own decisions. She literally would do anything daddy dearest said.

All the characters telling Cooper to grovel to win her back annoyed me because he honestly did nothing wrong. Ellery never put him first and always kept him at arm's length. She seemed like a petulant child. I do agree that Cooper was moving a bit fast but I do think that was easily amendable with some communication. This whole book was just so silly.

💜 happily ever after

Slow burn 🔥 Cooper & Ellery have been best friends for ten years and never crossed the line. Everyone sees the love and respect they have for each other.

How do they finally admit their feelings and cross that line? A lot of slow burn and angst, a dash of intervening friends and plenty of twists and turns. BUT it’s worth it!

I LOVE the friend group in this entire series! I like how the same characters are in book 3 that were in book 1. We get a primary story and cameo updates from the others. It feels like we get to watch them all grow. They can all be standalones- but don’t deprive yourself. You should devour them all.

This series has felt like sitting down and watching your favorite sitcom and wanting to binge the whole season. Each chapter feels like a new episode.

I will miss these characters so so much. Except for her dad- I don’t like him. Fabulous series. One of my favorites!

I received an advance copy of this book for free and am leaving a review voluntarily. Many thanks to Valentine PR, publisher and authors for the opportunity to review. Reviews will be left on GR, Amazon, tiktok.

Cooper Rice --- SWOOOOON!
I am in love with Cooper Rice for sure!
This friends to lovers romance will make you swoon so hard! I devoured this story so fast.

Cooper and Ellery have been friends since college. Even though they started off a little romantic they soon decided to be friends instead.
I genuinly enjoyed their story. They both had taken a while to figure out their feelings and go for what they wanted. My heart broke and my eyes welled up with tears at times because I adore these two so much.

For me this story was the best so far! It was full of emotion and swoony moments.

SOMETHING LIKE LOVE is Cooper and Ellery's story, we have been teased by these two in the previous books, they are best friends but the chemistry they have is so strong you knew it was just a matter of time before something happened between them the question of the hour is why hadn't it happened sooner. Well, ladies and gentlemen we get that answer and so much more in this final book of the CHICAGO GRIZZLIES SERIES.

Friends to Lovers is one of my favorite tropes so I couldn't wait to get this story. Cooper Rice is the quarterback for the Chicago Grizzles and has been friends with Ellery Wallace since Junior Year of College. They had an instant connection but after certain events took place decided to just remain best friends. Well fast forward eight years and here we are, she is a respected Doctor in a busy ER, he is a Pro Athlete, and their connection is just as strong if not stronger than it was all those years ago.

Thank you to Valentine PR for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Piper Rayne does it again! I am such a sucker for sports romance yall!

Ellery and Cooper have been bffs since junior year of college. Ellery is an ER doctor and Cooper is quarterback of the Chicago Grizzlies. Ellery decided a long time ago to place Coop in the friend zone so she will never lose him. How does Coop feel about it? He has always had a thing for Elle.

Can these two friends become lovers once and for all???

I loved going back to the world of the Chicago Grizzlies for Cooper’s story. This book was delivered in dual POV and full of emotion. Cooper’s character was so genuine and I could not help but root for him. Ellery is very career driven and likes to be in control. This may or may not have impacts in her love life. She drove me crazy a couple times, not going to lie.

These two bring lots of drama to their friend group but only the best kind.

FYI there is a third act breakup, but some steamy moments… bow chicka wow wow.

If you are down for sports romance, I suggest giving this book a read. This is book three in a series but can be read as stand alone. Some of characters in this book have been introduced in previous books of the series.

Friends-to-lovers? Check. Emotional tension so thick you’d need a butter knife and some patience to get through it? Double check. 😮‍💨👀🏈

Something Like Love is like a slow-burning rom-com where the football star gives foot rubs and the doctor is the one calling the plays. Cooper is a walking green flag, and their chemistry? Hotter than a stadium seat in July. 🔥📋💚

It’s sweet, it’s swoony, it’s the kind of love story that makes you want to high-five fate …and maybe text your bestie “just to check in.” 😏📱💘

Absolutely loved this book!! The F2L trope is probably my least favorite but the authors know how to pull you in & make a F2L fan out of me!

C & E’s story was the perfect push and pull, angsty, rooting for them, wanting to spank them both, swooning, loving book!

Their friend group is the best and the way they concocted a friend’s weekend was EPIC!

I am excited to see what’s next for PR! Thank you to Valentine PR and the author for this ebook in return for my honest review

O.m.g…. There are not enough words to explain how Something Like Love is!
This book is so flipping good! It’s entertaining! Its wonderful and just everything!
Cooper & Ellery, the best of best friends! I loved their story so much, the authors have definitely left the best for last.
Cooper is a professional football player, Ellery is a doctor. These two along with their friends get along famously.
Ellery starts dating someone and Cooper is not sure what to do with himself. Needless to say the banter, the friendships, the struggles and the feelings all round up this incredible story. They both have specific wants in life, can they get past their past and make the jump to more or do they just stay friends. Go 1- click. This book will give you the tumultuous ride of your life.
I absolutely loved it!

At last we have Cooper and Ellery’s story and it was worth the wait!

Best friends forever both of them are aware of their attraction to the other but too much time has passed for them to act on it. They are also both scared of losing their friendship if things go wrong.

Some interfering friends and a case of the green eyed monster help push them in the right direction. Things in the course of true love never run smoothly though and there are a number of people and obstacles in the way before Cooper and Ellery get their HEA.

I loved that this story is interspersed with Miles and Bryce and Damon and Adeline.

Piper Rayne definitely saved the best for last and I loved it but I’m sad that this series is now over.

Thanks to @ValentinePR and Piper and Rayne for an advanced copy of this story.

My Favorite book in the Chicago Grizzlies series. Cooper is my latest book boyfriend and brings on the swoon. Friends to Lovers that move to more is one of my favorite tropes.

Ellery and Cooper meet in college, become friends, have a hint of romance, but make a pack to remain friends. But now is the time to cross that line, and their story was a hard to put down read. The way these two support each other and put their friendship first. But Cooper is all in, and he just needs to convince Ellery.

I am sorry to see this series end, but I am sure the next one will be worth the wait.

Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.

Something Like Love is the third and sadly the final book in Piper Rayne's phenomenal Chicago Grizzlies series and to be completely honest I am not ready for this to be the end! Something Like Love is an addictive best friends to lovers story and is Cooper and Ellery's journey to love.
Cooper Rice, star quarterback for the Chicago Grizzlies has been in love with his best friend ever since he first laid eyes on her. Early on in their friendship both Ellery and Cooper knew the relationship between them was something substantial and truly life changing, so to make sure they didn't risk losing the most important person in their lives, Elle wanted Coop to promise her that they'd never cross the line into something more, to protect themselves from having to live life without each other.
"We'd woven our friendship into the fabric of our lives, and I would have been devastated if we tried our luck at romance and it made us worse, not better."
So for the past ten years Coop has had Elle by his side just not in the way he so desperately wants and even though Coop would love more, being Elle's friend is just as great and for years it was enough, it's been Coop and Elle against the world. So when Elle starts dating someone on the Grizzlies it's bringing a side of Coop out that he doesn't like and it's making his attraction to his best friend rise to a boiling point and all he wants to do is make Elle his.
Coop's jealously is making his and Elle's relationship strained, he's acting in a way Elle doesn't like and if this is the new side of Coop she doesn't want anything to do with it or him.
After being tricked into a weekend away by their friends, to get their friendship back on track nobody could have predicted how well the weekend would go! Spending time together in a secluded cabin in the woods made the attraction between them too hard to ignore and made the walls and restrictions that have been held in place for so long crumble. But Elle still has doubts about crossing the line into something more, she doesn't want to lose Coop but their friendship cannot survive the way it's been going these last couple of weeks. Which begs the question do Ellery and Cooper need to take the risk of possibly losing each other to find true happiness in each others arms?
"We've denied this for so long. I'm the one who made him promise we'd only ever be friends because I was so scared. The feeling of losing him was too great to bear"
However the transition from friends to something more is harder than either one of them could have imagined. Can you really build a relationship set to last forever when the constant fear of losing the only person you've ever loved, your best friend, your whole world, the person who has been there for you through the ups and downs and the big moments of your life the last ten years, is ever present, bubbling to the surface every chance it gets, stopping you from fully embracing this new side of your relationship and making you question everything?
"I thought that if we ever got together, things would be perfect. I never thought I'd struggle as much as I have these weeks that we've been together."
Has trying to be more than friends broken a decade long friendship?
Read Something Like Love now to find out if Cooper and Ellery manage to get their happily ever after!
I absolutely LOVED Something Like Love there is no words strong enough or even good enough to describe how truly phenomenal this book is! Cooper and Ellery gripped me from the very start and I could not put it down until I devoured it all, it was that great!! If you've read the previous books in this incredible series you like me would have been eagerly and slightly impatiently waiting for Coop and Elle's story and let me tell you it certainly didn't disappoint! It was so much better than I could have ever imagined! I am sad that this is the end of the Chicago Grizzlies I absolutely LOVE these characters and the Grizzlies world but I cannot wait for the Chicago Falcons especially a certain Falcon's story that I have been waiting for, for what seems like forever! Piper and Rayne are my all time favourite authors, I have read every book of theirs and with every book I say I can't possibly see how they can beat this one it's incredible, but every time they prove me wrong and I love it! I will say I think they are going to have to pull something spectacular out of the bag to knock Something Like Love off of my top spot and I cannot wait to see them try!
I received an arc of Something Like Love and I am voluntarily leaving my review.

Ellery will not let herself cross the line when it comes to her very best friend + star quarterback for the Chicago Grizzlies, Copper Rice . No matter how gorgeous, tentative or generous he is, eight years ago Ellery made Copper promise to never cross that line with her either . But as time moves on + the two of them become closer, their relationship is changing into something more . Ellery doesn’t know what to do but she knows that no matter what she decides, she will be altering their future either way .

Copper Rice may be the star quarterback for the Chicago Grizzlies but he most defiantly not what the tabloids say about him . Copper is the furtherest thing from a playboy, he is actually a simple man who wants to settle down with someone, start a family + order pizza on the regular . The girl of his dreams has been right in front of him for so long but he refuses to break the promise he made to her all of those years ago . But as the two of them start to become closer, Copper doesn’t know how much longer he can keep his word .

COPPER SWOON RICE !!!! Holy bananas that man can melt anyone into a puddle ! Copper + Ellery are the perfect match for each other and that’s what made this slow burn, friends-to-lovers such a smash hit ! Not to mention that this friend group is one of my favorites to read about .

This is book three in the Chicago Grizzlies series + it can be read as a complete stand alone .

Ellery and Cooper's story felt like it was a long time coming but I'm so happy to finally have read it.

It wasn't at all what I had expected, however, it was eye-opening, easy to read, and filled with longing, love, and hope.

Having their earlier days being sprinkled in between their current predicaments and sweet moments was perfection. It gave us all the little pieces that we had been missing about why they hadn't taken that next step—why they had only ever been best friends.

Taking the plunge was never going to be easy. Both Ellery and Cooper had some issues to deal with as their relationship changed, and at one point I could not believe what I was reading. Disbelief and confusion was the only way to describe it, but with some help from the friend group, it was quickly cleared up for me.

I could say so much more about these two but I'll leave it at that so I don't spoil any of the good bits for you.

It was so wonderful to catch up with the Grizzlies and their girls again. We also got introduced to some new characters!

I'm super happy to have read the bonus scene. Make sure to grab it, it contains some clues as to what we might get next since this series is done.
Not to mention, it also gives us some insight into our couples in the future. Let me just say, it was the cherry on top of this delicious morsel.

This is my first book by Piper Rayne AND I AM HOOKED!

Not only did the Cooper & Ellery’s friendship hook me from the beginning, but their friend group is GOLD. It is what everyone deserves to have.

After being friends for 10 years and never crossing the friendship line - the definition of slow burn- they need a little push to have them cross the line because they won’t cross the line without it even though they have both thought about it over the years.

Cooper is the most patient man I have ever read about and is all in for the relationship and Ellery, who is such a boss, is the one that needs to catch up to where Cooper is.

The story and characters felt realistic with their struggles and the choices they make along the way. I love how the book highlighted that relationships are HARD even when you know someone so well. Being together might be easy, but making a relationship work takes work and showing this makes me love a book even more.

I devoured this book and was both sad and happy when i got to the last page. I am now going to run and read their entire back list sooooooo GO READ THIS BOOK.

Complimentary ARC copy received by Valentine PR and voluntarily reviewed.

Oh, gosh where to start.

We started of pretty good. Great, actually.

Cooper and Elle have been best friends for 10 years, ever since college.
They never crossed the the line , and they say they have no intention for it, but everyone else around them straight up disagrees.
They have such a great friendship and you can practically see the sparks around them, but no one makes a move.. until one road trip weekend where they get tricked into admitting their feeling.

The story had such great potential. They both took a while to admit what everyone already knew, and I couldn't wait for that moment to come because we all know how AH-MAZING that gets in a best-friends-to-lovers story, especially when the MMC gets her for himself after being so jealous and seeing her date someone else. The greatest wake up call, if you will 😏

But after that, I felt like it all went six-ways-to-Sunday sideways.
She started acting like a literal child, when she is over 30 years old.
WHY for the love of God. You are not in college anymore.
I'm talking about the sacrifice I would make for you. Anything, Elle. I'd do anything as long as you were in my life. Quit football. Done."

And please do not get me started on the Super Bowl scene. I never want to read that kind of paragraph again.
If there's one unpopular book opinion you're going to hear me talk about, it's the

I’ve got just the cure for that football hangover now that the NFL season has ended, with this new sports romance, Something Like Love, the final book in the Chicago Grizzlies series.

This features Cooper and Ellery’s story, a friends-to lovers story with an amazing friend group, and all the mutual pining and angst as these college friends decide to take a chance on love.

I love the friends-to-lovers trope, and thought that Cooper and Ellery made the cutest couple that was there for each other, even as one obstacle after another is thrown their way.

I was fairly invested in this book until the lovers part of this friends to lovers story kicked in.

The characters were likeable, but not especially memorable. The plot wasn’t anything new, which is fine! But there were parts that were far too similar to another friends to lovers football romance that I read in December, so it’s really hard not to compare the two when the other was one of my top reads of 2023.

Ellery and Cooper worked so much better as friends in my opinion. There was no real chemistry and it all felt so rushed and when they got together (far too early in the story) it was incredibly anticlimactic and everything that came after felt unnecessary and tedious.

Something Like Love is my first book by Piper Rayne and I haven’t entirely ruled her out for future reads, but this wasn’t a great first impression.

Thank you to Valentine PR for the ARC.

Piper Rayne saved my fave for last, and (GASP) it’s a friends to lovers. This almost never happens! I just really loved these two and loved watching them move from friends to more.

I thought Piper Rayne did a great job making this realistic, and this found family was so entertaining!

Something Like Love was the final book in the Chicago Grizzlies series by the authors Piper Rayne.

We finally get Cooper and Ellery’s story. The authors have been dancing around these best friends from the beginning. A true friends to lovers plot. I enjoyed the progression as well as the mini conflicts, although I didn’t always understand Ellery’s issues. And true to form, the other characters from the series played a strong role in this storyline as well. We were left with a great segue into their new series, the Chicago Falcons, the local NHL team, so we now move from “the Den” to “the Nest” and I can’t wait.

I really enjoyed this series. This one was probably my least favorite, but I still liked it. I’m not as big a fan of friends to lovers. Plus the reason they weren’t together seemed weak to me. Maybe because I’m not a people pleaser. I’m more of a tell me I’m not allowed to do something, and I’ll do it faster. The writing is still excellent. The tension is great. The banter is fantastic.

ALC Review!

This was my first Piper Rayne book, and I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook. While this is the third book in the 'Chicago Grizzlies' series, it can be read as a standalone. However, I recommend starting from the beginning when the books are interconnected to better understand the secondary characters.

Cooper and Ellery, inseparable since their college days, have both been harboring feelings for each other, but remain just friends to safeguard their friendship. Fast forward ten years, and Cooper is on the football field playing for the Grizzlies, while Ellery pursues a medical career, following in her father's footsteps.

When Ellery starts to date Cooper's teammate, his jealousy puts a strain on their friendship. Later, as Cooper finally decides to act on his feelings, he is ready to take significant steps in their relationship, while Ellery remains hesitant, adding further tension to their evolving relationship.

This friends-to-lovers book features a cinnamon roll MMC and a strong, independent, hardworking FMC. The secondary characters, which feature in the previous books, make a great addition to this one. I recommend this book for anyone wanting something light to read with just the right amount of spice. Aaron Shedlock and Emma Wilder, the narrators, brought the characters to life with their wonderful portrayals. Although this wasn't my first audiobook narrated by Emma Wilder, I have since become a fan of her exceptional narrations!

I really enjoyed Something like Love by Piper Rayne.

It's a beautifully written and entertaining friends to lovers romance that had me turning the pages.
I loved both Cooper & Ellery, I enjoyed their friendship and how they both didn't want to lose the other if they gave into their feelings. I felt for them, their career's made it hard on any relationship let alone one that may fracture a deep friendship like they shared.

From the previous Chicago Grizzlies books I never doubted these two were perfect for one another, they shared the special connection you need to get through all that life throws at us.

Something like Love is a beautiful and heartwarming goodbye to the Chicago Grizzlies series, I loved how each of them found their happily ever after.

I had really high hopes for this ARC, but it was just not hitting the way it should. The characters were fine, but so couldn’t deal with the plot. Friends to lovers is one of those tropes that I either love or hate…it just wasn’t doing it for me this time.

I honestly had whiplash from this relationship. They literally went from besties to not speaking to forced proximity to I love you. It was so insta-love adjacent and it just made me not even excited when they got together.

Overall this just felt like the authors were rushing through to try to end the series. I couldn’t get into it at all, but if you’re a fan of insta-love and friends to lovers, you might enjoy this one. It just wasn’t for me.

The last of the Grizzlies trilogy, Cooper Rice has loved Dr Ellery Wallace since college, but somehow they just never got together, afraid to go past the stage of being best friends. But something changes when Ellery starts dating another player on the team, and wears his jersey instead of Cooper’s. On top of it all, Cooper feels like her father is trying to pull them apart. When Ellery acts like that’s what she wants, he’s afraid that she doesn’t love him the same way he loves her so he dumps her and concentrates on winning the championship. The question is, will they survive?
I enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to everyone.
