No more do overs. This is it.

Commander Redux finds himself on a mission of recovery while war with the Founders rages on. Under orders from what's left of the retreating Brigade fleet, Redux must now seek out the source of a mysterious mayday message and locate an old friend long presumed dead.

Along with Floyd and a Raven crew handpicked by Dixie herself, Redux must make the most important decision of his life and return to Earth in the hope of retrieving a weapon that may ensure the fleet's survival.

Will he be able to finally provide a safe future for Dixie and her child without the ability to correct the past? How many more sacrifices will it take to ensure a safe future for all of humanity?

At the end of the first Redux book, I wondered what could possibly interfere with the escape from the moon while war with the Founders raged on. Before I had time to consider the possibilities, a mysterious message came through for Commander Redux. The message seemed to have come from our hero’s faithful sidekick, Floyd, who had been presumed dead. If the message came from Floyd, how did he end up on earth. Earth, that once beautiful planet which had been disintegrated. Or, had it?

With the coordinates supplied in the mayday message, Redux convinced a ragtag crew of warriors to help rescue Floyd. And thus begins your journey through time, space, friendships, parallel universes, a few surprises and answers to Redux’s own destiny.

I could write more, but, I tend to write too much in my reviews. After all, I’m not writing the book, I’m here to tell you how much I liked this book and that I think you will like it too, even if you’re a first-time sci-fi reader.

A worthy sequel to the original "Redux: The Lost Patrol". Actually, this book was much easier to follow because there wasn't a lot of bouncing around in time. Redux, having lost his time traveling "War Pig" and his version of the battle robot Floyd when his younger self steals the Pig, is now a refugee being ferried with hundreds of others to be resettled on Mars.

However, the transport he's on gets a message from his Floyd on an all but abandoned Earth. Included are a set of coordinates, and Redux convinces a motley team of fighters to join him in search of Floyd.

Cunningham once again shows himself to be the master of gritty, dystopian, SciFi action/military violence. There's an almost non-stop series of battles that leave Redux on the edge of death. In this book, he discovers the ultimate destiny of Floyd and the Pig as well as his own.

Mr. Cunningham must be a fisherman. He dangles the plot bait, slyly bouncing it through the water of the mind, and then once the reader feels the plot worth following, ZING he sets his hook and reels the reader in.

That’s how I felt reading this book. Full disclosure, I read his first book, Redux: The Lost Patrol, and this one picks up exactly where the last one left off—which can be a bit confusing through the first chapter, but as you get into it, you find this book is stand-alone in its storytelling.

I rooted for the good guys, booed the bad guys, and cried when—well, let’s just say there was some loss. Like the first book, this one ends with all possibilities of there being more to come for a man named Redux, or Red, depending on which timeline you’re following. LOL
