Reeve and McIntyre make the perfect pairing in this daring and fun early chapter book. We follow Pedro, a tiny mouse desperate to explore the world beyond the cosy corners of Hilltop House. Armed with nothing but his suitcase and coat, Pedro ventures to the beach. It is not long before the little mouse is quite literally whisked away and meets a team of experienced and well travelled Adventuremice. But how will Pedro ever impress the gang? Readers will have to wait to find out whether he has got what it takes to become a permanent member of their crew.
This is a heartwarming tale wrapped with courage, determination and kindness. McIntyre’s illustrations are a delight and Reeve’s humorous, pacy narrative makes this a sure winner for any Year One class.

Extremely cute! The illustrations are colorful and charming, and the story is action-packed and zips along at a nice pace — it’s all I could ask for in an early chapter book! Kidlet pored over the detailed island map at the end and immediately wanted to read the next book in the series.

Did I buy this book because of the pun in the title? Absolutely. Thankfully, it was a lot more than just stupid wordplay. It's a super cute and fun children's book about a brave group of mice. Our protagonist Pedro is a young mouse who has always dreamed of going on adventures. So he leaves home and, after an initial mishap, joins a band of mice called the Adventuremice. Each one has a special skill that helps them carry out reduces and adventures. They have taken up the task of keeping the residents of Mouse Islands safe. Just after Pedro arrives, a dangerous otter appears and the Adventuremice must do what they can to keep everyone safe. Will Pedro finally get the chance to prove himself or will this dangerous foe be too much for him?

Obviously, this is a book for younger readers so it's not doing anything remarkable. Most older readers will be able to guess where it's going before they even start it. However, that doesn't really matter. The characters are great and it does exactly what it needed to do for the intended readers. It is an exciting story about courage and reaching your potential. Pedro is young and the Adventuremice underestimate him. He is determined to prove his worth and doesn't give up. Obviously, the moral of the story is wrapped up in plenty of silliness and fun. It also introduces us to a great world and some fantastic characters. As the start of a series, this shows some great potential and I'd happily look into any future instalments.

The illustrations are also incredibly cute and I loved the addition of a drawing guide at the end. This is the kind of book that young readers would absolutely love and the fact that it has added features will only help them engage more. The book is fast-paced and always moving forward. There is plenty of humour and fun so parents and kids will enjoy this one.

A young mouse named Pedro lives with his family, but yearns for adventure. In Otter Chaos! Pedro takes the step of packing his suitcase and leaving. He finds himself at sea, and then rescued by one of the Adventure Mice. Profiled at the beginning (in both books), Millie, Juniper, Ivy, Fledermaus, Bosun and Skipper are a courageous group of mice who keep all inhabitants of the Mouse Islands safe. With a seaplane, helicopter, submarine and ship at the Mousebase, these intrepid heroes are ready for everything. But Pedro wonders, what can he help with?

These are gentle adventures with other animals and creatures. In Otter Chaos, Pedro helps manage the hungry otter who fancies mice for dinner, and proves himself to be an important part of the Adventuremice team. In Mermouse Mystery, the Adventuremice find a lost Mermouselet, and, in returning her to her family of Mermice, get to know the world under the sea. Both stories are rousing adventures that include cooperation, teamwork and fun machines. Language includes lots of description and dialogue, with some challenging vocabulary but lots of context clues to figure it out. Brightly colored and detailed illustrations abound and the books are printed on sturdy paper, unlike some series paperbacks. Each book has a map of the Mouse Islands at the back as well as a a drawing tutorial.

My son and I have loved reading this book together, a chapter each evening.

He is almost 5 and this is his first chapter book; turns out it was the perfect choice. There are still plenty of pictures (which are really beautifully created) but plenty more text than the books he was reading at bedtime - this is over 100 pages afterall.

This is a really nice story that left each chapter on a cliffhanger meaning we were always looking forward to finding out what happened next the following night.

The physical book has such a nice tactile quality too with high quality paper and vivid colours that added to the pleasure of reading it.

The story is a feel-good adventure that prioritises fun but also illustrates a strong message of doing the right thing, being brave and working together which I really liked. We're looking forward to reading the next one!

Anyone who knows me a little, knows I’m a huge otter lover 🦦 So obviously I had to buy and read this book when I saw it. Just look at those cute drawings 🥰

This was, ofcourse, a children’s book but I really enjoyed reading it because it had a beautiful message to children. It’s kind of a short story, but it is about a little mouse called Pedro. Pedro would like to go on some kind of awesome adventure so he decides to head out and conquer the world! 💪🏻 However, he didn’t expect it to be so tough. On his adventure he meets the Adventuremice who at first don’t really see something in Pedro and send him home.

But then something happens and Pedro gets the chance to prove himself worthy of being part of the Adventuremice crew. I thought the story was wonderfully thought out with hidden messages about being yourself and that being scared isn’t always a bad thing. And the drawings made it such a nice thing to read.

Two of my favorite quotes, both came from Pedro:
🦦 “𝘐𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯’𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘩𝘦’𝘴 𝘣𝘢𝘥,” 𝘴𝘢𝘪𝘥 𝘗𝘦𝘥𝘳𝘰. “𝘞𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘸𝘦’𝘳𝘦 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘦 𝘩𝘪𝘮.” - Pedro
🦦 “𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘺 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦. 𝘉𝘶𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘣𝘦 𝘉𝘙𝘐𝘓𝘓𝘐𝘈𝘕𝘛.” - Pedro

This book was written by @thesolitarybee and beautifully illustrated by @jabberworks and I gave it 3 stars on @goodreads however I’d rather have given it 3,5 but that’s not possible on Goodreads unfortunately 🙈

I had the great pleasure of meeting Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre at a children’s event recently, and so I bumped up some of their books in my TBR pile. This was a very entertaining MG book, with mild peril, enjoyably absurd antics, and some fantastic illustrations. Great for any disengaged readers who enjoy some action in their books.

Read this aloud to my kids, and I will admit, before reading it it thought it was probably overhyped. It is SO cute…with adventure that captured their imagination (even my son, who often prefers nonfiction, or only stories that involve space). There is a solid moral lesson as well, gently included. Highly recommend and look forward to try rest of the series!

My son and I love reading the AdventureMice series. We both adore Pedro and all the charming AdventureMice characters. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, and we’ve spent so much time just sitting together, taking in every little detail on the pages. The map of Mouse Islands at the end is a favourite! A perfect pick for anyone who loves a fun adventure.

Oh wow, I love this story! All because the bad guy gets kindness extended to him.
I love how the MC can see what is the same about what happened to him and what is happening to the bad guy, and he chooses to show compassion. And the whole crew get on board to help him because of Pedro.
Such a lovely message!!

The illustrations are so gorgeous and beautifully coloured in a watercolour style. Perfect for readers ready to move from picture books to books with a bit more writing.

My favourite duo is back! Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre are back with a new book (and hopefully series because I need more).

I am always super excited when this duo writes a new book! I loved their A Not-So-Impossible Tale series. The Kevin series was fun! And I love Sarah McIntyre’s art + picture books. I got a whole collection. So of course when I saw this new upcoming book I had to get it! Plus, it featured some of my favourite animals, mice!

In this one we meet Pedro, a tiny mouse with BIG BIG adventures! He loves his home, he loves the stories and the hot drinks, but it is just not enough. He wants to experience an adventure! And haha, he lands smackdab in one when he gets swept in the sea! And so he meets the AdventureMice! A group of mice who do all sorts of exciting adventures, help out others, and do some kick-ass stuff. He is immediately in love and wants to be a part of it. But he will have to prove himself, though that mostly means him just asking to be part and doing some initiative, because the AM are a bit hesitant about adding another one to their ranks. I loved Pedro and I loved that despite that things aren’t going the way he wanted it to go, he dives right into it and does his best to make this an adventure and to be accepted. I found myself rooting for this tiny mouse to be accepted and to have the biggest and grandest of adventures! I loved that Pedro helped around, made some big decisions, and did some great things.

I loved reading about all the AdventureMice (and all their different members and all they could do) and Pedro encounter on their trip to find the otter! From little islands and small harbours filled with mouse activities. I would so love to be a little mouse and live a life on or near sea! Sail my little boat wherever I want. Ah, sounds like the life! We do learn that humans are also around (and sadly… making a mess of it). But for most you could just forget that they existed. For me it was just a world filled with animals and their fun homes and places. And filled with adventure of course!

At first I wasn’t such a fan of the otter, but as the story continued and we learned some more… I liked him better. I did love his name.

The ending was fab, that part with the postcard, it took me a bit but when it clicked I was like WAIT WAIT WAIT. I loved that!

All in all, this is one book that I enjoyed so much. I read it in one go and it was oodles of fun. I hope that we get more adventures with the AdventureMice.
