America’s hypersonic missile program is in disarray. Critical to the nation’s global defense, failure is unthinkable.
When cyber-security specialist Adam Braxton is asked to investigate the problems, he doesn’t expect to travel to an isolated launch site on Kodiak Island in Alaska. But he makes the trip and discovers a strangely coded message that could point to a saboteur.
Back in Washington, Braxton and his partner, Sydney Walker, decode the message only to then fall into the crosshairs of a vengeful former enemy, a ruthless presidential candidate, and a deadly intelligence officer. As their suspects keep dying, the pair will need the help of all their friends to stay alive and uncover the truth behind the conspiracy.
Weaving start-of-the-art technology, cutthroat politics, and international intrigue, The Kodiak Countdown is another breath-taking episode in the Adam Braxton Thriller series.
Jack Bowie was born and raised outside of Cleveland, Ohio, then headed to Cambridge, Massachusetts to attend MIT. After graduating, he held technical management positions in public and private sector organizations in Massachusetts, Virginia and Connecticut.
During these years, he saw firsthand the successes and failures, friendships and rivalries, and alliances and conflicts that build our high tech life.
A lifelong reader of classic science fiction and espionage thrillers, Jack's writing began as a break from professional duties and grew into a passion for storytelling.
Jack splits his time between homes in New Hampshire and Georgia where he lives with his wife Sharon and two loveable, but very demanding, Shih Tzus.
Cyber-security specialist Adam Braxton is sent to Alaska to investigate a problem with an American missile program and makes an alarming discovery. Meanwhile, his partner, back home, is in danger from a seemingly different villain. What ensues is a breakneck Le Carré-style tale of espionage and intrigue with more twists and turns than San Francisco’s famous Lombard Street.
I’ve been a fan of Bowie for a while, have read three in his Braxton series and plan to read them all (The Langley Profile is my personal favorite so far). The author never disappoints. He does, however, make us wonder if he knows stuff we don’t know as he expertly describes scenarios and the implications, which is the mark of a master storyteller. All of his books are stand-alone, so you don’t have to begin with a particular title but be forewarned. They’re addictive. One leads to two, which becomes three and the reader dearly hopes Bowie stays ahead of the need to read another.
The Kodiak Countdown promised intrigue, and it did not disappoint. It kept me on the edge of my seat, and I could not put it down. There were several times I had to remind myself to breathe. It drew me in, and I felt like one of the characters; sitting beside Braxton, solving puzzles and uncovering mysteries. I haven’t read all of Bowie’s books, but I slipped easily into his world and its characters. I look forward to reading the rest of the series, and I’m glad I have a few extra to catch up on.
