I received a gifted advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Kaleidoscopic book tours.

Sunshine Simpson Cooks Up A Storm is the second book is a middle-grade series. This book tackles many topics children of this age experience and face, such as dealing with change, loss, navigating friendships, bereavement changing schools, family situations, and of course, growing up. Sunshine is (as her name suggests) a breath of fresh air, and I really enjoyed her character, resilience, and growth in this book. I'm going to be gifting my copy to my daughter, who's the same age as Sunshine and look forward to discussing this book with her. I thought the author did a great job with the inclusion of Black History Month in this story and discussion around handing racism which sadly does still occur in the school environment today.

A solid follow up to My Name is Sunshine Simpson.
Sunshine is now in year 6 of primary school, she is having to deal with not only the after effects of book 1, but also the changes that are to come. Changing schools, potential loss of friendships and growing up among them.
I really liked the friendships and family dynamic once again, but also how a visitor and different school pupil changes things. The discussions around Black History Month and Windrush were informative, but still left the reader to look into further. There was also discussions on how racism can be dealt with.
The author does a great job of showing and not telling and I've enjoyed spending time with Sunshine and her school Beeches Primary.

A lovely second book in the series. I loved watching the characters grow and change. I think some tough topics were touched on with such grace and empathy. Can’t wait for the next one.

This book is full of difficult friendships, dramas at school, a brilliantly family and some laugh out loud calamities!
Sunshine, herself, is a ray of light in a not always sunny world. The book tackles some really large themes of friendship, family situations, loss, dealing with change and bigotry.
The story has a really engaging narrative voice which will take the reader on a journey through the ups and downs of Sunshine’s life. Following the death of Sunshine’s beloved grandfather, Sunshine is about to start Year 6, he dad has started to work away from home a lot more and her mother is struggling with her own, very glamour mother, coming back into their lives after being absent for many years.
I haven’t read the first book but now I really want to! The illustrations are wonderful.
Highly recommend this feel good book for Upper Key Stage 2.

My first read by G.M Linton, Sunshine Simpson: Cooks up a Storm, is a book full of friendships, some of these difficult ones.
There's lots of school based drama and lots of calamitous fun.
The book tackles some pretty big issues and themes, from loss and bigotry to family situations.
I found this book to be very engaging with great character development.

The cover is brightly coloured and would stand out on any bookshelf.

Fabulously illustrated throughout by Fuuji Takashi, I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading more adventures to come for Sunshine and friends.

I give this an enjoyable 4 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 "s.
