I love cosy mystery and have been reading them since I read the first Lilian Jackson Braun and was involved in mysteries featuring a quant town, lovely pets, and amateur detective/detective.
My taste evolved and now, after years and a huge number of series I read, I’m quite spoiled and I know when I am going to love a series after a few pages.
The Cosy Craft Mysteries were one of those series that are a lot of fun and solid mysteries.
Penny, Izzy and the characters grew on me page after page, and I was fascinated by the descriptions of the fabrics and the tips and tricks of professional sewing.
My sewing skill are very basic, but I always wanted to be like Izzy: creative, with a lot of skill in a manual craft, and a lovely person.
Penny is more logical and business like, I wasn’t convinced at the beginning, but she grew on me.
This a general review so I will talk about the series and about the single instalments.

The Wonderland Murders is a good start for a cosy series: even if it introduces places and characters it’s quite fast paced and there’s always something going and keeping your attention alive.
I liked the solid mstery as it kept me guessing and surprised me with the twists. There’s a lot of culprits as the victim is not very likeable.
I appreciated how the author described the bully and how you couldn’t help feeling for the women.

The Painted Lobster Murders is the second book in the series, a highly entertaining and compelling story since the first pages. We meet Monty the dog, a lovely character I loved.
This is another solid and compelling mystery. There’s a lot going on in Penny and Izzy life and they’re developing business and managing the shop as Nan took the backseat.
A fast paced and solid mystery that I thoroughly enjoyed and kept me guessing.
My only note: I hate love triangle, it’s my cosy mystery pet peeve, and hope it will be solved soon

The Sequinned Cape Murders is the third in the series and I enjoyed it even if it’s not my favorite.. There’s more sewing than mystery but it’s also the one with Izzy under the spotlight and I thoroughly enjoyed this change. There’s romance, there’s another good mystery and the usual suspects.

The Swan Dress Murders is the fourth book in the series: another fast paced and entertaining mystery that kept me guessing. I was hoping that the love triangle was solved and hoped this is the last book with Penny who can’t decide.
I enjoyed the story and the complex plot even if there’s my pet peeve but it’s not a main point in the story. Penny and izzy are a good couple of investigators and they’re investigation are well done.
Another good story and the last published.

Cosy with a capital C, Millie Ravensworth has created the epitome of a relaxing village crime series in the “Cozy Craft Mysteries” based in Framingham, Suffolk. Funny, quirky and just positively unique in its simplicity, I loved every one of these books. The mysteries form only part of the story and fits in around the cosy life of the endearing characters.
I loved the banter between cousins Penny and Izzy as they reunited and began to adapt to each other’s personalities. Their camaraderie was my type of friendship and had me chuckling at their antics.
Nanna Lem, who is the owner of the Cozy Craft shop and also grandma to Penny and Izzy, is the pivotal character of the series and enjoys her five minutes of fame in each book. Her friendship to a fellow male resident where she is staying, is a joy to follow.
I don’t have much interest in dressmaking or handicrafts at all but I enjoyed how the sewing shop in rural Suffolk was the backdrop for this series and I actually learned a lot of interesting facts and tips.

Book 1 - “The Wonderland Murders” features the death of a thoroughly detestable bully, which obviously attracts a number of suspects. This intrigued me and kept my interest since I couldn’t work out the murderer due to the limited clues. Penny finds herself an unlikely suspect, needing to prove her innocence as well as help trap a killer. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book 2 - “The Painted Lobster Murder” sees Penny and Izzy involved in a murder at a client’s house and the introduction of an adorable Corgi dog named Monty, who really is the star of this book. With handyman Aubrey becoming friendly with Penny and Oscar, a fabric salesman taking a similar interest, could this be start of a budding romance for Penny? ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book 3 - “The Sequinned Cape Murders” focuses a lot more on Izzy and her family and the sewing side of the series, in particular the making of a replica 70’s Elvis costume for her dad. I liked the way the book opened with the dead body and a main character in the immediate frame for the death. A proper conundrum that Penny and Izzy do well to solve, using traditional sleuthing techniques. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Book 4 - “The Swan Dress Murders” is my favourite of the four books, an unusual death occurs of yet another unlikeable character but I was very intrigued as to how the mystery would be solved considering the bizarre clues left. There's a love triangle that's been active for a couple of books, that now looks like it could be decided upon. I'm not sure who I was routing for to be the suitor but the way things seem to be shaping, I'm quite satisfied if that's the outcome. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Opinion

This is the third book in the Cozy Craft Mystery Series. It could be read as a standalone but would be more enjoyable if read in order.

I have read the first three books in this series within a few days, I have really enjoyed them all. Penny returns to the craft shop to find a dead body sat on the toilet and for a few minutes believes that her cousin Izzy may be responsible. This is a great cosy mystery and is relatively short. I can see this series being adapted for a TV series.

A dead body in the toilet is not exactly what Penny is expecting when she returns to her new home at the Cozy Craft shop in Framlingham after a weekend away in London checking out fabric shops with Oscar, and the cryptic note left behind by Izzy has Penny suspecting her cousin of murder! It’s a real classic locked room mystery and while the police investigate who the woman was and how she came to be there, the ladies go to stay with Izzy’s rather wonderful parents Pat and Teddy. The move seems to bring out the worst in Monty, leading Izzy to set her sights on dishy dog trainer Marcin. Penny gets her first alarming glimpse of a Damascus goat called Dottie and her first taste of the madcap family’s musical nights. Uncle Teddy has his sights set on an Elvis costume for Nanna Lem’s upcoming eightieth fancy dress birthday party and the ladies set about making his costume whilst once again dabbling in a little amateur sleuthing themselves into the murder, but things certainly become complicated when a neighbouring shopkeeper is also discovered dead. Whilst up to their ears in rhinestones and ably assisted by Oscar and handyman Aubrey, will they uncover the truth this time?
The cast of characters in this lovely series gets bigger and more eccentric every time time and each new story is a real joy to read. Penny and Izzy make a formidable partnership, both in their sewing talents and also their ability to become embroiled in the strangest of crimes. Once again there is plenty of humour and charming interactions between everyone, and I am looking forward to book four, The Swan Dress Murders.

Penny returns to her shop to find a dead body on the toilet and a bizarre message from her cousin Izzy telling her not to inform the authorities. Who is the dead woman and why was she is in the shop?
The Sequinned Cape Murders is the third book in the Cosy Craft series of cosy murder mysteries. I have recently reviewed the first two books in the series: The Wonderland Murders and The Painted Lobster Murders.
Penny and Izzy have an unknown dead woman in their toilet. We are straight into the murder mystery compared to the previous books but we know nothing of the victim. There are no indications of her identity, how she got in their shop or how she died. The pair undertake an investigation whilst trying to sort out the costumes for a fancy dress party. I felt proud of myself as I guessed the culprit this time! This didn't spoil my enjoyment at all.
The murder has slightly more prominence in this book compared to the earlier books in my opinion. However there is still a hefty proportion of the plot dedicated to the sewing escapades of the main duo. There is also a romantic angle for both Penny and Izzy which was an enjoyable addition to the plot and series. The tone of the writing is light hearted and there is a gentle and warm humour layered throughout the plot and characters. I loved the home episodes showing us Izzy's family life and their quirky behaviour.
The Sequinned Cape Murders is a fun and enjoyable cosy murder mystery.

Having returned to the shop to find a dead body sitting on the toilet and a note from Izzy that leads Penny to mistakenly believe that Izzy has something to do with it, The Sequined Caped Murders begins with some wonderfully farce fuelled antics.

Having got to know Penny so well in the previous two books, it was so nice that it was the delightfully dizzy Izzy who took centre stage in this, the third book in the Cozy Craft Mysteries series, which sees our two protagonists off to stay with Izzy's parents, Teddy and Pat, where, preparing to celebrate Nanna Lem's 80th birthday, the girls set to making not making Teddy, not an Alice In Wonderland costume as in book one {The Wonderland Murders} nor a stylish dress suitable for a vintage car rally as in book two {The Painted Lobster Murders} but, yes, an Elvis inspired jumpsuit.

Yet another fun read which sees the two amateur sleuths busy ... what is it about these small villages and their higher than average murder rates? Like its predecessors, it is totally readable as a standalone novel though I'd strongly suggest that in order to best appreciate it the books should be read in order.

I was extremely excited to read 3 in the Cozy Craft Mystery series - although they can be read in any order there are little bits that will make more sense of read in order (such as Penny’s will they won’t they relationships with Oscar and Aubrey)

This one gets straight to the point with the suspicious death of a stranger in Penny’s bathroom. While both Penny and Izzy initially suspect each other they soon find themselves on a mission to find the killer and get answers.

Izzy really holds her own in this one and takes Penny (often rather unwillingly) along for the ride. Couple that with a new love interest for Izzy and the seemingly naive/oblivious nature of Penny when it comes to romance there’s a lot going on in this book. All of it bursting with humour and mystery.

In this third book we also get to see a lot more of some new characters - we are introduced to Izzy’s family who are somewhat eccentric but loving, as well as some of the other local business owners.

This has been my favourite book in the series so far - I love a locked room mystery and this one kept me guessing for sometime.

The Cozy Craft sewing shop has a new permanent addition to the team in the form of Monty the corgi. Penny and Izzy are busy creating costumes for the party guests who are due to attend their grandma’s 80th birthday party but another case is not far away and is closer to home than the other cases they have delved into. A mysterious woman is found dead in the bathroom of Penny’s flat above the shop. But how did she get there when the doors and windows were locked and the only people who have access to the keys are Penny, Izzy and of course their grandma who is still recovering from her illness. Who is the mysterious woman? Then a local shopkeeper is also found murdered, are the two cases connected? Only Penny and Izzy can uncover the truth and prove their innocence.

Wow, what an adventure. This is the third book in The Cozy Craft series and this particular instalment definitely grabbed my attention from the beginning especially when Penny finds a dead body in her bathroom. There was a noticeable parallel in that the body was discovered in Penny’s bathroom and Penny and Izzy being asked to create an Elvis costume for Izzy’s dad especially because of how Elvis was found before he died.

Now that I’ve read book three in the series all I can think about is that Framlingham reminds me a lot of Midsomer especially because of the numbers of murders taking place in one town. Midsomer may have formal detectives but Framlingham has Penny and Izzy who are also detectives but they also creative and crafty. Although this book was serious because of the murders it was also comedic. Izzy was definitely on form in this book and when she was speaking to the police officer I couldn’t help but laugh. I liked the addition of new characters in this book because we are introduced to Penny and Izzy’s family, in particular Izzy’s mum and dad. When Penny goes to stay with Izzy and her parents it’s clear that they are a quirky family and that Izzy gets her quirkiness from her mum and dad.

We also have the opportunity to explore some of the other shops in town including the old record shop which is full of records but also memorabilia. After reading a description of the shop it was a place that I wish I could visit. The storyline in this book was memorable and this is probably one of my favourite books out of the three that I’ve read so far. I was really intrigued as to how the person who entered Penny’s home could have done so when the building was locked and only three people had access to the keys. When this was solved and explained by Penny and Izzy, it was a stroke of genius because I never would’ve guessed. There was one clue that I picked up on at the start of the book that related to the shopkeeper and I was quite pleased when towards the end of the book when Penny and Izzy unravel how the two bodies are connected that I’d managed to pick up on it. There was also a new element to the series in the form of romance. Izzy meets Marcin after taking Monty to one of the behavioural courses for dogs and uses Monty as an excuse to see more of him. Penny finds herself in a love triangle. There’s Aubrey the painter who has been in the series since book one and then in the second book we are introduced to Oscar who is also in the crafting industry. Penny finds herself leaning more towards Oscar but finding that she is spending more time with Aubrey so she finds herself torn between the two.

By far my favourite of the Cozy Craft Mysteries.

The Sequinned Cape Murders by Millie Ravensworth continues the fabulous A Cosy Craft Mystery series and is book three.
Once more Izzy and Penny pair up to solve another couple of murders. The pair bounce off each other beautifully. They are loyal to each other as proven when a misunderstanding leaves each of them thinking the other committed a murder as the novel opens! As it is a cosy crime, the situation is rather amusing.
The craft shop is once more the focus of the community as the pair are sought out to provide fancy dress outfits for Nana Lem’s eightieth birthday.
Monty, the corgi, once more has a starring role as he is cast as match maker for Izzy.
A Cosy Craft Mystery series continues to entertain. It is light-hearted and highly amusing. It is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. It is on to book four for me now.

This is the third book in the ‘Cozy Craft Mystery’ series and again we see Izzy and Penny joining forces to solve another murder or two. These two, as always, end up working well together and succeeding where others have failed, a great pair of characters which you are sure to fall in love with!

This book can be read as a stand-alone or part of a series, if you do choose to read it as a standalone, then I am sure it will encourage you to check out the first two books in the series! These are indeed very cozy mysteries!

What a delight. The perfect light read, funny, warm, interesting. Although I don't know anything about sewing and couldn't care less, Millie (aka Heide Goody and Iain Grant) fills her books with humor, heart and compellingly real characters that you can't help but love. Have enjoyed all three books so far.

I love Izzy and Penny. I enjoy their family. I enjoy watching them build their sewing shop into a paying shop. I enjoy reading about Penny learning to sew. I find music night as home entertainment awesome. Sometimes you have to apologize to a goat. This was an interesting story. The books are well written. I've downloaded Book 4 and I'm glad there's two more for me to read.
