Bulldogs! Sci-fi That Kicks Ass

Rate this book
Bulldogs! is sci-fi that kicks ass! Bulldogs! is a high action space adventure. Bulldogs! is about freebooting ruffians flying from planet to planet causing trouble. Bulldogs! is about far future technology—sci-fi movie technology that probably wouldn’t work given what we know about the universe today, but who cares? Bulldogs! is about blasters and faster-than-light travel. Bulldogs! is about hopping from planet to planet and running into a vast variety of weird aliens. Bulldogs! is about being shot at and pissing off powerful locals and fleeing just in time. Bulldogs! is about starship dogfights and ambushes by space pirates in rarely traveled star lanes.

This is a fun setting and a good implementation of the FATE system. I've heard it called the "Han Solo RPG" and "Firefly with Aliens". Both are good descriptions. If you're familiar with other FATE games, this is very similar Spirit of the Century. It has some improvements from other games (such as Dresden Files), but keeps the same feel.

This and Diaspora (another FATE sci-fi game) are my two go-to sci-fi systems now: I'd choose Bulldogs! for space opera or for a "Firefly" like vibe and Diaspora for hard sci-fi or military sci-fi.

A solid implementation of the Fate rules. The tag line that sold me on this book was "the Han Solo RPG" and it certainly feels a bit like Star Wars without the Jedi.

Unlike a lot of games I've read lately, I think I'd rather play this one than run it, which means that it will probably be a while until it actually hits the table as I'm the only one in the group that owns a copy, and there isn't any interest from anyone else right now in running it.

I was looking for a Fate Space Opera rpg. Although this matched the description, I felt the book was lacking some of the flair that the introduction has.

I was pretty impressed. Makes good use of fate and has a good flexible system for ships and vehicles.
