Teddy: A Boy who Swam with Angels

Rate this book
Arizona, 1938. Teddy loves the Fourth of July the way other kids love Christmas, but he’s tired of being treated like a little kid. Now that he’s nine years old, this middle child yearns for time to himself—time to do the things he likes to do. Things his brothers couldn’t care less about.
During his family’s Fourth of July picnic at the Salt River, he slips away unnoticed, to wander and explore the glory of the Sonoran desert. Everything feels magical. . . right up until he realizes that he’s lost. Sizzling under the scorching summer sun, he’s desperate to cool off in the river, but he remembers the rule. . .No swimming in the river without an adult. He’d promised to keep the rule. . .and he knows promises shouldn’t be broken. In a sweaty panic, Teddy hatches a plan that doesn’t break the rule, but “bends” it a bit. When he accidentally plunges into the river, literally “in over his head,” Teddy couldn’t see a way out. Will he find his way back to his family, or will he be swept away? A Boy Who Swam with Angels is a middle grade chapter book. It’s an inspirational, faith-based story about a boy who comes face to face with the consequences of his choices. If you like unexpected heroes, and stories based on true events, you’ll love Teddy’s tale of faith and courage. Grab a copy of A Boy Who Swam with Angels and go with him on his frightening but miraculous, life-changing adventure.

A masterfully told tale that echoes the enduring charm of classic literature. It is a book that embodies the essence of what children’s literature should be, offering young readers a chance to immerse themselves in a story that nurtures their faith and encourages them to explore their spiritual growth. In my opinion, it is precisely the kind of book that families should cherish in their homes!

Set in a bygone era devoid of modern screens, the story invites readers to experience the joys of outdoor play and adventure. This nostalgic backdrop not only captivates the imagination but also instills a longing for exploration and discovery in the natural world. As children navigate the pages, they are reminded of the beauty of God's creation and the importance of cherishing the simple pleasures of life. The story highlights God's steadfast love for all His children, demonstrating how angels protect them and the vital importance of prayer.

Moreover, the storyline imparts valuable life lessons about the importance of keeping promises, adhering to rules, and listening to parental guidance. These themes are woven seamlessly into the storyline, making it not only an entertaining read but also a source of moral instruction. Young readers will be absorbed by the fascinating plot and characters they can connect with, providing a delightful experience they will be reluctant to set aside. Overall, this compelling tale is sure to leave a lasting impression, encouraging young readers to embrace their faith and the adventures that await them.

Sweet story of a young boy who gets lost in the AZ desert and falls into a river. (Being a native of Arizona, I enjoyed hearing about places and scenes I know so well). Teddy's bravery and listening to promptings help him survive. I got a little teary eyed as Teddy talked to his mom at the end. Enjoyed the story and am having my 8 yo son read it as well.
