H and h meet, greet, lust, fall into bed and engage in a relationship.
TWIST - H is a werewolf and somewhere out there he has a fated mate. h is told of this but H has reassured the h that she is it for him.
Rejected mate = H is head over heels for the h, but then his fated mate shows up. h begs the H to choose her, H says he needs time. h is gutted that H did not choose her. h leaves and disappears for years. H and his fated mate agree that they are not really right for each other and reject each other.
OW drama = H's secretary sets it up that when h calls, h will see the OW having sex with the H on FaceTime call. This crushes the h so much that she shuts down any hope of reconciliation with the H. In reality, the H was passed out drunk, OW stripped down, jumped into H's lap and simulated sex all to hurt the h. The fated mate was never cruel or mean to the h, so she never really caused any drama knowingly.
h sees H with OW = see above for interaction h saw with the secretary. h also had to see an intimate scene between H and his fated several times. 1st - she had to see the H and fated, foreheads pressed together, eyes closed and just breathing each other in. 2nd - H and fated had decided they would reject each other, after the rejection they hug and H kisses fated on the cheek. h's viewpoint showed the kiss as more than what it was from her angle along with the embrace. H also had a look of utter love and devotion on his face that broke the h's heart as he was looking at his fated in such a way. In reality, H was so relieved that he was finally able to move on from his fated and would now be able to concentrate on his real true love, the h and that was the look, his looking forward to knowing he was free to be with the h unrestricted.
F-preg = hidden pregnancy, but she DID try several times to let H know. 1st time - she was on her way to tell H when she witnessed the above described scene between the H and his fated right after their rejection. Optics made it look like H was content, settled and in love so h decided she could not interrupt their bond and leaves. 2nd time - she feels her baby kick and takes it as a sign from the universe that she must try again to let H know about the pregnancy. See above phone call/FaceTime that h had to witness with H and OW. For the h, that was it. No more attempts to include the H. In her mind, not only did the H have a fated mate he choose over the h, now he was cheating on said mate with OW. h thoughts were H did not need to be a part of her and her child's life.
So how did we get HEA? h comes back into town and just so happens to run into H at airport. They meet up later, talk it out, work it out and get back together.
Grovel? Really I do not think anyone once they can communicate effectively needed to grovel. h needed to understand the H's wolf and how that impacted him. Similar to basically the h being culturally ignorant of werewolf culture and trying to make H conform the human expectations. That is not fair and she needed to have given him more grace and understanding. H on his side, needed to communicate more about his feelings and needs as a werewolf (that was so weird to type). So really both sides had some culpability and I did not see a need for grovel.
As to missing out on his kid? Could the H really blame the h after she did make repeated attempts? With the way those attempts panned out, who could blame her?? So again, I did not think grovel was needed.
Good book, but throwing in there the werewolf part was very late in the game for the book and almost like a plot twist to cause drama and not really a part of the world building of the story.
