I was never looking forward to coming into work at the Common Grounds coffee shop and seeing Tenley Hill sitting at her usual table with her laptop. The most popular girl from high school always seemed to be harassing me and trying to get a free latte and being more infuriatingly pretty than ever. Then one day she comes in and she’s a total wreck. I make the massive mistake of asking her what’s wrong. Turns out her boyfriend dumped her and all wants to do is try and get him back. Tenley pours her heart out to me and for the first time, I see her as a person and not just the woman who annoys me every day. That moment of weakness causes me to agree to do something I never would have done under normal circumstances: date her. Well, pretend to date her. In public, wherever her ex will see us. She tells me it’s fine, because she doesn’t even like women so there will be no messy complications. I panic and tell her I’m straight too. At first I hate the role of being a fake girlfriend, but soon I find myself flirting with Tenley and dreaming of her kisses. She’s nothing like how I expected and before I know it, I’m falling for my heterosexual fake girlfriend and I have absolutely no idea what the hell I’m going to do about it.
Chelsea M. Cameron is a New York Times/USA Today/Internationally Best Selling author from Maine who now lives and works in Boston. She's a red velvet cake enthusiast, obsessive tea drinker, former cheerleader, and world's worst video gamer. When not writing, she enjoys watching infomercials, eating brunch in bed, tweeting, and playing fetch with her cat, Sassenach. She has a degree in journalism from the University of Maine, Orono that she promptly abandoned to write about the people in her own head. More often than not, these people turn out to be just as weird as she is.
Just didn’t ring as true as the others: totally straight author (um, read the back cover) and gay barista get together PDQ! Good enough to go onto Book 6 though… Chelsea’s writing flows.
Tenley’s breakup with Shane causes her to beg Mia to be her fake girlfriend, but despite every effort, she doesn’t get Shane back. What she does get is a dawning realization that her fake girlfriend means more to her than she expected. And when she finally tears down that wall she’s built around herself, let’s just say that there’s fire on both sides of a romance that is no longer fake in any way whatsoever.
Told from Mia’s perspective, you get to guess at what’s going on in Tenley’s head, but as the story progresses, it becomes clearer and clearer how Tenley’s really feels.
I usually love Cameron’s books, but this one felt off to me. This is a fake dating trope, and usually I like those. This one however I wasn’t a fan of because the love interest is trying to win back her ex-boyfriend for the majority of the book, and when that doesn’t work she tries dating her new friend, who pretended to be her girlfriend to make her ex jealous. It just threw me off this book. Remember, this is just my opinion and several other people seemed to enjoy it.
This is a new twist I’ve never considered…what a romp! I think most of us have someone in high school that was much like Tenley. Too high and mighty, thought too much of themselves, and perhaps we had a slight crush as well.
This story was just too delicious. I could relate to the boyfriend’s actions. Nothing between the ears but earwax! Mia handled it very well.
Mia agrees to do her least favorite customer a favor. Tenley asks her to be her fake girlfriend to make her ex boyfriend Shane jealous. (Not realizing that Mia is gay). Does the rouse work ? This is book 5 of the series and I've read all, waiting on book 6. If these books weren't good, I wouldn't have read the series! Do yourself a favor read them. This is a great slow burn, toaster oven romance. The sex is Hot! 5 stars!!
This was a really good book with a few strange and unfortunate details. There was a lot to love. Its relatively low angst and conflict, an easy read that goes quick, and stars a large cast of characters that I have spent several books getting to know. There is some (only a little unfortunately) fake-dating hijinks which is one of my favorite things ever. Both characters have more to them than you initially expect and I love all the extra details that make this book feel larger and more real.
My Rating: “B+” Converted Rating: 4-Stars
There were some confusing bits, some other pieces that didn’t really make sense, and some parts that seemed to be missing or skipped over. This seems to be a bit of a running theme with this series, along with some unexpected choices that didn’t quite make sense. These details are not enough to ruin the read, but enough to be noticed. The book goes so fast that you honestly miss any of the issues unless your paying attention.
The thing that stopped this from being 5-stars for me is that I didn’t really like Tenley that much, and she is the love interest so that’s not a good thing. She didn’t do anything unforgivable, and she wasn’t an objectively terrible person, so this still gets 4-stars…. I just didn’t really like her and some of the choices that she made.
Another fantastic book in this series. Mia - definitely gay, Tenley - definitely straight, end up fake dating and despite annoying the hell out of each other, realise they might just like each other. A fun story with no angst and a lot of sex toys. Give it a go, you just might like it :)
A very nice and funny love story about two women who went to the same high school but run in different circles. And are push into a fake relationship, and slowly but surely fall in love. Hard to believe at time , is still a wonderful story
Mia is a barista with side hustle as a sex toy designer and creator. Tenley is a secret author who just lost her boyfriend since high school. In a desperate effort to get him back she asks Mia to pretend to be her fake girlfriend. Surprisingly, Mia agrees. A funny romcom with a few laughs and lots of love. Great series.
Loved the characters in this book. Tenny was such a mess and then to ask Mia to do something impossible for her was a huge bonus. Your handling of this storyline was awesome. At times I could feel the attude that the characters were feeling. Looking forward to the next book!
Ms Cameron doesn’t disappoint once again with her Mainely Books series!! Such a fun read! Will Barista/adult toy maker and high school enemy writer (sapphic erotica!) turn their negative relationship into something positive?? Definitely read to find out! And maybe get some ideas for a new toy or maybe side hustle 😊
This is a fun addition to the Mainely Books Club series. The story arc combines high-school nemesis and fake dating tropes with a little angst and a fair amount of sex. There are also a few opportunities to catch up with many of the couples from earlier tales. This is an enjoyable read with a satisfying conclusion.
Another cracking book from this series. I think this one goes into second place for this set ( layne & Honor ftw) I think both the main characters are perfectly matched. Yes tenley is annoying at the start but she grew on me as the book went on. Once the walls came down and you see the real person underneath…I may have wanted to scream CANT YOU SEE WHAT HES DOING a few times. Overall, a lovely fake dating to forever quick read. Already looking forward to the next one after that teaser! Gotta love it when small kids are involved.
Not gonna lie, this one is MUCH slower than most of her other books. Not that there's anything wrong with a good slow burn. But that coupled with some of Tenleys behavior early on had me wondering if I even wanted to finish it. But luckily it all comes together nicely for the ending. Would still recommend.
I just love it how they form a frienship so easy and how just talking you can find a wonderful person. This made me so happy and I really like the way its writed so cute, simple and fun, I can feel who mia and tesley fall in love, I can´t wait for the the next one! 5 stars!
Another brilliant addition to the Mainely Books Club series! This book revolves around Mia, it's fun and easy to read. I loved Mia's side Hustle/business. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
My favourite thing about an Enemies-To-Lovers / Fake Relationship trope is when one says "She's literally the last woman on earth that I would ever fall for." Famous last words right there Mia!
I can't wait for the next in the series! I highly recommend this book and previous books in this series along with the Castleton Hearts series they are all fantastic reads!
Tenley is Mia’s gorgeous number one problem customer at her coffee shop job. But her problems get even bigger when Tenley’s boyfriend dumps her and she asks Mia to fake date her to make him jealous. Soon, Mia starts to lose her heart to the popular “straight” girl when she realizes there’s more to her than meets the eye.
Allured by Her is a funny, cute sapphic romcom with quirky and endearing characters. The chemistry between Mia and Tinley builds charmingly thanks to the attraction simmering beneath the antagonism and their growing mutual respect. As with all the books in this series, the surrounding community forms an eccentric and entertaining Greek chorus for the main romance.
If you like romcoms with hints of the fake relationship and friends-to-lovers trope, you’ll love Allured by Her.
It's been a long time since I read my favorite lesbian author.
The biggest plus for me in Chelsea's books is that you can't put her books down until you finish reading them. Her choice of words in her writing is common, but she easily manages to make the book entertaining and interesting.
What can I say about the story itself and her characters? They are sweet, beautiful and they are such a comfort. And they easily fool themselves. And pulling the cat by the tail. The book is definitely a slow burn. But the main cherry on the cake is worth our anticipation and trepidation.
There is one catch in Chelsea's books, the characters' professions and hobbies are highly repetitive. And that takes away a little bit of individuality from the heroines.
I treat these books as a reward after a long day, they are just so smooth, and it feels like everything clicks together with Chelsea Cameron's writing, like a mechanical watch, I find it satisfying and fascinating to view in all the best ways. Book #6 was no different and it takes all my willpower not to jump straight to Book #7. If you enjoy low (but not non-existent) angst, steamy sapphic romance novels, then I cannot recommend this series enough. Word to the wise though, if you haven't read the Castleton Hearts series yet, start there, that way you can appreciate the character cameos
Fake dating, rivals to lovers, and part of the series I have been loving these past few days? Of course I loved this one, as well!! I think my only major complaint, beyond it being shorter and there being more typos than the first two, is that we do not get to see much of the core friend group (Layne, Joy, and Sydney) now they have partners of their own!!
Another fake girlfriend story - but a really good one!
Annoying cafe customer (and former high school mean girl) asks the server to fake date her so she can get her boyfriend back...
Chelsea Cameron is a masterful writer. This story drew me in and got me engaged with the characters and the storyline, and kept me engaged till the end. The writing is very good, the characters feel real and are likable, and there is emotional depth. It's a winner!
Another winner in the Mainely Books Club series. This one I haven't reread the whole thing multiple times, but i have read parts of it many times. While there isn't much drama that makes me think the HEA won't work. There was a question. Anyway interesting characters along with other characters from the series.
…. I want more Mia and Tenley. Not just a recap of how their relationship is at the end of the book. I would have liked them to come together sooner. I mean we all knew it was going at happen as all these books are very predictable. I think I like that about them though. They are a fun easy read. I enjoy them so much more between my big books.
𝗧𝗶𝘁𝗹𝗲: Allured By Her 𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗿: Chelsea M Cameron 𝗥𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴: ☆☆☆☆☆ 5/5 Spice :🌶️ 🌶️
Chelsea did it again!! I’m obsessed. Whenever I’m ever in a book slump I got straight to her series and I’m never disappointed. Best sapphic romances in the world to me.
Mia and Tenley’s story was one of my favorites from the Mainely Book club series. It can be read as a stand alone but I highly recommend reading them all. It was written beautifully and I really loved the self discovery in it. The friendship between the main characters that formed so easily and made things so seamless between them. I can’t ever stop reading to put these books down. It’s always done in one sitting and love being able to see into the lives of previous characters from the series!
