Pain Loves Passion

Rate this book
Love is madness, entirely driven by sexual instinct, so the philosophers say… but for thirty-one-year-old Vincent Luther, love transgresses his limitations and transforms into divine possession as soon as he lays eyes on twenty-six-year-old Lana McKenzie, an alluring, aspiring writer… a ghost of his past.

The only problem is that he cannot remember her. As a married man and father of two, Vincent believes that he is fulfilled in his marriage and career, but his world comes crashing down when his mother, Isobel, passes away. Unable to cope with his grief, Vincent's dysfunctional relationship with his father worsens when Maxwell Luther introduces Lana as his new, young bride less than six months after Isobel's death.

Consumed with anger and resentment, Vincent judges Lana as an opportunist, gold-digger who is after Maxwell's family fortune. His secret attraction towards Lana is eclipsed by his prejudiced view of her character.

While their chemistry is undeniably intense and forbidden, their fated reunion sparks a love/hate dynamic that stretches for an entire year of emotional warfare before all secrets are exposed... and passions.

Tough to rate. This employs every trigger you could think of and reads like a YA novel with all of the drama-filled actions. 3.5 STARS

I have to give it to the author; on one hand, she writes beautifully. You can feel every bit of pain and drama-laden description that she packs into the story!

On the other hand, there is a profuse amount of said drama, anger, hate, and vitriol, along with every bad thing that can happen in life that you can add to a story. This is definitely written with the title in mind - Pain loves passion.

Hate turns to love in a flash. Steamy scenes seem twisted because of the story. Multiple wrongs don't always make a right. You are not sure who to dislike in this story because they all have terrible things going on. Vincent is a winner in my book because he is a class 1 jerk that I could not forgive!

Overall, the plot is solid and the story is well written with a presumed HEA. I simply could not get over how many things a person can endure in one story/life.

Triggers: (I have never listed before in a review but feel it is needed for this one)
Cheating
Age gap
Underage Sex
Death of loved ones
Memory loss
Miscarriage
Verbal Abuse
Cruel Treatment
Running/Hiding
Divorce

This book takes readers on a rollercoaster ride through the lives of its well-developed characters, exploring themes of love, loss, and the pursuit of one's true passion. It takes you on a wild ride through the highs and lows of human emotions and relationships. It's a real page-turner that explores love, loss, and the pursuit of our deepest passions.

What really stands out about this book is how it captures the rawness of pain and the intensity of passion. Alexia's writing is so vivid and descriptive that you can't help but feel the characters' emotions deep in your soul.

The characters in Pain Loves Passion are incredibly well-crafted and relatable. They're complex and flawed, each dealing with their own personal struggles and desires. It's easy to get invested in their stories and root for their growth and development throughout the book.

The narrative structure of the book is unconventional, with non-linear storytelling and alternating perspectives. While this adds an interesting layer to the story, it can also be a bit confusing at times, requiring readers to pay close attention to the shifts in time and point of view. Once you get the hang of it, it adds depth and richness to the narrative.

The only small downside to Pain Loves Passion is that it occasionally gets a bit slow. Some scenes and emotions are lingered on for a little too long, which can slow down the overall pace. But if you're patient and willing to immerse yourself in the characters' experiences, it's definitely worth it.

Beautifully written. Solid plot/story line. Twisted narrative that keeps you on your toes.

Pain Loves Passion captures the roller coaster of up’s and downs built into life, love, loss, and relationships (however in many circumstances the “downs” are written on a scale that makes them hard to relate to).

When I first began reading I could see generally where the story line was progressing and it made me hesitant to continue. As I kept reading on however, all my hesitations were lost. The more I learned about the characters; the more invested I became in their story.

It is easy to immerse yourself and feel the emotions of the complex (albeit significantly flawed) lives of the main characters through Alexia’s vivid writing.

The biggest drawback I faced while reading was that I felt there were too many triggers crammed into one book, making it hard to relate to the main characters. Lana for example became very hard for me to relate to, as everything that could possibly go wrong in someone’s life has gone wrong in hers. This made her seem slightly unrealistic of a character.

Overall, I truly enjoyed this read as it was wonderfully written and kept me on edge. I definitely feel it is worth giving a chance, as long as you are willing to look past the many triggers and immerse yourself within the story.

Made me cry near the end. Really interesting story that may have trigger issues for some people. The twin flame journey was really expressed well near the end. Interesting interest with most intimacy being in a dreams. I was not sure about a few acronyms. I also didn't know any music mentioned minus the Jon Secada song. The music that is expressed through feelings does feel similar to the past love I had had over 20 years ago. Glad it was a nice ending.

Erotica: some but know that it’s all a dream which is disappointing especially after reading her other series. Sure this might be a spoiler but I need the smut to happen in reality and not be cut off so quickly. But lets talk about how angsty this book was because omg the back and forth between the characters ahhhh

I received a complimentary copy of Pain Loves Passion in exchange for an honest review. I absolutely loved this book just because it was such a taboo relationship. I had no idea how Mina Alexia was going to get these characters to overcome all of the adversities which kept me reading until the very end. I would highly recommend reading this one.
