Revenge is Sweet is a stand alone, MM romance by Felice Stevens. This is the story of two men who had both been hurt by someone they trusted and they wanted revenge. Only in attempting to do so, they found something they weren’t expecting, each other.

Lyon Elliot is thirty five years old and owns an exclusive men’s club, The Lyon’s Den. Lyon is waiting for his best friend to show up for his wedding. Only he doesn’t come, because he’s eloped with Lyon’s fiance. He’s been left at the alter. This is the same best friend he’s known all his life. Lyon doesn’t let many into his inner circle but he trusted Dan. Loved him like a brother. Now all he can think about is getting revenge. And what better way to do it then to seduce Dan’s younger brother, the same brother that Dan swore Lyon off of when they were kids.

Miles Halloran is maybe about thirty two years old. He is the owner of a cute bookstore in Brooklyn, The Book Nook. Where Miles’s brother, Dan, is loud and brash, Miles has always been quiet and introverted. He likes to be surrounded by his books. Miles can’t believe what his brother did, running off with Lyon’s fiance. He has always had a bit of a crush on Lyon But Lyon never paid any attention to him. So Miles was shocked when Lyon showed up at his front door wanting to spend time with him.

“Maybe this is what happiness is.”

Both of these men had been hurt deeply by Dan’s actions. Both wanted to get back at him. But while spending time together, something else happened, they began to like each other, more than like each other. And the chemistry between them was off the charts.

“Miles made the world a little bit brighter. He was my sunrise, breaking through the darkness of my cold night.”

I was worried going into this book. I was worried that Lyon would hurt Miles. And for a minute or so at the beginning, I wasn’t sure if I was going to like Lyon. But I was wrong about everything. I adored both of these men. I loved the way they opened each other’s hearts, the way that Lyon seemed to bring out Miles bossy side, seemed to make him stronger even. And Miles got Lyon to look into himself, to want to be a better man. This was a really sweet book, and I enjoyed it so much. These two together were so much better than when they were alone. They were each other’s perfect match, their one.

There's not much more I love than a reformed rake and here Felice delivers up a modern contemporary version which is an absolute delight.

Lyon and Miles have a somewhat rocky and not at all conventional start to their romance, but they've also known each other all their lives too.

Lyon has spent his life closing himself off to the possibility of hurt of disappointment because his parents have done a number on him with their selfish and irresponsible behaviour.

Miles has grown up in the shadow of his older brother Dan, Lyon's best friend, who constantly reminds him of a horrible situation he ended up in while at college.

When Dan runs off with Lyon's fiancée, their paths intersect once more and a plan is set in motion to gain revenge and give Dan a taste of his own reprehensible behaviour.

Of course, not all goes according to plan as Miles finds out there's much more to Lyon than what he shows to the world and Lyon realises he likes the person he is when he's with Miles.

This is a lively and well-paced narrative that also had some lovely Easter Eggs that I hadn't been expecting which I won't spoil but really appreciated how they connected this story to Felice's New York universe.

The romance itself is a perfect blend between the spice and the heart-filled awakening of two people who bring out the best in each other.

Uncle Harry, Lyon's brother Scott, Miles' bookshop manager Gordon and Bar Manager Victor (who has his own bonus short story to download at the end!) are all wonderful side characters.

Dan and Lindsey, Lyon's ex, can both fall off the Brooklyn Bridge for me. Felice writes them both well without turning them into cartoon baddies but I wanted them to suffer horrible things 🤣

Felice is a kinder person than me though and they do get to deal with the consequences of their actions even if it doesn't involve falling off the bridge!

I'd love more in this new location from Felice, this book was thoroughly enjoyable.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

DNF at 3% because these quotes made me cringe so bad:

Like the boss babe she was, Lindsey proposed to me and suggested a merger in every way possible

That was strike one! But I could’ve made it past the boss babe cringe if this hadn’t followed shortly after:

I didn’t cheat on her, not because I didn’t find other people tempting or there wasn’t opportunity - God knew I had enough cleavage shoved in my face, as well as the occasional squeeze of my ass from interested men.

I hate when authors use women like this to show how attractive their characters are. I’m out.

This book grabbed me at the start and didn't let go. Family drama, a revenge plot, and an unexpected romance between two men who have known each other for most of their lives, but neither ever really knew the real person behind their façades; Lyon, the player and upscale club owner, and Miles the shy, quiet bookseller. You know the basics if you've read the blurb, but there is so much more here.

I fell in love with Miles from the start. He may be outwardly quiet and shy, but he's not going to let Lyon stomp all over her heart. I'll admit that Lyon was skating on thin ice with me at the start, but Miles wasn't having any of it. Lyon never expected Miles to challenge him and, more surprisingly to be fully on his team when it comes to the betrayal Miles's brother Dan committed and be willing to have some fun along the way.

Both men have issues that run deep and Lyon, especially, has a tough time letting people in. While there is plenty of family drama on both sides, there is relatively little angst between Miles and Lyon. They communicate surprisingly well and aside from a few bumpy moments along the way, they each make the other a better person just by being there. Their chemistry is also off the charts!

Dan (Miles' big brother and Lyon's BFF) and Lindsey are fantastic villains and I wanted to throttle them almost every time they were on the page. Uncle Harry, on the other hand, is the support system everyone should have, loving and direct.

I feel like this book was written just for me and the fact that I read through this book in two sittings leaves me with no choice but to give it the full 5 stars!

This started quite toxic and full of angst what with both friends being obnoxious. However, my heart hurt for Lyon midway and the lack of remorse in his ex-bestfriend is appalling. What I do love is Miles being smart and bold enough to take the reign to all the bullshits. I quite want Dan to hurt more for betraying Lyon and disparaging him like they were never friends but he's such a doormat to his manipulative and calculating wife that it's just sad. Like in real life, I guess some things just remains unfair and terrible people are just great with hurting others with no remorse whatsoever.

The ending is nice though. Miles is a genuine sweetheart.

Tropes: best friend's little brother, fake dating
Feels: 3.5/5
Steam*: 2/5
Kinks: none
Angst: low
Triggers/potential icks: cheating (not between MCs), betrayal, bad parents

Lyon's fiance leaves him at the altar to elope with his best friend. They've been cheating for 3 months. Lyon wasn't in love with the woman, but she seemed like a smart decision to him so he was ready to commit. When he gets dumped, Lyon decides to try to seduce Miles, his friend's younger brother who was always off limits. Miles is innocent but too smart to fall for lies. Real feelings develop between Miles and Lyon.

I liked that Miles and Lyon were mature in how they talked to each other and approached relationships and feelings. They were building a relationship that could be a forever love.

There were a bunch of things I wasn't terribly thrilled about. Lyon inner monologue'd like he was an overdramatic angsty evil Disney villain. The first 70% of the book was told in a really starchy tone. The characters were pretty one-dimensional and archetypical. And most of the sex scenes were over in a paragraph. At one point my eyes skimmed a couple words too fast and I was literally startled to read that they had just came, and I had to go back and reread the paragraph to see what the heck had happened. LOL! A lack of steam won't make me rate a book low though on its own, but that's the reason for the low steam rating. If you told me this was a 1980s book I would have believed you.

Another thing. This didn't affect my rating whatsoever because it's just about side characters being assholes. I just need to vent. Dan's betrayal of his friendship with Lyon was just appalling. He wasn't a nice guy even though he loved his brother. He snuck around with Lindsay for months. He deliberately didn't break the news to his friend until the day of the wedding where there was maximum amount of hurt and embarrassment. He deliberately didn't tell about his relationship with Lindsay because Lindsay wanted to trap Lyon into an ongoing business partnership, and she succeeded. This was not a case of falling in love with the wrong person or just being oblivious, it was a very deliberate selfish betrayal.

Notable moments:

"“I-I don’t want to talk about it.” “That doesn’t fly when you love someone. You tell them everything. I told you my deepest hurt that no one knows but Dan. It’s affected every move I’ve made since then. I gave you my trust, and now I’m asking for yours.”"

"“You’re such a dummy.” I held him tighter. “I love it when you whisper those sweet nothings to me.”"

*FYI, I rate steam based on a combination of quality & quantity. I note kink separate from steam because I don't want to underrate steamy reads that don't have much kink.

Brotherly Enemies

Lyon was about to get married, everyone waiting for the process to begin, including Lyon. Where the heck was Dan his best man, his best friend ever since kindergarten. After nearly an hour Dan still hasn’t arrived, then he calls Lyon.

“Sorry Lyon, I can’t make it, I won’t be there”.

‘I’ll wait and Lindsay is waiting down stairs,’

“No she’s not, she’s here with me and we got married yesterday in Las Vegas”.

With a friend like Dan you don’t need enemies, he’s right there, stabbing you in the back.

What a nasty bustard Dan is, as a friend and, as it turns out, a horrible brother too. He so deserves the cold hearted business woman, Lindsay who jilted Lyon.

Lyon and Dan grew up together, with both their siblings, Scott is Lyon’s younger brother and Miles is Dan’s younger brother. The older guys always looked out for their siblings.

Dan however took it to extremes and interferes too much in Miles life, even so far as forbidding him the freedom to date. Miles has always been ‘out’ as a gay man. Dan had warned Lyon (who is bi) as teenagers that Miles was out of bounds to him. Lyon abided by that, though he did find Miles kinda cute and interesting.

When Lyon calmed down after the wedding debacle his fury at Dan was boundless. He hatched a plan of revenge and he knew exactly what would hurt Dan the most.

He puts his plan into action immediately.

*************
No doubt about it Lyon and Scott has had a harsh childhood, both parents divorcing and remarrying several times over, never at home, left with Nannies.
This has affected his attitude to relationships and letting people get close to him. Parents leaves him, he feels unworthy of love.

Initially I wasn’t too fond of Lyon but he grew on me when he started to lower his guard. Dan, I’d have buried in a deep nest of deadly snakes. Miles was the shining star of this story and his adorable Uncle Harry.

It took me a while to ‘invest’ myself in this story due to disliking Dan, Lindsay and, Lyon initially. But about 20% in I started to enjoy it and I’m glad I persevered because I did enjoy watching Lyon’s plan unfold and his letting down his defences.

I’ve read several of Felice’s stories now and I’ve enjoyed them so much and would recommend her stories, which have been low to non angsty, with HEA.

I liked Miles, Lyon was ok. But Dan and Lindsay took up too much page time and didn't even suffer or get any kind of punishment for their actions. Unsatisfying read for me.

I enjoyed this book and the narration was great, although he might try to sound angry if the text says so. The strong, intelligent introvert was a nice variation on the cruel seduction theme. No sad victims here. The story was similar to Just One Night.
What I disliked was how past traumas were handled in dialog. It was unnatural, as if they were quoting a psychotherapeutic handbook. On top of that, a lot of male characters were all too eager to dissect their feelings and did not need to be prompted to start an emotional confession.

I stayed up to 3am to finish this but wow I’m disappointed.

The side characters Dan and by an extent Lindsay (but ESPECIALLY Dan) were SO disrespectful to both the mcs and yet both of them are bending over backwards to rekindle the relationship - like wtf some of the things he said about his best friend for most of his LIFE? When he himself lied and cheated behind his back. With how villainously and hateful he and Lindsay were portrayed, I was expecting to get a big retribution and/or public humiliation scene as payoff for all the pain the mcs went through but NOPE the cheaters and emotional abusers get to live off their happily ever after?!?! What.

-1/10 not satisfying and no karma was served wtf
Title should be false advertising because revenge (or the lack there-of) was not sweet at all

Loved this book! So good! Lyon, oh my, what to say about him, my heart hurt for him awhile and what he was about to do I did not like, but things changed and all was good. Then I loved him. Miles, what a sweetheart, I loved him right away and my heart hurt for him as well in a different way. When he was with Lyon, I was glad he spoke up and said what was on his mind and asked Lyon what they were doing, so proud of him. He was good for Lyon and they are a wonderful couple together. The ending, Gah..Loved it!! A wonderful story! SPOILER————but I hate cheaters, so I disliked Dan and Lindsay right away, still do… A Must Recommended Read!!

Though I loved this book and adored Lyon and Miles. Let me take a deep breath and stop myself to wanted dive into the book and give two certain people pieces of my mind. Grrrr!
Well, they deserved each other for sure. NOT Lyon and Miles. That two people.
Though Lyon and Miles had to thank them, too, lol.
Because Lyon and Miles deserved each other as well, they deserved happiness.
It's a heartfelt story Felice wrote here, but sweet, nonetheless. Especially with Uncle Harry as the sweet addition to the mix.

This Revenge is Definitely Sweet

I absolutely loved this story. This may be my most favorite Felice Stevens story yet. This may start out as a hastily thought out revenge plot thought up by someone only thinking of themselves but it ends up being a great love story of two people who deserve all the happiness they bring each other. It is absolutely worth reading the story in between.

I received an ARC and this is my unbiased opinion

I liked Uncle Harry

Rating: 2.75🌈

It’s not a good thing when you finish a book and instead of feeling happy, you’re dissatisfied, and slightly ill at the outcome. That how it was at Revenge is Sweet by Felice Stevens .

I hadn’t read anything by her in a while so her style of writing didn’t immediately come to mind. But my issues with this story are plentiful.

The plot is already one that has numerous toxic elements to make one wonder. It’s a revenge plot that’s even worse the deeper into the storyline you go.

The MC, Lyon Elliot, finds out on his wedding day that he’s been left at the altar, as his bride (and new business partner) has eloped with his best friend and best man, Dan, making the betrayal even more devastating .

Immediately he decides to hurt his formerly best friend by dating Dan’s younger vulnerable brother , Miles. Miles, who has a crush on Lyon, would be a easy target. Lyon would get Miles involved with him emotionally, then cruelly dump him to hurt Dan. That “Miles the Mouse” would be collateral damage isn’t much of a concern here.

Stevens then has to work to demonstrate that cold, withdrawn Lyon isn’t the toxic character she’s portraying him to be by backtracking on that scenario a bit and making it a joint venture by Lyon and Miles when the author brings both Dan, the best friend/brother and Lyndsey , the newly married wife/ex fiancée firmly into view.

This couple shines with self absorption, a lack of understanding how their actions affects others, and a inability to care if they did. Toxic and narcissistic, and in Dan’s case, controlling and a bit stupid. And we spend too much time with them here listening to their specious opinions and arguments as to why no one should be upset or continue to be angry over the way they’ve handled the situation. It’s chapters of these individuals.

Honestly, I have no patience for people like this in real life and less in my books. Not impressed with Stevens creation of Lyon either.

For Stevens to have her main characters either choose to give in to the behaviors of those personalities or constantly not deal with them in an adult manner is highly frustrating to read. Grown people physically fighting, not being able to choose between the other methods we know just because it’s adding to the drama doesn’t make this a emotionally satisfying story for me.

Miles traumatic back history and awful dating life that lead to his overbearing brother’s control is understandable. So is Lyon’s history of loss and parental neglect and abandonment. But what they do with that throughout their storylines varies from something that feels adult and thoughtful to a wildly one dimensional approach.

In the end, after Miles has decided to choose himself and a future he wants with Lyon over a controlling brother with jealousy issues and a self-involved wife, Lyon makes a decision to get Dan reinstated into Miles life without asking.

It’s negates all the hard work Miles did , and frankly, Dan feels insincere in the scenes that follow. It’s as though he’s giving mouth service to everything Lyon wants. The ending didn’t ring true.

I was left feeling uncomfortable with the conclusion, the storylines came across as unbelievable and ill suited to the characters as framed out by the author.

I liked Uncle Harry though. He was my favorite of the group.

So read it if you’re a fan of Felice Stevens or a collector of the fake boyfriend trope . But for the rest, I’ll not be leaving you any further recommendations.

Great story!

I really enjoyed this story. I liked the history between Miles and Lyon and Dan. It was a crazy situation to start the book, but it made for a very entertaining story. These two guys had a lot of their own issues, not to mention the tension between Dan and Lyon. I can't imagine ever going through something like that. I really enjoyed how it all played out.

From start to finish, Felice Stevens makes a story that could’ve been derivative into something really special. Loved all the characters, they showed depth and vulnerability that made them even more believable. If this goes to audiobook I will buy it again. It made me smile and get teary in all the right places. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!

Oh Wow!! Felice never stops to amaze me! She is a Star ⭐. Like How can someone write every single book so perfectly!? And make the characters so lovable?!
I wasn't sure if I'm gonna love this book or not I especially have doubts regarding Lyon but my oh my in classic Felice Stevens manner she made me fall in love with Lyon more and more with each chapter. I was hooked from the very first time Lyon set his eyes on Miles, and butterflies fly in my belly 🤭. I Love Lyon and Miles together they were so perfectly fit like a puzzle piece 🥰. They were actually made for each other.
Felice Stevens's this book made me believe that fate has everything planned for you in the right time and right moment in her own twisted way she will present you, your forever person. That's exactly what happened with Lyon and Miles. Maybe their relationship has started as revenge on Dan, but from the very start their relationship was anything other than revenge plan.
I've loved the little glimpse/Cameo of my other favourite Felice Stevens mens 🥰🤭.
And I also Love the Victor surprise ❤️.
Looking forward to more book from the Author.

I started reading this moving love story last evening and ever since my emotions have been all over the place!
Word of advice.... don't start this book in the evening because it makes for a super short night!
Revenge is Sweet is all about revenge until it isn't anymore.
Lyon and Miles are so darn perfect together and love just keeps on growing with each turn of the page! Pretty sure it could have been another 200 pages and I would have been happy! As it is, I will be doing a reread probably tomorrow after my nerves settle.
Now let us not forget the jackass, aka Dan! He is Miles older brother and lifelong best friend to Lyon! Well, was best friend until he ran off with Lyon's fiancé! Yep. Wait till you get your grabby paws on this emotional roller-coaster then tell me I am wrong!

I liked it, to the point that I kept reading it until I finished. The plot was great. Miles and Lyon were great too. Together, they just suited each other.

What I wished this book had though was:-
1. A slightly better editing keeping in mind that it was a first person narration. To me, sometimes, both Miles and Lyon's p.o.v. felt like a single person thinking those thoughts.

2. A better outcome with Dan and Lindsey. The book didn't seem finished without a conclusion to those two falling flat. I honestly just felt frustrated with how they acted. Their scene with Uncle Harry could have been stronger.

3. Point 2 but with Lyon's parents. There could have been a better over and done with conclusion.

Rest, I really enjoyed.

No NoDid not like the ending AT ALL!!!!!

Ok….I wanted the happily ever after for Lyon and Miles, but not for Dan and that female dog! Dan should have gotten his just rewards too, by what he did to Lyon his brother, new ending please. No sweet revenge here, I wanted that dog Lindsey to get her too even if it was through that baby because Karma, you don’t treat people like that and think everything will be rosy in your life! Lyon s mom and dad should have gotten theirs too, not the ending I was hoping for too many loose strings hanging, and I normally enjoy books from this author but not this one,!

Wow, this was so good. Felice’s characters always have so much depth and it’s a pleasure to see them get their well-earned HEA. Without giving much away, wasn’t sure of the direction the story was going in the beginning, with Lyon taking control but once Miles was on the same page, it was much more enjoyable. I felt for both Lyon and Miles throughout having to put up with Dan especially, but they weathered the storm and I loved seeing the better side of Lyon more and more towards the end. I can’t not mention Uncle Harry too, a delightful addition whenever he showed up.

Both Miles and Lyon's back story was brutal, and it wrung my heart. Lyon started what was a game and a tit for tat , but it ended up being so much more. The journey and self discovery were hard fought, but the rewards were a lifetime of love and happiness. The convo Harry and Scott had with Lyon- omg! It struck something inside my heart. Lindsey's ulterior motives were cold and calculating. Unbelievable!!! I didn't want this to end. I loved Lyon and Miles and was invested in their journey. A must read!

Wow. Felice's books just keep getting better and better. What started out as a plan for revenge turned into the sweetest love story. Lyon & Miles are so incredible together and we're exactly what they each needed. This was one of the rare times that I wanted a book to be even longer so I could get more of the MCs. Had potential

First time reading this author and the plot had potential but the story felt superficial and fake I couldn’t connect with any character. The dialogue wasn’t great either and some things just didn’t make any sense like a library in a gentleman club / den.
