While good, I was not expecting a book about strategic content design to be exclusively a book about research and testing content with users. While content testing is important, I was thinking there would be more topics covered in the book.
And, at times, it felt like some of the research methods weren't covered in enough detail to be useful.
Our content team read this for content book club and it lead to a lot of good discussions and conversations. But, overall, it was a hard book for us all to get through (I'm the only one who finished it).
Despite that, we took away a few key things and ideas that we are hoping to implement for our content team!

If content design and user experience research had a baby, it would be Strategic Content Design. I've worked in healthtech for almost 20 years now. Not only is UX research neglected in many companies as a whole, it's particularly overlooked when it comes to designing compelling, effective content. With Jorgenson's book, no more.

This book is a practical guide to actually planning, conducting, and disseminating content research in order to improve user experience. It's 278 pages (not including the index) of usable tactics and tips that cover the nuts and bolts of how to do content analysis, how to evaluate content, and how to win over stakeholders who may not be ready to change. I'll be referencing this book frequently!

Not the read I was expecting based on the title. The vast majority of the book is ultimately about running content research. I would have expected significantly more content about content design and leading content design(ers). I felt many parts were superficial as other reviewers.

As a UX leader with a focus on interaction design, user research and conversion rate optimization, I didn't have too many takeaways unfortunately. I would still recommend this book to writers who don't know much about UX and may be anxious about the idea of running research for their content. Also for those who have mostly worked in a functional content team and are looking to collaborate more with other functions (like PM, design, ...).
