Two PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED Regency novellas

A Kiss by the Sea

He’s not really a blacksmith, and she’s not really an heiress…

Thaddeus Pennrith finds a way to recover from multiple griefs when he accepts the blacksmith’s post at Fenwick on Sea. Village life gives him a sense of belonging that Polite Society never could, though he must resume his aristocratic duties soon. Along comes Lady Sarah Weatherby, refugee from an engagement gone badly awry, and Thaddeus is faced with both a compelling reason to reveal his titled antecedents, and a longing to keep them forever hidden….

This story originally appeared in the Bluestocking Belles’ anthology, Storm and Shelter, where you will find more tales of romance by the seaside!

When His Grace Falls

The very proper Duke of Emory, lampooned in the popular satire How to Ruin A Duke, suspects that the author of his misfortune is Lady Edith Charbonneau. He sets out to ruin her before she can write a sequel, except… what if he’s wrong, and she’s not his enemy after all? Edith, formerly companion to His Grace’s difficult mother, has plenty of reasons for her dim view of the duke’s household, but the man himself has never been one of them. Will they learn to trust another, or embark on a war of words, wit, and wanton kisses?

This novella originally appeared in the novella duet, How to Ruin a Duke.

Grace Burrowes started writing as an antidote to empty nest and soon found it an antidote to life in general. She is the sixth out of seven children, raised in the rural surrounds of central Pennsylvania. Early in life she spent a lot of time reading romance novels and practicing the piano. Her first career was as a technical writer and editor in the Washington, DC, area, a busy job that nonetheless left enough time to read a lot of romance novels.

It also left enough time to grab a law degree through an evening program, produce Beloved Offspring (only one, but she is a lion), and eventually move to the lovely Maryland countryside.

While reading yet still more romance novels, Grace opened her own law practice, acquired a master's degree in Conflict Transformation (she had a teenage daughter by then) and started thinking about writing.... romance novels. This aim was realized when Beloved Offspring struck out into the Big World a few years ago. ("Mom, why doesn't anybody tell you being a grown-up is hard?")

Grace eventually got up the courage to start pitching her manuscripts to agents and editors. The query letter that resulted in "the call" started out: "I am the buffoon in the bar at the RWA retreat who could not keep her heroines straight, could not look you in the eye, and could not stop blushing--and if that doesn't narrow down the possibilities, your job is even harder than I thought." (The dear lady bought the book anyway.)

Love, love, LOVE ALL of Grace Burrowes' books!!!

The two satisfying romantic novellas in this book are gems. The historical world-building is excellent-realistic, detailed, nuanced, and historically accurate. I learn more about some aspect of life in Britain during that period every time I read one of her stories. This is refreshing and enjoyable. The ton was not the valuable, bright epitome of the society they believed themselves to be.
The characters are all true-to-life. All types of people from various locations and social-economic classes bring the reader into the recognizably human world of the story. They charm us, annoy us, worry us, disgust us, intrigue us, etc. and make us care about them (or not) with the delightful realism of their temperaments, words, observations, and actions. Each story is heart-warming and soul-satisfying. The relationships among families, between employers and employees, between the two main characters (MFC and MMC) people, among and between the social classes, between people of all ages, occupations and roles, are living, breathing realities. They are deftly developed with details, facts, humor, and insight. I love, love, love all this.
The language used by the characters is genuinely that of the times and the character speaking—in sentence structure, word choice, diction, pronunciation, and terminology.
Take a chance on this book. You'll enjoy it far more than you might expect.

A true delight. Two stories (from previous anthologies with other authors) Ms. Burrowes put together in this republished regency duet. "A Kiss by the Sea" and "When His Grace Falls" completely entertained as Ms. Burrowes well-acknowledged dialogues, character depictions, and plot treatments again charmed me with people I liked came together to discover love. So very fine.
