Ulala: The Journey of Discovery

Siya Khoza is a 23-year-old police officer based in Durban. He is deployed to the Mgabaye village to investigate mystery murders rumoured to be committed by a ghost. Being of Venda descent makes it difficult for him to engage the community at first, but through the help of some friendly villagers, he gets the information he needs for the case. He expected the voodoo he finds at the village, but the discovery he makes about himself takes him by surprise. He finds love, a family and a sense of belonging - something he didn't have growing up as an orphan.

The Journey of Discovery follows this young man as he discovers himself amidst the horror surrounding him. He finds himself and learns to put fear aside and embrace any challenge thrown his way. Identity is one of the leading themes of the book, alongside magic realism, traditional healing, and dark humour. It is a light read that aims to entertain as well as educate.
