Charlie Rhodes has seen it all. Witches. Ghosts. The Chupacabra. Now she’s about to head down a different road … and it’s one she’s not prepared for. When three bodies show up drained of fluids in Roswell, New Mexico, the Legacy Foundation is sent out to investigate. The assumption, because of where it happened, is aliens. Charlie isn’t so sure, though. As the team leader, Chris is gung-ho to chase visitors from another planet. That means camping out at Bottomless Lakes Park, something nobody but Chris is keen to do. Between alien enthusiasts whooping it up at the far end of the park and Charlie’s belief that she’s being haunted by a ghost, the group has their hands full. Roswell is a weird place. It’s also the sort of place where secrets can be hidden for a very long time. The caves beneath Bottomless Lakes run deep. There just might be a different sort of monster hiding there, however. Charlie knows she has a big fight in front of her. This trip will help her get ready … as long as she survives the darkness that’s threatening to take over the area. Charlie’s past ghosts are about to collide with her future dreams. The collision promises to be out of this world.
When I was a kid, I was torn between whether or not I was going to grow up and be the Incredible Hulk or Wonder Woman. I flirted with being a Jedi Knight for awhile, but I wasn't up for the intense travel associated with the gig. In my teens, I settled on being a writer -- although I had no idea the effort that would entail. Not only am I a writer now, but I'm a writer in several different mediums. I'm a longtime newspaper reporter, an avid reader and a voracious science fiction fanatic.
The back.and.forty between Chris.and.Jack in this instalment is hilarious, Roswell, New Mexico, Aliens what s not to love ? For.Chris (the head of the Legacy Foundation) it's a dream come true, for Jack it's a step too far.......bigfoot, the chupacabra, vampires and zombies are just a sample of what he's had to.face since Charlie joined the group but aliens No in fact, Hell No. But aliens are what they are investigating, three bodies have been found and they died in an unexplainable way. Worse than the.investigation is the fact that the group is camping at the site where the bodies were found............after all everyone knows aliens only show up.at night.................right............
So frustrating. I was thrilled when the snarky woman left. (Not naming names so someone doesn’t get a spoiler.) her return was just grating.
I don’t generally skip over half dozen chapters in Amanda Lee’s books, but this smelled bad. It’s the same repetitive behavior that gets old fast. Story is a good one, but the repeated rudeness from this character makes me rethink continuing the series when the next one comes out.
this is an extraordinarily entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series
This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. Great cast of characters and an entertaining storyline. Charlie Rhodes is a magical person with a great many different aspects and abilities. She’s becoming more powerful day by day as she leads up to her battle with Sybil the evil witch. This time Charlie and the legacy foundation are off to Roswell in search of aliens. Reading and see where this adventure leads them. Always entertaining always action packed in a most definitely fun read. Check it out
Charlie has gotten quite annoying and whiny. She wants to argue that she's powerful and can protect herself, yet doesn't want to do the work. She never wants to use her magic and practice (thank god Harley finally forced her too). Yet, she also wants all the answers just given to her.
I love Harley, but I don't understand the pedestal Charlie has placed her on. Charlie has a strange obsession with her. It's more than a best friendship because she's so focused on how Harley "sacrificed" herself. And Harley even said that wasn't a sacrifice, nor was it purely selfless.
I saw some reviews hating on Jack, but how about how Charlie treats him? She's always giving him a hard time, yet gets all pissy when he gives her the same energy. He has to treat her with kid gloves because she gets whiny. She's become spoiled and entitled. Honestly, if she behaved like this from the beginning, I think we all would've hated Laura less because her dislike wouldn't have been unfounded.
I miss how Millie used to be. I miss her and Charlie getting into mischief.
All that being said, I do still enjoy the books. They're cozy and quick reads. Not too heavy. I'm looking forward to seeing all Charlie can do and to her banding together with her magical friends!
this just didn’t work for me. Jack being overprotective and snappy, Charlie dithering, Chris on a one-track mission to uncover the supernatural, even Charlie’s dad being a pain… these tropes only hold out for so long until I find them tedious or frustrating. I think I’ve hit that wall in this book (although it’s been bugging me for a while now). However, if you still really like the characters, and their quirks haven’t annoyed the crud out of you, then this was a pretty good mystery. An old favourite pops up, and someone else I would rather have stayed gone makes an appearance. I will pick up the next book as there was talk about teaming up with a few of the magic users from other series, so I’m jazzed for that.
Chris finally has his aliens to research and hunt but what will he do when they overpower him? Hannah needs to be kept safe in her condition so Jack, Millie, and Charlie are finally able to make Chris understand there is a real threat out there. Camping in Roswell isn't what they hoped it would be but the battle has to start somewhere. Great paranormal story with a few surprises and some enlightenment. The love sick stuff gets a little smarmy sometimes. How many times do you have to tell someone you'd die for them in a day or three? Charlie is going have to figure out what to do with her magic and Jack is going to have to let her. Finally.
Maybe it’s Just me, but I wish the author would develop the characters maturity a bit. Charlie’s super concern with money has gotten old and she really needs to give the parents a break. If I was being hunted by a witch that wanted to take me over I would be practicing my craft daily and not whining about not knowing what to do. As with the witches of the Midwest, the obsession with bacon is ridiculous, but again only by simple opinion. I do enjoy how the different series are seen to be heading towards a massive conclusion which might be fun.
Charlie starts to come into her own here with Harleys help, love that crossroads demon, she’s hilarious. This series started off slowly, wasn’t sure I liked it but book by book it’s become a firm favourite. The characters get better with each book and now feel like old friends. As Charlie gathers allies in readiness for the looming battle with Sybil the paranormal world is starting to take notice. So looking forward to the next book and the secrets yet to uncovered.
If you want to have a close encounter of the alien kind, Roswell New Mexico is the happening place! Unless it’s something else entirely. That’s what Charlie and company are there to find out. There are a couple of twists here that I did Not see coming, and a couple of reveals I wasn’t expecting. Congratulations to the author on great timing there! This is a fun series with quirky characters, and excellent storytelling. I highly recommend this series, as well as everything this author has written!
Like I’ve said in the other reviews of this series, Charlie and Jack have a codependent and abusive relationship. Jack frequently alienates Charlie from others “for her own good.”
Their displays of affection while at work are icky. Sitting on Jack’s lap in a camp chair while eating dinner around a fire with their coworkers is bizarre.
Jack telling Charlie she’s going to have an alcoholic drink no matter what is alarmingly controlling behavior.
I’m in too far to abandon the series, and I want to see what happens.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
We got some big reveals in this book. Enjoyed it from first page to last. Really looking forward to the next book. I don't want to give spoilers, but the authors summary covers basics. Mostly told from Charlie's POV, but we do get just a little from Sybil. Each book can be standalone but would be much better f read in order.
Off to Roswell they go to solve the mystery of mummified corpses. Chris thinks it is aliens, but the rest of the group is doubtful. This will be the biggest challenge for Charlie so far.
Do you like the thought of an adult Scooby Do series?
I love this series. It is a fast paced fun novel. I like the characters and the plot. Amanda Lee writes an entertaining story that always makes me feel good. This is a light read of good vs evil. I can't wait for the next book..Let the battle begin.
Another great installment in this series. This is definitely moving to a head in the fight with Sybil and it seems there’s still more to do before the ultimate showdown. Now things are progressing much more quickly and the next books appear to be ready to showcase Charlie in a new, more powerful way.
Ok that was rhetorical! Charlie is preparing for a fight and she needs all the help ahe can get. She gets to kind of do her normal job, the foundation is sent to Roswell, New Mexico to investigate body that were drained completely out. Chris finds out the truth about Charlie and I thought we didn't have to deal with Laura, I was so wrong. Can't wait for the next book.💙💚
I love this book and I love Ms. Lee’s sense of humor!! I’m so glad Chris finally learned the truth. Her stories flow easily and keep you entertained. I never felt like there was a lull in the story or a lot of unnecessary filler. She is a very gifted and creative author. You won't be sorry to buy this book.
The Legacy team is headed to Roswell where three desicated bodies have been found. The obvious answer is aliens but something else is behind the bodies and there are many more to be discovered. Charlie has to use her magic as a weapon to defend them and the confrontation with Sybil is closing in quickly.
I luv this series l have read books 1-13 can’t wait for the next instalment. Charlie and Jacks story is so exciting and entertaining. Charlie’s birth parents and brother are funny. I get a kick out of Chris his excitement for the paranormal is infectious But I do luv Millie. I hope everyone who reads this series enjoys and luv them as much as I do.
I love Charlie. I think she is one of my favorite heroines from this author, and to see her grow through this series has been incredible. But waiting for the next book is almost painful... I've binged my way through, and don't want to leave this fictional family just yet
I enjoy reading the authors stories but I would like some more ethnically diverse main characters in all of the series. The storyline with Charlie is getting more exciting and I enjoy the way characters from other stories are entwined. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
This was a really good addition to the series with some long awaited things occurring. (No spoilers.) I just am not a fan of Laura although the following quote from her was my favorite from the book:
“I could take or leave you all,” Laura chimed in. “I’m going to stick close to Jack, though, so I can scoop him up when you die.”
Charlie is becoming stronger and learning to get help. The plot and subplots move quickly. This book is a turning point and definitely not to be missed. I can't wait for the next book!!!
Loved this, couldn't put it down. Housework went out of the window, can't wait for the next instalment and see what happens to Charlie and the team in New Orleans.
Dude...her??!!! Nooo!! Lost a star for this plotline. Ruined the Harley\kasey dynamic. Why? Ugh I hate her. She has no redeeming qualities. Feed her to a shark demon already.
Oh my goodness I loved this book and series. I am sad that I think we are coming to the end. I am ready for the big show down and Charlie schools Sybil. You need to read this series. Jack and Charlie balance each other. Loved it
Out to Roswell New Mexico to deal with Aliens? More than that, desiccated bodys in a cave. Chris is becoming more and more adamant about aliens. What's with the Lauren look a like?
Charlie and Jack have a long road ahead. Will Chris be able to keep his mouth shut. The alien demons are gone will more come. Charlie is going to have to claim her magic to win. Great book and great series.
Just WOW! Didn’t see that ending coming! One of my favorite in this series! Love Harley but could do without the other one which will remain nameless for people that didn’t read it yet! Amanda Lee you are amazing
It was great to get back with Charlie and the gang. I like the interaction between all the main characters and all the shenanigans they get into. I think Kevin Laura back is gonna be a lot of fun. In a bad way. Lol
