Hali Waverly thought she’d seen the worst the world had to offer. Then her boyfriend Gray Hunter’s parents arrived on her beach. Now the horror truly begins. Hali has a big problem…and that’s not including the skeletons that are taking over the beach thanks to an errant spell. Nobody knows who cast the spell, or more importantly why, but Hali is determined to find out. When she’s not dodging visits from the people Gray wants to see least in his life that is. Hali is a fixer, which means she can’t stay out of the situation. Will she make matters better or worse, though? Gray knows exactly how he sees his future going. His parents aren’t part of it. Despite that, part of him doesn’t want to shut the door forever. If he lets them in, though, will he lose everything he’s been working toward? Gray and Hali are a team. Dark forces are moving in on them from every direction, however. It’s going to take both of them working together to come out on the other side. Even then, it might not be enough. Death is coming for St. Pete Beach, and it’s not taking any prisoners.
Hali is working at her tiki bar one afternoon when skeletons begin rising from the surf, something or someone is calling them from the ocean. Grey is with her and they rush down to the beach and begin fighting the skeletons. The sirens turn up and manage to lure the skeletons back out into the ocean resolving the situation. The couple have no idea what has caused the dead in the ocean to rise up and make their way onto land and especially just at their beach. With nothing to go on and no suspects they can only hope it's a one off ,................. Until next day that is when it happens again.........
The fifth Hali Waverley book introduces us to Gray's parents, who have been bubbling under for several volumes now. This one starts with a wave of skeletons invading the beach. Hali and her friends beat them back, but then a search begins for the supernatural creature who was able to summon them, and then her (sort of) in-laws show up. They start off as the sort of entitled rich boomers you want to shove off a cliff, but it seems that they really want reconciliation with their son (or, at least, his dad does). Seeing that relationship move from outright denial to tentative hope was lovely to watch.
The merrow are still around but still as a threat for the future, and, in fact, are slightly helpful here. Hali and Gray are engaging protagonists and they try very hard to be honest with themselves and each other. It's nice to see as a pretty healthy example of a relationship, although I'm still not liking the way the author(?)/ characters(?) are angling to get Carrie and Rusty together.
This book moved at a fair pace and if the ending was a bit of a damp squib, it was deliberate (the characters even comment on it). I'm enjoying the series and if I still have Kindle Unlimited when the next one comes out, I'll read it.
This is an entertaining paranormal cozy mystery series. A fun cast of characters in an entertaining storyline. Holly is a witch who lives in St. Petersburg Florida. She owns a tiki bar on the property of a resort on by a rich man who hit her with a golf cart and injured her hip. To compensate her he gave her the tiki bar on his property and a villa on his property as well to to live in. he is a pain in the butt but it gave her her own business and home. She visits her family once a week for breakfast and she has a boyfriend a shifter who has a private eye. Together they spend a lot of time at the beach and working on cases together. They also tackle any paranormal issues going on in their small community with the help of a few friends. Once again something is up and Holly and Gray must figure out what it is and see if they can stop it. Lots of twists and turns in this particular story. So we shall see what happens have fun and read on.
It's good to have a story where everything isn't connected. I liked hearing about Pascal though. I was glad to see more about Wayne. I think he could be more than poor comic relief. I'd also like to see more of the coven and her grandmother. I wonder about pack politics, we always hear they're so awful, but are given few details. Grey and Eric are against pack, but one could imagine that not all are run by corrupt misogynistic jerks. Will we ever see a pack where the masculinity is not toxic?
Hali and Gray face more battles on the beach, all our usual characters make an appearance. The occurrences that happen here defy belief, love this escaped, reminds me of ancient horror film. We get the added issues of Grays parents starring in this book. Love the intriguing plot twist at the end of the story, be interesting to see this -lay out on the next book. A crazy, hilarious wild ride as usual, loved it.
We start with skeletons coming out of the water and then Gray's parents get added to the mix. The villain is another new Paranormal species, and the confrontation is a little bland. Nice to see the sirens more involved and liked the Pascal connection. Is there a possible series crossover coming? The merrow are still lurking in the background and offer information assist in this one but all is not how it seems.
I was surprised by the ending. No I'm not going to say what it was. I want to speed up Hali's operation. At this point in all the books the storyline is getting boring. We know she should have it so what's the delay? Sorry to hear Wayne is going to have a binge day or two. I'm betting on Hali and Wayne to save each other with Gray, Rusty and Harlan The mother is a lost cause. She's turned to the dark side. I'm committed to the series.
The underlying plot is definitely coming into view and it has a very surprising participant. Even with new challenges, it seems that Gray and Hali are moving towards long lasting happiness. That’s something I really like about Lily Harper Hart books. I love happy endings
Hali and Gray are such a great couple. Gray deserves all the things, hate how his parents did him early on. The ending little twist will be interesting to see how that goes. Looking forward to more books in series. I don't want to give spoilers. Definitely recommend. Told mostly fro! Hali's POV.
Hali and Gray are on the beach again when an overwhelming amount of animated skeletons come out of the sea to attack people. Where did they come from and who sent them? For the answer to these and other questions I recommend you buy this book and read it as soon as you can.
Uh oh! Hali unexpectedly meets Gray's parents and, of course, it's not smooth sailing. As if that's not bad enough, skeletons are attacking beachgoers and Hali's hip is giving her more problems than usual. But the ending - holy cow! I did not see that coming and am desperate to read the next book now.
Gray's brother Rusty helped their parents find Gray and his girlfriend at her tiki bar in St. Pete. When they showed up Hali and Gray had just fought off an army of skeletons that came out of the Gulf. Who sent the skeletons, why, and how will Hali keep the beach safe and still keep her job and her new love?
I love this book and I love Ms. Hart's sense of humor!! Her stories flow easily and keep you entertained. I never felt like there was a lull in the story or a lot of unnecessary filler. She is a very gifted and creative author. You won't be sorry to buy this book.
I enjoy this lighthearted series but this one was different. No big final scene but it did have a twist. I've read many series from Hart and I don't recall a time where it's almost a 'to be continued' twist. I look forward to the next book! I enjoy the characters in this series but sometimes Hali seemed to be a weakling! That's my only complaint.
Hali and Gray are even more established as a couple and work together on weird going’s on in their beloved St.Pete Beach, from a skeleton invasion to Sirens, Shifters, and interfering parents.
Having been a St. Pete Beach resident for 18 years, it has been super fun to recognize many of my favorite haunts on the beach. You will like it too!
The audacity of his parents showing up and trying to force his hand to go back into pack mentality was the wrong thing to do. I am glad his father had the nerve to help when needed seeing that his son was truly in love with his love.
He draws the strangest women to him. Sometimes when you get involved in others lives you truly see what you didn't have verse what you did.
Another problem or two for Hali and Gray. Try a drunken flamingo, a brother obsessed with computer games and meeting the future In-laws. Takes,a while but finally most of the problems are sorted, but a strange ending has the reader deciding to get,the next book (myself included of course) Highly recommended series!
I have read 5 books in this series in a row. Although each book is a complete story, there is always a carryover. It is like reading a soap opera. You HAVE to read the next book to see what is going to happen. If you like fantasy, you will truly enjoy this series.
This book in the series of a witch on the rocks was a fun story. I'm really enjoyed the interactions with the 2 main characters in the story. I like how their relationship has progressed. Now if we can just keep the Flamingo Sober!
Love this series. Love the characters except Helene. I feel I am right there with them during conversations, working or the action. This book was funny and had an ending that leaves me begging to read the next book soon. Fun series.
I really like this series. The characters are darn good and the storyline has surprises that are totally unexpected. The author has such great series going.
Lily Harper Hart is one of my favorite authors! Rates right up there with Amanda M. Lee when it comes to having relatable characters and surprise endings without throwing things out of whack!
I loved the devotion that they have. The ending just wants you to not so patiently wait for the next book. Let's hope the next book comes soon to see what the monster mother has planned.!
Hali and Gray solve another case. Gray's parents show up. We learn more about Gray's relationship with them. It's going to be difficult to wait for the next book to come out.
The interactions between Gray, Hali and the rest of the crew continue to be interesting and I am excited to see where it goes. The twist at the end was unexpected. Really enjoying this series and interactions between the locations and leading characters.
The characters are predictable for a cozy, of course, but the book remains enjoyable. I like the heroine having real world physical limitations and dealing with them on a day-to-day basis. I can't wait for the next in the series.
It was a read like a middle child, easy, predictable but still had some key points. For as smart as the two main characters come of as being they sure are not seeing the bigger picture.
Just a quick few words to say how much I enjoyed this story. Lily definitely has a wonderful gift to come up with all the characters and adventures she writes. Enough said, downloading the next one.
We continue to see the developing love and magic between Halo and Grey, even Wayne is more developed. The last bit was a shock for sure! Can't wait to read how that works out!
