Zero Field Theory: Pandora

Rate this book
The Zero Field Theory was written 38 years ago by a brilliant Russian quantum physicist who emigrated from the Soviet Union to America. This mind-bending theory predicted instantaneous communications using quantum entanglement. A Chinese emigrant saw the business opportunity and has invested in developing quantum technologies over the years. After many failures, the technology is now ready, but one key ingredient still needs to be added - mathematical algorithms to decode the quantum signals.

A child prodigy, who lost her parents in a horrible car accident, has the advanced mathematical skills needed. A secret deal is made to get her working on the problem. While the American military and politicians are eager to buy this technology, the top-secret information is leaked to a Russian military leader who wants to gain the upper hand and own a monopoly in 100% secure instant communications.

The data from the first experiment sending coherent quantum communications between two military satellites have some unexpected properties, and the young mathematician can decode messages from the 11-dimensional quantum noise. However, these messages are not from Earth. The quantum signals from space stop suddenly. The quantum physicist who is lying to cover his failed promises is fired.

The political tensions between Russians and Americans are approaching a breaking point as Russia prepares for war. The American President is desperate to gain political support and offers the Chinese businessman a lifetime deal. Meanwhile, the fired quantum physicist moved to Moscow and successfully replicated the satellite experiment. In a secret lab, the American team continues decoding the signals. The first contact with aliens is made, but the outcome is totally unexpected.

As Russia starts the special military operation, a new global threat appears. The Sun suddenly disappears, and the population begins to panic. The aliens send a warning - Earth has only three days to stop sending quantum interference to avoid a disaster. Can Americans and Russians agree in time to save the planet?

This relentless, page-turning tale challenges your thinking about how the first contact with extraterrestrials could happen.

Absolutely world class!

Mauri Niininen's new book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys sci-fi. It is like nothing else in the field. A strong plot and solid characters, built around a deep knowledge of the physics and theory, as well as the global ramifications of new discoveries, make it read like a mix between Arthur C Clarke and Tom Clancy. Do not get discouraged with it's length, it feels like having read a 400 pager, that's how much the author manages to pack into it.
