"Legends" is the story of Elgiva and Douglas.
Firstly, WOW. This was one of the best books I've ever read.
Secondly, now let's get to the plot.
Douglas Kincaid is a ruthless billionaire, with a perchance for blonde bimbos and success. Utterly bored with his life, he takes over lands and trademarks everything with his name, looking for some satisfaction and priding in ownership.
Things take a turn when a tall "blonde" wearing a green dress gatecrashes his party, and he sets out to pursue her, only to be drugged and kidnapped by her and her lackeys.
Waking up in a makeshift cell, he realizes that he is in a deserted cottage in the Scottish lands he had recently vied to takeover, and soon comes to know more about his beautiful yet kind captor Elgiva MacRoth.
Eager to escape, Douglas uses all methods from threats to seduction, but his lovely redhead captor just laughs and feeds him delicious meals. Soon he realizes that she is not after his money, but wants to make him realize his "heritage", which he thinks is hogwash.
As his faithful dog Sam was retrieved too during the capture, the three of them begin a kind camaraderie- only to realize various secrets, including a secret diary, Elgiva's profession, and her past with her now dead husband.
When one day, after a war of words, Elgiva mysteriously disappears, Douglas manages to escape with the help of Sam, finding and rescuing a trapped Elgiva. They engage in magical lovemaking, only to be soon confronted with the village full of kidnappers, and later Douglas's rescuers.
Soon the kidnapper turns the captive as Douglas whisks Elgiva away to his rich and lavish life, vowing to teach her a lesson. But both their feelings have changed, and soon Douglas realizes that Elgiva would rather have his heart, than all the money and comforts he could afford. As Elgiva learns more about Douglas and his motivation, she vows to unravel his heart. But with so much left unsaid, can they both find the strength to let go and love one another?
I LOVED this story so much. The characters were so multidimensional yet likable, the plot and story fast paced and intriguing. The heroine was a kind, caring yet strong woman- unselfishly giving towards those she loved yet having a will of iron. The hero was a stubborn man, with so much potential for love and care, and an ambition that knew no bounds. Their lovemaking was passionate, and the pain and angst was real. I legitimately sobbed in some parts, and smiled in the others. So much heartbreak and almost tragic incidents take place, but all ends in a sweet HEA.
This is my first book by the author and certainly would not be the last. I really wanted to read more!

I received this ARC from netgalley.com
It has honestly been so long since I have read a really good straight romance novel. When I read the description for this on netgalley, I was instantly drawn to it. Not only was it contemporary, but it was set with a Scottish theme. And this time it wasn’t some hunky highlander, but a strong willed, very powerful fiery red headed female! I was instantly infatuated, and I was more than willing to grab onto the chance to read and review this novel.
Let’s just say I was not disappointed! Right from the beginning we get a taste of our ‘hero’ and well; he is suave, dashing, rich to all high heaven, and arrogant as all get up. Did I like him? No! Why, because he was almost downright wicked to Elgiva. Ok, yes the woman kidnaps him. But its not like she is abusing him in anyway, she is keeping him warm, feed, clothed, and has all his commodities from home available to him. However, there is no battle that Douglas is not willing to lose. Even if Elgiva is one of the most beautiful women he has ever seen, not to mention once he gets her going, one of the most sensual.
I was fanning myself more than once, and ready to yell at our daft hero more than once in this book. The story just flow smooth as a nice cool spring day. I ended up falling in love with both our main characters and hoping to God that they both got over their stubbornness and realized they were in love with one another. As much as I wanted to beat Douglas over the head with a frying pan, I wanted to fall into his arms, kissing him till my lips ached, and tell him “Take me you big stud!” Oh, yes the man is that well written and hot to trot!
Elgiva was my kind of heroine. First off she could cook and make clothes. At first I was rolling my eyes in worry that she was going to turn out dim witted and a Susie homemaker. I was very soon eating my words. Deborah Smith has written a strong and very likable heroine that I would totally want to befriend or live up to if I knew this woman in real life. She doesn’t accept defeat and she was unwilling to allow her while village to turn to nothing all because a rich man was drawn to it.
After many misunderstandings, a few sexual stand offs that lead me yelling at the book going “Just do it already please!!!!” I was left wanting more of Deborah Smith, and loving the fact that Douglas and Elgiva were getting their happily ever after!

A daring kidnapping of Douglas Kincaid, the man behind the money ends with him locked in a cell in her small remote cottage in Scotland, where she hopes to not only keep him captive until time has run out on his deal to purchase her family’s estate, but also to get him to fall in love with Scotland. Douglas is actually a member of the long-forgotten Kincaid clan, whose feud with the MacRoth’s in history resulted in their banishment to the Americas long ago. Determined to use her time with Douglas to put an end to the centuries-old feud, Elgiva is astonished by not only her physical attraction to Douglas, but also to how badly she may have misjudged him.
Overall, this was a fun twist on the classic “guy kidnaps girl from feuding clan then they fall in love” story. Having the heroine be the main one behind the kidnapping of the hero was brilliant, and I really enjoyed how Douglas attempted to lash out at her but always felt horribly guilty afterwards. I also liked Elgiva’s determination to kill him with kindness, and the sheer stubbornness of them both.
This was a fairly quick read, with quite a bit of avoidable drama. That said, I tend to enjoy avoidable drama, and treated this one as a Category Romance even though it may technically not be one, since most CR’s have a lot of melodramatic issues that could’ve been avoided if the characters had simply talked.
In the end, I found it quite enjoyable despite the few formatting errors, and my irritation with a few of the turns the plot took.

So I enjoyed this book. The plot, characters and dialogue was great, but I felt that the conclusion was too quick.
Let's start right from the beginning yeah? The intro of the book was very compelling and I certainly got sucked into it. The plot was interesting and different from others that I've read. Hot and mega-rich guy getting kidnapped by a woman made to be a very interesting start to the book.
So Douglas, the hero, was kidnapped by Elgiva, the heroine. Now, I liked both of them a lot, but this was one book where I liked the heroine more than the hero. Elgiva is a very strong woman, not afraid easily and is very very proud, just like the Scots of ancient times. She's also really funny and I felt her inexperience in sex was kinda funny when they were making love in the swimming pool. She practically attacked him! Heh, I can't describe things well, so I won't try, lest I take away the humor of that part! El's also very brave, she isn't afraid to voice her views no matter who she's talking too. Its really funny though, seeing how she faces down Doug, who has hardly ever faced so much difficulty in trying to charm someone.
As for Douglas, I felt that he was a really sweet guy underneath. I mean, he can quote poetry, not a lot, but still? Yes, and he is really nice to her. At long last, he had a chance to escape, but knowing that Elgiva was still out there in the cold probably injured, he straightaway went to rescue her, without a second thought. Of course, what happened next was definitely to his liking:P BUT there were some things I didn't really like about him. I found him to be way too ego. Who freaking names every boat after himself? Or rather, every single thing he owns? And he tried to copyright his own name... Enough said.
But the plot of the book was really good and it captivated me right from the start. I actually preferred it when he was still her captive, thus I didn't enjoy the ending so much. I loved it when she was completely unimpressed by all his wealth, making him super frustrated again! And the way she tried manipulating him with sexual innuendo was pretty funny too! Yes, but I didn't really love the ending. I thought it was a little rushed and could have been more elaborated. Like when he proposed and confessed his love. And so did she. He never believed she loved him in the past so I thought he should have been more surprised but he wasn't. And well, I actually would have liked to see more of him as a person. How should I say it? I feel like I don't really understand him, even after the whole book. Yes, it did give some parts a little bit in his POV. But I felt it didn't truly show who he was, at least not the way Elgiva knew him.
All in all though, this was a great read and I certainly enjoyed it! A little slow-moving and repetitive in places but still good.

His golden eyed redhead captor sure makes staying in a small stone cabin in the middle of nowhere, Scotland, interesting. She cooks good trying to feed him into stupor, and it doesn't help that he feels drawn to her no matter the situation. Douglas Kincaid, a billionaire, isn't used to of being not in control and the fact that the woman holding him against his will is just about as proud and stubborn as he is.
Elgiva's plan is simple, hold Kincaid in the little cottage until he can't be trouble for her village, easy enough. But what is not easy is when the man behind the bars is gorgeous and seems to eye her in a way that makes her stomach twist in the very good way. However this is to end for her she won't go down without a fight, she's doing this for her clansmen, for her village, she has nothing to lose, except maybe her heart to dark haired man who is trying to tempt her from his half of the cabin.
This wonderfully tempting story is fun to read and easy to finish in less than a day. Chemistry between Elgiva and Douglas is sparkling, both proud, unyielding, both going for exactly what they want - but stubborn enough to not see they both might end up wanting the same thing. A nice trip to Scotland to see the battle of wills. This book sure isn't boring! Its fun, entertaining, seductive and worth a read.

Really good, liked it a lot!
Elgiva's plan is simple, hold Kincaid in the little cottage until he can't be trouble for her village, easy enough. But what is not easy is when the man behind the bars is gorgeous and seems to eye her in a way that makes her stomach twist in the very good way. However this is to end for her she won't go down without a fight, she's doing this for her clansmen, for her village, she has nothing to lose, except maybe her heart to dark haired man who is trying to tempt her from his half of the cabin.
"I'll make trade, El. I'll give you the microphone back if you give me what I want," Douglas told her.
She shivered. "What would you be wanting?"
He met her eyes with a gaze that had suddenly become intense. "Five minutes of you. Just standing here and not making any protests."
Elgiva understood perfectly now, and her knees grew weak. "I'll just let you starve."
This wonderfully tempting story is fun to read and easy to finish in less than a day. Chemistry between Elgiva and Douglas is sparkling, both proud, unyielding, both going for exactly what they want - but stubborn enough to not see they both might end up wanting the same thing. I didn't enjoy this book as much as I hoped. For one, it was a lot shorter than I thought (eBook wise) but I don't think I would have wanted it to be any longer.
I guess when I read the synopsis I thought it would be a bit more exciting plot wise--with some twists and turns and witty negotiating. It had a few interesting tidbits but I often felt like it was trying too hard. It was very cheesy in parts and a generic romance overall with the typical characters.
I've read better and worse, but I wouldn't recommend this to someone unless they wanted a quick read to pass the time.
It's a shame because I love highlander romances and comtemporary romances so when I saw this I thought it was the best of both worlds but I only ended up disappointed. I don't think I will continue on with the rest of the series.

An all time favourite comfort read with plenty to admire.
Douglas hasn’t quite escaped the 1970s with his moustache and machismo both at full bristle. Fortunately he has a fine cashmere coat and pet dog Sam who will follow him to board meetings, boxing matches and in pursuit of pretty ladies (it’s only chapter one and I love him already).

In tow and yay! She shoots him with what I hope to be animal
tranquilliser and whisks him off to the Scottish Highlands, well it is the 90s by now and girls just wanna have fun. Good news - Sam’s on the cargo plane too.
Waking up in his half croft/half cell the story is a delight as our heroine’s slutty lady act turns out to be just that. Really Elgiva is a nice Scottish lass who knits socks, has lived with disappointing sex and needs to keep our US billionaire out of circulation so he can’t buy an ancient family castle meaning its ownership reverts to her brother.
He turns out to be a total cuddle bundle who looks good in long johns and has a nice line in lewd banter. She smothers him in hearty stew and hand knit socks as she reads him tales of the clans hoping to imbue him with the majesty of his history. He struts his muscled stuff, wafts his manly pheromones, breaks down the emotional barriers, tends burns, rips the odd nightie and sets more than a little lust aflame. It’s all rather glorious but getting too cosy - we need some peril soon.
And here comes the peril, Elgiva finds out that he knows her name and has read her diary (Sam you naughty dog), so does what all nice ladies do in this situation and heads off for in unplanned and unwise walk in the wild weather. When she’s not home by dawn it’s time to unleash Sam’s border collie skillz to find and deliver the key to our captive hero. Job done, hero strides across the highlands until he finds our heroine trapped under a fallen tree. Machismo and moustache at full tilt he rescues her and carries her home, the scene where he gets her warm is heart warming, bawdy and a reason to keep this book on the favourites shelf.
Nothing stays the same forever, in come her grumpy brothers followed by his trusty assistant in SWAT team mode and so the roles reverse.
Heading back to the US as his prisoner we follow our Scottish heroine through the horrors of waking up on his waterbed, being gifted a suitable wardrobe for her stay on his private island. His staff fall in love with her and protect her when he dumps her in the pond and later he teaches her to swim. All through there is a gentleness and loving with a fine sprinkling of humour (don’t chew the hot dog my lovely). All is adorable and they head back to Scotland for the HEA.
He buys the castle as a wedding present, her grumpy brothers accept him, she gets a knitting business, a HEA and loving relationship guaranteed. Winner all round :)
This isn’t just a straight him and her story, there is a rich background of characters who do more than pop up to move the plot along. She is no wimpy, willowy vehicle. He isn’t the standard Romworld autocratic billionaire. Whilst all totally unreal there is a realness and connection that wraps around you from the page. I love it (especially Sam) ;)

The passion between the beautiful couple in this book is off the charts and boiling over, shall we say, more than 100 degrees. The most interesting part of the book is when Douglas is in the cage :).
And also with the help of this literature I learned that through the cage you can make love or give each other true pleasure. Reading the bed scenes , I slightly wondered if I was reading exactly Deborah Smith. Since in most of her works, bed scenes more than once are rare. But of course as a true romance reader I'm not complaining about it, I enjoyed it.
Douglas and Elgiva's love story is beautiful, detailed, honest yet understated. Understated in terms of the awareness of love and in the characters' reflections. There is more passion here than there needs to be. Elgiva MacCroth is very tender, caring, naive and funny. Her inexperience the way she speaks is vividly described and I had it was one pleasure to read. Douglas Kincaid is right in place by the description. I didn't like his character in the beginning, but then I got the point. His attitude towards Elgiva is warm. Reading his caring and desperate thoughts about her is like flying in pink clouds.
Deborah never writes her love stories the easy way. There are a few cool and unforgettable scenes from this story in my crippled memory, such as Douglas's five-minute deal, his pants stripping, the pool incident, and where Douglas reads her diary.
An enjoyable read at 100%.
Deborah Smith, when she takes one subject for a book, she studies it down to the last detail and this study with her pencil turns into beautiful LEGENDS.

This may be an old book, but I was drawn into it right away. It was just a very fun read, and had the couple showing attraction at the start, even though both of them fought with each other. I would definitely read more of this author's books

Legends was an exciting, fun chess game of intrigue, attraction, and love.
For all the contemporary romance novels in the market today, Legends is one that I will remember due to it's off kilter premiss, endearing characters, sweet love story, and Sam (a brilliant dog).
Douglas Kincaid is an enigma - he is outwardly one person while inwardly the polar opposite. He's a multi-millionaire (maybe even billionaire) who has branded everything he's owned or taken over with his name. He wants the world to see the success he's claimed and admire the drive he possesses. Behind the public eye, however, he's an incredibly down-to-earth man with a heart of gold. His biggest secret is that he's lonely and is ready to settle down, but the woman he chooses must be a perfect blend of wit, business sense, beauty, and sincerity.
Enter Elgiva... She instantly captures Douglas' attention and, soon after introductions, literally captures his entire being. Elgiva is heir to land in Scotland that Douglas is planning on acquiring. If the sale of the land falls through - due to a missed deadline, for example - she will be awarded the property. The very small population of her town is counting on her to secure the land so that they can remain in their homes versus relocate as they would be ordered to do if Douglas Kindcaid's acquisition succeeds. Talk about pressure!!!! What is a girl to do? Kidnap and hold Douglas Kincaid captive, of course!
And so begins the cat and mouse games of business, attraction, and, ultimately, love. Legends definitely captivated me from the very first page. The characters were richly created and developed. The ever changing strategies and leaders (Douglas and Elgiva) kept the story moving at a nice pace. The chemistry and relationship between Douglas and Elgiva was challenging, stubborn, and endearing - truly a breath of fresh air.
I highly recommend Legends to any reader who is looking for a romantic tale that breaks away from the mold and puts the woman in charge... most of the time... ;)

remember reading this book years ago. I still like it and enjoyed reading again. Now I wish I could go back and read other books by her again.

He thinks its time for a wife so he is sitting behind a one sided mirror being told about the different women at his party. When a big beautiful woman peers at the mirror and gives him an eyefull.
Elgiva MacRoth drew his attention and got him to show her his garden on the roof than shot him with a tranquiler gun. Kidnapped him off his own highrise building and put him in a cell in highlands of Scottland. Elgiva is a widow and plans to keep Douglas in the cell for a month till his agreement to buy option runs out. He plans to buy her home and village and kick everyone out turning it to a tourist village. He plans to help them find new homes but they have been thier for generations.
Elgiva is also planning to teach him about his own history of the Kincaid clan, She plans to take care of him feed him well and promises he won't be hurt.
Kincaid believes he will be rescued by his security long before his option to buy runs out. He is furious with her tries to embrass her, hurt her and he is attracted to her.

This is a fun and easy read. The story is simple. And the chemistry between Elgiva and Douglas definitely was there. I like Douglas's dog, Sam that tried not to be sided with either his master Douglas or Elgiva while his master was being held as captive. It was also fun to read how Douglas was trying to torture Elgiva from his cell. And Elgiva loved her people so much that she was willing to risk herself to preserve the place for her people. I like the way Douglas dealt with the situation. He was quick to adjust himself to his environment. And after he had found out the truth and being confronted by Elgiva and her people, he was so cool and settled the whole thing in favour of everyone, including himself.
The story is rather short. You can easily finish reading it within few hours. It is fun and entertaining. I enjoy reading it very much. I rate it 4 out of 5 stars.

It was an awesome combination of the past and the present.i like to imagine that kind of wealth and love that exists and that we may not be privy to.but its ok.my imagination is soothed by this author.wonderful,short read.more!! More please!

Aaaaaargh!!!!! I LOVED this book...then it suddenly STOPS!!! There is so much more left to this tale. Why in the world end it this way??
