The book is a wonderful overview of how a modern-day Christian should study and teach the Old Testament. The first part deals with “Why bother?” The second part deals with “How do I study the OT?” The final part gives help for “What should I do to prepare to teach or preach from the Old Testament?” Most of the contents of the book are directly applicable to the New Testament as well. While the book is very good, the accompanying video series would rate much lower. Dr. Betts reads much of the book in the videos, and when he isn’t reading from the book, he’s not adding much new. Perhaps "Church Answers", who produced this study, assumed that people would not read the book. Partly it’s my own learning style, but the book is superior to the video series.
