The Vicious King
Book #3 and conclusion in the Deviant King series. Paranormal erotic romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone but better as part of the series since the couples from the prior books play a secondary role in this book.
Finnian Verran, the third and redundant Dark Fae Prince agrees to help a vampire find his kidnapped sister who is the daughter of the One True Queen. Finding and rescuing Taryn Emory starts a fate that was seen generations ago. Taryn and Finnian must find the Spear of Assal before the ruthless Light King destroys Faerie.
As Taryn and Finnian draw closer, he introduces her to the art and pleasures of shibari. It can calm the mind and it can heighten pleasure and they both find it helpful as their quest gets dangerous.
The fate of faekind rests in their hands as they fight to defeat the most vicious of kings.

Finnian is a second spare. Not necessarily needed for family business. But he had a feeling a safe house would be needed, and his gut proves correct. Saving Taryn starts a quest and adds danger to every member of his family.
Finnian is a cinnamon hero and Taryn calls him on it. He agrees. But he can also be a Dom. And she likes that too.
Suspense and steamy erotica scenes, with a touch of humor, move this story quickly from the height of danger to breathless anticipation and back to fighting for their lives. It’s a conclusion that will surprise and feel exactly right.

The Vicious King is a fantastic conclusion to The Deviant Kings dark paranormal series. Gina L. Maxwell combines all the best elements of romantic suspense, paranormal romance and kink-loving heroes for a super hot book that’s impossible to put down.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Dark Fae Prince Finnian is the youngest Verran brother, and he’s the largest and most vicious. When vampire Dimitri asks him to help find his missing adopted sister Taryn, an actual farie princess, he can’t say no. In fact, it’s his bond with her that helps break her out of the prison where the Day Court King is holding her. Now that they are together, Finnian receives a message from his seer grandmother that sends the pair on a quest to find the Spear of Assal to save the fae world. Somehow, they manage to find time to explore their attraction and Finnian’s shibari rope skills in between solving a mystical scavenger hunt. Impressive!

I don’t know why more people don’t talk about the Deviant Kings series. The premise of Las Vegas being secretly run by the dark fae is genius, and it grounds the series even while the characters puzzle out magical clues and work to protect the faerie world. This book is the finale to the trilogy, and I recommend reading in order.

Finnian and Taryn are both strong characters who work together as equals, and feel it’s ultimately their responsibility to protect the fae. They are quick to acknowledge their fated mates connection, and their sizzling chemistry is apparent in every scene. It’s the perfect mix of steamy moments, suspense, and just plain fun.

The Vicious King covers all the elements I love in a fated mates romance—there is a quest to save the world, forced proximity, with time for steamy moments and banter too. And the best part of a romantic suspense is that you can have third act tension without a third breakup. I adore this paranormal trilogy, and I can’t wait to see what Gina L. Maxwell writes next.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Finnian Verran is the double spare heir. As the baby brother to the King of the Dark Fae, he’s know for his dominance in the octagon and his kinks. When a friend asks Finn to help him find his kidnapped sister, Finn is all in. In fact, once he gets his hands on a clue that’s left for him, Finn is consumed with finding her.

Taryn Emory, estranged daughter to the One True Queen, has been held hostage in an iron cased room for over a year. Weakened and unable to tap into her powers, all Taryn can do is dream of a pair of golden eyes. To her surprise, those eyes belong to her rescuer- the youngest Verran Prince.

Vowing to protect her, Finn can’t deny the intense pull he continues to feel towards Taryn. Together, the two share secrets, embark on a quest to find a powerful weapon before it can fall into the hands of the evil Day Court King, and give in to their desire for one another.

What you’ll love about the final book in the deviant kings series:

👑 fated mates
👑 found family
👑 no 3rd act breakup
👑 rope play
👑 cryptic quest
👑 epic battle
👑 series finale

Finn was a surprise; his gentle calmness, fierce loyalty and protectiveness, and dominance make him the perfect balance to Taryn’s strength, fierceness, as well as her internal self doubt.

Gina Maxwell’s story telling and character building will simply leave you wanting more. She has the uncanny ability to create the most tender, gentle moments as chaos erupts. These moments will steal your breath and your heart. I’m so sad to see this series end, but can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next.

Get ready to fall in love with Finnian and Taryn's captivating love story as they take you on a mysterious scavenger hunt across Vegas. The Vicious King is the third and, in my opinion, the best in Gina Maxwell's trilogy.

In addition to the vivid world-building, the book features a mystic scavenger hunt and a delightful mix of fae, shifters, vampires, magic, and a parallel universe. Themes of found family, fated mates, mystery, and riddles are woven seamlessly into the story, making it a multifaceted and exciting read.
Finn and Taryn's dynamic is full of banter, spice, and sweetness. Finn is the epitome of a cinnamon roll character, while Taryn is strong and willful, a true badass who quickly became one of my favourite heroines. Their interactions are a joy to read, and their chemistry is electric.

Gina Maxwell exceeded all my expectations with The Vicious King, completely blowing me away with its depth and excitement. This series has become one of my favourites, and this book is undoubtedly the crowning jewel.

Fans of the series will be thrilled with the developments in this book, and new readers will be captivated by the rich, magical world Maxwell has created. I can’t wait for Dimitri’s book and to see where Maxwell takes us next.

If you’re looking for a series that combines romance, fantasy, and adventure. This trilogy is a must-read!

This has been my favorite one out of the 3 books. This whole series is just a really fun read! I love this couple, Finnian is a gentle giant/cinnamon roll. I loved his little nickname for Taryn, Solnyshko (little sun) he has top tier communication skills but will still kick your ass if needed. Taryn is a strong FMC that works to overcome her trauma & I loved seeing her come into all her potential. I loved the quest they went on around Vegas (my home) that was so cool to read. I really loved how everything wrapped up as well!

There’s fae, shifters, vampires & magic as well as a parallel universe. Found family, fated mates, bdsm (shibari) & some mystery & riddles.

5 ⭐ 3.5 🌶

What a perfect freaking end to this series. I absolutely loved this book. Finn and Taryn were amazing, I loved that there wasn't a drop of angst between them in this whole story. Leading up to their meeting I was expecting an enemies to lovers vibe, but they would have unalived themselves and anyone else for each other from day one and it melted my heart on more than one occasion.

The spice was drool worthy. I only wish the dang plot didn't get in the way so we could have had more 😅 jk, but seriously. Taryn is a rope bunny, Finn a rigger, and the shibari scenes were fire and so beautifully done. I could picture her rope kisses so vividly in my mind with the detail Gina gave us. I also love that their ropes ended up being a bigger part of the story as well.

Speaking of the plot, I loved this one. Taryn's backstory was even more heartbreaking than I expected and the little twists and the action/suspense in her and Finn's story were fantastic. I really enjoyed the role their family's played in their lives too, even if I did wanna go yell at Gina for a hot minute.

This boom ties this series up like a bow in the end. The epilogue gives us a sense of what the brothers are doing and what the world is looking like after the big baddy gets his due. Monty Phython fans will get an extra giggle from Tier, I mayyyy have snorted 😂 and now I just get to sit back and wait for Dmitri's story (pleaseeeeee Gina!)

Thank you Gina for this arc in exchange for an honest review and what an epic conclusion that was !!

I was literally on the edge of my seat I was not expecting so many twists and turns!

This is so fast pace and well thought out, and the epic conclusion was worth the wait (good thing I re read the first 2🤭)

Finn has my heart, a tall man that could beat you to a pulp but has a heart of a cinnamon roll. And Taryn is THE most powerful FMC of the series and I can't decide who is my favourite; a Bryn, Fiona or Taryn.

Taryn's pseudo sibling, Dimitri (who is a vanpire), is so funny and yet so mysterious. She hinted at some of his story but you're left wanting more. And their relationship was so sweet, how he looked for so long.

I absolutely love this series. and sad to see it end.. but I really hope with get Dimitri's book!

This was such a good ending to the trilogy following our three Dark fae princes.

Finnian and Taryn’s lives are entwined by prophesy; in their quest, they become everything to one another.

THOUGHTS 💭
🔥 Taryn is an interesting mix of pampered and strong; she is a princess, yet she is never one to back down from a fight or challenge.
🔥 Finn is the “forgotten” prince and is a big teddy bear; he’s down to earth and sweet, but so strong.
🔥 Finn’s ropes… 🪢🥵
🔥 This book features a mystic scavenger hunt; it reminded me of National Treasure (fae edition).
🔥 The banter, spice, and sweetness is so good between Finn and Taryn! I loved these characters: cinnamon roll Finn and strong, willful Taryn.
🔥 We got the happiest of endings!

Thanks to Gina Maxwell for the ARC of this book!

I really love this series! Finnian is my favorite Verran brother. So I was a little disappointed that this wasn't my favorite book of the series and I expected longer fight scenes. Also, I feel like as you continue to each book, there is less and less spice. Anyway, I love how they ended the series!

What a way to end an epic series! The Vicious King by Gina L. Maxwell have me in it's chokehold. It's fast paced, action packed and dramatic. It's emotional and swoony and heartbreaking. It delivers the right kind of spice and kink to melt your kindle. Finnian Verran emerged as the real powerhouse here. The youngest fae royal who always lived in shadows, turned out to be the king of all kings. I never expected the youngest Verran to be this dynamic, this dominant, this sweet, this kinky and this level of alpha! My heart almost couldn't take it.

And Taryn Emory definitely one of the strongest heroines in the series. That's not only because of her legacy. It's because of her vulnerability, her pain, her broken but beautiful heart and finally..because of the way she conquered all the obstacles and saved the day. This story kept me on my toes till the last page and believe me ..my heart stopped beating quiet a few times.

Though known as Dimitri Romanov's sister aka princess of Romanov vampire mafia clan...Taryn Emory is the only daughter of Aine Emory of the Summer Court and One True Queen of Faerie. Aine banished the celestial courts to hunan land. But the youngest royal from the Dark Court, Finnian didn't hold it against Taryn and helped Dimitri to rescue her from the evil Light King Edevane's clutch. Edevane is trying to kill Aine with The legendary spear of Assal and usurp all power and he must be stopped. Finnian and Taryn set on a treasure hunt based on clues left by his great grandmother Moira but it might be too late...unless Taryn can use her power effectively.

This story is high on fantasy and adventure side and I am not complaining at all. I loved every thrilling heart stopping moment of their adventure. It was also deeply emotional. Taryn has left her home because she is afraid to hurt innocent with her untamed power. She has so much guilt and pain and hurt..then comes Finnigan. From the first touch of her Armas..he felt this otherworldly bone deep connection with her. Protective and possessive and dominant Finnigan is definitely irresistible but the best part is the way he always believed in her. He pushed her to achieve the greatness and shake her fear off. She is a powerhouse waiting to be harnessed and Finnigan was her center. It was slow burn yet explosive. The twists and puzzles made me breathless. It had a very Avengers End Game vibe..IYKYK. Meeting the Verran brothers again was epic. The way all the force came together to beat the evil and reverse the damage, it was fan freaking tastic.

what an ending!

this is one of my favorite series ever, and this book was the BEST of the three. Normally, the second book is my favorite in a trilogy, and I thought that was gonna be the case here too. But then Gina came in hot with The Vicious King and completely blew me away.

This book was everything. The spice was on point, the plot had me hanging on the edge of my seat from the first page, and I loved seeing all the characters from the other books. I laughed, I cried, I swooned... and I cried some more... lol. It was perfect.

I also didn't know I was so into rope and knots but here we are.

Read this series. And I recommend doing it in order.

Final Book Ranking:
1. The Vicious King
2. The Rebel King
3. The Dark King

But I loved all three!!

All I have to say is that this book is XXX SPICY 🌶️! I absolutely devoured this book!📚 it read soo fast. The Viscous King was an amazing conclusion to the Deviant Kings trilogy. I love the two characters Finnian and Taryn. They fit together so perfectly in this story.
This book had some fiery scenes and some apparatuses that I had to totally look up to see what the heck they were! 😂
This book had a great mystery to uncover while going through Vegas and ending up across the magical veil in Faerie. This was my favorite of the three books. I really don’t know why more people don’t talk about this series, it is great!

Loved this conclusion to this fun kinky series! It was a fast and fun read and Finni and Taryn were sweet fated mates. I loved the little clues and mystery in this book and felt it really rounded off the series. Also love how education on d/s and bondage this whole series has been for me personally!

Crossing my fingers for a spin off where Taryn’s vamp brother gets a HEA. 🤞🏻

When Gina offered me a copy of this book, I had to jump at the chance. Gina L. Maxwell is one of my favorite authors because she makes you love the characters. Her character development is beautiful, and I was enthralled by the entire series.

Finnian and Taryn were great together and I loved watching them grow as individuals. I do wish there was more of a buildup to their relationship but there was a reason for the instant trust they experienced. I also really enjoyed the Shibari aspect of the book. It was well-detailed and I liked that it was not all about kink but explained how shibari can help people with anxiety, stress, etc.

The plot is where this book (and series) really shines. I love how interconnected it was and was enthralled with the plot. Once I hit the 60% mark in this book, I didn't want to put it down. I was constantly at the edge of my seat and almost threw my Kindle at one point (if you read the book, you'll know exactly what part). Watching it all play out really makes you appreciate how much of a mastermind Gina is. The plot was incredibly detailed and I loved how it was nothing that I expected. There were so many twists and turns that I got whiplash at times. It was so much fun.

All in all, this was a fantastic book. The series itself is fantastic and I loved every second of it. I'm incredibly sad that this series is over because of how much I'm going to miss these characters. I loved that this book brought back the old characters and I loved being in this world again.

Thank you to Gina L. Maxwell for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

CONTENT WARNING: violence, kidnapping, murder, death of a parent, grief, anxiety

I have been anticipating this book since finishing The Rebel King, yet also kind of dreading it, because it means I’ll have to say goodbye to this fantastic world. Have no fear, because I dove right in and devoured this book. I got really sick just after starting this, and had to go to the emergency room (twice) which ended with me getting admitted on my second visit. In case you were wondering, yes I certainly brought my kindle with me and read my way through the hospital stay. And I’m doing a lot better now.

After getting to know Caiden and Tiernan, I was so ready to immerse myself in Finnian’s story and finally get to know Taryn. I love the characters that Maxwell creates—they’re so vivid and realistic that they practically jump off the page. Yes, they’re physically perfect specimens of … well, I can’t really say humanity, but … faekind? But if a reader can move past the outside of the character, we get to know them as fully realized individuals. They make corny jokes (don’t think that Monty Python joke slid by me, Gina, and I actually cackled in the emergency room), they struggle with anxiety and difficult family dynamics, they second-guess themselves and face insecurity, and they goof around with their family and friends.

While each of these books technically works as a standalone, the story flows more smoothly and allows readers to follow along better if they’re read in order. This way, I’ve gotten to know the other two Verran brothers, and have been able to verify for myself that this quote is very fitting:

“If the Verran brothers were magazines, the oldest, Caiden, would be Maxim, Tiernan would be Playgirl, and I’d be Men’s Fitness. At 6’7” and 330 pounds of muscle, most people are intimidated by me. I’m not an intimidating person by nature—ask my sisters-in-law and they’ll tell you I’m more teddy bear than grizzly—but I’m not afraid to use my size and station to my advantage when necessary.”

While other characters do play a role in the story, it’s told through the alternating perspectives of Finnian and Taryn, allowing us to get inside both of their heads and follow along what is going on throughout the story. I especially liked this, since it not only allowed me to get to know both of them, but I was able to see how their thinking changed and a connection developed between the two of them over the course of the story. Although the bond developed quickly, there was a reason for it and it was explained well.

There was a found family trope that ran throughout the series, and it was used to great effect in this book. In the earlier books, the Verrans have demonstrated their bond with others in their inner circle, and we get to see Taryn’s connection to her “brother” Dmitri, who has also become found family to Finn. I enjoyed watching all of them become one big family and learn how to accommodate each other.

No one writes a spicy scene quite like Gina L. Maxwell, and she always manages to keep things fresh and exciting. In this book, she incorporates a kink that isn’t seen as often in books—shibari, or Japanese rope bondage. I appreciated the way that she explored how shibari isn’t simply a kink, but also offers healing, relief from stress, security, and even a way to manage anxiety, and all of these are detailed in the story. It was so sexy, especially the way that there was an emphasis on practicing safely and always with consent.

“Every single strand of the rope holds a purpose; it is not simply a tool, but an extension of my affection, forged to embrace and support her the same way I would with my body.”

Overall, this was the best possible ending to the trilogy that I could have possibly asked for, even if there was one part in the story that made me want to throw my kindle completely across the room. However, it made the twist afterwards even more impactful, and I almost fell off the bed when I found out what happened next. Maxwell avoided one of my biggest reading pet peeves, which is when a character accesses a skill or power for the first time and nails it; in this story she had her character busting their ass to learn how to use their skill the hard way—practice. I always credit Gina for changing the way that I think about romance novels: before her, I thought they were all the way they used to be in the 90s, and now I always look forward to starting one of her books. They’re chock full of spice, diversity, character development, snarky and amusing interactions, killer fight scenes, and plots that grab my attention right away and don’t let go until the end. In this case, my attention was held until after, when I got the bonus epilogue from signing up for Gina’s mailing list. It was well worth it, I promise. If you haven’t started this series, what are you waiting for?

The Vicious King - Gina Maxwell
Book 3 of Deviant Kings Series

4.5/5⭐️
4/5 🌶️

✨✨✨✨✨✨
Wow Gina that ending had me feeling so many emotions and making so many noises! Like wow I’m speechless! You get the suspense and the romance while going in an cryptic quest.

Finnian is definitely my favorite of the brothers now! He’s the largest, most vicious dark far prince but also is a total cinnamon roll for Taryn. He saves her after she’s been missing and ends up on this epic quest while realizing they need each other in more ways than one! Taryn is also such a bada$$ FMC that’s strong and seriously determined! At points in this book I was so proud of her too! Gina writes some of the best strong main characters I’ve read.

This is definitely one of my favorite series and if you haven’t checked it out yet you definitely should!

If you like to read:

- No 3rd Act Breakup

This Vicious King is the third book in the Deviant Kings series, and this installment focuses on Finnian Verran and Taryn Emory. I really loved the relationship development between Finnian and Taryn. They had a delicious push/pull dynamic full of great banter. I also found the binding process to be fascinating. The plot also moved at a fairly fast pace. I loved the quest to find the various clues hidden across Vegas. I also really appreciated the world building when crossing the veil.  I do wish the final battle would’ve been developed a little more. That scene did feel rushed to me. I do want to mention that I loved no third act breakup in this tale. Overall, I want to mention too how great Taryn’s character is. She has a healthy balance of knowing when she can take care of herself but also knowing her limits/when to accept help. In all honesty, the entire cast of characters surround Finnian and Taryn were engaging and entertaining. They’ve created a great real and found family. Tropes you can find in this story include: fated mates, found family, rope play, and a clue finding quest. While this is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. I do highly recommend checking it out.

This was such an IMMENSELY satisfying ending to this series.

Finn and Tayrn were perfection. Absolute perfection. Finn was such a marshmallow and Tayrn such a spitfire and they complimented each other perfectly.

I loved seeing so much of Dimitri and seeing him and Tayrn interact. In fact, can I just point out how much I love all the sibling relationships in this book? They’re funny and easy and so spot on sometimes with how siblings act with each other. The different relationships in general in this book were just so well done, weather romantic or familial or just friendship.

There was a lot of build up and backstory through this series and it was so satisfying to see the fruition of that work here. It was so satisfying to see how the story panned out.

I DO wish we had a bit more spice in this book and we got to see more utilization of the Shibari with that spice. I feel like we just didn’t get nearly enough of it (though the parts we did get were 🥵🥵🥵)

Also, are we going to get a Dimitri book? Because I would love a Dimitri book.

I am so happy I was able to get and ARC of this book. I loved every moment of it.

Another winner from Gina Maxwell but who's surprised? I loved the conclusion to the Dark Kings series and I'm so happy Finnian got his happy ending! I liked visiting different parts of the faerie world that we hadn't seen in the other two installments. I could feel Finn and Taryn's chemistry almost instantly and I thought the development of their love story was so well done. The spice, the spice the spice!! Gina knows how to bring it in her books and I was not disappointed whatsoever. The shibari was actually super cool to learn about and it was such an intimate and sexy moment as well. I enjoyed all the cute family moments and while I'm sad the series is over, I loved the way it ended. I can't wait to see what GIna will do next! Thank you to Gina for providing me with an e-ARC to read and review!

This was the perfect ending to such a great trilogy! I had been so excited for Finnian to get his own book and Maxwell did not disappoint with his book! I loved him in the other books but he was so much better than I expected! I remember wondering how there could be a love interest who could be good enough for him but Taryn was his perfect match. So perfect that there wasn't even a third act break up! They were such a great couple.

The world building in this book went way beyond the first two books. If you wished there was a little more fantasy to the first two books then you will get everything you wanted in this book! I loved learning more about the fae and Faerie. The first two books had amazing world building already, but Maxwell really added a lot to this book.

Finnian and Taryn are amazing on their own, but we also get a lot of time with the rest of the characters from previous books too! I love the banter and love between the family and friends in this trilogy. This book really was the perfect ending to the trilogy!

wow when I read the 2nd book back in January I did not think a couple months later I would be reading an arc of the next one 🥰. Thank you so much Gina for this arc I loved it so much. Now my top was Tiernan but now it’s Fin 100%🥹 I didn’t expect such sweet words from this man 🥹. And Taryn is right he is 100% a cinnamon roll. “I do, because you tell me a dozen times every day”. He frowns. “Only a dozen? Thats just sad. I’ll get it up to two dozen, I promise” 🫠🫠🫠 right from the start I was so hooked on their story and loved it, the romance, the banter and adventure. I loved going back and seeing all the characters especially certain twins ( Debby Ryan hair tuck) 🥰 and Dmitri - I love them 🥰. If you love fantasy mixed with romance, banter found family and as a series this is the book for you. I can’t wait to see what you do next 🥹

"Viscious King" follows the story of Finnian, the exiled dark fae prince, and Taryn, estranged daughter of the One True Queen, as their destinies collide. After Finnian saves Taryn from her kidnapper, Finnian is sent on a mysterious mission by his dead grandmother, Queen Moira, who died before he was even born. She was gifted with foresight and had visions of his destiny.

The steamy scenes are definitely creative and intricate. I loved Finn and Taryn's relationship as they appeared to have a natural chemistry and are drawn to one another. I also love how he calls her solnyhko "sun"

"You are mine to bind, mine to pleasure, mine to care for. Isn't that right?"

The Vicious King was MUCH anticipated for me and Gina L. Maxwell did not disappoint! I adore The Deviant Kings! I wanted to crawl inside this book and become part of the story. Taryn and Finnian complement each other so perfectly. As always ,this was an adventure from start to finish. I didn’t want it to end!

I wanted to love this book....I LOVED the first two, The Rebel King was one of my top five books last year. I just did not vibe with the characters. The fact that they fell in love so quick was odd to me but I'm not into instalove books. I much prefer a slow burn so although I didn't love it I know there are people who will. Tiernan will always be my king 🥵🤭
