After participating in a fundraising run, FBI agent Emma Griffin is invited to a week-long retreat. Upon her arrival, she is instantly captivated by the beautiful yet eerie surroundings of the remote resort. Sadly her time at the resort is soon met with misfortune and strange phenomenon. When people start going missing and the guests start acting strange, Emma gets the sense that no one at the retreat is telling her the truth. And as Emma attempts to uncover the mystery of the resort, she finds herself becoming a pawn in someone's twisted game.
In a maze full of murderous traps, the only way to survive is to run.
I did not like this book. It was so confusing that by the time I got to the end I couldn't figure any thing out. I still don't know what actually happened. I would not recommend this book.
I enjoyed reading The Girl on the Retreat (great character development, dialogue, intrigue) until we got to the grisly aspects of violence depicted in The Park. And then the Epilogue needed an Epilogue to explain what was real! Was Emma hit by a car in the resort parking lot toward the end of the book, then hospitalized and on life support for a long time? Were the experiences of The Park Emma's hallucinations and delusions while comatose, and if so how was the mystery of the missing people resolved? Or was the whole of the Retreat delusional? There's no follow up book in this series might start out with a clarification, so I guess I'll just have to figure that out for myself.
I’m so blown away by this book as well as every single other book you have written. I’ve read each one! While I don’t really make a comment about much just stars usually given; I am so impressed by how seamlessly the flow of the storyline is from one book to the next. The Girl on the Retreat left me with so many questions and I am anxiously looking forward to reading more of these books after this one! I absolutely adore each of the characters and how they cross into each series of books and maintain that consistency throughout the books. Just amazing work overall a sure 10/10!
How can The story just end there? Did I miss something? I feel like i did. Maybe I was asleep with Emma. This book was harder for me to follow. It was an unusual setting so it makes me wonder if I was in her dream. Any way the characters are great and have an unusual connection for a family. But it shows that we can pick our family members. From the beginning to the frustrating end, this is another out-of-the-box , just plain great continuing story. It cannot be the end.
This is supposedly the final book in the retro series and it left way too many unanswered questions. It felt like it was a to be continued instead of a complete book. The last few books have left opened questions but I felt this one was way too open ended and while I enjoyed the book right up to that point it left me unsatisfied and unhappy that I wasted my time reading it.
I liked and didn't like at the same time. For the most part it was interesting and I could not put it down. But I felt like it got to the end and was explaining the past and motives but they were never hinted on during the rest of the book. But I love these books, I LOVE Xavier and Dean. I look forward to reading more. Cannot wait to find out what the ending meant.
The Girl on the Retreat(Emma Griffin FBI Mystery Retro-Limited Series Book 5)
OMG,OMG and OMG!!!!!!!!!!! This book was amazing and truly exciting. I couldn't put it down. I now wonder if this was a real case and a real place. Did Emma dream all of it, did they do something to her that put her in a coma, if not what happened to Emma? I can't wait for the next book.
This book leaves some many things unanswered, it seems like I must have been in a dream myself and missed parts of the book that held answers to question that I had when I got to the end. Enjoy most of the authors books but something the books get confusing. Would recommend most of her books but not this one
Emma once again does her most alarming work amongst odd, sadistic, crime lovers. She is talked into helping at a seminar for crime buffs only to become the target of sadistic manipulative people in a lush, relaxing retreat. Sound a pit lopsided and convoluted? Yes, but so intense you can’t put it down until you are finished!
Found these books on Kindle Unlimited and AJ Rivers has become one of my favorite authors. The storylines are weaved so smoothly and I love her family and fellow FBI agents. I can’t wait for the next book to come out so I’ll have to read the next FBI Ava James book she wrote
This book delves into the world of true crime civilians and those who take it to the next level. It seems like all is well, but unusual things happen from the time Emma sets foot in the resort. She tries to ignore the oddities and her spider senses, but the weird events keep pulling her until she makes the connections that she should trust her gut.
Emma is invited to a week-long retreat to give seminars on investigative techniques at a resort. When people start disappearing and odd things start happening, Emma becomes suspicious that this retreat is not as advertised. And the ending will make your jaw drop.
I was so confused as to where this was going. It was enjoyable and interesting, familiar almost. I love how fluently it all came together and kept m in the dark until the bitter end. A.J., amazing. Haven't written one I haven't enjoyed yet. On to the next one!
There is nothing to dislike about this book. It kept me interested from page 1 . Very well written and kept the suspense coming. Emma can always ferret out a clue from the smallest detail
This book was great. You allow Emma to handle her own cases and that is perfect. Please do more Emma and the men in her life. Their relationships are the best. Teri Humphries
I love everything about AJ Rivers' Emma Griffin world! If you have read this book, tell me what you think about the great ending! If you haven't read it -- read it asap!
This book kept me reading until I reached the final chapter! It is where everything comes to a culmination and surprised me once again. Love this series and this author!
This was a slower build up of characters and atmosphere. The last twenty pages few by and the end had me shout out loud, What!?!? Well done, well done.
Somehow only half a story, cut off before the situation is fully resolved. A bit disconcerting and slightly frustrating, as I have many, many questions.
I theorize that Emma was being subtly poisoned along the way but no confirming or disproving my surmise.
These books never fail! Another heart pounding , edge of your seat, page turner! The depraved out there is scary! Please don’t leave me hanging!! I need more of this series!!!!!!
Just finished this last book in the retro Emma Griffin series and it was a page turner. It was so well written and kept you on the edge of your seat the whole way. Highly recommend this entire series. Perfect end.
I would of liked to a Finnish that told more. I would have liked to know more about how she even got to the hospital and how the others were. Who else was envolved
This book takes Emma away on her own to speak at a retreat. It is very slow reading getting to the action. Over half the book is building up the characters and only the last few chapters really get into what was going on with the missing employees of the lodge. Then the ending....disappointing.
I have read several in the series so the characters are known & loved all ready! I thought at first this one was moving a little slow but it was giving details all along & it was good. I enjoyed reading it!
This was a strange storyline that reminded me a bit of the song Hotel California. Emma is invited to be a guest speaker at a weekend seminar at a hotel. The person who was supposed to present was not available so she was a fill in. The coordinators seemed to go all out for the event and Emma is preparing her presentations but keeps finding things that seem odd. To be honest, most of the characters and events seemed a bit disjointed and not making much sense.
I don't want to give anything away but I will say that the ending made all of that make more sense but I'm not sure if the ending meant the whole series or just this book. Either way, enjoyable series.
This was a slow pace book, that kept repeating the same scenario over and over. It seemed like this was done to make the story longer. The plot of what was actually happening at the retreat didn’t take place until the last two chapters of the book.
Another amazing Agent Emma Griffin book. AJ Rivers you have any incredible story telling ability and imagination. What happened to Agent Emma Griffin? What can I read next?
