What would you do if the world as you knew it suddenly came crashing down around you?
A financial system in shambles, America slowly slips closer and closer toward collapse.
As everything is in ruin, a suburban city burns.
As small group of unlikely survivors bands together to weather the storm. A few well prepared, well-armed, and well-trained friends band together. Police Officer John Gonzalez, recently wounded in the line of duty, rallies his group of thrown-together friends into a tight group to survive the end of the world as we know it in the City of Kankakee, an hour South of Chicago.
Tremendous book, definitely a different take on a financial collapse. A police officer has a Compound on the edge of a town in Illinois. When everything collapses, he gathers his buddies and their families into his compound and begin trying to take back over their town. With the help of surviving town police, county sheriffs and some National Guard they start trying to stabilize the town. They run into outlaw bikers, drug dealers and then a group out of Chicago associated with a cartel from Mexico. Big battle at the end. Hopefully there will be more, even though it is Book 1, haven't seen a Book 2 yet, though Book 1 came out in February 2023.

Right up front I will say that I read every book like this I can get my hands on and have for the past 5 years. I’ve noticed that many authors of this type of book are typically conservative but it has only been the past couple of years that some of these books are so far slanted to the right that they are ridiculous and filled with far right rhetoric and hate and garbage against the Democratic Party. I’ve had to give those books a super low rating and did not finish them. They were too divisive and full of ignorance - and mainly white men and racist type garbage. Not so this author or book. This author expressed some conservative ideals but also shared that the entire system was messed up without assigning blame. This book was also filled with all types of folks - people of color, men, women, etc and most were fighting for their country and town. This author did a great job with world building with memorable main characters and realistic dialogue. I look forward to reading more and hope there is a book 2!
Not going to waste time retelling the story just to add words to the review. The book had it's moments. The premise was excellent but the storyline itself was weak. Too much time spent trying to establish the author's knowledge of weapons and not enough on the basic aspects of the story, such as names for the kids. Not to mention, the dog was brought into the story, then only mentioned again twice, while suddenly making him a hero and casually mentioning his training. A really good proof reading and honest feedback could have solved many of the problems in the book. Will probably read the next book to see if the storyline matures.
I like the story and the characters. Could use some editing, some actions by certain characters were confusing based on what they just stated. I will definitely read the next in the series and anything else Garcia puts out.
This one definitely gave me another look at different side of things. Great characters, excellent plot line and tons of action. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
This is a good start to a post apocalyptic series. The characters need further development. Overall it kept my attention and I am looking forward to more of this story.
