Dark Mate-Claim #2

Protector: Treachery

Rate this book
I created him. Put him back together when he was nothing but ripped muscle and snapped bones.
I made him stronger. Faster. Lethal. I molded him into a weapon. And for three years, I controlled his every breath.
He hates me for it.
I hate him, too.
When I was weak and desperate and thought I would die, he was the one who came for me.
He claimed my freedom to save my life, and I am no longer the one in control.
Now, he is my unwilling protector, and I…
I am his unwilling mate.

I am Nora Ash, and I write a plethora of different romance books. Some of them are really dirty, some of them are only kinda-dirty, some are paranormal, some are contemporary… Basically, I have a rampant imagination and no way of controlling it, except from just writing down whichever idea pops into my head at the time.

The one thing my books always have in common, though? A great story and a guaranteed HEA.
If you’re ever in doubt about what you’re about to read, have a look at my book page. It has a flame rating for each series, so you know what you’re getting yourself into!

I’m originally from the cold North (AKA Scandinavia) but these days I live in rainy England with my amazing fiancé and our two pesty cats. When I’m not writing, I’m probably reading, watching Real Housewives of Wherever (reality tv it’s my shameful addiction) or hiking in whatever bit of woodland I can find.

Three fun facts about me

I once ran away with a traveling circus
I’m bilingual. Almost-kinda trilingual, but my Spanish is terri-bad these days.
I’m a decent rider (English style only, though)

AX2 saves Adelaide from the russians, and since she has been claimed by a russian alpha, that he killed, he has to claim her to save her life, becoming his mate.
They hate each other, so it's funny to see how this goes.
Also, there's a complot against democracy that Adelaide's father lead, using her perfect soldiers.
As the first one, this ends with a cliffhanger.

I rarely find the Enemies to lovers to fully work for me. Enemies to lovers to me is pure dislike and hate for each other that makes the eventual loving between them feel so much more intense. This is heavy on the darkness and there is rape in the first book, so trigger warning for that. The plot as well as the romance got so intense in it and I got so disappointed when it turned out to be another part to this novella series. The problem is that the book app I'm using don't have the next one 😩
I might go and buy part three but I don't know.

Nora Ash,you’re killing me with this series!
After Protector:Rage,i was desperate for Treachery, and i though that reading the ARC would help.
What i got was a rollercoaster ride of emotions, twists and turns that made my head spin, and another cliffhanger that nearly did me in….
Please….tell me Protector:Bound will come soon…..very soon!
Because i need closure, and this time for real!

After mating with AX2,Addie….sorry,dr. Thompson, feels very vulnerable.
Not just because they’re mated, which is something she hates but had to happen in order to survive, but why it had to happen.
Being saved and brought back home, she has trouble adjusting, but knows at the same time she can’t show any weakness.
Trying to act like she’s fine isn’t working out as she hoped, though….and she needs AX2 close to feel a little….better.
But finding out it all happened as part of a plan nearly destroys her after all.

AX2 hates being mated to his tormentor, but he had orders to bring her back safely.
Now,he’s bound by their matingbond to keep her safe, and the way that makes him feel is something that puzzles him.
On the one hand,he dies if she dies, and that sounds like a blessing.
But on the other,he saw her at her lowest,at her most vulnerable, and that does something to him.
Hearing that what happened was all part of a plan, makes him doubt everything he knows.

The fact that these two need eachother against their better judgment hurts, badly.
To know you have to depend on the very thing you “despise” to keep you safe and sane?
To realize that the very person you “hate” because of everything she’s done to you,now needs you?
That sure takes some adjusting, and i can’t wait to see the endresult!
And the plans that will change everything….that basically are considered treason…..they have been set into motion with no way of turning back!
It’s killing me that i don’t know…..i need to know…..Nora,PLEASE!!!

Protector Treachery : A Dark Romance - Part 2 – ALC

Written by Nora Ash

Narrated by Jason Clarke and Stella

Please visit Nora Ash website for a complete listing of Trigger Warnings (listen at your own discretion)

This book picks right up from where Rage ends, Dr. Addie is brought to her knees literally and the only one to save and protect her is AX2. Addie has believed her whole life that Alphas are not for her, as child she watched her father with her mother who adores his family more than life itself. But somewhere down the line that shifted for Addie, she swore against submission and would not be an object of anyone’s affection. In this second installment we dig deeper into how AX2 came into Addie ‘s lab and why he hates her as much as he does but does, he really hates her though? He is an Alpha begin controlled by a Beta (woman). General Thompson has many secrets as to why he wants AX2 so close to his daughter, I cannot give the story away as this one will hit you gut so hard; I promise you will see any of this coming. Nora hit it out the park with this one. Will Addie forgive her father, will she trust AX2, or will she destroy the machine she has created? We will need to wait for Bound Book 3 of the Protector series. Damn another cliff hanger. I give these 5 stars and reviewed with my honest opinion

Well written characters where you really feel for AX2! Though empathy really begins in book 2 for Addie. Definitely fear at what her father is capable of! Looking forward to the next book!.

I'm really enjoying this series a lot. This is definitely a true enemies to lovers story. These two characters start out genuinely hating each other so the progression of their relationship is pretty slow, especially for an alpha/omega couple, but in a good way. This is part 2 of 3, so like the first installment of the series, this book ends on a cliffhanger. Definitely looking forward to reading the next one.

More angsty cyborg/alpha and the scientist who won't relinquish him of her control

The way I had been desperately waiting for this since reading Rage in the dystopian Omegaverse antholgy it was featured in and I was not left dissappointed.

The story continues on after a traumatic event, leading AX2 pretty much forcibly mated due to his programming and lack of control over his actions as a cyborg.
AX2 being an Alpha underneath the machinery can't resist his biological instinct to protect his new mate and we're blessed with some really wonderfully intimate moments between the love interests even though they both attempt to fight against it in their trauma and stubbornness.
But there's also a mystery unfolding, which makes the events unfolding in the story that much more addictive. I need the next book so bad 🤓😵

You must read Rage first! And I highly recommend it!

Protector: Treachery is the 2nd book of the Protector Trilogy by Nora Ash and you MUST read the first book 'Protector: Rage' first as both end on a cliffhanger. Luckily we don't have to wait long before the third and final addition is live (June 2023)! And I'm really looking forward to the 3rd book!! 😘

I gave it ➡⭐⭐⭐⭐
Heat meter ➡🔥🔥🔥

This series is quite dark and angsty.
It has several triggers. 😈

I didn't enjoy this 2nd book as much as the first one, which was a little disappointing. 😇

That said, it's still a very well-written novella series and I am enjoying the story immensely, hence the 4x stars.
I've been waiting for this series for years now ever since the tiny little snipped we got at the end of Feral and I still find it worth the wait. ❤️

I do immensely dislike our MFC Adelaide. 😂

It really grates on me haha, because I don't tend to enjoy "Alpha females", though she is very much an Omega. There is bound to be a reason for her serious dehumanisation of AX2, we just haven't gotten to the root of it. I hope we do find out in the next book.
Her severe need to control the AX men and hold power over them is a problem for me. 😂
That said, she does start to redeem herself towards the end, which I was happy about, and I hope that continues. 👏

AX2...I just feel for him so bad. 💔
But he's starting to feel less like a machine throughout this book, which was nice to see, so we definitely get a great character transformation, I can't wait to read the last instalment to see where he takes it!

The fact that I have these huge feelings towards our MFC and MMC is a huge plus in my column to the author. Nora Ash is a wonderful writer and her books have always taken me on an emotional rollercoaster.
And though 'Protector: Treachery' may not be of my favourites from her, the universe she has created as part of this now three-book series is part of my favourite Omegaverse worlds and I can't wait and hope that she adds even more books to this wonderful world she has created with this series. 🥰

AX2, the male cyborg alpha lead, has bound Addie, the female human omega lead, to him as his mate to save her life after she was forced into an initial mating and then her mate killed by AX2. They both hate the situation but, now that they’re stuck together, they’re finding just how binding it is. And they’re still trying to work out how and why Addie was taken. And it’s beginning to appear to have been an inside job, maybe someone Addie trusted implicitly…

This novella is dual POV, well written and edited, and a great continuation from the first part. It picks up literally where the other stopped, so it absolutely doesn’t stand alone. I enjoyed the developing emotions between the lead characters. Trigger warnings are totally appropriate - please pay attention! I appreciated the empathy that was building between them, and applauded AX2’s consideration of Addie’s immediate history in light of their joint physical desires. I enjoyed the external plot and empathised with Addie’s shock at betrayal and am definitely waiting for the final episode because there’s a couple of directions this could go and they’d both be interesting.

The plot is thickening.
But unfortunetly that the steamy scenes. And I need them desperately!!!

I still don't know what makes Addie the bi*ch she is with her evil cruelty towards AX. But to see her struggle in accepting what her DNA write her as submissive omega, is one giant life sentences for her.
Their chemistry was biologic fast cause alpha-omega chemistry can't be denied. Her strong head-ness take the wheel most of the time.
His alpha-ness is a reluctant protector who will never hurt her even when he can, easily.

And the plot? Traitor. Treason. Betrayel to the utmost.

I got to say, seeing what is happening today in real life, on how the "free country" the "super power" nation is nothing but the biggest terrorist gang in the world, I have to say, I wish this plot of coup is real.
I wish the very weapon they created will be the evil, sadistic, brutal, criminals goverment down fall! HARD!!!

The author has readers on the edge of their seats at the end of book !, so it is necessary to read it to thoroughly enjoy and make sense of this fabulous sequel. If you have read book 1, then ignore the recap below.
[Recap: AX2 is part of a class of scientifically engineered military alphas. He has been kept in seclusion for 3 years by his creator, Dr. Adelaide Thompson. Their relationship is based on mutual hatred. He hates her for keeping him away from other soldiers like him, punishing him with pain for showing emotions, and treating him like a machine. Her hatred for him is unclear, but readers are given hints that it may be her conflicted relationship with her father, General Thompson - also an alpha. Additionally, she works in a field dominated by men, in which she feels dismissed and disrespected, so she takes out her anger on AX2. It’s easier than addressing her own issues, because she has complete control of AX2. In the last chapter, the unthinkable happens. Addie is kidnapped by Russian operatives while she was at her own apartment. Her father tasks AX2 with rescuing her. AX2 is dropped off near a compound in Russia, where Addie is held hostage. He kills all the soldiers there, including the alpha who claimed her. He was ordered to save her, but in order to do that he has to reclaim her (bite her while copulating). For the first time he has empathy for her, so he tells her to decide her own fate. She agrees to be claimed by AX2.]

Book 2 picks up from Addie’s return. Both Addie and AX2 are brought to her parents’ home after the rescue. She now has to face the reality of being bonded to AX2, which means she cannot be physically separated from him (no more than the length of a room); otherwise, they both get severe chest pain. Despite knowing that, Addie’s stubbornness and stupidity override this biological imperative. AX2 has to endure the pain she suffers, and secretly wishes the Russians had killed her before the rescue. Who can blame him? Because she was kidnapped, beaten, and sexually violated, she wants to maintain control over her immediate surroundings, AX2, and her emotional turmoil.

The author does a great job in conveying both AX2 and Addie’s biological and emotional conflict. Very slowly, Addie comes to realize that AX2 is not a machine, while AX2 discovers through her diary that Addie hasn’t always been a dispassionate, cruel monster. What caused the change, eludes us all. I will not spoil the pleasure of reading this novella by disclosing the details of how these things transpire and what makes their relationship move from mutual hatred to one of tolerance and protection. Still no romance here, ugh 😩. More surprises await the reader during and after Addie’s debriefing by the NSA at the Pentagon with a stunning conclusion to this book. Looking forward to the culmination of this fantastic trilogy in June.

Note: Please check out Nora Ash’s website for information on the trigger warnings for this series. There are some very sensitive topics covered in this series.

Protector: Treachery picks up where Protector: Rage left off. AX2 and Addie are back from her dangerous ordeal. Instead of being in full control of AX2, she and the soldier/weapon are on a little more level playing field—with some wavering on both parts. The CIA want to debrief Addie and AX2 on her kidnapping and subsequent rescue. AX2 is introduced to other versions of ultimate soldiers. He understands he was built as a weapon, but has questions about his origin. He’s an Alpha, and Addie controlling him goes against his nature. When AX2’s submission to Addie is removed, this is where the fun starts. Addie’s world goes haywire, and she has no clue how it’s happening. But she and AX2 are determined to get to the bottom of things, but when they seem to get one thing figured out, it seems to open up another can of worms.

I’m at the edge of my seat with this one. More action, deceit, and heat between AX2 and Addie. The twists and turns continue, and the ending left me with my mouth hanging open. I cannot wait for the conclusion of this epic story.

Jason Clarke and Stella Hunter narrated this story, and did a wonderful job.

Well I thought I was expecting one thing but I was totally thrown for a loop. Ms. Ash once again kept me on my toes with this followup book. She always does such an excellent job to use these sophomore series books to their full potential. They are never the "filler" books you so often see in other series that hardly move the plot or the character development along; more there to increase sales than anything else.

No, this book pushed that line. Layers of character backstory were pulled back and delved into, as the author started to shine a light into the shadowy pasts of the damaged alpha that is more machine than man and coldly clinical woman who seems to be a machine than an omega. The situation that forced them together forcing long buried secrets from the dark.

Ash does a wonderful job of playing on this non-con dynamic shift and how it effects the characters internally with the roles forcibly switched. It's deliciously dark and as that bite of danger. To elicit that feeling that keeps you right on the edge and yet it's something unnamed - it gets you all the way to the end.

~*~ Audiobook Review ~*~ Treachery picks up right where Rage left off…so you are upside down on this dark rollercoaster! AX2 and Adelaide were faced with an impossible choice and now their world is so much more complicated. This book is appropriately named with Addie and AX2 unwillingly mated to save her life and now entrenched in the secret machinations of people they should be able to trust. Her control of him is at war with the mate bond and sparks will fly. One step forward, two steps back. Who do you trust?!? Addie is determined to show no weakness in spite of the major trauma she suffered. AX2 is struggling with his hate for her and the mate bond’s demand that he protect her while also sharing glimpses of emotion she would never share willingly with anyone, let alone the machine. We find out there is much more to the story behind AX2 and Yowza!! Another cliffie and I can’t wait to see what happens next in this tumultuous, exciting, dark thriller that will challenge you to sit still for the ride.

Once again, Jason and Stella are amazing with these complicated characters. Every breath, every whimper, every emotion in the right place to take you on this dark journey and deliver you safely in spite of the rollercoaster ride. Excellence in audio casting, editing, proofing, etc.!!

This is a dark romance centered on the omegaverse with powerful Alphas. It is a trilogy, so you will need to read the books in order for the full story (Rage, Treachery, Bound) It goes DARK, so make sure you check out trigger warnings on the Author’s site if that is at all concerning for you.

Pain and Pleasure and Pain

‘It’s amusing, on some faraway plane. Haughty doctor Adelaide Thompson, the woman who’s made herself the vengeful god of his existence, doesn’t understand why she needs him to scare away the terrors in her blackened soul. And she’s too ashamed to admit it. Won’t tell him she needs him to guide her. But like it or not, he’s her alpha. She doesn’t need to ask.’

So much happens in Nora Ash’s second book on her Dark Mate-Claim Romance series. Addie is confronted with emotional and physical torment in a variety of ways and must come to terms with the relationship forming between herself and her machine, AX2.

AX2 is starting to ‘feel’ and must control his emotional state, as he struggles to do what he has been built to do, while protecting Addie.

Dark, dark times for both of these characters.

I need to get book 3 to learn how the treachery is punished!

In Protector:Treachery AX2 and Adelaide are mated but it’s difficult for both to accept each other given the circumstances of their mating. AX2 hates that he was commanded to mate with someone who he despises. Adelaide can’t bring herself to view AX2 as more than a machine. Their reservations regarding being each other’s mates does not seem to matter as their mating bond and omega and alpha natures dominate.

Book 2 provides a hint that there’s more to AX2 and Adelaide’s past that influenced the people they are now. There’s also a plot involving Adelaide’s father but this might be one more thing that Adelaide can’t forgive. I’m anxiously waiting for book 3 as Treachery came to an end with quite the cliffhanger that makes me think one more book might not be enough to answer all the questions that came up as a result. So maybe a Book 4 as well Nora😉?.

Wow, I could never have taught this would happen. I’m completely surprised, but I’m loving it even more. I love that AX2 is becoming more of an alpha that he was born to be. I must say these new developments have me thinking how well the general truly knows the new AX2 or is he wanting Jacob back. I can’t imagine what’s going on in Adelaide mind. She been through hell only to find out it all due to her loved one. I’m more curious to see if she will find his control pad. I love the change in Adelaide, she is becoming more softer around AX2. I can’t help, but feel this new bombshell can cause the return of Dr. Thompson or will the new AX2 be able to reassure her. I’m seriously looking forward to the final book in this series.

I'm gonna try so hard to write this without giving away a lot.

This one was so much better for so many reasons. We see more of Addie before she was a cold scientist and I loved watched Ax2 discover those small things along the way. The plot twists and dark reveals were insane and it's a little sad, but it definitely emphasized their forced relationship and the important work Addie dedicated her life to. The pace was good, the characters were easy to hate and sympathize with. I'm probably ecstatic over this one because I actually got to enjoy all the good yummy sexy times. And the aftercare?? From a supposed machine who couldn't be anything more than a man? Bless.

Good chemistry. Good struggles with feelings of what was being done and what had been done. Nice storytelling. I'm happy.

Wow, I never could have predicted this would occur. I'm totally taken aback, but I love it even more. I love that AX2 is turning out to be a greater amount of an alpha that he was destined to be. I have to admit that these new developments have made me wonder if the general really knows much about the new AX2 or if he wants Jacob back. What Adelaide is thinking is beyond my comprehension. She went through hell only to learn that everything was because of her loved one. I'm more interested in finding out if she finds his control pad. I love the adjustment of Adelaide, she is turning out to be more gentler around AX2. I can't help but think that this new bombshell could either bring Dr. Thompson back or reassure her. The last book in this series has me really excited.

We pick up where we left off in the first book and what a ride the author takes us on. After Adelaide is kidnapped her father enlists AX2 to go and rescue her. When he finds her you cannot help but feel for her, no-one deserves what she has been through and there is only one way he can save her life and it isn't an option either is thrilled about but Adelaide orders AX2 to go ahead. When they get home they are now bound together in a way that cannot be broken, but they don't have a choice, genetics will have their way. Only it turns out that the person who betrayed Adelaide is someone she never could have expected. The characters are simply perfectly crafted and the author has done an amazing job in starting the rehabilitation of Adelaide and the plot is perfect and flows so smoothly from the first book.

Book: Protector (Treachery)
Read By: Ebook
Author: Noras Ash
Genre: Omega Verse, Romance
Recommend: Yes
Spice:🌶️️🌶️️
< b>Age recommendation: 18-30+ Years
My feelings:

Book 2 was even better than book 1. I love that they are only short storys. Not like super short. This one is 156 pages long.

“Do you think you'll ever want to purr for me?”

The thing I love the most is there is no woffling. Heaps of actions and drama and jam packed in. Totally my style of book.

“Say it again!, he rasps. “What?” A deep thrust of his fingers makes me arch off the bed “Tell me you need me”

Made me reach for book 3 instantly. I want an AX2 now!

“It's no coincidence Jacob landed in your lab darling before he came to you he was working for the revolution”

Highly recommend.

Second episode of the trilogy. Picks up exactly where the first ended.
AX2 has been ordered to find Addie who has been kidnapped and rescue her at all costs. Due to his incredible speed and skill, he attacks the bunker where she is being held and kills all the men holding her, only to find a naked and beaten Addie locked in a room on a filthy mattress. She is totally distraught and tearing at her own flesh. He realizes she has been claimed by one of the Russians he has killed and she will die as well since she has been bonded to him. The only way to save her is to immediately claim her for himself. Torn due to his hatred of her, he hesitates until she orders him to claim her. What a story! And the treachery unfolds. Looking forward to more!

This is book two of three and ends with a twist and cliffhanger you don't see coming. Now that Addie has been saved from her kidnappers and mated to AX2, she must deal with the physical and mental trauma she endured. AX2 still hates her but as her mate is biologically wired to protect her and see to her comfort. We find out AX2's name is Jacob and learn a little more of both hus and Addie's past. As they try to navigate their new reality a shocking twist is revealed. I cannot wait to read the conclusion to their story.

Protector serial part 2: Treachery. Ends on a cliffhanger

I enjoyed the aftermath of Addie’s rescue by AX2. While both had agreed to the action taken at the time, neither took into account the impact that their newly formed mate bond would have on their interactions going forward. The struggles each experienced as they fought their innate Alpha/omega biology were very entertaining, since they contrasted sharply with their previous relationship status and feelings toward the other.

The story is well written with plenty of drama, some twists and several dark themes, along with an Alpha/omega dynamic and explicit, MF sex. I’m looking forward to the conclusion of this dark, enemies-to-lovers, Sci-Fi, Omegaverse serial – Bound.

This second serial installment of the novel Protector had plenty of danger and conflict to keep the reading experience quick and gripping. I cannot wait to find out what happened to the heroine to make her the way she is. The cliffhanger ending was gripping and the betrayal made me gasp. The hero is not only Alpha, but deliciously alpha in the romance novel hero sense, which many Alphas in romance fiction aren’t, disappointingly. The heroine/villain also became more sympathetic in this part. I look forward to reading the third and last part when it releases.
