Jonas Marshall is done storm-chasing, plagued with the memory of a terrible accident that paralyzed a fellow chaser, so the last thing he’s going to do is run into more danger. Now, he’s just a simple weatherman deploying dirigibles in an experiment to track weather patterns in Slovenia.

As far from danger as he can get.

But danger comes knocking in the form of hiker in need of rescue, and he can’t deny that her companion—beautiful Sibba Kovac—is a great distraction from the guilt that haunts him…until she paraglides right out of his life.

Probably for the best.

But danger still won’t leave him alone when a storm knocks his dirigibles out of the sky, and he happens upon one that looks tampered with…

It is. And worse, it’s carrying what could be radioactive waste. At least according to EOD expert Sibba…who finds herself face-to-face with the rescuer she can’t forget. But she’s not looking for him—her grandfather is missing, and she’ll stop at nothing to find him.

When her missing grandfather leads to the threat of a dirty bomb, she’s the only one who can stop it. And Jonas is the only man brave enough to run into danger with her. But she doesn’t have room in her heart to love him—not when she lives with death in her periphery. Can the right man, at the right time help her see beyond her fears to a future?

And if they have a chance to save the world, can Jonas let go of the woman he loves?

The thrilling second book in the epic romantic suspense of the Minnesota Marshalls!

I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.

I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.

Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.

Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.

Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.

Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.

I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.

I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. Susan May Warren is a big favorite of mine and when I hear she has a new series, I am excited. This one is a great addition. Jonas chases storms and finds himself in a storm of a very different kind in this book. He must do some serious trusting to learn the lesson of the storm. Warren can always be counted on to show her readers a powerful spiritual insight along with a great story. I also loved seeing old friends from previous books. My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book.

What an action packed and faith filled story! I loved the way Jonas and Sibba met and her reluctance to immediately trust this American. Yet, even she couldn’t help but be impressed with the way Jonas stepped in and rescued her friend. I loved that even though Jonas wasn’t one of the family members who had military training, he didn’t hesitate to put himself in danger to save others. He proved his love and courage later in the story, as well, with his willingness to do all he could to protect Sibba in a way that was as brave as any Navy SEAL could ever be.

The way Sibba and Jonas connected and the feelings that began to grow between them felt very natural to me, especially considering the situations that they were thrown into. They both had some serious issues to work through in their faith journeys throughout this novel and I appreciated the real struggles that they had to deal with.

Jonas is a great follow up to book one, Fraser, yet I do feel that you could probably pick up Jonas and enjoy it even if you had not read book one. However, reading Fraser first is a great choice if you want to understand the references to what happened in that novel. I am really enjoying this series!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

Jonas follows hot on the heels of Fraser as the Minnesota Marshalls saga continues. Jonas and Sibba are such interesting, unique characters. They both feel responsible for ways things went wrong in their past and the people who got hurt (or died) as a result. The difference today is that Jonas knows God is sovereign, and Sibba still thinks everything is up to her. This book nicely overlaps with Fraser with some well done POV work. It was cute when Jonas was home with his brothers and they all had various casts and bandages, recovering together before whatever comes next with Ned. I'm really loving this family - their heads are on straight, they're grounded, and they're not afraid to tell each other the truth. There's a good mix of suspense and romance for me, it's all totally clean, and Sibba has a really clear moment of repentance and turning to the Lord that I loved.

I read a copy of Jonas provided by the publisher through JustReads Tours, but I wasn't required to leave a positive review. These thoughts are all my own.

This series keeps getting better! I loved the unique occupations of Jonas and Sibba- severe weather chaser and bomb diffuser?! Guaranteed action. I also loved the setting of Slovenia, since it's a new location for me to read about and most especially because my mom and stepdad are currently serving a church mission there! Although now I'm freaked out about the leftover bombs from the wars. Anyhow, we continue with the nonstop adventure, danger, and suspense as Jonas chases down his weather dirigibles and crosses paths with Sibba, joining efforts to prevent more nuclear waste from being deployed in the area. The strong support characters from other books in the author's various series assist with the mission as they follow Jonas and Sibba who lead them to the perpetrators. I loved their chemistry, the way they admire and respect each other, and even though they both have their issues to work through and overcome, their faith emerges to strengthen them in their trials. Some of the story is told from Ned's perspective, providing a lead-in to the next book, which I can't wait to read!

Excuse me but how could it just end like that?? I’m not even talking about the What Happens Next part. We go through bombs exploding, running from Russian Bratva, being abducted, flying all over the world, *more* than one (or three) inter-lapping storylines — and all we get at the end is:

“How did you find me?” “I followed the storm.” *kiss* *the end*

I wanted more closure on their story, but that's just not Susan's style unfortunately. (As I'm writing this review, I just finished up book 4 and it appears there's still not closure. I've been told to wait it out to the end, so fingers crossed.)

As it stands, Jonas's story is my favourite. I loved the characters, the faith (so epically fundamental to the story), the romance between Jonas and Sibba. . . Midwest rugged storm chaser meets beautiful European with a dangerous career. I loved them. It was a great book.

--I"It feels like God should save us from tragedy."
"It does. Yes. From our perspective, always. But while I can't see past one meter, He can. And His purposes and thoughts are much greater than mine. So. . . I trust Him in the storm. In fact, I even run into them. And there, I expect to see Him already at the center."

--"You stay rooted in the middle of a storm - darkness, confusion, chaos - by putting your focus on the One who is stronger than the storm. . . . It doesn't mean you stop fighting. But maybe your fight is to simply trust. . . . Just make sure that you fight the battle God has given you, and not one of your own making."

This was a stormy and explosive story!

God is in the storm. Though the winds blow, and my life feels torn apart, if I can just trust Him, I’ll discover Him at the center.

Sibba was a strong and female lead and I enjoyed how she loved paragliding and anything else adventurous. Her relationship with her grandfather was sweet to see and her backstory heartbreaking.

Jonas was one of those strong males who with navy seal brothers, did not always see his worth and courage, even though he is always the one to run towards a storm.

“Just make sure that you fight the battle God has given you, and not one of your own making.”

I loved all the characters from previous series which made appearances in this book – I am a serial fanatic, so when I can meet up with previous characters I have met and loved, I want to do my happy dance.

If you still need to read the author’s backlist, you will not miss out by reading this story first, but you will meet a lot of interesting characters you would like to go back and read more off.

The author has a talent for bringing spiritual messages through her stories and has again done it masterfully.

I closed with book with one thought: WHEN IS NED COMING!

Are you a fan of Susan May Warren? Her books are among my many favorites. I especially love how she connects characters through different series to sort of keep regular readers updated. Jonas is the second book in the Minnesota Marshalls series and I recognize a character or two from a previous series. If you're a regular reader, I think you will too.

Jonas Marshall is a storm-chaser--although now it is mainly in his spirit. He says he is done chasing storms after a terrible accident happened on a run . .but he is still a weatherman. Only this time he is involved in an experiment tracking dirigibles that gather weather information in Slovenia. It was sort of a safe gig, until he met Sibba Kovac and danger came knocking on both of their doors. Sibba disarms bombs for a living. Jonas weeks Sibba's help to disarm a bomb made from one of the dirigibles after meeting her for the second time on her grandfather's farm. However, their hearts are racing from more than just the excitement of trying to disarm explosives. Can they make a relationship work with the jobs that they have? Can they share a future despite past hurts?

I have to start off by confessing that I have not read Fraser, but I want to. I heartily enjoyed Jonas as a stand-alone--although I admit it probably would have been even better if I had read the first book. At the same time, Jonas is non-stop action and is a beautiful dance of suspense and romance between Jonas and Sibba. I also like that the reader learns about Ned and Shae who are featured in the next book in the series--Ned--which I already have coming, thank goodness, as I already can't wait for it. I especially like the way faith is woven into this book, as it is clearly a part of these characters make up. It is also part of some of the characters' growth as they learn to lean in to a new faith, which may be where some readers are too. I definitely recommend Jonas to those who like Christian romantic suspense books.

Jonas is the second book in the Minnesota Marshalls series. This is definitely one of those series that really does read better when read in order. There are threads of the story that go throughout, with the next story being set up during the current... and frankly, there are just a lot of characters that I think would be hard to keep track of if this were your first introduction. There are also characters from various other series that make appearances, so having that background from those is definitely beneficial, though probably not altogether necessary.

This is by one of my must-read authors and this book is a prime example of why. The stories are quite literally---epic. The adventures are extreme, the characters are larger than life, and the stakes are sky-high. A storm chaser and a woman who diffuses bombs for a living? Like I said, larger than life. And yet, Susan May Warren pulls it off masterfully! I can't help but be drawn into the story, and find myself unable to put it down.

Because I am a big fan, seeing all those familiar characters from previous series is definitely a huge bonus too. Even as one series ends, I know that there's that chance that I'll see them again anyway, and I love just how intertwined they are all.

Overall, this is another fantastic read, and one that fans of epic romance adventures are sure to want to experience for themselves. I'm at the edge of my seat wondering what will happen in the series next.

Gah I am reading this completely out of order and now I need to go back and read the first one so that I have a stronger basis for the storyline but that being said you will pick up very quickly if you made the mistake to not start from the beginning like I did.

This book is all about Jonas a weather man in Europe watching weather patterns. But of course while he is there something happens and the village gets bombed and a dirigible goes missing...

We also meet Sibba, a beautiful mysterious woman who keeps crossing paths with Jonas. She also happens to be a bomb expert.

I can't divulge all the things from this story without giving it away so I will let you know that there is plenty of action, romance, mystery and suspense!! This series is not to be missed... Now I need to read the first one so I can patiently await the next book because it definitely leaves you in a cliffhanger of sorts!

All I can say is, wow! I'm blown away, suffering from a book hangover, which doesn't happen often. This book... it's fast pace, funny, exciting. There are the swoon-worthy heroes that show up and maybe save the day. What I loved most about this book was the vulnerability and... trust between the two main characters. Great book. Now gimme Ned.

I need more!! Can’t wait to read the next one, Ned.
This Minnesota Marshalls series continues to captivate me.

Jonas is a weatherman. (which is Not a typical career, btw) For some reason, he's over in Europe watching weather patterns with dirigibles.
But then...something happens to one of them, and a small village gets dirty-bombed. And another dirigible goes missing...

Jonas has also had an encounter with a beautiful but slightly mysterious Slovenian woman, Sibba. Somehow their paths keep crossing...

And Sibba. Well, I loved reading about her and getting to know her. She's a bomb expert. And she's a pro at keeping people from getting to know her.
These two are an unlikely pair, and yet, somehow....

This story has lots of action. And, because the next book isn't out yet, the story is definitely left hanging...

If you enjoy a fun, romantic, mysterious, action novel, then you won't want to miss this one!

4.5 Stars!

Jonas brought all the danger, suspense, and romance that I expect in Susan May Warren’s novels. The story clipped along at a fast pace, and it was hard to put the book down. I liked Jonas and Sibba together as a couple, partially because they worked so well as a team. Their relationship was fertile ground for the spiritual themes of the story. Warren drove home the idea of finding God in the storm, but also integrated other ideas about forgiveness, choosing to live despite war/danger, and God reaching into the darkness.

Jonas lands as book two in The Minnesota Marshall’s series by Susan May Warren. The Marshall family is a bit larger-than-life, but I like them, especially when they are all together and the family dynamics start playing out. I recommend reading this series sequentially to get to know all the Marshall children. Of the two books available in the series, Jonas is my favorite, but I can’t wait to read Ned’s story in book three! 4.5 Stars!

The adventure continues in Susan May Warren’s new Marshall instalment.

So far I am really enjoying the international settings of the “Minnesota Marshalls”. Fraser’s, Jonas’, and even Ned’s adventures have given me a travel bug.

I appreciated that the characters faith journey took the front seat in this story. Jonas and Sibba, with their own fears and traumas, were relatable and likeable. I did find that I was more invested in Ned’s character arc. I am definitely looking forward reading his story next.

Potential spoiler: The romance plot line was very “insta-love”. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I’m just not a fan of it.

While in Slovenia, weatherman Jonas crosses paths with EOD expert Sibba twice, each time in threatening situations. Together they face intense danger head on and both in need of rescue. They are able to connect with one another as they reconcile with their own guilty pasts that haunt them. The character development was great. ⁣

Anyone who has ever picked up a SMW book will tell you that it is a thrill ride from first page to last. This latest story is no exception and I loved everything about it. Jonas and Sibba are fantastic partners in this race to prevent loss of life from terrorists who have stolen Jonas’ weather gear for nefarious purposes. Each of them carries burdens from their past and I really loved getting to see how those pasts were dealt with by embracing the faith and forgiveness necessary to move forward. Plus, their love journey was wonderful too and the perfect amount of swoony. I’m not giving any other spoilers here because I just can’t ruin the story for anyone but definitely get this book on your TBR because you don’t want to miss this epic adventure.

BREATHE!
You will be telling yourself this while reading this book!
I never thought Susan May Warren could have her characters go through MORE than what she has already done with past books, but this one . . . WOW!
There were so many moments of sheer tension and times of holding my breath to see what would happen.
This author can truly capture her readers in the story and keep them reading until they are finished.
In this book, there are bombs, running-for-your-life moments, wicked storms, crazy extreme sports, suspense, and also, sweet bits of romance. Furthermore, the author has woven into this story the rich love of God.
Susan May Warren is a very gifted writer. One of the things a really appreciate about her writing is that she’s not afraid to speak the truth. She wove sweet life lessons throughout this book.
One of the wonderful things I took away from this story is the lesson that God will never leave me broken or alone. He loves me so much that He’ll take all my broken parts and fuse them together to make something beautiful. Even in the midst of the storms in my life, He is there.
Another thing the author wove into this book, is that we don’t need to be the ones in control. God has got it all in His hands and timing.
WOW! Great things to ponder!
Whatever Ms. Warren writes I’ll read, because I know I’ll be captivated and blessed in a way that is life-changing. She is one of my favorite authors to read and whenever I hear there’s a new book out, I’ll run to buy it!
I highly recommend you pick up this new book. You just might end up like me, waiting on pins and needles for the next book!

A thrilling ride!
When you pick up a Susan May Warren romantic suspense, you expect action, great characters, swoon-worthy romance and high stakes.
Jonas delivers all of that!
I love how different each of the Marshalls are and we see them individually struggle with and overcome something individual to them. Susan May Warren crafts fantastic characters. Period.
Her characters have always felt alive to me but put them in a wild globetrotting adventure. Yeah it's hard to battle the book hangover.
We met Jonas way back in her Montana Rescue series and I love the glimpse into what makes him tick. Though he didn't follow in the Navy Seal footsteps of his older brother, he has his own desire to rescue and help people.
Sibba is such a unique heroine but I think she was paired perfectly with Jonas.
I had never read of a woman with her profession and her story and motivation was so interesting.
There were so many layers to this book and it had me hooked and reading until late in the night to find out what happened. Of course once I was finished I realized that I really really really need the next book.
Sigh. I know I'm greedy.
I can't help it.
This brand of epic romantic adventure is gold!

The Minnesota Marshalls are a lot like their Montana cousins. If you have not read any of those books, I encourage you to read them too. The Marshalls are always in the thick of trouble, but they are not usually the ones initiating the trouble. They just happen to be nearby when trouble comes calling. Jonas is a weatherman but that does not seem to be as safe as he thought it would be. His study of weather patterns has taken him to Slovenia. Why he would go there to study weather patterns is beyond me, except he seems to go wherever the wind blows. But, the weather conditions turn out to be the least of his worries when he learns that someone is playing dirty with his weather dirigibles. A beautiful young lady named Sibba brings this to his attention after she has gotten his attention. Somehow, he is unable to get her out of his mind even though he had no plans to get involved with a woman. The suspense and action are topnotch, and the romance and faith threads are woven into the fabric of the story in such a way that the story flows smoothly without getting sidetracked. I look forward to reading about the other Minnesota Marshalls.

I loved this one. Especially adored the scene where Jonas breaks down (I love a man who can be vulnerable), and his 'grand gesture' at the end (even though it is highly unlikely he could have physically done it given what went down a week before it... and even though I think she needed to be the one to make a gesture). Something must have changed with Susan's editors, though, as I found a surprising number of typos and missed words in the print copy (including the name of the dog just plain wrong a couple times).

I went in to Jonas with my normal expectations of a great story from Susan May Warren and I was not disappointed. In fact, Warren is surpassing my expectations when it comes to the action and slow burn romances. I found myself holding my breath on more than one occasion.

Warren has this way of writing a wonderful series, that consists of novels that can completely standalone but tie in together in the most wonderful way. She writes characters that are real and relatable and this is no different in Jonas and The Minnesota Marshalls. I must say that having Jonas work with weather experiments really gave me Storm Chaser vibes and I was there totally there for it. I loved that this character has such a different field from what I've seen before.

My only "not a real complaint" is the character's names. Jonas is an okay name, but when I hear myself say the name, I think of a child. Then Sibba, in my opinion is not a great name choice. Maybe I'm the only that gets caught up on character names, but I can't help it. Regardless, I don't let that quirk of mine deter me from a fantastic author like Susan May Warren, or from her excitingly adventurous and romantic books.

Jonas
by Susan May Warren
Book 2 in the Minnesota Marshalls series
Rating: 4.5/5

I am loving this series so much! Not only does the author know how to pull at my heartstrings, she knows how to weave an action packed story that keeps me reading and keeps me guessing what will happen next. She also flawlessly weaves in her faith which I really appreciate. Her faith messages are always so encouraging. I love how she is incorporating different cultures into the stories which lends more flavor and texture to her writing. I loved recognizing characters from previous books but this story can be read as a standalone if needed. I highly recommend reading the other books in this series for better continuity.

Highly recommend this fantastic high stakes story of intrigue and romantic suspense! It will NOT disappoint!

As you might expect from a Susan May Warren novel, there’s action and romance that will please any romantic suspense fan. The action/suspense in Jonas never seemed over the top, and it may have changed my perspective on weather balloons forever. The characters were interesting, multi-dimensional, and likable. Action lovers will find plenty of it and several scenes will put you on the edge of your seat. The romance has just enough sizzle without going too far, and there is a good faith message. Jonas has plenty of page turning suspense that will keep you engaged throughout. I received an advance read copy, but the paperback is ordered.

Jonas by Susan May Warren enters into the Marshall world again. This time, this is the Minnesota Marshalls. A couple of characters from the Montana Marshalls make an appearance and some members of Jonas family make an appearance. For the first third of the novel, the story focus on Jonas and his weather experiments and his love interest. Then Warren starts to weave in Ned’s story. More conflict. Her characterization is strong, and she crafts dynamic, brave characters who are not afraid to do what needs to be done. The plot is different because of Jonas being a weatherman. I think, and I could be wrong, that a storm chaser was in a past series of hers. Not many Christian novels with weatherman or storm chasers in them. The plot definitely had many moving parts that kept the readers on their toes. A little bit of World War II bomb issue. Cold War issue. However, my one little issue with the plot is all the terminology to explain the weather balloon that Jonas worked with. At times, my eyes glazed over these parts. Too terminology for me. Overall, Jonas by Susan May Warren will delight readers and capture their imagination.

I was hooked on this series from the start of the first book. Okay, if I’m honest I’ve read the other Marshall series and knew that I’d have to read this one too. I’ve been hooked for a long time. This author is amazing at bringing her characters to life and making her stories flow so that there is never a good stopping point.

If you have not read book one in the series, stop! I mean it! Stop! Don’t read this book first. You should read them in order. Book One starts the story and Book Two continues it. Also, I am slightly upset that I am having to wait on book three as I wanted to start it already. That said, I suppose you could read this as a stand-alone novel. But why would you want to? There is so much extra to be learned and known!

OKAY, I’M DONE.
Jonas follows Jonas who is the brother who chases storms. He lives on the edge. But lately, he won’t allow anyone to get close to him because he thinks he almost caused his friend to die. Now he works alone. Or so he thinks. Until one of his balloons is hijacked and danger starts to follow him everywhere.

Can he figure out who stole his balloon and keep them from getting another and dropping more radioactive waste on innocent civilians? And can he keep Sibba safe? Will they find her grandfather?

Add in a brother with some issues of his own popping in and some not-happily-ever-after moments. It’s going to keep you reading and wanting more!

Award-winning author Susan May Warren continues her contemporary series featuring the Marshall family in Minnesota.

In Jonas, weatherman Jonas Marshall flies weather drones, not looking for adventure, when he ends up rescuing a stranded hiker and her companion Sibba Kovac, an Army explosive ordnance expert. Then Jonas discovers one of his drones has been tampered with, and is now possibly carrying radioactive waste. Can Jonas and Sibba stop the threat of a dirty bomb?

Trusting God in all situations, forgiveness, and love are all part of this storyline. Known for her inspirational novels, Warren’s latest book – Jonas – is filled with realistic, flawed characters and a plot that grabs the reader’s attention from the first page. Readers will be engaged until the final page.

Although a former storm chaser does not seem like the typical Warren hero, Jonas has the courage to run towards danger to help others. Sibba matches him for her bravery and courage. Together they are a remarkable pair, but both face challenges from the past.

Like her other books, Jonas has non-stop adventure, clean romance, suspense, faith journeys, and a teaser for the next book, Ned, coming in June 2023. While Jonas can be read as a standalone, most readers will want to read the first book, Fraser, in the series, to fully appreciate the introduction to the Minnesota Marshall family and the appearance of Warren’s characters from other books.

Recommended for adult collections and high school readers, as well as Susan May Warren fans.

NOTE: Book reviews are my honest opinion of books I either purchased or received free of cost from the publishers, publicists, and/or authors. I am not required to write reviews, nor to even post positive reviews.

4.5 stars!!

Here’s what I learned from this book - if you want to meet a swoony hero who can sweep you off your feet, go get stuck on a mountain so he has to come help you. Then paraglide away like you’ll never see him again. LOL. Just kidding, but what an amazing start to a book don’t you think?

Oh Warren had me from page one and I didn’t stop until I reached the end. Jonas and Sibba had great chemistry, lessons to learn, and a romance to burn. And burn it did! This story is packed with action and danger, leaving readers hanging on the edge of their chairs and probably biting their nails. At least I was! Goodness I just can’t get enough. I mean who knew a weather nerd had what it takes to be a swoony and manly hero!? Jonas was so much more than I expected, all thanks to Warren and her perfectly crafted writing style. I’m pretty sure she could make a septic tank cleaner into a swoony hero.

Sibba and Jonas had wonderful chemistry, not that I expected anything less. And once again her story had just the right amount of tension, faith and romance. I do recommend reading book one in this series first. You probably could get away with not, but trust me when I say you want to - it’s that good. I highly recommend Jonas (and Fraser for that matter). Just get ready to carve out a big chunk of reading time because you’re not going to want to put the book down!

I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Jonas by Susan May Warren is a wild ride! The action is non-stop and there are some serious nail-biting scenes. Yes, again, I stayed up WAY past my bedtime reading this story. Sibba took me a while to like. I have a hard time with unbending, unyielding characters who stay closed off and stubborn for most of a story. That’s Sibba. And while it can be argued that she has good reason to be the way she is, it still doesn’t change the fact that it is hard to relate to a character who chooses not to really share herself. But I did like her. She is one tough cookie, and she is perfect for Jonas. Oh, Jonas. What a cool dude! When I learned that Jonas was a weatherman I envisioned a character like Bill Harding (played by Bill Paxton) from the film Twister. Since that is one of my all-time favorite movies, I was very eager to read Jonas’s story. One of my most favorite aspects to his character is that he constantly says things like, “I’m not brave” or “I’m not a SEAL like my brother, Fraser,” and then he runs head-first into danger. It made me laugh. OK, so maybe he hasn’t had formal military training, but Jonas definitely has the courage and stamina of any trained military figure. He is constantly doing things in this story that would make me shake my head and say to myself, “No, see, I am not brave and I am not like any SEAL. Jonas, you, however, are insane!” It was a lot of fun! And it was quite scary to read. I gasped a couple of times for real because Jonas does crazy things. In addition to the characters, I really appreciate the timely themes discussed in this story. As in Fraser, Warren picks up the topic of trusting God versus trusting self. Jonas believes he puts his trust in God, but does he really? He’s so strong and capable in his own right. But what Jonas comes to understand, and what we should understand, too, is that perhaps instead of running head-first into storms, adventures, a new job, a new house, a new anything, we should take a time out and see if God even wants us to run into these things. As Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us, we must “trust in the Lord with all [our hearts], and lean not on [our] own understanding. In all [our] ways acknowledge Him, and He will make straight [our] paths.” This is a great reminder for us all today — check in with God first before running into the storms of life!

Jonas is a really fun Romantic Suspense that I highly recommend. If you are a fan of Warren’s high-intensity stories filled with timely themes, then you are going to want to grab a copy of this novel ASAP! Side note though — Jonas can easily be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading Fraser first if you haven’ already done so to get the full effect. Characters and storylines from Fraser do appear in Jonas.

I purchased a copy of this novel in eBook form from the author, Susan May Warren, on March 4, 2023, in order to review. In no way has this influenced my review. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
