A comic book writer and erstwhile artist. He has won critical acclaim (including five Eisner Awards) and is one of the most successful writers working in mainstream comics. For over eight years Bendis’s books have consistently sat in the top five best sellers on the nationwide comic and graphic novel sales charts.

Though he started as a writer and artist of independent noir fiction series, he shot to stardom as a writer of Marvel Comics' superhero books, particularly Ultimate Spider-Man.

Bendis first entered the comic world with the "Jinx" line of crime comics in 1995. This line has spawned the graphic novels Goldfish, Fire, Jinx, Torso (with Marc Andreyko), and Total Sell Out. Bendis is writing the film version of Jinx for Universal Pictures with Oscar-winner Charlize Theron attached to star and produce.

Bendis’s other projects include the Harvey, Eisner, and Eagle Award-nominated Powers (with Michael Avon Oeming) originally from Image Comics, now published by Marvel's new creator-owned imprint Icon Comics, and the Hollywood tell-all Fortune and Glory from Oni Press, both of which received an "A" from Entertainment Weekly.

Bendis is one of the premiere architects of Marvel's "Ultimate" line: comics specifically created for the new generation of comic readers. He has written every issue of Ultimate Spider-Man since its best-selling launch, and has also written for Ultimate Fantastic Four and Ultimate X-Men, as well as every issue of Ultimate Marvel Team-Up, Ultimate Origin and Ultimate Six.

Brian is currently helming a renaissance for Marvel’s AVENGERS franchise by writing both New Avengers and Mighty Avengers along with the successful ‘event’ projects House Of M, Secret War, and this summer’s Secret Invasion.

He has also previously done work on Daredevil, Alias, and The Pulse.

Think this might be my favourite of the series so far! So much happened in here. You had X-men, the clone saga, more Wilson Fisk and so much more and it was all told amazingly. Nothing more to say that I haven’t already said in other reviews, can’t wait for the next one.

Alright. So, Ultimate Spider-man is, on the whole, a terrific run on Spidey. But man oh man is the first half of this omnibus weak and bogged down by some mediocre crossovers with the X-men, Morbius, and a really wack storyline with the “Warriors.”

But listen: the Clone Saga is a hoot and a half. What’s more, the follow-up Warriors arc also slaps. By the final issue of this omnibus I was jazzed to be back in the saddle with some quality web slinging action.

I’ve got volume 4, but I’ll hold off for a while before diving back in.

I very much enjoyed this one. It had everything from teamups and crossovers, to the ultimate universe’s take on the clone saga which was pretty out there but a very enjoyable read and an easy page turner.

SPOILER
The breakup with Mj followed by a brief fling with Kitty Pryde was a fun time and the moment Aunt May finds out about Peter’s secret gets extremely emotional. I felt bad for Peter so many times throughout this book with everything on his plate but here are some wholesome, fun moments as well.

(Deadpool was an interesting tale in this though and didn’t really feel like it was necessary to call him Deadpool)

Another great run of USM, other than a weak middle (V16 in the original run).

Hobgobling (72-77). A return to the Osbourne storyline with a rather traumatic encounter with Harry. This cuts so much closer because it's Peter's actual friend. The only thing keeping it from being a 5-star story is the fact that so much of it is brutal fighting, which admittedly is a common future in Bendis' USM run [4+/5].

Dumped (78). A nice character piece highlighting MJ. There's some wonderful moments about what she really wants. But too much of it's about who she is in relation to Peter. (Does it pass the Bechdel test? I suspect not.) [4/5]

Warriors (79-85). Some of Bendis' best arcs are the Mafia-related ones, in this case The Kingpin and Hammerhead. Here we get not only the gritty mob war story but also a great re/intro of so many street-level heroes: Shang Chi, Iron First, Moon Knight, and Black Cat. They're used well, and Bendis scripts a hilariously chaotic fight with EVERYONE which is a great finale to the story. Except we then get a shocker finale that's exactly the sort of surprise that Bendis often offers in stories of this kind. And thank goodness, the MJ/Peter drama from V13 is sidelined. [4+/5]

Kitty (Annual 1). Peter's romance with Kitty Pryde was likely the cutest thing to come out of the Ultimate universe. So charming! [5+/5].

Silver Sable (86-90). This is a delightful arc because it's such a comedy of errors. The head of Roxxon is terrific, and Silver Sable gets an interesting story. It actually loses something when Bendis explains the plot in the last issue, but up until that point it's terrific [4+/5].

Deadpool (91-94). Possibly the most disappointing USM arc to date. Oh, it starts off great with Kitty and Peter having a date/supervillain fight. But then it pretty much becomes a UXM comic with the whole team, and worse than that it becomes a very boring UXM comic with a huge long fight scene. An attempt to give it color with Deadpool monologues and news reports flops because it just makes it duller. And the Ultimate Deadpool is awful, having nothing to do with the original [3/5].

Morbius (95-96). What in the world? The plot of this barely makes sense. Because it's a vampire adventure, but it starts off with Blade fighting the vampires ... but then it's Morbius fighting the vampires. And there's this long, dull black-and-white monologue about vampires. And MJ is still throwing fits. Waagh. [2/5]

Jean (Annual 2). Much of this feels like a rerun of "Warriors". This time we have Spider-Man, Punisher, and Daredevil doing the big fight against someone coming in on Kingpin's territory. But after that repetition it's got a killre ending. Wow. [3+/5].

Ultimate Clone Saga (97-105). Wow. Bendis comes up with a wacky twist on the Clone Saga. He returns multiple characters to us in satisfying ways. He resolves the MJ issues without it being annoying. (Poor Kitty!) He reminds us of the Ultimate military arms race for super heroes. He returns a few more villains of note. He gives us a great new Spider-oOman. Overall, a tremendous anniversary (100th issue) celebration that's one of the best arcs of the run [5/5].

Ultimate Knights (106-110). An excellent conclusion to the Kingpin saga last touched upon in "Warriors". We get great characterization for all of our warriors, particularly Moon Knight and Iron First, plus a satisfying ending to a story that Bendis had been writing for years [5/5].

The Conversation (111). Like the _other_ conversation (by JMS in ASM),, this is a great and touching heart to heart [5/5].

I truly don't think I can put into words how amazing Ultimate Spider-Man is. Just a towering achievement for Marvel and comic books in general.

A lot happens in this omnibus! Hobgoblin shows up and changes the dynamic relationship of Peter and one of his best friends. Peter goes through breakups and get-togethers with MJ and Kitty Pryde. Black Cat becomes a potential romantic suitor until other revelations become clear to her. The school and students are continually under attack by those trying to get their hands on Spider-Man. There’s an odd series of events that takes place with the X-Men on Krakoa. Deadpool shows up and is much different that any other iterations I’ve seen him in and I wasn’t a big fan of that. Vampires, other heroes, crooked cops, and multiple peters really shake things up in this one for a while. Other spider-people show up and things get confusing and interestingly horrifying as they resemble Peter and those close to Peter, which again puts those closest to Peter in harm’s way. And the way this one ends is with more revelations about who Peter being who he is for others and an incredible team-up with Spider-Man, Daredevil, the Punisher, Iron Fist, Moon Knight, and Doctor Strange all to figure out a way to take down Kingpin. I especially enjoyed seeing Daredevil in this book! Like I said, a lot happens here and fortunately for myself, most of this was very enjoyable to read!

Will be super sad to see Mark Bagley not handle the art on this series any more! His artwork evolved into something beautiful along this 111 issue run, will be hard to adapt to the new style but will stick it out to see out Parker’s story, hopefully the new art style will grow on me.

This omni had some absolute insane and brilliant story arcs in it, more specifically the carnage symbiote stuff and the Clone arc which has some of the craziest twists and turns I’ve read in graphic novels, really couldn’t put it down, some slower moments for sure but worth reading for the more significant character building and relationships that blossom throughout. Absolutely love this series and it’s making me really enjoy Spider-Man as a hero outside of the cinematic stuff he has. Can’t believe how quick I have read 3000+ pages of graphic novels recently. Definitely a testament

USM Vol 3
This book is great, I put it on pause for a little bit as I was reading other things but when I picked it back up I blasted through 15 issues to finish it off.

There are some great arcs in this omnibus, including- Silver Sable, Hobgoblin, Marvel Knights and The Clone Saga. Which is probably my favourite arc of any comic I’ve ever read. It’s just great issue after issue. Non stop awesome. This run is seriously special. If you like Spider-Man start from issue one and have a blast.

This volume is important because Bagley leaves the creative team and Stuart Immonen takes over as the lead penciller for the art work. Overall, I liked how Bagley drew the art a bit more but that’s no shade to Immonen since his art is very close. We get the return of Eddie Brock and that’s really nice since he’s such a dick.

Guess what it’s still good 100 issues in this is where we see Mark bagley go but he goes out on a high and this is where the series gets even better better than omnibus 2 when it comes to this run but not better than vol 1

This run just keep getting better and better. I really enjoyed every storyline besides the issues with Morbius, it kind of fell flat for me. My favorite storyline in this omnibus is the Clone Saga with Ultimate Knights being the second favorite. Now waiting for Vol 4 to drop.

Starts slow with the first handful of arcs then picks up around the first and second annual. Clone saga arc was the best of the book and probably top 5 so far from the series.

The only arc I’m not crazy about is Deadpool - but I think it’s a lot better than the Ultimate Six arc from the last omnibus. Pretty much all the other stories are bangers so we’re back to 5 stars

3 1/2 stars for me, but I'll round up. Definitely the weaker of the first 3 volumes. The X-men stuff bogged thos down way too much, although I did like Peter's relationship with Kitty. The clone saga was a mix match. It was good, but not great. The second half of this omni was much better than the first. Hopefully vol. 4 brings this back up to a 5.
