The Book-Lovers' Retreat: the perfect summer getaway

Rate this book
Sometimes a book grabs you by the heart and grows to mean everything to you. That's what Hope Falls is to friends Emily, Rachel and Tori. So, when they get the chance to spend a whole summer at the cottage in Lakeside where the film adaptation was located, they know it is going to be the holiday of a lifetime.

Spending six weeks away will give them a chance to re-evaluate their life choices. For Emily to decide which way her career will go - the safe route, or the more risky creative option? And for Rachel to decide whether to move in with her partner Jeremy. Then Tori has to drop out at the last moment, and her space is offered to another Hope Falls afficionado, Alex.

But when Alex turns out not to be who they expected, the holiday takes an unforeseen turn. And as the summer develops, so does their friendship. Could this be where they uncover their future selves, find love in all its forms and where their lives will change course forever...?

It took me over three weeks to finish this book. Not long, you might say, but it's only because I've skim - read it. Long, you might say, but it's because I didn't have a problem to put this book away and then I didn't feel the need to pick it up again. Yes, in the end I've skim - read it because I had a feeling there is really not much happening. Also, I've never warm to the main character, Emily. I can't count how many times she "shot back" or "snapped" at her friends and it actually really well describes the way she was. So often bad - tempered and in a bad mood, as if everything and everybody should focus on her and dance to her tune. The characters felt so unrealistic and I couldn't care less what's going to happen with them, sadly.

The last 30% of the book were the most interesting, but it was already too late for me to save the book. I expected something different - based on the brilliant title, on the synopsis and the gorgeous cover I hoped for something witty, funny and filled with joy and friendship. I didn't feel any of those things in the story, sadly. It felt superficial, simple, predictable, some of the storylines so meh and so dramatically overdone. The author touches upon some heavier issues, but even this felt wooden.

I'm hoping for the good, old Heidi Swain's book in autumn.

4.5 stars!

This is my first Heidi Swain book and I really enjoyed their writing! If you love Emily Henry books, this could definitely be a book that you may enjoy. The only thing I could be picky on was the fact that I think Em's business popularity was not realistic to what most small businesses' face in reality (from a small business owner). On the other hand, I loved this book hehe! :)

Emily, Rachel and Tori have been looking forward to and planning this time away for years. They are all devoted fans of the book Hope Falls. So a chance to spend the summer in the cottage at Lakeside where the film adaption of the book was set, is a dream holiday.
While there each woman has some decisions to make about her future. When Tori has to drop out at the last minute her place is taken up by Alex, another Hope Falls fan.
That changes the whole dynamics of the holiday, when Alex turns out to be not what the two friends were expecting. The six weeks stay could be life changing in more ways than one for each of them.
I found Emily a tad annoying with her attitude to the changes that take place initially but she won me around after a while, though it did not stop some of those feelings emerging again later. Alex was easily my favourite character. The setting is gorgeous and as well as Emily, Rachel, Tori and Alex, there are some other interesting characters. Shop owner Mrs T is one of them. Connor who runs the hotel is another.
Despite being a tad predictable, and issues with some of the characters at times, I did enjoy this novel. It is about friendship but also there is a romance and about a special book. My first read by this author. Interested to read more from her.

Have you ever desperately wanted a book location to come alive? That’s exactly what happens in The Book Lovers’ Retreat when a group of friends head off to the Lake District to stay where their favourite book was set. And oh I want to do this with The Book Lovers’ Retreat - a book location within a book location! Because it was just simply beautiful.

I have adored Heidi Swain’s books for a long time, her characters, the settings and the situations that she puts them in. Whether it’s a summer read or a festive one, it’s always an escape. But there has always been a connection between the books, they have never been standalone. Until now. And I feel that it’s exactly what we needed from the queen of fiction - a fresh group of characters built up from scratch, to know and love all over again. These characters were also built so well (Emily’s creativity, Rachel’s vulnerability, Alex’s strive to keep a memory alive) that I couldn’t pick a favourite, I loved them all.

If you love the Lake District, Books, Cosy reads, starry skies, strong female bonds and the curveballs (bar men and surprising guests!) then this is the book for you. You won’t regret making The Book Lovers’ Retreat your next escape.

Have you ever loved a book so much that you want to live it? Well that's the premise of this book. Three friends sign up to spend the summer in the Lakes where their favourite book / film adaptation was set. Unfortunately, everything doesn't quite go to plan and Tori is unable to go last minute, so they take on an unknown guest who may not be what they expect.
I really enjoyed this book, the setting just made me want to get in my car and driving to Lakeside and immerse myself in the world. The characters all had decisions to make, but were likeable throughout. The friendship was strong, but not perfect and the love interests - heart eyes.
This is my first Heidi Swain, but it definitely won't be my last.

As a keen fan of Heidi’s books I was really looking forward to this, even though it was a standalone novel I still had the same level of anticipation as when I pick up one of her series books. I have to say that I did keep thinking about some of the characters from Wynbridge etc during the book and wondered if they would pop up but this stopped about a third of the way through once I got properly involved in this new setting.

There was quite a focus on a regency novel which formed the basis of the storyline and the cottage that the girls were staying in, it gave me bridgerton vibes (although I’ve never seen/read that so I could be imagining wildly here). The fact of the lake being so close and the little boat was really cute and it definitely sprang of the countryside and being almost in the middle of nowhere. It also reminded me of that scene in PS I Love You where they’re all on the boat….

I did love their little escapes to the local village with everyone’s favourite shop keeper and Connor, the loveliest pub landlord. It just gave the book the sense of community and really made me feel like there could be visits back to the village in the future if the opportunity ever arose.

There was also romance (of course!) but I’m not going to say too much about it as I think you need to work that one out for yourself!

I felt like this was different to Heidi’s previous books but I still enjoyed it, I think we’ve just got a bit spoilt with Gemma and everyone else - although I can’t wait to return for Christmas again!!!

Review: A book about book lovers set in the lake district? Yes please! Even before I knew the setting of this one I knew it was going to be special. Heidi Swain is an autobuy author for me but I was extra excited about this book because this is her first standalone. Her Wynbridge series and her Nightingale Square series as well as her Wynmouth series all tie in together in some way and so I was excited what she would do with all new characters, a new setting and it doesn’;t hurt that one of those characters was named after me!
I loved getting to meet Emily, Rachel, Tori and Alex. They were all such well-rounded characters in themselves, I really hope we get to hear more from them in the future. I need a spin off to find out what happens next for Tori for sure! Emily is our main character and so we get to find out about her thoughts and feelings about her retreat as things progress and we get to see the other characters through her eyes too. Her best friends are Rachel and Tori and I had a special connection with Rachel because she is a tired teacher just starting her summer holidays. I will admit that I was jealous because it was already summer for her and just Easter holidays for me. Heidi always writes about people who work in education so well and as an educator I always appreciate that!
Tori was a really interesting character for me because I think she is the character who is hardest to empathise with because she comes from money. She reminded me a little of Sophie Kinsella’s Becky Bloomwood because she might like to spend but she always has her friends' best interests at heart. Then the wildcard in the group is Alex. Part of the story is getting to know Alex and finding out how this new person adds to the dynamic and mixes things up with the plot of the book. Now the premise behind this onel, going away for the summer to retrace the steps of a famous book and its movie adaptation might sound a little on the slow side but believe me there is plenty of action in this book, plenty to laugh at and plenty to keep you turning the pages.
The best thing about this book is that it takes our characters out of their routine, out of their comfort zones and places them somewhere with no wifi, somewhere that demands introspection and reflection and what better place to do that than the lake district? I adored the setting. It made for some wild weather, some unpredictable moments and of course some beautiful evernings around a fire with a glass of wine. I defy anyone to pick up this book and not come away wanting to jump right into the pages and snuggle up with their own book or watch a movie under a cosy blanket-such hygge vibes! I loved the story, I loved the characters and most of all I loved the setting. I flew through this latest release from Heidi Swain and I know you’re going to love it too!

Imagine being able to visit the actual place where the adaptation of your favourite book was filmed and, even better, have the chance to live there and relive all your favourite moments. For me, it would be like being able to visit the house used for Barton Cottage where Elinor and Marianne Dashwood lived in Sense & Sensibility. And if Mr Ferrars or Colonel Brandon happened to pop by, so much the better! The three main characters in this book, Emily, Alex, Rachel, are all superfans of the fictional book and film Hope Falls. Being able to stay in the house where it was filmed is a dream come true for them and they have so many plans for their book pilgrimage stay.

Mirroring the story, close friends Emily, Rachel and Tori have booked the house where their fictional heroines lived. At the last minute though Tori is unable to come and the other girls agree that Alex can join them. It’s fair to say that Alex is not what they expect! This changes the dynamic of the holiday and it was so interesting to see how they adapted and got to know each other. The three all had secrets they were keeping and had to learn to trust each other. Quite often, their life reflected that of their beloved story. Like their literary idols, they all had to make big decisions which were really transformative.

I absolutely loved the setting of the Lake District and thought Heidi Swain captured its beauty and ruggedness perfectly. I started reading while I was in the area on holiday and I almost felt like I was living in the book as I followed what the friends did and where they went. I particularly enjoyed the scenes where Emily and Alex were stargazing. We only had one clear night while we were away but in such a dark area, the night sky was indeed amazing and, like them, we saw shooting stars too which was magical.

The Book-Lovers’ Retreat is another fabulous read from Heidi Swain. Great characters in a gorgeous setting and a very engaging story makes for a very satisfying read. And I really, really want to read Hope Falls!

I’d like to thank Tandem Collective for inviting me to take part in this readalong. I love Heidi Swain’s books and always look forward to her latest release.

⭐ Firstly can we talk about the beautiful setting? I have visited the Lake District on a few occasions and Heidi’s setting instantly took me back there. The waterfalls, the lakes and the starry sky were a dream to read. Now I need to find myself a secluded cottage and get the peace and tranquillity for myself.

💖 Our three ladies clearly have a strong bond and represent the ins and outs of female friendships. While I did find Emily a little immature and childish at times, she grew on me. The whole way through I predicted what would happen with each of them and whilst I was right I enjoyed seeing them reach those conclusions.

🪡Emily’s passion and creativity was one of my favourite parts of the story. As a self employed business women I was keen to see her take the step into that world and do something she loved. I want one of her dresses and pictures, the sound simply wonderful.

🧑🏻‍❤️‍💋‍👩🏻Alex was my favourite character. I loved his back story and how he embraced the different adventures they went on. He kept the trip from falling apart at times and was a great support to all three of the women. Obviously his romantic moments with Emily were brilliantly executed I just wish there had been more of them.

This is a great standalone from Heidi Swain, filled with loveable characters and welcoming communities. Now I need Heidi to write Hope Falls because I want to read that book too!

Have you ever watched one of those G rated Hallmark type movies and thought to yourself that they should make that a book instead so you can take four times as long to absorb the story while also being four times as bored? If so, don't walk - run to pick up this boring, boring, book!

Heidi's books are always fab, and this was no exception. Beautiful setting of the Lake District and believable characters.

The main characters stay at the setting of their favourite novel and visit all the places mentioned in the book and shown in the film. After making a pilgrimage to check out where Wuthering Heights was set and written, I could totally understand this. A shared love of a favourite book is a wonderful connection to have with someone.

I love Heidi Swain and whilst I did enjoy this title, it didn’t tick all the usual boxes for me.

The story itself was a lovely premise, and the setting was brought to life in true Swain style. However, I felt it was lacking the feeling of community that I have come to expect from this author. I usually devour these books but I found this one took me longer as I just couldn’t gel with the characters. Considering they were such good friends they were very hostile with each other at times. Particularly main protagonist Emily. She was quick to judge but then quick to apologise, not a character trait I can get on board with.

I think fans and new readers alike will really enjoy this book, especially with summer approaching and the idyllic descriptions of the Lakes.

"The Book Lover's Retreat" by Heidi Swain invites readers on a delightful journey into the world of friendship, romance, and the enchanting power of literature. Set against the backdrop of a retreat where a group of friends gathers to celebrate their shared passion for books, Swain weaves a tale that is as heartwarming as it is captivating.

At the heart of the story is a group of friends, brought together by their mutual love for a beloved book and its film adaptation. Their bond is tested and strengthened as they navigate personal challenges and relationships during their time at the retreat. Swain skillfully crafts each character with depth and nuance, allowing readers to empathize with their struggles and celebrate their triumphs.

One of the most delightful surprises of the book is the unexpected romance that blossoms between the two main protagonists. Against the backdrop of the retreat, their burgeoning relationship adds a layer of sweetness and intrigue to the narrative, keeping readers eagerly turning the pages to see how it unfolds.

While there were moments where I wished for more depth in character development, particularly in exploring the individual arcs of the characters, Swain's storytelling prowess shines through, making "The Book Lover's Retreat" a thoroughly enjoyable read. The enchanting setting of the retreat adds a sense of magic to the story, providing the perfect backdrop for the characters' personal journeys of growth and self-discovery.

Overall, "The Book Lover's Retreat" is a charming and engaging novel that will appeal to readers who enjoy stories of friendship, romance, and the transformative power of literature. I wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a heartwarming escape into the world of books and love.

This isn’t a terrible book, but it’s just packed full of all the things I dislike about books such as these: Miscommunication or a complete lack of communication altogether. Incredible predictability (seriously, if you can’t figure out that , then you’ve probably never read a book before!) Also there is the whole Jeremy storyline which I found overdone and tiresome. Had it been written in a slightly less predictable way, it could have worked, but it was flat and boring here. Also the whole ‘making enough money from handcrafted items to live off overnight’ is soooo unrealistic!
And someone needs to explain to the author that sunscreen blocks the absorption of vitamin D. If she’d just said she wanted to soak up the sun after applying sunscreen, no problem. But if you want to soak up vitamin D, you should do that before applying such (for very short periods of time, because skin cancer is not a fun thing!). sorry, little things like that bug me!

But I love the idea of these people trying to immerse themselves in the world of their favourite book. I mean, if I could afford it, I’d be on the first flight to New Zealand for a stay in Hobbiton!
For people who enjoy predictability in their romances (and I know they are legion), this should work a lot better though.

A lovely, if not predictable, read about a group of friends who book a six week long holiday to stay in the cottage which was used as the setting for their favourite book and movie, Hope Falls.
Em, Rachel and Tori have loved Hope Falls forever and eventually the chance comes up for them to stay in the cottage. Tori has to pull out at the last minute, so they contact the owner to get a replacement so the costs will be covered. They chat to Alex online beforehand so they can get to know 'her' before spending six weeks together.
When they arrive at the cottage, they discover Alex is male, and a good-looking male at that. They all, of course, have come with baggage: Rachel needs to tell Em she is moving out of their flat and in with her controlling boyfriend, Em is thinking about starting her own business making patchwork clothing and Alex is grieving for his sister who was also a Hope Falls fan.
The characters are very likeable and the setting in the Lake District is beautiful. It is a tale of friendship, love and hope and was a really enjoyable read. 4⭐️

sadly a pretty disappointing read

the book started off with a somewhat interesting friendship dynamic between the 3 girls which the author then promptly ditched by leaving one of the girls behind?? which meant the rest of the book felt kinda dull

the pacing in alex and em’s relationship was awful, nothing happened at all until the last 20% of the book where it felt too rushed and meant both characters were written entirely out of character

also so disappointing that a trip hyped up to be a wholesome friend group holiday ended with them not even finishing it together

Having so enjoyed the author’s last book, I went into this one with a few expectations – and although it’s really no way to start a review, I must admit I thought at first that I might be disappointed. It’s the story of three friends – Emily, Rachel and Tori – who are about to live their dream with a six week holiday in the Lakes at the cottage where their favourite book, Hope Falls, was made into the film they’re equally obsessed with. The voice of the story is Emily – and again, I have to say that I found her difficult at first, often short-tempered and abrasive, snappy with her friends. And I was almost glad that Tori was unable to make the trip – I think I liked her even less at the outset – with her place taken by last minute replacement Alex, who they’ve never met before.

But worry not! As the group threw themselves (sometimes quite literally) into the whole experience, their real characters slowly emerged, along with their lives’ complications and the journeys towards their resolution and whatever the future might hold – and I felt for every one of them, laughed and cried with them, enjoyed every wonderful film-based moment they experienced along the way, and really took every one of them to my heart.

The setting is just wonderful – the cottage itself (I might not have the emotional connection to the film that they do, but I’d rather like to stay in that main bedroom too!), the nearby lake, the village of Lakeside a manageable walk away with its friendly pub (and equally friendly landlord, who becomes part of the story) and village shop to cater for all their needs (including many they didn’t know they had). And that wonderful wild waterfall they found after a tip-off, that more than made up for the disappointment of the one used for the film, now rather spoiled by being turned into a tourist attraction.

And each of the friends is at rather a crossroads in their lives. Emily herself has a new job to start on her return, but her true passion is her patchwork creations, clothing and pictures made with materials precious in various ways – she’d love to make it a full-time business, but worries that it wouldn’t pay the bills when Rachel moves out of their flat to live with her controlling boyfriend. In fact, she worries that Rachel might feel she shouldn’t make the move at all – but maybe that might not be such a bad thing. And Alex proves to have quite a back story too – a particularly touching and emotional one, as they struggle to get to a point when they’re ready to move on. And then Tori joins them again – a catalyst for a few big decisions, causing some chaos, but also on a particularly transformative journey of her own.

This was such a beautifully told story, with tears and laughter along the way – filled with love and very real friendship, and with some superb character development as each individual discovers what will truly make them happy. And, after that slightly shaky start, I enjoyed their company every step of the way – I felt I was part of their story, understood entirely the way the book and film became such a big part of their lives (as any book-lover would), and was entirely invested in their hoped for happy endings. A lovely and particularly heart-warming read – and one I’d recommend to all.

This book was pure joy. I have spent my entire Sunday reading it, and it has made my heart soar. I would go as far as saying that this is my favourite book of Heidi’s so far!

Emily, Rachel and Tori are lifelong fans of the book and subsequent film remake, Hope Falls. They’ve been saving for years and years for the chance to holiday in the Lakeside cottage where the film was made, and the time has finally come for them to spend a luxurious six weeks in this idyllic setting. But, when Tori has to drop out last minute, Emily and Rachel find themselves having to agree to spend their six week holiday with stranger Alex. Which they don’t seem to mind too much, although they definitely didn’t expect Alex to be a man!

Emily’s sulking at the beginning of the book did grate on me a bit but I can 100% admit that I would have acted in exactly the same way as she did 🤣🙈 Once they are over the initial shock of Alex’s gender, they commit to making the most of their time at the cottage, and they set about making memories to last a lifetime and re-enacting scenes from the book/film.

It becomes clear that all three of the holidaymakers are fighting inner battles - grief, career anxiety, relationship issues - and they slowly help each other to make life transforming decisions. Tori manages to join the gang towards the end of the holiday, and the drama definitely heats up once she has arrived! But her heart is in the right place and all of her actions lead to very positive consequences. And love might just be in the air for two of our characters!

Heartwarming, charming, perfect escapism, uplifting, inspiring, original, immersive, beautiful - I could go on and on! I would LOVE more from this cast of characters - maybe a little trilogy, a book for Rachel and a book for Tori??? 👀 Also, can I please spend my six weeks holidays at the Hope Falls cottage???

A very heartwarming and enjoyable read. Love that is was set around a book, a holiday for die hard fans of the book in the story, a great storyline.

The story features 3 friends, Em, Rachel and Tori, about to embark on the holiday of a lifetime, spending 6 weeks at a cottage which was the location of their favourite book once it was made into a film, Hope Falls. They have saved for a long time for this holiday and can't wait. The book is written in the voice of the main character, Emily. When Tori suddenly announces due to her Father cutting her off, she cannot go on the holiday and she can't fund it. Her father has completely stopped her spending, took her car from her, the lot. The group are naturally distraught as nobody wants to give up the holiday, and after trying to club together Tori's share in such a short time, they fear nobody can go as Rachel and Em can't afford to pay Tori's share.

When the owner of the cottage told them there was aa waiting list for this holiday, and that she could find a single person to join them on their holiday as long as they are available for the same 6 weeks, the girls allow her to find someone, and this is when she puts them in touch with Alex. After exchanging emails before the departure, the girls think they will get along fine.

Emily wants this holiday to focus on deciding what her career will be, will she continue as she is or will she take her full time hobby to the next level and make it a business. Perhaps both the girls have secrets to be revealed on this holiday.

The story ramps up a lot once they arrive at the cottage and the girls find out that Alex is not infact a female, but rather a male. I won't include any spoilers from here on other than to encourage this book to be read because it was a great story. When you think it will just be another rom com type story, it's not all that straight forward and many events during the holiday lead to bumpy rides and tempers and passion all over! Great read, I loved this.

An absolutely delightful summer read. By Heidi Swain. I love all of Heidi's books and this one is no exception. I always look forward to them coming out. So was eagerly awaiting this one.

We all know that feeling when you love reading and you find a book that completely captures your heart, changes your world and becomes a comfort blanket to you. Well what would you do if you could go and visit that place where the book was written and set. Wouldn't that just be amazing!!

Well that is just what is happened to Emily and Rachel. Who set out on an epic adventure to spend six whole weeks in the cottage where the film adaptation was located. They were planning to go with their friend Tori but then her dad basically grounds a fully grown up woman and she is no longer able to go. It's touch and go if they will be able to afford it. But the place is a bucket list item and everything is weighing on them being able to go and spend time in this cottage. With the cottage being a must do for so many people there is a waiting list so they are able to enlist someone from the list to take toris place. However they are shocked when they discover that Alex is a man and not a woman And things are thrown into a little bit of turmoil. But things always have a way of working out in the end and what was once thought of as a problem could be the best thing to ever happen.

The Book-Lover's Retreat follows three besties, Emily, Rachel and Tori who have finally reached the moment they have all waited for. A vacation to stay at the place where their favourite movie was filmed, based on a book they love. Not only that they get to live in the home where the characters did and experience all the sights.

Unfortunately due to circumstances Tori can no longer attend and so to fill up the space (as they can't cover the whole cost) a single guest on the list ends up joining them.

Emily and Rachel get along with Alex during their emails, but again can't get a moment to video chat or meet in person until the day of the trip.

Upon arrival it's fair to say they're a little surprised to see the woman Alex is actually a man. Just a little assumption making a mistake.

Nevertheless they don't let the slip up affect the trip and end up having a great time. Through the story we get to see each character go on a journey and with the unexpected turns there's a lot of emotions that bubble up.

I enjoyed the story and the premise of it, first being about a book-lover living their dream and second about finding who you truly are and maybe some love along the way.

Thanks Tandem Collective for the book and goodies. I enjoyed reading alongside other readers and hearing everyone's thoughts!

Oh, what a beauty of a book!
A tale of three friends off on a much dreamed-of holiday to the cottage where their favourite book and movie was set and filmed.
Only things are never that simple.
With one dropping out, one in a controlling relationship, and one not knowing where her life is leading, this trip takes on a different meaning.
As I read it, I kept thinking of Mama Mia and how three old friends take a holiday to reminisce about their youth and a similar vacation.
I know these ladies are younger, but Em, Rachel and Tori go on a real personal journey as they navigate this trip of a lifetime. And meeting Alex and Connor along the way makes for an even more interesting ride.
I loved the characters, the setting, and the concept. Heck, I want to go on a holiday like this, too!
I flew through this book and almost wish I hadn't read it so fast!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Simon & Schuster for an ARC.

My actuals, I'm so happy for the girls to be going on this Retreat together that they have to tell us a dropout. I feel sorry for Tory, but I feel like heaven was originally still entitled to go on this trip to find another replacement. Alex is brilliant because that character plays their part in the adventure trip. Eight honest, it sounds like such a lifetime experience the more that I wish I were there. The way you write is that you can imagine yourself in the cottage with these characters. You can see yourself sitting on the deck and having a drink and a meal. I have adored this book so much that it makes you want to travel to the lake district. The way Heidi has the friendship dynamics works and makes you reflect upon your friends and relationships. I love how everything is tied up in the end, and no loose strings are left to keep you guessing. I like how, as a resident of Hope Falls, Connor was integrated into this group and made a connection with them all. A five-star book.

This book was an absolute delight to read from cover to cover. I've read all of Heidi Swains books, and loved each one. Generally they are set in her homeland of Norfolk, but this one kicks the trend, but it didn't make any difference, her writing shone.

The Book-Lovers' Retreat is about three friends who share the love of a book called "Hope Falls", which was later made into a film. They pre-book and save for a couple of years to stay in the cottage featured in the film for six weeks in the summer, planning to watch the film, read passages from the book and just enjoy their retreat at Lakeside. Each friend (Emily, Rachel and Tori), have issues they need to think about and work through while staying at the cottage, but as things turn out, all the best made plans... don't always turn out how you expect them to.

ad-pr - thank you to the author and publisher for a copy of this book!

A book that features people with a love for books - what's not to love? This is a cute, easy read with some lovable characters. I was a bit annoyed with some of the characters initially, but they all go on their own journeys throughout the book.

I love the friendships at the heart of the story, and a trip to celebrate a shared book passion sounds perfect!

It is a little predictable, but sometimes you want that. It would make a great holiday read. I had a lovely time reading this, and it gave me a break from some heavier reads.

Have you ever loved a book so much you want to live in it? That’s exactly what happens in this book. 3 friends are die hard fans of a book + movie and after waiting multiple years they can finally go to the cottage where the movie was filmed. However, a couple of days before the start of their 6 weeks holiday Tori has to drop out at the last moment, and her space is offered to another Hope Falls afficionado, Alex.

Alex turns out not to be the person Emily and Rachel had in mind, as he is a boy. But they quickly all decide this isn’t going to ruin their summer vacation. The three of them came there for different reasons that are discussed fairly quickly in the book, which I honestly loved. The book reads really quickly and I loved all the characters. I also loved the setting of this book and it seemed like the perfect location for a getaway vacation. There is a romance interest in this book, that I’m not going to get into too deep, but sometimes I felt a bit annoyed because I just wanted them to get together already lol. It was clearly that they loved each other, but they didn’t always act like it. They were really cute tho so in the end I was still very happy.

Swain does an excellent job in describing the scenery they’re in, which truly made it feel like I was there myself. I loved the town and the personalities of all of the characters are well thought through. Definitely recommend this book if you’re in the need of a slow-burn romance!
