Sandra fights for survival in a strange place where women are treated like cows, kept pregnant and relentlessly milked. Her only goal is to get her and her unborn child out alive, but that's not going to be so easy. Sandra's fight for survival goes from bad to worse. Can she actually survive the bowery, or is she destined to spend the rest of her life as a human cow for a sadistic group of farmers?
"Wow, just wow! I love Vaughn and extreme. I’ll also take a moment to say that Vaughn has the ability to write amazingly well in several horror sub genres. But he really outdid himself with the extreme in this story (in a time when extreme is the new rage, this is how it should be done)This is brutal and I mean that with all my heart. Truly a story that will stick with you, because of great content, not shock value. Go read this now!" - Crystal Cook, Reviewer
"For absolute sickos. I loved it!" - William Pauley 3, Author of Hearers of the Constant Hum and White Fuzz
"If you love the extreme of the extreme this is a no brainer for you. Same goes if you love reading Matthew Vaughn’s distinct brand of horror. If you’re neither of the above and want to dive into something this ruthless for the first time, just know you’re in steady hands with one of Extreme Horror’s masters. A veteran storyteller that does it like so very few others do." - Steve Stred, Author of Mastodon and Churn the Soil
Matthew Vaughn lives in Shelbyville, Kentucky. He is the father of three little girls and a little boy, yet he and his wife are just big kids too. 2 stars. Sandra is eight months pregnant and wakes up to find herself in a cattle stall on a farm...
She's the newest heifer.. A human cow...
She must crawl around on hands and knees. She must not talk (cows don't talk), she's expected to moo instead...
She is subjected to multiple rapes daily...
Sandra was brought to the farm because she is heavily pregnant and lactating. She's hooked up to a milking machine regularly...
She is fed a bucket of slimy slop daily to make her strong and able to perform her duties...
As livestock on the farm, Sandra's only purpose is to produce milk for profit...
There are other pregnant women in stalls next to hers. They warn Sandra that she'd better stop talking and start mooing...
Trying to introduce herself to the others, she's told that cows don't have names...
Sandra is slowly being transformed into the animal the farmers want her to be, but she has yet to moo for them...
This is an extreme horror story for sure. I've read much more extreme than this one. The story is a lot like TENDER IS THE FLESH by Agustina Bazterrica, but without the cohesive plot and character development. The reader is never told how Sandra came to be there or why the farm was harvesting human milk. A little backstory would have been nice.
I'm not one to pan a story because I didn't like the ending, but this ending was just unsatisfactory to me.
Warning to some readers: Graphic rape and degradation of women make up the majority of this story.
A one-sitting read for me, and possibly the most disturbing fiction I've encountered by Vaughn yet. If you're in the mood for something twisted, you can't go wrong with this one. Highly recommended for fans of extreme horror!
I have loved everything I've ever read by Matt, but this has just leapt to the top of my Matt Vaughn list! Extreme with a capital E, Fucked up with a capital F, Insane with a capital I, and just ASTOUNDING (ALL CAPS!) 🖤 Extreme horror lovers rejoice (and read this now!)
George sets out for another working day on the farm, a day like any other….for him anyway! His main task is to look after the new heifer, to break her in and to milk her. But this is a heifer unlike any other….
Sandra finds herself in an horrific nightmare of a situation. Even your worst nightmares couldn't prepare you for it! Although, she is at least being looked after while she's where she is, being fed and watered regularly, but just what is that she is being fed? She's also pregnant and this shows the strength that women gain to protect their babies, by any means necessary and what they will do to hang onto their precious little souls. I felt real empathy and heartache for Sandra!
Shitheel is one of the farmers, but he's also being abused in a different way, he's kind of used to it, but is getting kind of fed up with it now….
This story starts off hugely messed up and then proceeds to outdo itself with every chapter! Really detailed descriptions, down to the tiniest aspect, make this an experience that's so realistic and vivid you could almost be there! All your senses are triggered in this one, all of them, even ones you didn't know you had! There was a big WOAH!! moment, where my jaw hit the floor, and I NO'd out loud! I was not expecting it to go there….😲
This is one mightily fucked up story, but its also got heart, it was actually quite a mooving story too, in places. The insane depravity reminded me a lot of Ed Lee! I couldn't put this book down, this was a one sitting white knuckle ride for me, and I LOVED IT!!!!
What an epic read! When a pregnant woman finds herself being treated as a cow at a sinister bowery she feels like she'll never escape. The setting was so bleak and hopeless, but when this heifer finds the will to survive it helps propel the farm into chaos. I've never read anything quite like this and it makes me want to immediately read more from this author. The story was fluid, original, and had a few scenes that really made me feel sick to my stomach. Can't wait for more Matthew Vaughn! 5/5 cow skulls 💀
Seemed just like shock horror with no real explanation of the events that transpire nor does it contain any characters with depth. Torture porn for the sake of torture porn. Good concept, extremely poor execution. (Why do they only write books like this at the expense of a woman?)
I think this is the first book I read of this authors but I’ve seen his stuff floating around on social media so decided to him him a go. It was so vile and disgusting that I will definitely be picking up more from him. 5 big mooooooooos 🐮 🐮 🐮 🐮 🐮
What the fuck did I just get myself into and read?? This was one messed up sick grossed out book. Extremely vile, disgusting and brutal, leaving my brain bruised and my body aching.
Hard to stomach at times and keep the gag reflex away!!
Sandra was definitely not going to give up on herself or her unborn son...and she was adamant she was never going to MOO!! 🐄🐮 A short read with a massive impact.
So this is not an easy read, from the get-go you have a heavily pregnant Sandra. On a table being milked, yes you heard me correctly. Milked, tortured, and sexually attacked by two sadistic farmers. No idea how she got there, no idea why they are doing this to her. But we follow this horrorshow of a story by Matthew that is both gripping and gut-wrenchingly disgusting. I have to admit even with a strong stomach this was a bloody hard read. As we feel Sandra's anxiety and fear for her unborn baby. You are rutting for her to keep fighting and to escape this hellish nightmare. Which actually reminds me of a film called the farm, because there are other women there in captivity. Undergoing the same horrific torment, treated like Cows to the point that some have become void of emotion. Accepting that they will live and die as nothing but livestock and it is heartbreaking, to see these women so broken. Just when you think it cannot get any worse, it does for Sandra when her water finally breaks. Now all that is keeping her going is the thought of seeing her baby. This messed up cult of men however has other plans for Sandra after she befriends a young farmer and makes a break for it. This yanks at the heartstrings and just sucks you into Sandra's desperation and depression. This short yet horrible story will keep shocking you right to the bitter end.
I was so stoked to read this book as the premise seemed to overlap a few interesting themes (meat and farming industry, mistreatment of women), and I'm a fan of extreme horror in other media. Wasn't really what I'd hoped for. The book was surface-level-deep, and most of the pages were spent describing different kinds of penis, and different methods of r*pe in a way that seemed gratuitous. The female character had no personality traits to make me root for her, and no realistic trauma responses, which is a shame as I'm a woman who loves seeing a strong female lead in horror. I guess maybe the point of the book was just to experience the horror of it all rather than look for any real plot or meaning? The horror and gore scenes were well written- gnarly stuff that had me feeling queasy- but it's a shame that there wasn't much plot, or any characters with motivations or interests (other than surface level "I r*pe women" or "i have a sh*t fetish") to tie them together. Double the length of the book and add some substance and perhaps the gore could have been better justified in a way that wasn't so self-serving, but for now, I'm left feeling disappointed by it all.
Sandra is stuck at this farm where she is 9 months pregnant. What she comes to realize is that she will be treated like a cow and she better act like one or else she will be beaten or assaulted. The farmers there only want to use them for reproduction and milking. Sandra just wants to escape and get her and her baby out. This story was crazy! This book definitely reminded me of the movie “The Farm”, I’m looking forward to the sequal!
I have no idea how TF to review what I just read… I really feel like the only thing I’m allowed to say after this book is “moo”. 🐮🤠
This book was absolutely foul, depraved and disgusting in the best ways a splatterpunk book could be. I never questioned why Matt was nominated for awards with this book despite having just finally read it, but damn… now I really see why.
Despite only being able to say ✨Moo✨ at the moment, I highly recommend everyone running and reading this asap. 🏃🏻♀️
Sandra, who is currently pregnant and expecting a baby boy, awakens to find herself in an incredibly strange place, isolated from the world, and treated like cattle. Told to moo, to walk on all fours, and milked relentlessly, Sandra's survival hangs in the balance as she questions if she'll ever be able to escape this farm from hell or if she's meant to spend the rest of her life as a human cow.
This story was much more extreme than I expected it to be. I felt a lot of feelings while reading this, but the most prominent feeling was disgust. I was disgusted that men exist in the world that are capable of these things. Disgusted that these women were ripped away from their babies to be treated as nothing more than cattle. And disgusted that there was no true happy ending for Sandra or for her savior, Shitheel.
This one really digs deep at my psyche, and it has stayed with me long since closing its pages. I actually wouldn't mind a sequel to this one either, 🌟 HINT HINT 🌟. I feel as if Sandra has a lot more story to tell and many many more things to say.
Tied up like livestock, Sandra's awakes to unfamiliar surroundings on all fours heavily pregnant. The smells of shit permeates the sickening air. There are other women here, they give her slimy, minced meat, uncooked mixed with blood. She vomits the filth. Sandra is repeatedly raped and told to moo like a cow. Her baby is ripped from her womb, she escapes and finds a extreme morbidly obese women, tubes from her holes being milked. This sick place milks women and treats them like cattle. Babies are minced, Sandra will put her thumb into the orb of one of the sick fsrmer and relentlessly stomp on his dick and balls. She will be placed inside the morbid lady and it will feel like a deprivation tank. This is dark, depraved and raving fucking bonkers.
Dark as a puddle of oil at midnight and absolutely brutal. The Bowery is the bleakest and meanest book Matthew Vaughn has written yet. If you’re a fan of extreme horror or splatterpunk you’ll have a good time with this one.
This was a wild ride at the farm. It is an awesome take on a Hucow romance that had the grossness to back it up. I will be recommending this a lot going forward.
Just finished this and what a ride! The whole concept of this book was insane. It was extremely well written and had me glued to the pages. I was screaming for Sandra. Can't wait to dive into the next one because bruh ..you can't just leave me hanging like that. Absolutely amazing!
This was my first time reading one of Matt's books and I am a fan!
Yeah this was brutal. The beginning reminded me of Utter Udder Exploitation by Elizabeth Bedlam but this was far more vile. I loved the total depravity Matthew gave us. I'm here for more of it.
This tops the most messed up thing I've read so far list .... It's depraved, messed up, and (if you read it, you'll understand) a little touching in places!
If you’ve followed my reviews, you’ll have seen me use this phrase to describe my reading style – “extreme-lite.” I love when things go insane and we get gore and carnage and horribleness, but I need more to it than just that. I need a solid story arc, a beginning, middle and ending and I need to have a character I can root for.
In the Extreme Horror world/Splatterpunk world, one such author that I love to read is my pal, Matthew Vaughn. Vaughn does all of the above in spades and always keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. Just how will our character get out of whatever horrible situation they’ve found themselves in?
Over the weekend, Matthew emailed me a digital copy and said – Hey, here’s my new book, if you’re able, read it when you can! DEAL! DEAL, GOOD SIR! Now, normally I would’ve just read all of this in a single sitting and had a review up and good to go for release date, but alas my lingering head cold and migraine issues prevented that from happening. But I did devour this in two quick sittings and here’s my thoughts! Apologies, Vaughn on this being a day after release!
Just a note – this one has a TON of Trigger Warnings so be aware going in that it might not be your cup of tea.
What I liked: This one wastes no time getting right into the extreme and repulsive. We find Sandra, eight-months pregnant, captured and trussed up naked on a milking table, while some redneck farmers have their way with her. She’s trapped and as they insist she is now a cow to be bred and keep the milk flowing for the Mother Cow, you know you’re in for an insane ride.
If you read that paragraph and were intrigued, I suggest you head over to Godless and pay the $1 because this one is filled to the brim with just utterly extreme moments. Sandra wants to fight for her survival and the survival of her unborn, but she’s continually battered and broken, abused to the utmost that a human can stand.
The ending comes along like a sledge hammer. We get a brief moment of hope that things have taken a solid turn, before Vaughn slams the door shut and we let out an agonized groan of despair.
What I didn’t like: As I mentioned at the start, I like my stories to have a solid and complete story line and I found this one lacked that. We didn’t get any ‘why,’ any reasoning behind why this bowery exists, why they worship the Mother Cow and why it needs to happen and for who. Because of that we’re left with a lot of unanswered questions that were really frustrating.
Why you should buy this: If you frequent Godless and love the extreme of the extreme this is a no brainer for you. Same goes if you love reading Matthew Vaughn’s distinct brand of horror. If you’re neither of the above and want to dive into something this ruthless for the first time, just know you’re in steady hands with one of Extreme Horror’s masters. A veteran storyteller that does it like so very few others do.
Do you want a sick, f-ed up book? Then follow poor pregnant Sandra around as she and other women are treated like filthy cattle, being milked and told to moo by vile farmers. Her only focus is to get her and her unborn baby to safety, but come on, do you really think that's going to happen in the world of extreme horror and Matthews dark imagination? If you're a lover of disgusting, horrid reads full of triggers, then read Bowery!
A unsettling and disgusting read! This book's concept was so unique that it stood out from everything else I've read. The author kept you interested and wanting more. The only complaint I have is that I wish there was more backstory to the farm and its origin.
