I came across this new series by Eve Riley on BookSirens(I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.) This is my first book I’ve read by her and I really enjoyed it and look forward to seeing what she does with the remainder of this series.

We’ve got a hot swoon worthy firefighter (who calls you darlin’ 🥵🥵) and an introverted fire investigator that team up to catch the arsonist responsible for the death of one of their parents and countless other innocent victims. This one gets hot in heavy, in more ways than one, with an unlikely villain that touches two close to home for our fire house men. There’s steam, Murder, arson and a very sweet HEA!

This is book one of the Smokejumpers series and the main characters are firefighter Hawke Colton and fire investigator Tristan Cole. Hawke didn’t join the fire service until he was thirty, which is quite late, but having been brought up in foster care he was looking for ages for a job that he would really enjoy, and he found a family with his fellow firefighters. Tristan became a fire investigator after losing his parents and almost his own life, to an arson attack when he was just twelve, some twenty one years ago. He went through the fire academy at age eighteen, which was difficult with his fear of fire, so he could become an investigator and find who killed his parents. Hawke is settled at his job now after five years and is now wanting more, a husband, a house, kids and more. After his last two year relationship went bad, he has to hope there is still someone out there for him. Tristan is a bit of a loner and lives in a small apartment in a crappy area, not bothered with making a home a home. His work is everything and his living room is full of boards with all the cases he has linked to his parents. After their death, he lived with his grandparents and it was not a childhood with any real friends or even family connecting with him and that has carried through to his current life. When another fire brings with it a dead woman and the same indicators of this arsonist he has been tracking for over a decade, he gets called in and meets Hawke, whose shift were called to the initial fire and spotted the unusual item in the electric box. Tristan asks the firefighters to check for any remains of cameras in any of the rooms, another sign of the same arsonist!

At the end of Hawke’s long twelve hour shift, Tristan is waiting for him outside the station and asks if he could help by putting fresh eyes on his cases. Since it is his day off the next day, he decides to help him then and they go to Tristan’s apartment, the first guest he has ever had! The two are both attracted to each other, but neither knows whether the other is in a relationship or if they are even gay and interested. The next day sees Tristan called in on his day off after a family are killed in a new arson attack, so soon after the last one. Hawke goes with him, knowing one of the firefighters on the tender dealing with the fire, and can ask him to look out for cameras. Tristan can’t seem to get his hands off Hawke and his dreams are as steamy as anything all filled with him. The latest fire may just have the clue they have been waiting for and Tris gets Detective West involved in doing all the police work needed to follow up the clues and get any evidence they need to figure out who the arsonist or arsonists are, since the deadly fires have gone on for so long! I can’t believe how long the book is supposed to be, as it read as if it was at least half the length, as the investigations in the deadly fires just brings you along with the characters. The added romance between the two main characters is just the icing on the cake. But finding evidence that leads to a person can be dangerous, as most arsonists don’t like being caught and would normally burn themselves rather than hand themselves in. Hawke is worried for Tristan and he has every right to as the arsonist sets his eyes on him and all Hawke wants to do is keep his new love safe! A nice read and a great realistic storyline. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

I have read several books by Eve Riley, and this one has been my favorite so far. I loved the chemistry between Hawke and Tristin - made all the better by how much it surprises the both of them. Hawke has just gone through a bad break up of a relationship where he was the "dirty little secret", and is not looking for someone new. Tristin is married to his job as a fire investigator and 100% devoted to catching the arsonist that killed his parents. Then Bam! A near fated attraction that quickly blooms into somthing that goes way beyond the surface and into their hearts.

Hawke's search for a found family is easy to resonate with. Who doesn't want to be somewhere that you fit in, feel cared for, and can depend on those around you? The fact that he sought it out so strenuously til he found it in the firehouse with his first responder brothers is admirable. Him wanting to share that experience of security and peace with Tristin's lost and damaged heart makes him a true hero in my book.

The empathy the characters, and through them - the author, have for the victims and survivors of the arsonists was touching. Speaking as someone who has lost a loved on to fire, I found it very cathartic to see how very much they cared. The scenes of the fires were well described and easy to visualize. I could tell that Ms. Riley had done her research to be as accurate as possible without being too gruesome.

The pacing through the story was great until the very end. The final face off with the firebug fiend felt a bit rushed. How did he know he would be visited by authorities at his house at that time? That he had everything he needed to disable and detain them right on hand seemed a bit convenient to me. But other than that, I truly enjoyed this story and am excited to read more from this new series! (There is a bit of crossover with the author's Federal Protection Agency series, but it's more of an Easter Egg for those who have read that series and this book can stand entirely on it's own without reading the other first.)

*I received a free eARC of this book via BookSirens. This review is entirely my own opinion and is left without compensation. *

This is a great start to Eve Riley's "Smokejumpers" series, although it is lovely to see characters form previous series popping in.

Tristan had been a happy, outgoing child in the arms of a large, loving family……… until he wasn't.

When an arsonist set fire to his home, seriously injuring him and killing both his parents , Tristan's life was to change forever, after a miserable childhood Tristan was determined to find the person who killed his parents and ruined his life, to this end, he became a fire investigator.

Hawk was a firefighter, he didn't hide his homosexuality, it was who he was, Hawk couldn't be more macho, sadly he had just come out of a two year relationship with a police officer who hadn't "come out" but always had an excuse for not dong so, Hawk felt like his dirty secret ?

When good looking but reserved Tristan asked for Hawk's help in trying to find his parents killer and many more arsons all with the same signature, Hawk was only to pleased to agree.

There was an instant chemistry between Hawk and Tristan, Hawk thought that it was too soon to enter another relationship and Tristan was focused on finding a killer but neither of them could deny the attraction.

This is a story of murder, it has fast action, suspense, plenty of heated passion and very likeable characters.

Action-packed M/M romance, first in series of standalones
Bam! This series starts off strong. That’s one thing about Ms. Riley’s books, they always have a strong beginning and rarely slow down from there. This one did not disappoint. It starts with a 12yo Tristan caught in a fire and moves on to his becoming a Fire Investigator to find the person who killed his parents. During his investigation, he finds that this arsonist has continued to operate for the past 21 years! Could there be more than one?
At 33yo, Tristan Cole has worked continuously to uncover the person who scarred him for life, killed his parents and left him alone. When he meets 30yo Hawke Colton a frontline firefighter, they have an immediate connection. Did they know one another in a former life? At this point, I am wondering if Ms. Riley has positioned a wee bit of paranormal into her story. If so, this would be new. It is not belabored fortunately, just hinted that these guys feel so connected and so quickly.
Both men have secrets which they have shared with the other, surprising themselves. Neither of these guys are sharers with other people. Again, the connection is strong. They both had sadness in their upbringing, which makes them characters for whom you will want the best outcome. If you like a nice mix of steam to romance and mystery as well as action, get this book. I am looking forward to the rest of this series. I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through BookSirens.

Hawke (Smokejumpers 1) is a romance with a lot of danger thrown in in the form of an arsonist who has been targeting families for decades. Tristan is a fire investigator and a victim of an arson attack that killed his parents. He has dedicated himself to putting arsonists away for a long time and he has been building a dossier on unsolved arson attacks which have a number of facts in common. No one seems to take it seriously for a number of reasons. The main reason being that no one wants to admit that it has been going on for a long time without anyone other than Tristan taking it seriously.

When Tristan asks Hawke, a firefighter to help him progress is made and it puts them in the arsonist’s sights. Tristan wants to solve the case(s) for his peace of mind as well as getting justice for the victims. When he connects with Hawke on a romantic level he finds he has something else in his life, something he wants more of.

There is a lot going for this story, with a lot of good natured banter going on in the firestation and a lot of obstacles to be overcome. It is not without issues though. There is a lot of replication here. Tristan thinks something. Next chapter Hawke thinks the same thing. A character thinks something then says the same thing. Things are repeated and it can get tiresome.

Ignoring the weak points, this is a good read with character’s issues being dealt with sensitively.

Hawke is Book 1 in the Smokejumpers series by Eve Riley. This is the first book I've read by this author, and I am ready for more of Riley's work and more of the Smokejumpers. I love a good MM romance and this was just wonderful.

For those into other MM authors, this book reminded me so much of an Andrew Grey book (this his multiple Carlisle series, which I absolutely adore).

This is an action packed story filled with a lot of heart and a good dose of romance. The main characters are Hawke Colton (the titular character, a firefighter) and Tristan Cole (an arson investigator). While there romance is going along, there is heaps going on in the background. I really enjoyed how their pasts, especially Tristan's was laid out for the reader. Tristan has emotional scars and physical scars which could break a person. But when Tristan has the chance to finally solve the mystery of the housefire that killed his family, it is Hawke that is there, helping Tristan and falling in love with the man.

The epilogue was just totally wonderful. It was a really nice way to end after the emotional roller coaster from the action of arson investigations, fires and hospital emergencies.

I can't wait for more in this series, I'm curious about all of the guys but Gage has really caught my attention!.

This book, although the start of a new series, is set in the same world as the FPA so I was really excited to jump back in and (hopefully) see a few familiar faces. Hawke and Tristan are both clearly good guys. They want to help others, are dedicated and also had some great chemistry together too. When things actually got going between them then there was a lot of passion and some really sweet bits too. They had good banter and worked well as a team to stop the arsonist causing so much chaos. This is, on the whole, a good book with action, romance and a HEA. The reason I've marked it down is that it felt a bit repetitive (sometimes in the literal sense where things were repeated). From about 30% to around 60% it was quite slow going and I lost a bit of momentum reading it. I think that getting to know more about Hawke got a bit lost due to all the focus being on the arson investigation and so it did come across as more of a mystery than a romance overall.

Despite these things, I do think it was a good book with lots of positives. I'm interested to see who will get their story next as there seemed to be a few secondary characters set up for it. If you like crime/mystery stories with a bit of romance between MCs then give it a try.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Twenty one years ago, Tristan’s parents died in an arson fire, and he has never let it go. Now he is a fire investigator, focusing on gathering evidence of more than 30 fires with the same signature, to the exclusion of any kind of personal life, and he will not give up until he finds the arsonist. Hawke is a firefighter, a man haunted by a past growing up in the foster system, dreaming of a home, a man, and a family of his own. When the two meet at a fire and Hawke agrees to help Tristan on his quest, both men feel an instant connection, a sense of knowing each other though they have never met before, and a pull they cannot resist. As they sift through reports and evidence, looking for more clues to close in on the arsonist, danger is part of the equation. Will the arsonist injure one or both of them in his desperation to not be caught, or will Tristan and Hawke catch their nemesis and reach their HEA?

This book loosely ties into Eve Riley’s Federal Protection Agency series with the location and a couple of crossover characters. Hawke and Tristan are compelling characters, totally focused on catching the arsonist amid twists and turns and unexpected connections to their own colleagues. Fast paced story draws the reader into the hunt and satisfactory conclusion.

Finding Peace . . .

Firefighter Hawke Colton and Fire Investigator Tristan Cole meet on the job and are drawn into a common interest in searching for an arsonist who appears to still be setting lethal fires. For Tristan, this is personal. He lost his parents 21 years ago to this specific arsonist. And the latests fires would indicate the work of a serial arsonist whose style Tristan remembers well.

Hawke has always wanted a family of his own and all the trimmings -- spouse, children, a dog, and a home filled with love. When he and Tristan start working together, their relationship is comfortable as they join together to go through past files that may lead them to the arsonist who seems to have no intention of stopping. But when Tristan is targeted, will Hawke be able to protect him? Will they be able to take their target down before Tristan once more loses everything, including his own life? When they begin to unravel details, will they put themselves in deeper danger with the killer being able to get inside information? And if they are guessing correctly that two arsonists may be working together, a mentor and mentee, they will have to be even more careful that they don’t get blindsided before they identify their enemies. Or are they already a step too late?

This book was a great start for the new Smokejumpers series by Eve Riley. If you enjoyed her “Federal Protection” series, you’ll enjoy this new series. The new theme is Firefighting. I’ve really enjoyed reading this book! It’s a fire thriller and one has to figure out who the villain is. I had to keep on reading til I get to the end to find out who! I look forward to more books in the series! Definitely 5 stars reading from me!

The story starts with Tristan, a fire investigator who happened to lose his parents in a house fire set by an arsonist. He was an only child and losing his parents was pretty traumatic for him. He vowed to find out who set the fire. Becoming a fire investigator was a personal agenda of his. After becoming an investigator, he started noticing the same pattern set by an arsonist and he connected it to his house fire. He decided to sough out some assistance after his supervisor told him to stop doing this on the side. The guy he sought was Hawke, one of the firefighters who had fought blazes which were intentionally started by an “arsonist”. Hawke was more than willing to help him figure out the culprit. That’s where it gets intense. I’ll stop right here and have you pick up the book and read to find out what happened!

Firefighter Hawke Colton loves his job and hanging out with his friends. However, he wants more in life like a husband, kids, a house and a dog. Fire Investigator Tristan Cole lost his parents in a fire started by an arsonist twenty-one years ago. He has dedicated his life since then to putting arsonists away and so when a family is killed in a suspicious fire he can see that it is the same signature as the arsonist that killed his family. He asks Hawke for help to comb through old files with him to help prove it is the same arsonist. When the arsonist sets his sights on Tristan, can Hawke find a way to keep his new love safe?

I enjoyed this story with the link of the fire when Hawke was a child and the ones later on, the sick satisfaction the arsonist got from them and the growing relationship between the two men. It was good to pick up some details on how their jobs worked and how they were able to fit everything around them. The mystery of the identity of the arsonist and the way it was carried over such a long time was interesting and I loved the link back to the Federal Protection Agency for the investigation. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

My Review
I received a copy of this book from Book Sirens. Book is out today. Trigger Warnings for this book are as follows: Death, Abuse, Suicide, Sex, Profanity, and Violence.
I’m back with another book by Eve Riley called Hawke, which is the first book in a new series called Smokejumpers.
If you’ve read my other reviews, you know how much I love this author and have enjoyed nearly all the books I have had the pleasure of reading. Hawke is another book I’m going to add to the list of books I’ve enjoyed. This book was so sweet and steamy. Tristan and Hawke were made for each other! One of the things I really loved about this book was how Tristan’s trauma was handled. What he went through at the beginning of the book was horrible and yes, it changed and shaped him into who he was as a man, but it wasn’t something constantly harped on. I loved that Hawke didn’t pity or belittle Tristan. Instead, he found him courageous, admirable, and he listened and believed him when most people didn’t. Seeing Tristan, who usually was a loner, open up to Hawke was sweet. I truly enjoyed this book so much, I’ve reread it a few times now.
Until next time, peace and happy reading!

What a brilliant read
I’ve got to say I’ve got totally lost in this book and just couldn’t put it down.
The story is about a firefighter hawk Colton he love what he does. He just wants to find a man that he loses himself in and hopefully one day will have a family. This is when he meets fire investigator Tristan Cole. He is investigating a series of fires that he believes to be arson and by the same person. you see Tristan nearly died in a fire. He was left with scars, but the biggest scar was losing both his parents in that fire. When Tristan and Hawke start to put their heads together to find the arsonist it also comes apparent that these two are attracted to one another. Will they both make it out of this case?
Absolutely brilliant I could not put this down. I thoroughly liked Hawke and Tristan their chemistry was off the charts. It was insane. They rarely managed to keep their hands off each other. I could re-read this book right now and finish with the biggest smile on my face great read.

********** Contains Spoilers**********

I really enjoyed this book and thought that it was a good start to the Smokejumpers Series. This book covers some heavy topics so please take note of the trigger warnings. Man, my heart hurt for everything Tristan has been through and the reason he not only became a fire investigator in the first place but the reason he’s so anti-social. I’m so glad that he just needed Hawke to see him but not pity him. I thought that Tristan and Hawke were great together and make an awesome team, professionally and personally. I think Tristan’s family massively let him down.

Yes, his grandparents housed him but that was an extent of it. I know that they also suffered a loss and Tristan was a reminder of that, but I still I think they’re complete a*seholes. Don’t even get me started on Hawke’s ex boyfriend. I’m glad that Hawke found his family after becoming a fire fighter. He spent his whole life is foster care/group homes before he aged out at 18 years old. I’m looking forward to reading Cyrus next, as well as more books from Evie Riley in the future. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.

This is a mystery, a thriller and a hot romance all enveloped in a single stimulating story. The plot was very engaging, with suspense and intrigue exploring the life of a Fire Investigator and the mind set of an arsonist. A wonderful plot along with the great character development and I was made to care for the characters in the story almost immediately. The book was extremely engaging and I devoured the pages in short order – I honestly did not put the book down until I had read the last chapter! Tristan is a dogged Fire Investigator, survivor of an arsonist fire that killed his family and haunted by the one mystery he can’t solve. The signature of the arsonist reappears and he enlists the help of Firefighter Hawke to unravel the clues. They both have a difficult past and different demons, however find support and romance with each other.

Good start to a new series. I look forward to future additions to this series! I was provided a copy of this book by the author, and am leaving this review that reflects my opinion of the book voluntarily.

STUNNING NEW SERIES!

This is the second series I am reading by this author and I am not disappointed!

A spin-off from the Federal Protection Agency with Captain Clark- Noah’s boyfriend at the helm with his amazing team of firefighters of Station House 21!

First up we have gorgeous Hawke Colton who meets his missing piece- Tristan Cole- Fire Investigator, while investigating an Arson case together…

“once again he felt familiar.”
“my whole body was reacting to him like I had known him my whole life.”
“soul mates”

Both men are orphans in need of a family of their own to feel whole but there’s a big obstacle in their way- a 21 year Arson cold case- Tristan’s parents.
murder.

He refuses to carry on with his life until their killer is found and this is where Hawke comes in handy as his name states he is very observant and keen how are you…

This is their journey filled with lots of smoke and steam and cunning arsonists!

I absolutely loved the start of this series and look forward to more!

4.5 Stars: I very much enjoyed reading this one as it blended mystery and romance, which are my two favorite genres. It had a lot going for it, including sympathetic characters, a great connection with lots of steam, an intriguing mystery fraught with danger and a satisfying ending all around.

It did get slightly repetitive at times, not to the point of dragging down the story, but it lagged a little here and there. Also I felt that what we learned about Hawke's backstory was a bit wasted as there was much more emphasis on Tristan. Hawke's story fell by the wayside a bit which is too bad as it had a ton of potential.

The mystery was well done and made for some really tense scenes. The author is good at being descriptive, so you feel like you are really there. The same goes for emotional scenes, she captures the mood well.

Overall a good read if you like MM romance or suspense style mystery.

Hawke is a firefighter that wants nothing more than to find a husband and settle down with a white picket fence. Tristan lives to find the person that set the fire that killed his parents and left him scarred. Tristan lives with nightmares of that night and knowing that no one sticks around. After years of being left by the only family he had left he doesn't need or want a relationship. What starts as a collaboration to find the arsonist that has set a fire that resulted in the death of a family, soon turns to more. But the signature of the latest fire is the same as the one from Tristan's past, he can't allow himself to be distracted by Hawke, right? Read along to find out how they help each other and possibly catch a killer.

Tristan suffered a devastating loss when he was a child. His parents were killed in a house fire and Tristan almost died too. Finding the arsonist became his priority when he became a fire investigator. For 21 years, he’s studied files and found similar patterns in many fires.

Hawke is an out and proud firefighter. He was raised in the foster system, never had a family. But he found his family in his fellow firefighters. They always had his back.

Both men are brought together when there’s a fire that kills three and has the signs of being done by the same arsonist that harmed so many. The attraction becomes too much for them to avoid and the heat from their fire almost consumes them. Great story! I really enjoyed reading it. Looking forward to book two and another book by Eve Riley.

Hawke is a firefighter and he really wants a family of his own. He thinks he might find that with Tristan. Tristan just want to keep the world safe from arsonists. Maybe he can find more than that with Hawke.

This was a fairly sad story. Tristan’s past was heartbreaking. He tortured himself on a daily basis trying to figure out who the arsonist was that basically destroyed his life. Hawke had a sad story also but he didn’t wallow like Tristan. Their romance was sweet. Giving both men a chance to begin new lives separate from the past.

The mystery was revealed and the story concluded rather fast after that I thought, but didn’t diminish the impact.

This author creates characters brimming with emotion. I will always pick up and read her books.

21 years ago Tristan barely got out of a fire alive but parents were killed so he decided that he would become a fire investigator and got a copy of his parents fire. Saw too many fires that were started the same way and had the same cameras installed then asked Hawke if he could look at the files see if he had missed something. Started with the pattern and fighting fires noticed that they were the same but then he got sloppy and used a new camera got the store name, got the surveillance tapes and found him. When the detective and Tristan went to confront him and the original arsonist was there too, tied them up and a fire was started around them the first arsonist was killed as the other tried to get away was caught. Tristan and the detective were taken to the hospital. Good book!

Hawke is approached by Tristan to help with a case he is working on.
Fire Investigator Tristan Cole was injured when he was twelve in a house fire that killed his parents and that it was arson has detemined his career choice. He continues to hunt the arsonist as the case involving the same method has now become many with a large number of people. At the most recent site he meets Firefighter Hawke Colton and on asking around is told he is very good at spotting thing that are not right. Tristan approaches him with a request that he look at the cases and see if his fresh view finds something Tristan had missed.

I loved Hawke (Smokejumpers Book 1). Tristan is on a mission to prove a series of fires are related and he needs help, Hawke agrees to help him and they begin an investigation but also a romance. Hawke is drawn to Tristan almost like they already knew each other. Tristan has been alone for so long it’s foreign to crave Hawke. I loved this storyline and the characters. Tristan is lonely even if he won’t admit it while Hawke is gun shy after a bad relationship. Throw in some suspense and you have a great story with intrigue and a great romance. I would definitely recommend this book and I’m looking forward to reading more in the series.

Exciting foundation for a new series. Hawke, wants what he never had a family, kids a home and stability. For now, he's happy with his job as a firefighter and his fellow firefighter brothers. Tristan, lost his parents to an arsonist and has dedicated his life to finding justice for victims of arsonists as a fire investigator. Tristan senses a pattern in a few fires and teams with Hawke to find justice for victims in suspicious arsons. They get to know each other better and the future looks hopeful. Then the arsonist decides he'd like Tristan to be his next victim. There are complications and questions. A few twists and a little adventure provide some answers. Great story, lots of surprises. Very well done. Nice cover art. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a good book and a great start to the author’s new series. I really enjoyed the story which is well written with fabulous characters, including secondary characters who appear from the Federal Protection Agency series. It’s an interesting and intriguing read that keeps the pages turning. From the beginning, the story draws you in. It’s an insta attraction romance and the intense passion between the two main characters is super hot as I have come to expect from Ms Riley!

There are dark themes within this book so please read with caution. However, I loved Hawke and Tristan’s story and look forward to reading further instalments in this series.

I am not sure that arson and romance go well together. I enjoyed the connection between the two MCs and the idea that their instalove was because their souls were together in a previous life, brought back together by their jobs. But the constant descriptions of fire and death kinda took the shine out of it for me. The arson story on its own was not a bad mystery/action story though.

The book needs a serious edit as well, to clean up awkward passages like this one: “Twelve-hour shifts weren’t easy. I had gotten used to them, but sometimes there was no getting used to the long shifts.”

I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
