When you have secrets that could cost a life, how far would you go to keep them?
When Daniel became Dennovan, he knew what he wanted: to be remembered as a hero. But after Rockslide’s rescue leaves the heroes understaffed and Trueshot quits, Dennovan is forced to realize he’s the reason his hero group is a member short. As he struggles with the knowledge that his personality is more proud and abrasive than he thought, he decides to uphold a promise he made in the past to a girl with more secrets he would have ever imagined.
When demons invade the undercity and the heroes are overwhelmed, Dennovan is forced to choose a side. Is he Daniel, the Upper City boy who doesn’t take risks and trusts too easily, or is he Dennovan, the hero who puts his fear aside to save the ones he cares about, even if he thinks they’re Narcs?
Can he put aside his nagging suspicions and place his trust in an ally he doesn’t know as well as he thought? Or will his mistakes cost him a life he isn’t willing to pay… that was never his to risk?
Nothing like a teenage girl with confidence and skills Tia’s got some game, gurl! And she even gets a wee bit of encouragement from a rival. I do wonder, though, if Tia’s interest in the stars is about the technology to get there or her desire to rise out of the undercity. Perhaps both…what do you think?
Some sage advice from the author: Never tick off a technopath. Even caregivers need self-care. Don’t cheat – otherwise, you won’t know if you actually won.
Sometimes, you just gotta go it alone. But I wouldn’t suggest doing so during a demonic invasion. That’s the time to go get friends. Lots of them. With a variety of talents and skills to pool together… Even if ‘I Don’t Like You’, I’ll work with you to save humanity.
Always be mindful that murderers can be heroes and heroes can be murderers.
Next is a short about ‘Angel and Anna’ then ‘Aftermath’ (expected end of August).
I read it yesterday in one sitting (I stayed up until 2 am to do it) and it was so good I'm going to read it again over the weekend. This series gets better and better. If I could give this book 6 stars I would. I'm not going to go through the plot and spoil it for you I'll just say that you'll love Tia and her thorny personality; you'll grow to respect and even like Daniel/Dennovan, despite his hangups and you'll admire them both for their grit and determination in spite of everything being stacked against them as individuals. If, like me, you're a hopeful romantic, you'll hope for them. 'Nuff said. If you like this genre you'll love this book. It is so well put together and superbly written. It's one of those books I shall read several times. Read it and enjoy.
While this book could be read as a stand alone, it will make more sense if read after the first two books. It is very action packed, with lots of plot twists, and a couple plot lines beginning to come together for the characters. Daniel and Tia finally get together for that hoverboard race. The world building is amazing, and the characters personalities are very well developed. Each of this author’s books is a little better than the last. This is a book you won’t want to put down, and if you are like me, it will leave you eagerly awaiting the next one. A big thank you to the author for providing an ARC copy for me to help proof and review.
The story gets better and better. I started reading the series beginning with the prequels which introduced me to some of the characters and found I wanted to know more. Since getting drawn into this world and the people in it and the fights they had to do just to live ( absolutely gruesome) I was hooked. A breathtakingly storyline, fantastically detailed characters are the work of this immensely talented story teller, also known as author. I can only recommend this series to anyone regardless of age. Absolutely beautifully written.
This book is a great continuation of the story but we get to see things from Daniel's eyes. It was fun seeing the character behind his hero mask and poor Daniel still has a lot to learn about keeping secrets. It was entertaining to see all the problems he creates for himself and it makes me like the guy even more. I'm exited to read the next one and see what happens next!
