Since freeing our elemental powers, my siblings and I have been attacked, threatened, heckled, and told our entire life has been a massive magical cover-up.
We are orphans of the decimated elemental kingdoms of the Fae Realm.
The learning curve of our new lives has been butt-kickingly steep and all the things I thought I knew for sure…I didn’t.
Seelie warriors, amorous trolls, hellhounds, and a hunky fire guy with too many secrets.
How’s a girl to find her footing?
When push comes to shove, the Quebec Quint is greater than the sum of its parts. With the support of powerful friends, devoted family, and the cops that have always had my six, we lock in to right the wrongs of our world and make Montreal safe again.
About Auburn Tempest Auburn Tempest is a pen name for JL Madore, a multi-genre novelist giving life to Fantasy, Paranormal, and Sci-Fi Romance. Under the pen name, Auburn Tempest, she writes Urban Fantasy without the sexy-steamy. But whether Romance or not, she loves to twist Alpha heroes and kick-ass heroines into chaotic, hilarious, fast-paced, magical situations and make them really work for their happy endings.
She lives outside of Toronto, Canada with her love of over 35 years and a menagerie of family, friends, and animals.
Auburn Tempest has a way with emotions that just washes you away like a river in flood, only without all the destruction and drowning.
This has only gradually materialized in this world she and Michael have created, however. I imagine that the slow evolution (maturation, some might say) of her writing is because writing urban fantasy under the Auburn Tempest pen name must be very different from writing steamy gothics as JL Madore.
However, whatever you might think about gothics or steamy romance, it is an undeniable fact that it takes great talent to use words to both paint as well as sway emotion. Talent is something Auburn has in spades!
When they first started writing this universe, her stories were much like those of any other fledgling author with amazing talent. By this I mean that they tended to be more “simple,” focused on either a character or a plot thread. As I’ve read her offerings under the Tempest pen name, I’ve watched her work develop from “simple” to a depth reminiscent of the oceans or space, itself. In large part, I believe that as she’s grown more comfortable, she’s gradually integrated the various skills and talents she originally developed as JL Madore with her newer talents and skills.
These stories have such an overwhelming emotional resonance that you must simply read it to believe it. So go do that now… lol.
Jules has learned a lot and saving a four year old from a fire starts a new path
Jules is a fire element her adopted family make up the water, air, and earth elements. She is also a cop. Loves being a cop but is having trouble with the restrictions of being a human cop when what is needed now is something more. Like when she ran into the fire to save a four year old. This starts a cascade of events that bring her wishes for more to be brought right up front. The Seely have invaded our world and have no thought of how wrong it is. It is up to her to face them and set things right. Even if it shows her that Gareth is a demon. Now there is another thing to face. How can she bring it all together to help her world.
This is a quite decent instalment in the series. Not more than three out of five stars but that still makes it an enjoyable book.
In my opinion it is very much a variation of the Chronicles of an Urban Druid series. I very much enjoyed that series so that is really a good thing. Unfortunately, again in my opinion, it is not, yet, as good as that series.
One thing that I am missing is the colorful and charismatic family of the main protagonist in Chronicles of an Urban druid. Also, the main protagonist feels less competent and more like a immature teenager fumbling around. Maybe this is intentional but for me it is not a good choice.
Of course there is the obligatory urban fantasy romantic attraction element in the series and it is the usual on-off rubbish that I could be without. Especially this nonsense where the main protagonist gets all upset when she discovers what magical her maybe boyfriend is. Like that suddenly changed his personality and everything he has done for her.
I could also be without this rubbish with the anti-fae sentiments. It is just a cheap way of trying to get some form of “racism” angle into the book to please those who just have to have some social messaging in everything.
Still, it is a decent enough little urban fantasy novel. Overall the characters are quite likable and there are of course plenty of urban fantasy action. It is has enough in it for me to want to see where the story goes and how the main character develops. For me, this instalment was good enough that I will continue the series.
The Quebec Quintet is back again! I enjoyed this book as it gave Jules the direction that we all knew was coming for her. Leading a team similar to our favorite urban druid and saving the lives of both human and fae on a daily basis. I will say though I want more info on her siblings' powers and abilities. As much of a pyro as I am I would love to see Zephyr powers more.
Also, we need to get this girl some fireproof clothing for the love of all of Montreal. This is book three and she is still doing her “walk of shame” through the streets every time she goes bonfire.
It was great to see a bit more play on Jules’ skills working with a team and her to acknowledge it is what she needs to work on most in her life. I loved this case with a missing mother and a surprise changeling daughter. I really hope we see them again later on and see how the “host mother” as the Seelie called her, has whipped the fae princes into shape and helped raise their next queen.
I totally saw the entire Gareth being one of the six coming, but I also know he's got something going for him if he doesn't need to feed on the elementals at his disposal. I can’t wait to see what they discover next.
Her new involvement and knowledge of the awakened community has Montreal cop Jules Gagne being transferred to a new Fae Liaison Task Force, but she’s not a team player. After rescuing a young girl from a fire, Jules sets out to find the girl’s missing mother and finds herself involved in a fae custody battle.
I love that each of the Gagne’s have a rejuvenation station. I think I’d like the pool best. I was curious and looked up how to make lava and found some interesting videos.
Fave scenes: Jule’s connection with the little girl after rescuing her, Onyx joining Jules & Gareth on the sofa, the fight in the mall and Jules & Thaymire rescuing each other.
Jules and her friends, family and colleagues continue to work to keep Montreal safe, when a sudden invasion of Fae warriors burst onto the scene.
If that wasn't enough, a woman who works at a club owned by one of the Poroskoro is kidnapped and she has to deal with him personally. Startling facts come to light which could shatter her dreams.
I was prepared to be underwhelmed by this book (and the series in general) but I now think that they’ve found the right threads to pull this together and bring it into its own. The main characters have gotten a solid foundation and are showing their individual strengths and weaknesses. Newer characters are establishing their place. As I said, I was unsure about this series in general but glad I continued to give it a chance. Looking forward to the next book and the rest of the series.
Everything Jules once loved about her life seems to be turned on its head. She isn't working well with her new squad and, although the second sight is on the downslope, the anti fae sentiment is still strong. Can she still protect the humans when they are turning against her?
Jules is a busy cop in this story. Fighting trolls, saving a child in a burning building, and dealing with anti-fae bigots is just the tip of the iceberg.
Lots of action, witty dialog, tense situations, and new opportunities abound.
Jules winds up rescuing a child from a fire, finds out the mom is missing, and it's off on a new action filled adventure. I love this series and every series by Auburn Tempest. The family dynamics and storylines make me want to finish the books in one sitting, and I am always looking forward to her next one.
If anything they just keep getting better. If you don't read this book you will be missing out. If the books you like are action and fantasy driven with strong females and males leading you down a path with surprises along the way this one is definitely worth reading.
An extremely entertaining and enjoyable series, definitely five stars!!!!!
Congratulations to Auburn Tempest and Michael Anderle for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such interesting and e,xciting authors who not only write intelligently but also provide top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories.
Loved the story Loved the action Knew the “big reveal” due to your description of a group in the last book Still it is a good one Who is good and who is bad is often obvious if all actions are known It is the private face that often is unknown to the world Great story! Thank you
I enjoyed this very much and am happy to finally have my suspicions confirmed. The new direction for Jules career-wise was inevitable and I can't wait to see how her team gets built and evolves. Cannot get enough of this writing duo!
Love these books. So much going on I can’t turn the pages fast enough. But then I’m disappointed when I finish. I will read it again to savour it. Do yourself a favour, read it.
I've read all six Urban Druid books and I'm looking forward to the seventh. I love how the characters are interwoven between your Druids and elemental books!! I'm now looking forward to book three of the Urban Elemental series.
One of the best UF authors out there! These stories are always the perfect mix of character development, action, mystery and humour. Never anything but perfect pacing, editing and world building.
This book confirms that this is another excellent series from the joint pens of Michael Anderle and Auburn Tempest. It has built on the foundations of the Urban Druid series and is expanding nicely. I am really looking forward to the next book.
I've read all the Auburn Tempest books I can find. The characters are interesting and complex. When good characters are put in great stories, as is accomplished in this book, they are a joy to read. Please keep writing books. I can't wait to read more.
This was a great story. Had some fun twists and amazing character growth. I enjoyed every page and I can't wait to see where Jules and her family go from here.
I thoroughly enjoyed this next installment, along with the crow of delight when I confirmed my theory of who one of those characters really is. Sorry, no spoilers, you'll have to read it to see the reveal yourselves. Love your style Ms Tempest 😍
Great world building & character development. I don’t have the same love for the Gagne crew as I have for Fiona & her extended family, but the story telling has pulled me in! I do love seeing Tad play a positive role in this series!
I have enjoyed series so far and look forward to reading more
Following the travails of Jules and her family as they come to terms with who and what they are as truths are revealed with the weakening of the veil. The story is fast paced and fun
Enjoyable with lots of action. Reading the first series is not necessary but is a very good one if you like Urban Fantasy. Characters are good and their abilities are interesting. Well worth the time.
Holy smokes I figured it out! This book was so intriguing and insightful, especially in regards to Gareth. Definitely recommend, especially if you’re invested in the relationship between Jules and Gareth. I cannot wait to read the next book.
