On the verge of graduating college, with family ties being disjointed, Skye’s graduation day is not filled with people screaming her name but with loved ones there in spirit. Her goal is to achieve everything that most people dream of—a good man, becoming a wife, owning her own business, living the American dream. When her graduation night ends on a traumatic experience, Skye is thankful for the handsome stranger that intervenes, saving her from a ruthless predator. Not only that, life shatters Skye in more than one way, leaving her devastated and closed-hearted. When light finally shines through, she learns that red flags are there for a reason. After suffering another low blow, she is basically working her business and just primarily existing. But when a work-related event places her in front of the familiar stranger again, life for Skye suddenly goes from gloom to bloom. In the blink of an eye, your whole world can change, turning on its axis, going from on top of the world to the world on top of you. And nobody learns this lesson harder than Skye. As time moves on, she finds herself in a precarious position, having to start over multiple times. But when the world finally rights itself and she starts breathing again, Skye really understands what it means by Fallin’ For A Down South Boss. I want to preface this review and say, I do recommend the book and believe the author dedicated a lot of hardwork to her craft.
However, there were a few things that impacted the overall rating from a 5 to a 3.5 (rounded up to a 4).
What do the primary characters look like? Other than skin tones and a few other vague references, there's nothing to base a visualization off of when reading the story.
Skye's bourgeois attitude shouldn't have made her entire storyline boring, but why didn't she ever blame Macio for slamming her into the wall.. and then what consequently occurred? The fact that she even dated him was unrealistic considering how he was introduced into the story. Literally, the only thing about his character that was supposedly attractive was his looks, which were described as caramel, handsome, and 6"1..
Come on, now. No one found his presence suspicious? I really thought a more sinister sub-plot was going to come from it, but it was surprisingly flat.
Also, why make Amanda that extra? Singing on one man's microphone and then going straight to another man, no time to brush or wash.. seriously. She wasn't a City Girl.. more like an Urban Nightmare. Plus, the romance with Rico didn't connect.
Why were the outcomes at the end, so aligned and boring? Both men acted the same, like literally the same actions just a different name, venue, and woman. Even the elopement boring with a spruce of ridiculous.
I invite other readers to check this author out, and even though this book didn't "wow" me.. I'll be looking for other books, she's published for a 2nd try.
It seems like Skye was taking loss after loss but what I loved was her strength to continue to move on and not lose herself. What happened to Jayvon was heartbreaking and emotional. That car accident changed Skye entire life. Having the people she loved around her help her with her grief. I'm surprised Skye even gave Macio a chance. Especially since he was responsible for her life changing. Amanda was a wild and a free spirit but she's a best friend ever girl need. She definitely had Skye back. Amanda suspicions about Macio ended up being correct. Skye found out Macio had been up to no good. However who he cheated with was shocking. Keke deserved both of them ass whoopings she got. That was a snake move she pulled. I wasn't too shocked about who Skye mother ended up with. Skye thought her mother Yvonne was still pining after her father which wasn't true. In the ended Skye was able to get her happily ever happened with someone she least expected. Amanda did a complete change and calmed her wild ways all the way down.
Skye went through alot and my heart went out to her. She was almost sexually assaulted by a fk boy who couldn't take a rejection. I'm glad Carlos was taking a dump on the second floor or he wouldn't have been there to save her. Although they both had someone in their life the attention to each other was there. I hurt for her when she lost the love of her life in a car accident. A couple years later she started dating Macio, even though it felt forced she still gave it a shot. He was not the one. Mind you he was the cause of the accident although not intentional, he also was cheating on her with her employee who was supposed to be a friend causing the lose of their child. Bout ready to give up on love she's reconnected with Carlos and he's the one. I love Manda Fernades wasn't for her but he thought he was just gonna put his hands on her, naw potna 😂😂😂 she showed him she didn't play them types of games. I'm also glad she reconnected with Rico who is Carlos' cousin. This book was even better the second time around.💌💌
As always, you did an awesome job, Twyla. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. Skye went through a lot after Jayvon died. She never let any of her situation stop her plans. I'm glad she met up with Carlos again and got her happy ever after. Amanda was a handful. I thought she was gonna be the one in the hotel cause of how free spirited she was, but I'm sooooo glad she didn't betray her bestie like that. The growth in Manda was awesome, and Rico came back, giving her the love she wanted and needed. It was amazing. Twyla, you always leave me wanting more. Keep up the great work.
Definitely read this when it came out but rereading it was just as good if not better. Skye was hit with a hard blow in the beginning and my heart broke for her but I’m glad she had her family there for her to push forward. Macio was sketchy from the beginning and I was wrong on who I thought he was cheating with but him and that heffa got that butt whoopin they deserved. Amanda was a true ride or die, even though she was a had full she got her stuff together. Carlos and Rico was pressure and I’m glad they all got the happiness they deserved !!! Great job 💙
Twyla, I loved this read. To see Skye, go through so much pain then to have the strength to rebuild a broken relationship with her mom, just showed me how strong she is. Everyone needs a friend like Amanda. That twist you threw in the mix had me happy it wasn't what I thought. Carlos and Rico came just when they were supposed to. I just loved how everything played out. 🤗🤗🤗.
That was a great read just as the first time. I’m glad Skye found out that Macio was a dog. Because after Jayvon passed I was team Carlos all the way . Mandy was the realest friend Skye could have but she was real with her . KeKe should have just took the L and stayed away. But I’m glad that Skye,Carlos,Mandy, and Rico got a happy ending and the Skye’s mother and Jayvon’s dad
Third time was definitely a charm. I’m so happy Skye got her happily ever after cuz she definitely deserved it. Macio was a piece of work and I’m glad the right man put him in his place. The darn Amanda never stop joking. She’ll take a bad situation and make you laugh. Her and Rico makes a good couple. Macio was very patient and he knew what he wanted. It wasn’t the right time but now he’s living his life it’s golden with his queen. Great job
The book was very interesting. I wish there would be a part 2 to say how the couples were doing. I am glad skye finally found love at last after jayvin passed away from the car accident. I am also happy that Rico and Amanda was able to get it right and be together. I would like to know what we’re the sex of skye and Rico kids. How are the relationships going between the 2 couples as well as skye mom and Mr.peeples.
A good read that is well written with a steady flow. These characters are well developed, likeable, and interesting. There is some sorrow, some heart ache, some fake friends, and some growth. The Arthur does a great job with the storyline and I definitely enjoyed reading this story.
Skye goes through a lot of pain but she finally gets her happiness. She had to start over a few times but she is a warrior. She may have been bent from all of her heartbreaks but she is definitely not broken. Skye pushes through even when it was hard to do. However, her resilience and faithfulness led to her falling for her down south boss.
Twyla came through as usual.... What happens when one loss leads the someting greater!! Skyes journey and growth was worth the read. Glad that Manda wasnt the snake I thought she was and had her besties back to the end The second chance that all the deserving ladiies recieved was warranted and earned.
Jayvon and Skye had a beautiful Love but her and Carlos have that eternal Love. Amanda and Rico was made for each other. That time the spent apart was just what they needed.
This was a hood which read for me. It’s like soon as Skye and Amanda got it right the story was over. I would’ve preferred them getting it right earlier in the book but I guess.
It's been a long time since I read a book that made me tear up! I was soooo happy for Skye and Amanda! They gound some great men! Would love to see them again in another book!
I have a big heart for standalones and the characters and subjects were great. I just wanted to read about skye and Carlos having there twins. Keep up the great work.
This was a REALLY GR8 book. I truly enjoyed the characters. Amanda was hilarious but she was real .... Macio was definitely a joke. So glad she wasn't really feeling him. Happy for both of the friends. This book won't disappoint.
I must have breezed thru this the first time around, bcz I didn’t leave a review. Well this is a dope Ass story so dope I read it twice. It was even better the second time. Waste now more time with reviews just download and read. Happy reading
This was a very good read. The characters was relatable. There was a lot of twists and turns. I wish she would have continued with the story. I would have loved to know what they was having.
That's what I'm talking about. I just love love. So glad she escaped being with pencil d*ick forever. I hope Ke-Ke knows that how you get them is how you lose them. Stupid bish! She just made me mad all over again.
This was a good one.. I enjoyed it! I remember the novel this followed up from.. I don’t remember the name, but I always thought Carlos and Skye had a strong connection in that one..
The book took so long to get the good part and drugged out details of all the areas of the characters... by the time I was excited for sky and Amanda the book was over
You had me there for minute. Thinking it was either the mother, best friend or Ke Ke. I still don't understand the reason for cheating. Glad Skye got her HEA.
