Nevaeh Chapel’s life was picture perfect. A loving family, great job, and a doting boyfriend; one would think that she had it all together from the outside looking in. She thought she had it all together too, until she crossed paths with a loose cannon that was the epitome of the phrase.
Kaleb “Cannon” Barnes had one belief that he didn’t comprise My life, my rules. He was unapologetically himself living life on his own terms. Crossing paths with a feisty woman who’s personality was just as explosive as his was the one thing Cannon wasn’t prepared for.
One heated exchange and a drink to the face quickly shifted everything that made sense when it came to the plans, Nevaeh and Cannon thought they had locked down. Once the flame is ignited these two strong willed souls will either run for cover or set the world ablaze.

I just could not get with this story….The male character was rude, aggressive and abrasive…this character was simply too much..both narrators were new to me… the female narrator did a great job….HOWEVER, that male narrator was absolutely terrible! He read the story like a first grader, which made the story less than enjoyable.
As soon as I finished this story, my immediate thought was, “whew, they went through a lot!” The odds were definitely stacked against this couple from the beginning. Their first encounter was less than pleasant, and I was thinking no way they will make it. If you are into fast paced stories with twists, family drama, legal entities, and gunplay—this is the book for you. What I loved the most was the love story that unfolded and the journey to reach a happily ever after.
Kaleb, better known as Cannon, has the perfect name because he shot out like a cannon ball throughout this story. He earned that name. He is described as, “wild, uncalculated, and says whatever is on his mind.” However, let me add, he is thorough, loves hard, and always backs up his threats. While the couple started rocky, the instant attraction was evident. Kaleb recognized early that Neveah was his missing piece. I enjoyed seeing the sensual and loving side of Kaleb. However, when Cannon was present, I was clutching my eyes because I genuinely did not know what he would say or do. He was such a hothead! In addition, every time Kaleb said, “Stay Beautiful” to Neveah, I was squealing! I was in love with the way that Kaleb loved his woman.
Neveah was not one to tolerate disrespect; she is the complete opposite of Kaleb. She was in a long-term relationship that was going nowhere fast. When she threw that drink in Kaleb’s face, I knew I would love her energy. Neveah did not know what was in store for her with Kaleb but she quickly learned to trust him.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story; it entertained me from beginning to end. I was especially interested in seeing how Neveah and Kaleb would turn out and if they could overcome all the hurdles. While Kaleb is the man in the streets and had a dominant personality, Neveah was sweet but demanded respect. I also loved the friendship between Neveah and Marsay! They were the definition of, “A-1, Day 1.” Marsay deserves some love; I would not be opposed to seeing a story about her. Two things T’Lyn is going to do is write a male character that will go to war for his lady and show readers you can have positive friendships. In the end, love wins!
I received an arc from the author, all bookish thoughts are my own.
Ain’t nothing like a hood dude with a soft spot for his lady. Cannon was living the single life up until he met Navaeh. Although she was in a relationship with someone else and she threw a drink at him he knew he was looking into the eyes of his future. He swept right in with his crazy ways and Navaeh couldn’t help but fall for him. A lot happens in this story church scandals, money laundering, family issues but you’ll definitely be entertained by this. Had my laughing a few times as well. As blunt an Cannon is the way he words things will have you loving him. Great read!
Ok 🤦🏾this mofo said bitch so many times my head was spinning 🤯. Cannon couldn't think of no other words for any female he was referring to. That man was aggressive as hell just too much for me ✋🏾. Was I bored 🤔no, was I entertained yes, was I disturbed yes, was I irritated yes. Would I read it again probably 🤣🤣🤣. I rated this a four because the usage of bitch was overkill for me🤷🏾 and I would have preferred the female narrator for the entire story.
I can't with this book. The MMC's personality is so off putting. I tried. I'm bout a quarter thru and I just couldn't take Caleb/Cannon anymore. It must be a thin line between BDE and psycho. This dude fell on the psycho side to me. I'm over him. Im putting this book on ice just in case I'm not in the right frame of mind to read his insanity.
Cannon has got to be the rudest ninja T’Lyn has written about yet!!! The things that comes out it mouth is just…. Oh boy!!! But he met his match with Nevaeh. I didnt care for her daddy cause sir how dare you act the way you did with my brother! I loved loved this story. T’lyn girl you never disappoint. Kudos to you.
Cannon lived up to his name. This man was uncalculated with certain things lol. He was sort of toxic at first and he is disrespectful. Veah is the total opposite but opposites attract. This was one bumpy ride in this story but I loved it. Another great one
Love you did that with this book. I loved it from the beginning to the end. Cannon was so determined that he was going to have Nevaeh no lie. I was so happy that they got together though.
This started as an okay read. The whole book Cannon didn’t have NO chill his character was actually a migraine. I had to stop reading so many times. I started off liking Neveah, but she soon got on my mf nerves. All the girl did was crrrryyyyyyy. She was sickening with all that crying. Most of the story didn’t make sense, it started off interesting, but Kaleb didn’t have no real right hand, no friends, no sibs, no cousins, etc. NOTHING, he was a one man army/super villain 🙄🙄🙄. I didn’t finish the book, don’t really care to, the characters are horrible. Kaleb had the potential to be a book bae, but the author dropped the ball on his character. Everybody and I mean everybody down to the Columbia mafia was scared of this man. HOW SWAY? He only had like 4 ppl working for him, and your telling me that this big Colombian boss was scared of this lil person from the hood? On top of that he wasn’t even a boss yet, none of it made sense. Awe and let’s not forget every female in the city except one (Cherry) wanted him, and I do mean every, even the damn detective who put her job on the line by fingering herself in the precinct she worked at while supposedly in the interrogation room. The author kept saying he don’t do easy Kat, but every girl he messed with was easy. Again this was so unrealistic and goofy I’m glad it’s over.
I enjoyed this, and the story started on page 1 and kept the pace... the dad and mom I disliked sosossoso much. The friendship was great and when Kaleb became all about naveh...woo he was all about her and didn't discriminate who could get it...it was cute.
The way I tracked this couple down after seeing glimpses of them in the One Eighty series by Charity Shane is ridiculous. But I could just tell from their separate and joint interactions that I needed to know their story.
After acting a fool on social media and a deep search through Goodreads I had a title and baby I have no regrets.
Caleb "Cannon" Barnes is not only one of the bosses of Crescent Falls but he is he cousin of Rhian Barnes who is the FMC in One Eighty. (Sorry I know different book BUT ya'll need to read that one too! Different boss, different vibe, love the interconnectedness)
What I really appreciated about Caleb's story is we get to see his rise in status. This starts off with him being a solider making house calls and getting his hands dirty to being handed a kingdom and building it to meet his standards. Thorough it all he is wild, impulsive, rude, a hot head, and his most authentic self. He is fearless when it comes to authority and consequences. He stays on the ready at all times.
Young Cannon is something else. I swear he and Rook (ML Bash Barron Family Series) could either be Besties or Ultimate Enemies.
Our girl Neveah is a good girl. She is educated, has a white-collar job, and is active in her church. She did not stand a chance. After a face off with our boy, he's left smitten and determined to make her his. This is NOT a bully romance, but he bullied her into being with him for sure lol.
I loved seeing this relationship grow and overcome ALL the adversity that steamed from Cannon's reckless behavior. I was NOT ready for the level of corruption and family drama within this story.
Neveah is a good one and she stood by her man through it all.
Oh and this is extra Spicy, the way that man gives direction and talks!!! Glob Damn I think my uterus was crying for his seed LMAO
HIGHLY RECOMMEND
** Narration Notes: I listened to this in audio and at first the male narrator was a bit much. I felt like DMX was spitting at me. It wasn't off putting but it was intense. However, his tone calmed the fuck down throughout the book and matched Caleb's energy as he matured and learned more self-control which I think was intentional and thoughtful. The Female Narrator reminded me of Gabrielle Union. :) **
Kaleb/Cannon took away from the story, he was very immature, ignorant, disrespectful to everybody including his own grandparents, there was absolutely nothing likeable about him. He couldn't talk without over cursing, like he was angrily disrespectful for no reason. It's not like he had a hard life, his grandparents raised him in love, everything he did was a choice he made, I couldn't stand him at all. I don't see how or what Nevaeh saw in him or what she found attractive about him, I don't get how they even got together, he was an ignorant stalker that she should have gotten a restraining order on. Then why was ALL of the women desperately dumb, taking his very verbal abuse and for what. I can't stand stories with these weak stupid infatuated for no reason women, like good sex doesn't make you dumb, deaf or blind, in fact how he talks to women period should have been a turn off. And Nevaeh, the author seemed to not be able to pick a lane with her character and completely overdid Kaleb's character, nobody is that purposely ignorant and stupid for no reason unless they've had a very bad life and had mental issues or something. Didn't like this or the characters at all.
This was probably my least favorite from this author. Idk Caleb had his funny moments but he was a little too blunt for me. And like the gentlemen tried to tell him in the beginning his short temper could be his downfall. And it almost was for second. Now NaVeah was okay I guess she didn’t really impress me and to be honest I preferred her POV the least compared to Kaleb. This was an okay book but it was sort of boring. So boring that there is no way I could look over all the grammatical errors and missing words. And let’s not forget how the author forgot details of the story she wrote. She had things one way at the begin hint and another way at a different part in the book. For example it was stated that Kaleb had just met the Raven chick a few weeks ago in a grocery store. But when he confronts her about approaching NaVeah. The girl states she’s been around years. Hmmm how is that when he’s only know you for a few weeks? Idk this story made me exhausted. Or how NaVeah at first stated she had only dated the Robert dude for about two years but when they had the conversation at the cabin it was they had been dating since College. But even though it wasn’t exactly for me it may be for someone else
OMG!!!! I again have another book bae 🤩🤩🤩 Just as Khaleed would say: “this another one”
I think if I am not mistaken, most MMC I this author’s work are book bae and KB is that and more. I also believe that I must be not in the regular normal spectrum because the craziest, ruthless, gangster, alpha, they are I just love them and gravitate or relate more to them. Nevaeh was very good for him and what’s so good was that although she was naive and green, she was also dedicated, loyal, and genuine and very relatable because a lot of us are probably the same. Marsay was such a perfect and great BFF and even Mott was a friend. I wished she shouldn’t have to be the one to reach out to her peoples first, since she wasn’t in the wrong, but the worst for me was the mom not having a backbone. Once again MS. T’Lyn you’ve done it and can’t wait for the next best to come…. Please hurry! I go on these withdrawals quickly knowing how wicked, sick and perfect your penmanship could be!!!! Thank you 🙏
I’m a bit disappointed in this one ngl 🫤 there was far too much other people drama for my liking so I deducted a star for that but the rest of the story was good. Although I didn’t like that he had sex with other people after meeting her and she even walked in on him with another woman after he’s already shown interest in her. It made no sense because he was so infatuated with her, allegedly.
I liked Kaleb’s idc and idgaf attitude. It definitely kept me entertained. He knew what he wanted and went for it. I can give him that much. I liked him more in the other book I read him where he’s already married to her and is pregnant with their second child. I wanted to know their backstory because it seemed like he loved her so so much but I felt like there was more telling than showing in that department.
The spice was amazing as I’ve come to realize from this author. It was a bit too long for me. Got bored towards the end then gasped when he killed rob’s pregnant girlfriend then killed him too. The guy is ruthless. Definitely take precaution going into this one.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Kaleb made up in his mind that he wanted Neveah because she wasn't like any other chicks he messed with. Raven and Esha tried to pin babies on him because he ghosted them for Neveah. They are delusional. Kaleb got BDE. He didn't allow Neveah to call him Cannon because that was his street name. Kaleb told all Neveah daddy's business which caused her to lose all respect for him. When she went to dinner her daddy thought she going to turn on her man and Robert agreeing like a goofy. Robert ole jealous a** told Neveah, Kaleb business like she was going to run back to him. It tickled me when Neveah punched Elena in her nose. She didn't believe her and nobody was going to play in her face about Kaleb. They went through it. Kaleb changed his ways some. Neveah still needed her mama, not so much her dad, he doesn't have the right to be called daddy. Kaleb is sensitive and sweet towards Neveah and their son.
Before reading this, I saw a reviewer mention how turned off they were by the MMC.
Well I couldn’t agree more.
For me there was no romance here and the personality of the FMC switched up really quickly. Initially it seemed the author was trying to make her a more conservative girl. With the mentioning of her church involvement, only having been with Robert, getting on to her bestie about her language.
But all of a sudden, the thing with Robert happened. And she’s a whole new woman. It was confusing.
But honestly I didn’t like either of the main characters. Kaleb had no regard for anyone. He was disrespectful and crass. She was weak and simple minded af.
The whole dynamic with her parents was ridiculous and confusing. So was mom being abused?
I’m all for a confident guy that’s all about his woman, but I couldn’t vibe with Cannon/Kaleb. He was a little too hot headed for me, so his “boss” status wasn’t appealing at all. Dude was rude to everyone except his grandparents and Marshay. I found this weird because Nevaeh was his “girl” but he manipulated her into being with him. He kept forcing his way until her space and acting out when she put up a little resistance, it was just too much. I expected some growth from both of them, but there wasn’t much. Honestly, Nevaeh reminded me of a teenager with how she navigated her relationship with her ex and Cannon/Kaleb. I kept forgetting how old they supposedly were because the level of maturity was questionable.
I guess male lead can’t be like JV. Oh well! Until next time T’Lyn
You know the author is amazing when they have you feeling a way about a character(s) in their book. I disliked both the MMC and FMC.
Kaleb (Cannon) was aggressively rude, selfish and disrespectful. Like, I just wanted to tell him to chill. How did he get like that because usually people raised by sweet, loving, kind and gentle grandparents don’t act like that? He had no regard for anyone, anyone… at all! He was sooo aggressive. He act like he had no home training. Reminds me of some people I know.
Neveah and all that crying. Like girl, chill! She started off with all the sass and then just turned into a lovesick, timid little crybaby. Her parents were a joke and she was definitely heavily sheltered. But ma’am… You were really ready to risk it all for this man??? Oh, ok!
I don’t know. I liked the story but the characters annoyed me.
The storyline was good. Neveah settling for her first, because he checked off most of the boxes is common for so many of us. I’m glad she dodged that bullet! Cannon being such a hot head, with no filter, quick tempered and all around disrespectful, was a bite heavy. I love that he was alpha through and through, but I couldn’t understand with his grandparents who raised him, being so respectful and loving, where the disrespect, and cold blooded disregard for human life came from. I gave this a three because though I love “the love” that Neveah and Kaleb, also known as Cannon, developed, Kaleb’s character was a little too hard and stressful at times. Also, I know that black on black crime is real, but it still is pretty sad that we kill our own so much that hanging us from trees is not necessary.
Kaleb & Nevaeh. They were from different sides of the railroad tracks but they were made for each other. From the moment he laid eyes on her, she had his whole heart. He pursued her and she tried to tell him ‘no’ at every turn but that word fell of deaf ears. Nevaeh’s ex really got on my last bit of nerves and he made it too long in my opinion. He should’ve been dealt with way sooner. I couldn’t believe her dad. Nevaeh was truly a rider for her man and he clearly wasn’t playing about her. When it’s all said and done, I loved MHROY. Truthfully, there hasn’t been a single thing that I have read from this author that I haven’t fallen in love with. At this point, if she writes it, I’m gonna read it!
I've enjoyed watching T'Lyn's growth from her first book to now. I must admit it took me a minute to get into this one, but when I did I couldn't put it down! Cannon, I mean Kaleb😁 ole toxic azz had NO filter at all, but you couldn't help but to love him in the end. I loved the way he handled Naveah. I hoped her dad would have a change of heart especially with all the stuff he was doing, but 🖕🏾 him and his feelings. His daughter found love and happiness with this rude ninja and he didn't have to like it, but he needed to respect it! Anyway I enjoyed reading this and can't wait to see what's next!
Wow Cannon is a live wire. You never knew what you were going to get with him. Nevaeh was such a sweetheart but she did not take no mess especially none of Cannon’s mess. Cannon was attracted to her from the moment she threw her drink in his face after he called her out of her name, not meaning any harm because that’s how he referred to women but that’s not what Nevaeh allowed or accepted. It seemed like the cards was stacked against the two from all the women Cannon had but Cannon was determined to have Navajo and he pulled all the stops to win her over. The two ultimately fell in love with one another.
Kaleb/Cannon was a character who was very much in control of all things that involved his life and those he loved. It came to a halt when someone had it out for him. When he met Neveah, he immediately knew he wanted more with her. Cannon disregarded her having a boyfriend. He knew what he wanted and went for it. Neveah got Kaleb while others got Cannon.
I was really impressed with Kaleb’s ability to get things done and it was like he rubbed off on Nevaeh. Towards the end she finally bossed up on her parents when they were disrespecting her relationship.
There were many grammatical errors, but Kaleb’s character caused me to continue reading.
