Broken Harmone written by the author M. Marie Walker is the second book in the My House book series. Since the plot links to part 1 of the series, one couldn't read this book as a standalone.

As we read in part one, Mike was separated from his wife Jakyra and after she insisted about returning to him, they united once again. Now, Mike has been cheated and that too in a way he wouldn't ever imagine in his wildest dreams. Mike's wife Jakyra cheated on him with his sister's boyfriend Jason. She is carrying the child of another man and tells Mike that it's his child. MyIesha is also angry that her boyfriend cheated on her.

Mike announced his divorce with Jakyra and left home to go to some bar. At the bar, he met a woman named Erin who felt like a guardian angel that night. Will the two of them meet again?

The plot of the story is written well by the author. Those who believe in second chances at love should read this book. The story is well paced and the characters are written nicely by the author. The deceit, second chance romance, lies, love, etc would keep the story interesting till the last page.

Broken Harmone is a captivating story that hooked my attention from the first page. Since I have read Book 1 in the series, I am able to follow the story easily. Mike and Jakyra have been separated for a year. When Jakyra got back with Mike, Mike thought things had changed but he was wrong.

In spite of being cheated by Jakyra, Mike still cares for her. Jakyra slept with a man who was off limits. She is now pregnant with another man's child. Mike was so angry that he visited Hartley's Bar and Grille so he had alcohol and forgot his pain. However, Mike has been sober for a few months and he wasn't able to have shots. Read this story to know about the further plot.

The story is full of relationship drama and second chance romance. The author has used a language that is easy to follow. The storyline is gripping and makes this book unputdownable. There are many characters in this book and one could easily keep track of them. I loved the author's work. Definitely interested in reading more books by her.

Mike and Jakyra's relationship wasn't on a smooth track in the past. Still, Mike gave another chance because his love for her still exists. Jakyra betrayed Mike and broke his trust. She slept with Mike's sister's boyfriend Jason. Mike felt a fool to believe the lie of Jakyra related to her pregnancy.

After knowing that the baby Jakyra is carrying isn't Mike's, his world is shattered. The wounds that Jakyra has given to Mike because of her unfaithfulness are behind repair now. Mike wanted to dull his pain so he went to a random bar. There, he met a woman named Erin Brooks. After meeting Erin, he felt like he had known her forever.

The cover photo of the book is designed well. The language used in the book is simple and I was able to follow the story easily. The characters, betrayal, new romance everything feels so real. If you enjoy reading stories involving second chances at love then read this one.

A Satisfying Read

African American literature that touches mainly on social issues depict the real situations in the black community, relationships, and mesmerizing dialogue for the audience to savor.

I am an author of The Big Game Poetry Collection and I recommend M. Marie Walker highly for crafting this satisfying read! It really is well formatted. Also, I would note that the book was available for my enjoyment on Amazon Unlimited.

I am always looking for something to read, and it's not often you can find a book with a cover this suave.
I noted quite a few observations about the book formatting and exterior because it sold the concept to the audience in my opinion.

The mood or tone of the book would be fast pace climactic. Also, it would be describable as a hot topic. I would definitely love to take more time reading more from this author future tense 😁

Broken Harmone:

I fell in love with this author’s work during her first book, “My House Series' ' book one. Ever since then I have been waiting for Broken Harmone about a man who was abused by his father, and has a constant battle with defining love in his life. Those aside, Mike has an enviable relationship of love with his brother, who in book one was his most tenable family member. Mike is a stable family member, with a great job, who is plagued by overwhelming emotions, especially as it comes to the unfaithfulness of his first wife and his father’s abuse of his mother. In book one of this saga, Mike’s wife Jakyra betrayed him when she slept with his sister’s husband and got pregnant. I must say that pregnancy extends to book two; and in this saga Jakyra is still fighting for Mike’s love, while he is recalling the intimacy of a love lost. Like the first book, there are also flashbacks of the domestic issues that were compounded with the aggravation of having a father that dished out endless abuse to his own mother. As a reader, in book one I was pulling for Mike to work things out with Jakyra and in Book 2 Broken Harmone, the author left me quite satisfied with the outcome of Mike’s love relationships. One is still left wanting Mike to find the right love; therefore when he meets Erin, and she is introduced as his infinite forgotten love, the genius of Walker draws out my own emotions, especially over that old friendship Mike had with Erin.

Great writing prompts a reader to yearn for the wife that does not make Mike happy anymore; from the meetups to when Jakyra encounters Mike’s new love Erin, you want all the characters battling love to win. Rather than give away the genius of the character building of this story, suffice it to say, Walker is a tamed writer, who makes a reader engage a story from the beginning to the end. The clandestine meetings between Mike and the girl he gave the Promise ring is touching. Mike's relationship with this childhood friend is magnifying. It is well-written and it’s the kind of transition that keeps the reader turning the pages for more. The whole while you’re engaging the love story of Erin and Mike, you’re wondering if the wifey Mike once loved in Book One will be able to get his love back or even if the baby is really Mike’s. However, the powerful connection between Erin and Mike does not make it clear in the beginning if Mike’s wife Jakyra will persevere. As soon as you think Jakyra is gone forever, please keep reading to find out if the wife will tear Mike away from the undisputed love of his life.

This book is more than fantastic, it’s mesmerizing. No one who has ever been in love will be disappointed in Broken Harmone. Ms. Walker possesses a rare talent of respecting her characters and the readers who love them. This kind of talent is not divvied to just a writer, it is preserved by God for the best; for the ones with the most imagination; and that writer to me, is Marie Walker. To me, Broken Harmone is a hit. However, one must read the first book to understand Mike’s actions. There are triggers if you are fighting alcoholism or domestic violence, but the writer takes the time to gently coax one through those emotional challenges. Each time I read a Walker book, I have mixed emotions because I really get into the characters. I even wrote the author to demand that Mike take Jakyra back and those changes are reflected in Broken Harmone. Of course, one only loves a character when they become engaged in great writing. Then, you ask yourself does this really have to end? Then, you’re wondering when the next book will be here? If you’re looking for a book with lots of romance and drama, this is a must read for you. I commend this book to all!

From the very first page, Broken Harmone pulls you into a world where love and pain coexist in the rawest, most compelling way. Picking up where My House ends, it grabs the emotional momentum and turns it up, weaving heartbreak, hope, and fierce chemistry into a story that refuses to let you go. Mike’s betrayal by Jakyra has pushed him to the brink, forcing him to confront the ghosts of his past and the fragile possibility of new love.

Mike Harmon is a man shattered by the events of Thanksgiving night. He’s drowning in regret, grief, and the crushing weight of everything he’s tried to bury. His pain feels raw and painfully real. Watching him wrestle with who he was and who he wants to become is both heartbreaking and captivating. Mike isn’t a perfect hero, and that’s exactly what makes him so compelling across Books 1 and 2.

Erin is powerful, strong, stubborn, fiercely independent, and determined never to let anyone control or hurt her again. When Erin and Mike collide, the chemistry is intense, emotional, and beautifully chaotic. Their connection is built on vulnerability, hard truths, and the painful realization that love doesn’t erase the past; it forces you to face it. Together, they are flawed, magnetic, and impossible not to root for.

The dialogue is vivid and engaging, and the emotional beats feel authentic. Even amid the drama, there are moments of tenderness that ground the story and deepen your connection to these deeply human characters. While a few scenes lean toward melodrama, the overall narrative delivers heart-pounding romance and meaningful growth.

M. Marie Walker skillfully explores how trauma reshapes relationships, how forgiveness can be both freeing and destructive, and how rebuilding trust can feel nearly impossible, yet utterly necessary.

My House throws you into a storm of betrayal, emotional chaos, and truth-seeking, setting the stage with characters you’ll either fiercely love or passionately hate. Broken Harmone builds on that foundation, transforming it into a story of healing, renewed hope, and love rising from pain. Together, these books create a narrative that is messy, emotional, painful, and deeply real.

The growth these characters experience through their pain feels authentic and earned. I’m so excited to continue this journey in Book 3. Thank you, M. Marie Walker, for writing stories that linger long after the final page.

“Broken Harmone” is the second book in the My House series. The follow up to “My House” where we were introduced to Mike Harmon, his family, wife, and friends. “My House” ends with an explosive Thanksgiving meal between the characters, leaving off right where this second book picks up.

Readers will immediately be jolted by this read as the prologue gives us a rare look at childhood love, and the beauty that can arise through the cracks of a broken home life. Julien Harmone and Brooklyn Avery are strangers to each other outside of this playground where they meet. Using their middle names only, and being from different schools and neighborhoods, they begin to lean on each other and fall in love. Fast forward to the present-day Thanksgiving when Mike’s life seems to be upended, this prologue reminds readers of the happy moments between the hard emotions.

While Mike may let his “assholism” out every once in a while, his caring, supportive, and strong nature make him an ideal lead for this book. Through the emotional moments, and hot scenes, Mike’s personality shines through. From the witty banter to his heartfelt and tender moments, author M. Marie Walker has created a well-rounded, full, and tangible character. Mike feels like the CEO next door, while also holding immense power over the reader’s emotions and body temperature.

Author M. Marie Walker also has a way with dialogue and conversation, as she again shows in this follow up novel. During conversations, Walker simultaneously inserts readers into the characters head and heart, so they literally feel and process as if they are that character, embracing their personality, thoughts, and words.

Thus, while Mike’s childhood and family continued to remain at the forefront of this novel, I really like that Walker began to center his work life more in “Broken Harmone.” We were introduced to colleagues and shown Mike’s perspective as it pertains to interior design and detail. “Broken Harmone” maintained all the heart pounding and sizzling scenes from “My House,” while giving readers more depth and emotion from our main characters within.

I am such a big fan of this series and these interesting characters that M. Marie Walker has created! BROKEN HARMONE continues the story of Mike and his family, through all the trials and tribulations as they struggle to deal with past hurts, the fallout from mistakes, and find a way to live their best lives. The prologue opens with a touching scene with two teens who are deeply in love. Then we flash forward fifteen years to where the series left off in book one. Mike has made a mess of his life in many respects, and a lot of those choices are his own fault, but it’s also hard not to pity the hand he was dealt with an abusive father and the loss of his mother at a young age. You don’t always like the choices the characters make in this book, but you understand them. And one of my favorite things about this book? The Drama! You cannot go one chapter without juicy drama occurring, whether that’s between Mike and his ex-wife or his love interest, Erin Brooks, or her ex, Ashton. I was cheering for a happy ending for all of my favorite characters, and eagerly flipping pages to see what would happen next. This is a terrific series, full of action, steamy romance, and memorable characters. I’m excited to see what’s in store next! 5/5 stars.
