Agent Tori Hunter #5

The Snow Graves

Rate this book
The young couple lies still on the snow-covered sidewalk, their gloved hands tightly linked as though they could save each other. But flashing blue lights illuminate the quiet street, and drops of blood scatter the pure white ground…

Agent Tori Hunter is heartbroken at the murders of Cam and Gracie, two college students dating for just a few months, shot dead outside his aunt’s home. With witnesses in this once-peaceful neighborhood saying they saw a black car speed away, Tori is desperately tracking it down when a nine-year-old girl is found sitting alone on a park bench, refusing to speak. No one in this small community knows who she is… is she somehow linked to the murders?

Visiting little Alisha as she huddles in her pink coat, Tori quickly realizes she is deaf. As her hands move in sign language, Tori makes out her message: We had to run from the lady in the black car. I want to go home.

Did Alisha witness Cam and Gracie’s killer? Tori is racing to follow her directions to a lonely cabin deep in the pine forest when she gets an anonymous call from a female voice that makes her blood run cold. “Hello, Tori. To keep Alisha safe you need to do exactly as I say…”

Is Tori speaking to the killer, or is putting her trust in this mysterious woman her one hope of catching the true perpetrator? As more phone calls come, it’s clear the voice knows all about a cold case from Tori’s past—and that Tori must confront this twisted mind, and her own darkest demons before more innocent lives are lost.

An absolutely unputdownable read that will have you gasping at the twists and turns. Perfect for fans of Robert Dugoni, Gregg Olsen and Melinda Leigh.

I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Bookouture.

The Snow Graves is the fifth book in a fast-paced crime series hosting Detective Will Braddock and Former Special Agent Tori Hunter. I've not had the pleasure of reading the previous books in this series, but I will be rectifying that ASAP. We follow this formidable team on a murder case set in Northern Minnesota and even though I got a little confused with a few characters as there was no back story present for them in this book (I'd suggest reading the previous books first as these may contain that info) I really enjoyed the plot and story once I'd gotten into it. The book starts when there has been a drive-by shooting in a quiet town, throw in revenge, organised crime and drug dealing, and this book explodes with action and suspense. I really enjoyed Tori's character and look forward to discovering more about her in the previous books and going forward as this is definitely a series I will be returning to!

I am back with Special Agent Tori Hunter and her partner Braddock and oh boy what an action packed crime thriller. It all starts off with a drive by shooting in a quiet town but this is only the beginning. A real page turner and I literally have no nails left and have quite a few cold cups of cold coffee by my side. Yes this book is that good!!!!! For me the best in the series so far. Another in your face gritty crime thriller and so much more. Loved it and highly recommended.

Former Special Agent Tori Hunter and her partner Detective Will Braddock are back! In an action packed, heart in the mouth captivating read.

Which sees the pair investigate what starts out as a drive by shooting. But soon turns into something so much more. As those behind the drive by try to frame a disgruntled ex.

Only thanks to a mysterious female caller. The team is able to act and, in doing so connects these deaths to a spate of mysterious disappearing drug dealers and a Chicago-based mob enterprise. That's established themselves in Manchester Bay.

And as the bodies begin to pile up and the mysterious female caller becomes more brazen. The stakes get higher.

And with so many twists and turns. This was a cracking read. That truly had me hooked and I would happily recommend this story and series to others. As genuinely each one has just got better and better.

I was kindly provided with an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Boom 💥

Another absolute page turner. This series gets better with every single book. I want more. I don’t do spoilers. But hot diggity…what a ride.

And I’ll say one other thing…I rooted hard for Maggie. There I said it.

My reading plate is quite full at the moment, and I wasn’t looking for another thriller, but when I saw that The Snow Graves is penned by Minnesota author Roger Stelljes, I jumped. Tori Hunter? The name sounds familiar. No, not Torii, the much beloved Twins’ center fielder. This is Tori, short for Victoria, a retired FBI Special Agent who is now living in northern Minnesota with her boyfriend Will Braddock. I was confused, because I thought I’d read at least one Hunter book, but it turns out I’d read seven of the books in the McRyan series.

This book gets rolling quickly and never stops. If drug dealing, organized crime, murder, and revenge are all things that you like in a thriller, you’re in luck. Who knew northern Minnesota could be so exciting? This story is chock full of action and, once I got into it, was hard to put down.

Tori is a likable character. She’s smart, determined, and quite capable. The other law enforcement characters are not so well fleshed out, not even Braddock. I had difficulty trying to figure out Steak and Eggs – who they were, what their names meant, even, until later in the book. A little background on them would have been helpful. There is, however, plenty of background on one other very significant character. I won’t give a name, as this would be a spoiler. I was really pulling for this individual, despite some obvious flaws. I was satisfied that the outcome was as positive as could be expected.

It's always a pleasure to read well-written stories by fellow Minnesotans. If this genre is in your wheelhouse, you might very well enjoy The Snow Graves .

I received a digital copy as an ARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author.

The Snow Graves is the fifth in the series featuring tough as nails agent Tori Hunter. This entry in the series delivers a thrilling suspenseful police procedural as our favorite couple try to solve a mystery which has much bigger consequences then they first realise. I'll confess I've only read the first book in this series and I found this one to be a bit more action packed than that one. Even without having read the middle few books, I found this one was easy to follow and an enjoyable read. Thank you to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.

I won’t give a synopsis. However, I will give an affirmative 🤩 WOW 🤩 !

This is the 5th book in the Tori Hunter series. While it can be a standalone, it is highly recommended to start at the beginning. I was so immersed in Snow Graves, and regretted its ending, I’m inclined to reread all the previous novels in this series!

It’s a spellbinding, can’t put it down thrill ride! It’s addicting! Mr. Stelljes’ ability to keep the interest of his readers is stellar.
The pacing is fast and furious!
The character development is superb - dynamic, multi dimensional!
The climax is electrifying- what a jolt of adrenaline!
As mentioned, sad to see it end. It did end with a very satisfying denouement. The closure was exceptionally polished. So many writers rush the ending, leaving the resolution up in the air. Not Mr. Stelljes!

As a side note, I first started with Roger Stelljes years and years ago when he published the first in the McRyan Mystery series. I loved that series and was disappointed he put it aside to begin the Tori Hunter series. I can’t say enough ( or get enough) of both series! Kudos, Mr. Stelljes!

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an advanced copy of Snow Graves. It is my pleasure to provide an honest and unbiased review!

The Snow Graves
By: Roger Stelljes

Agent Tori Hunter is on the case. I did not realize this was a series.

When two college students are shot dead outside one of their relatives home, Agent Hunter is grief stricken. Witnesses describe a car fleeing the scene.

While looking for the car she sees a little girl on a bench and discovers she is deaf. Could she had seen something? The girl, Alisha is able to convey that she was also fleeing from a lady in the car.

The agent gets a phone call with instructions that she must follow in order the keep the girl safe. Is this call really about the girl or something more personal?

This novel is full of violence, so be prepared. Fast paced!

Available today March 10.

there is a lot going on with this book.... mob killings, assassins, drugs

but the one thing that sticks out is the murder of two young people who witness something though they are not sure what and are murdered on their doorstep

what follows next is a series of murders by an assassin who was out of the game but now is back for revenge...

its not a bad storyline though there are loads of characters to get your head around but tori hunters character draws you in and i found i liked her very much

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Snow Graves, the fifth novel to feature former FBI Special Agent Tori Hunter, now a consultant with the Manchester Bay, Minnesota Sheriff’s Office.

A drive by shooting kills three students. Tori and her partner, Chief Detective Will Braddock, are hunting a light coloured SUV seen leaving the scene, when another shooting is reported, this time the shooter is a woman in a black SUV. Then Tori finds Alisha, nine years old and deaf, who signs that she was escaping the lady in the black car.

I thoroughly enjoyed The Snow Graves, which is a high octane read with plenty of twists and turns. It is told from various points of view, giving the reader a wider perspective on events that is much needed because this is a big book with lots of characters and many strands. It’s not difficult to follow, but it is complicated in who did what and when.

The plot is great, not highly realistic but very entertaining. The lady in the black car is quickly identified to the reader, although not to Tori and Braddock, and that is only the start of her story. Her motive and backstory are gradually revealed over the course of the novel and they are jaw dropping. Her narrative features prominently in the novel. Meanwhile Tori is on the hunt for the drive by shooters and that opens a whole other can of worms. There is a motive for the shooting, but only a psychopath would think it acceptable to kill innocent teenagers for it. It’s not the only murder in the book, in fact there is a high body count, but it is the most egregious. It seems as if Tori and Braddock are continually playing catchup in a fast moving investigation. This is a novel where the past casts a long shadow into the present day. It is well done with strategic reveals and twists and a most satisfying conclusion. I enjoyed the contrast between the goodies and baddies as it puts everything in context.

I like Tori and Braddock. They are settling in to domestic bliss, but not at the expense of their investigative skills. He is the planner, she is the one with the insights who makes the links. I know that I said earlier that they seems to be playing catchup and oftentimes they are, but once the picture becomes clear to them they start to get proactive and it’s very enjoyable to read. I always like a bit of smart detecting.

The Snow Graves is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.

The Snow Graves is the fifth book in the Agent Tori Hunter series. This is the second book in the series I have read, and third book by the author. the series is intense and this new one is an action-packed thriller.

Nico signs to his deaf sister to wait here as he tries to figure out how to escape. As he hears gunshots he and Alisha run to a truck and drive away. But they are followed, and Nico leaves his sister on a park bench and signs to her to wait here as he tries to draw them away from his sister.

A young couple lies on the sidewalk gunned down. Maggie a nearby neighbor hears the gunshots and runs out to help as the shooter speeds away.

Agent Tori Hunter works the murders of Cam and Gracie, two college students who were dating. Tori is notified that a nine-year-old girl is found sitting alone on a park bench, refusing to speak. No one knows this girl and is taken to a foster home. While Tori is visiting Alisha, she realizes she is deaf. As her hands move in sign language, Alisha tells her, we had to run from the lady in the black car. I want to go home.

Tori gets a call from a woman who whispers to disguise her voice and tells Tori that she is looking at a person they are looking for. Tori will have to decide whether she can trust the information or not.

This story has just about everything you need for a pager turning mystery. Drugs, the mob, mob hits, and an informant to boot. It was extremely fast paced with so much going on. The characters are well written and extremely likeable. I really enjoyed this book.

I received an ARC from NetGalley for an unbiased review.

The Snow Graves (Agent Tori Hunter Book 5) by Roger Stelljes is an addictive and unputdownable mystery thriller and suspense novel. In book 5, Agent Tori Hunter investigates a triple murder. Is it a random drive-by shooting, or is something more nefarious going on? From page one, The Snow Graves is a gripping novel
in which the author skillfully unravels the story. It has the right amount of police procedural, a thrilling mystery, tender moments, and page-turning action until the very satisfying end. The characters are credible, and the story makes sense.

The cover is also very nice. It's what drew me initially to the book.

The Snow Graves is another intriguing installment in the adventures of Agent Tori Hunter and Braddock, and I would recommend this book. I would also recommend reading the first 4 books in this series.

Agent Tori Hunter is working hard as she investigates the murder of a young couple. Why were they gunned down? Then a young girl is found sitting alone on a bench by the scene and she refuses to say anything. Tori discovers the little girl is deaf. What did this little girl see?
So much going on in this fast paced story!
So many twists and turns!
There is drug dealing, organized crime and murder.
All in all, a good read that I encourage you to pick up.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Tori Hunter Book 5

When a call comes in about a drive by shooting Tori and the team are shocked to discover it's in a quiet, suburban neighbourhood. Who would want to gun down students with no criminal history?

Meanwhile a little girl is discovered abandoned in the square near the university. Who is she and what is she doing there? Could these events possibly be linked?

And then Tori receives a phone call. Is it from a witness or the killer?

This is a fast paced thriller with plenty of action to keep you gripped. I was intrigued by one particular character. A great book that I won't hesitate to recommend

I love this series. Tori Hunter is one of my favorite characters and because she has been through a lot already she can empathize with a lot of people too. It has taken a while before she got over the devastating things from her past but it has made her more determined and stronger. I know it's such a cliché, but clichés often stand for the truth too.

When you say Tori, you say Braaddock and of course he is back too, as well as Tracy, Tori's friend from her days as an FBI agent.

This time Tori has a very complicated case she has to try to unravel. People are being killed left, right and center, but baddies seem to be the target now too.

Who is this mysterious killer who decides enough is enough, working like a ghost but leaving behind quite a few dead bodies?

Little by little Tori finds out who is behind all this. Will she be able to catch them? On the one hand she does want to nail them. On the other hand the unsub is not bad through and through...

I love Maggie. She is a wonderful character and you just have to love her. She is soft and loving and fights for those she loves.

An amazing story I could not put down. 5 stars

Thank you

I was sucked in from the first page, and couldn't put it down!
This is fast-paced, action-packed, and full of so many twists and turns that I had no idea what was going to happen next. This particular story had a lot of moving parts that all came together beautifully, Tori and Braddock along with Steak and Eggs make an amazing team that will turn over every rock until they find all the evidence they need to put the bad guy away.
There is someone in particular in this book who I was rooting for the entire time, and I'm so happy that that situation went the way I hoped!
Each book has me falling more in love with these characters and I can't wait to see what kind of case Tori and Braddock will be solving next!

The Snow Graves in the 5th book in the Tori Hunter series. I'm a big fan of this series. Tori, Braddock, Steak and Eggs are all such great characters. This book seemed a bit different to me than the other books in the series. A ton of characters, not much back story for them, a little less personal than the previous stories. Mobsters, contract killers, unsolved mysteries. I enjoyed the story but I miss the personal connections Tori and her team usually have with the victims and perps. Roger Stelljes has a great series and can't wait for the next one!

4/5 stars! This is the fifth book in the Agent Tori Hunter series by author Roger Stelijes and was my first read by this author. The premise of this book was super intriguing and I was excited to see this pay off in the writing. The characters were 3-dimensional and had their own struggles and personalities. I was pulled into this story and surprised by the ending. Will definitely be reading more books by this author.

The Price of Justice

I could make the argument that justice delayed is not justice denied. This was a layered story of the murder of innocents, but also, the argument could be made, the guilty ones were eventually punished. The story was exciting and kept me reading to find out what would next be revealed. Great read!

General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers

Bookouture and Netgalley have provided me with a copy of Snow Graves for review:

On the snow-covered sidewalk, the young couple lies still, their gloved hands tightly linked as if they were trying to save one another. There are flashing blue lights illuminating the quiet street and drops of blood are scattered across the pure white ground...

Agent Hunter is deeply saddened by the shooting deaths of Cam and Gracie, two college students who had been dating for only a few months, just outside the home of his aunt. In this once-peaceful neighborhood, witnesses claim they saw a black car speed away, and Tori is desperately trying to locate it when she finds a nine-year-old girl seated alone on a park bench, refusing to speak. No one in this small community knows who she is... is she somehow connected to the murders?

While visiting little Alisha, Tori quickly notices that she is deaf. As she moves her hands in sign language, Tori conveys her message: We had to flee from the lady in the black car. I want to go home.

Did Alisha witness the murder of Cam and Gracie? Tori is rushing to follow her directions to a lonely cabin deep in the pine forest when she receives an anonymous call from a female voice that makes her blood run cold. “Hello, Tori. To keep Alisha safe you need to do exactly as I say…”

Is Tori speaking with the killer, or is this mysterious woman her only hope of catching the true perpetrator? In response to more phone calls, it is evident that the voice knows all about a cold case from Tori's past, and that Tori must confront this twisted mind, as well as her own darkest demons, before more innocent lives are lost.

I give Snow Graves five out of five stars!

The survivors are victims too!😟

4-4.5🌟 stars
A really exciting but a tad long suspenseful crime novel with a good range of sympathetic characters to counterbalance the bad guys. And a woman on a mission who's decidedly stuck in the middle. This was my first read of a Stelljes work and I really enjoyed it.

This story got to me emotionally because the criminal group that touched everything off neither thought nor cared about the emotional repercussions for the loved-one survivors of their actions. All in their way (or even suspected of endangering their illegal operations) they treated as disposable. Including a nine year old deaf orphan!

I was taken with the way the story morphed midstream from a police investigation of a drive-by shooting that kills three innocent young people on a quiet suburban street to a vigilante killer's efforts to singlehandedly take out some ruthless mobsters operating in small-town Minnesota. Maggie, the former contract killer who's recreated herself and stayed under the radar, risks it all to avenge a neighbor and good friend's senseless loss of her teenage only child and protect a young deaf girl. I found Maggie a very sympathetic character despite her ruthless quest for street justice.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

“The Snow Graves” by Roger Stelljes is a gripping and chilling crime thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat. The novel follows Agent Tori Hunter as she tries to solve the murder of three young people who were shot dead. With witnesses reporting seeing a black car speed away from the scene, Tori is determined to track down the killer.

Things take an unexpected turn when Tori comes across Alisha, a nine-year-old girl who is deaf and refuses to speak. Alisha’s sign language message reveals that she may have witnessed Cam and Gracie’s killer. However, things quickly escalate when Tori receives anonymous phone calls from someone claiming to know about the shooting.

Stelljes masterfully weaves together multiple plot lines, keeping readers guessing until the very end. The characters are well developed and relatable, making it easy for readers to become invested in their storylines. My only slight issue was I found that the book drags a little towards the end. However, this is overshadowed by the overall quality of the writing and storytelling.

Overall, “The Snow Graves” is an exciting addition to Stelljes’ series and will leave readers eager for more.

The Snow Graves ( Agent Tori Hunter #5)
by Roger Stelljes

How do Agent Tori Hunter and Sheriff's Detective Will Braddock do their jobs day in and day out when the body count is so high? With this latest book, they have to go after the killers when two innocent college students are gunned down along with an innocent seventeen year old. Then there is the body count of all of those who deserve what they get. Along the way, Tori becomes phone "buddies" with a woman who is oh so very talented in the art of knocking off those who need knocking off. The story becomes a very complex and confusing mix of unsavory characters, doing what they do, knowing someday they may be one of the dead bodies littering the streets.

These bad people are even after a nine year old deaf girl. Tori, Will, and people they trust are not going to let anyone get this little girl. That's what keeps them on the job, hunting down killers before they can kill some more. There are a lot of people to keep track of here but I did a pretty good job of it. Tori's phone buddy is a very interesting character and I couldn't help sort of hoping the best for her when I knew that she was up to her eyeballs in wrongdoing. When she says that she and Tori are alike, is she right?

This is a KU selection.
