The author did a nice job conveying the angst of someone pining for someone they can’t have. It progressed well, giving the reader the chance to truly question how it would all resolve. The problem? The resolution seemed rather anticlimactic when it all came down to it.
From the beginning I got the feeling that I was missing a major plot point (this is #2 in the series). It started out with a prologue with characters that reappear briefly 2/3 of the way into the book, then in the final chapter or two. My guess is this book is not a standalone (it ends with a “ to be continued”). Fair warning.
There was also some lack of flow to the plot, failure to build up on moments that should’ve been more tense, and inconsistencies and plot holes that were hard to reconcile.
Despite the frustrations with some of the storytelling, I actually found the actual love story relatively decent. The spice was pretty solid. So yes on smut, maybe not on plot.
(As a general rule, I don’t harp on grammar, spelling, mechanics, etc., but I gotta say, spelling necklace as “neckless” definitely made me giggle.)
This was an interesting take on the vampire/supernatural lore. I was a bit confused at first, probably because I started on the second book, so that's on me.
The world-building is okay but it could have been a bit better. Maybe there's a more in-depth explanation of time periods and realms in the first book.
This is a slow-burn, angsty, love story, and the spice level is at about 3.5, and ends in somewhat of a cliffhanger.
This was a complimentary copy from BookBub, Book Barbarian, or Freebooksy and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
I normally like my book boyfriends to be morally gray but after meeting Austin I'd have to make an exception. He is such a sweet guy and it is absolutely adorable how he cares for Montana. I loved this cute story. It made me laugh and my heart melt. This book gave me the warm and fuzzies and some spice.
