An east coast transplant, Scott currently lives in Los Angeles, which is the setting for his Little Yokai urban fantasy series. He loves D&D, dressing up as a Star Wars Sandtrooper for Halloween, and playing video games. His wife claims he never disclosed these hobbies before they were married.
This was a really fun series with some great world building, and this book was no exception. I really enjoyed the new difficulties Keiko had to face - along with the overarching plot finally nearing its resolution.
And then, all of a sudden, everything was miraculously resolved and all neatly tied up in a pretty bow.
What?
I was left feeling really flat by the way it all turned out so nicely, especially given the major themes of Yōkai discrimination and challenging Yōkai/human relations and lying throughout the series. The ending just didn't fit, and it was really unsatisfying.
I found the Little Yokai books a bit before the final ones were released, and it was so hard waiting for this final bok. I'm really not ready to say goodbye to Keiko and her family. But I couldn't have asked for a more satisfying conclusion to the series. Fantastic series of books, and looking forward to more from this author.
