These 5 stars do not mean that this book will cure all of your pain and discomfort from playing guitar or bass; but I do think it is an excellent introduction to becoming aware of your body its role in playing the guitar. It is not the most in depth, nor is it comprehensively scientific to the degree of a textbook, but it is respectably rooted in a lot of experience and understanding. I am not an Alexander teacher or student, but I do have 20 years of experience playing guitar where I sustained several playing-related injuries and had to reformat my playing and understanding of the instrument to overcome them and avoid them in the future. Many of the lessons I have won for myself are identical to what is presented in the book and I admit it does a better job explaining them than I could. Not to mention some extra tips and tricks that expand upon my individual experience.

If your current thinking is, "how do I get this guitar to do what I want it to?" this would be a good book to read as it reframes everything as, "how do I allow my body to do what it needs to to play the guitar?" It will still take plenty of work to actually reformat your playing (and getting a teacher would be a huge help), but it is a great guide to get started on a healthier way of living, being, and playing your instrument. 5 stars to say this should be mandatory reading for anyone serious about playing or performance so that it may become common knowledge.
