The world is more volatile, unpredictable, and dangerous than ever before. To stop the architect of this chaos, Dempsey is given the most dangerous tasking of his career … a mission only he can complete against an adversary he must face alone.

After Task Force Ember’s successful intervention in Ukraine, John Dempsey disappears without a trace—with no notice or explanation given to his teammates. Spotty intelligence eventually places him in Russia where he is rumored to have been captured by the Russian FSB and is now presumed dead. Mourning his loss, Ember is forced to pick up the pieces, restructure, and continue their mission of keeping America safe. As the president’s “go-to” black ops asset, Ember is directed to find and finish off the Russian spymaster Arkady Zhukov and any last remnants of Zeta cell.

Unbeknownst to his teammates, Dempsey is very much alive and on mission. At behest of Vice President Jarvis, he is deep undercover—in the heart of Russia’s nexus of organized crime and politics. For his mission to succeed, he will have to team up with a man who has been his adversary—the one man in all the world he most wants dead. The risks are higher than ever, as Dempsey pursues a high-stakes plot of Russian regime change. And if he fails, the Kremlin’s retribution will be swift and terrible and certain to drag the world into World War III.

Brian Andrews and Jeffery Wilson have truly soared since they first released the debut novel in their highly successful TIER ONE series entitled Tier One. This series was my first introduction to this power house writing team, and I have followed them on every new series they have penned ever since. A reader can not go wrong picking up a novel by Andrews and Wilson.
However, the TIER ONE series will always hold a special place in my heart with John Dempsey and the entire Ember team. So, you all can probably guess how excited I was when I heard that Andrews and Wilson were releasing the seventh novel in the TIER ONE universe entitled Dempsey.

In Dempsey, the entire Ember team is mourning the sudden loss of their leader, John Dempsey. The team must reorganize, and they are hard at work to complete their mission to end the Russian spymaster, Arkady Zhukov, and his cell of Zeta operators. However, unbeknownst to the team, Dempsey has been sent on an undercover solo op by Vice President, Kelso Jarvis, into the heart of Russia. Dempsey is neck deep in the world of organized crime and politics, and he must team up with one of his greatest adversaries to complete this mission. This is by far one of the most dangerous missions Dempsey has been task with. If he succeeds, it will lead to a desperately needed regime change for Russia, but if he fails World War III may be upon us.

Dempsey is a brilliantly written novel. It has a nail bitingly exciting plot, and it keeps the pressure on till the very end. For readers that have been with the series since the beginning, there is a side plot that I was head over heels for. It revolves around an individual from Dempsey’s past that, I as a long time fan, have been mulling over in my head for a while. I was so happy they added that, and I can’t wait to see where it leaded to in the future! All in all, Dempsey is beyond brilliant. For any first time readers of this series, get ready for a ride, and for the long time fans, many many questions are answered, which naturally leads us wanting more!

Dempsey is a brand new book by Brian Andrews and Jeffrey Wilson in the Tier One series and its main charater is surprisingly Dempsey but his son is also a big part of this book. I found this one to be not the best in the series but I really like the way the authors keeps building the characters and theur history. It is a great way when you have more than one series where you can let them expand and build an universe where they live and the fact that Andrews and Wilson even have books dedicated to individuals is a great way to tell a story. I will continue following these series and I recommend that you do as well. Thanks to Blackstone Publishing and Edelweiss for letting me read this book and Andrews and Wilson, please keep up the good work.

This was different than what I thought I was going to read...it was fantastic. Obviously this is not one you should read before reading the other books preceeding it.

I’m getting a bit tired of all military thrillers but Andrews & Wilson is a must read for me. This is not the best book in the series but still very entertaining. Great character development, action packed and fast paced, I highly recommend it.

Thanks to the authors, the publisher and Edelweiss for the advanced copy.

This is book #7 in the Tier One series and I have enjoyed the whole series. It has been a solid 4.5 stars. The audiobooks are highly recommended because the narrator is just that awesome. It has been almost 3 years since the last installment came out. Definitely worth the wait.

I think this was my favorite one. I like the MC. He is well grounded and so are the other characters. I love the commradery that is built in around them. I also like the way the MC's son has worked his own POV into the stories. It is just building the suspense in that arena. I can't wait. I was prepared to give this 4 stars like all of the others in this series, but I think I just talked myself into 5.

Dempsey hits like a sledgehammer and is a relentless top tier thriller. The Tier One series is the top military thriller series in the fiction genre, and this addition is nothing but perfect. Dempsey is at the top of the 2023 reading list.

Another fantastic addition to a fantastic series!

Okay, first of all let me say how excited I was to be able to read and review this ARC. This is now one of three series that this writing duo is currently putting out and I can honestly say that I love ALL THREE series.

While this is the 7th book in this particular series, it has been a while since the last book came out. I had to go back and look at my review for the book Collateral- book 6 - and it was September of 2020 (it is now December 2022). Normally, with as many books as I read, having a 2 year time span between books would have me having to go back and peek at my review to try to remember what was going on in the series. With this series, it is so compelling and has such an amazing cast of characters that I was totally able to jump right back in as if no time had passed. I know that doesn't sound like much, but it is a big deal. I read about 20 books a week so .....

Okay. Back to the book. Without going into spoilers, this book has a very different set up than the previous books. It is very character centered and we are focused mainly on John Dempsey (JD). Something I will admit to is that when the book started, I was a little confused with exactly HOW Dempsey got into the predicament he was in. His Ember colleagues seemed to be going back and forth - acting like he was dead, then hoping he wasn't - so that had me a little confused. I DID go back and re-read the last chapter of Collateral to see if it told us what was going to happen. It did....kind of.

So, once that was settled I just decided to hold on for the ride -and what a ride it was. There are parts of this book that made my heart hurt - several actually. Dempsey definitely does not have an easy time in this book. We also got a new POV from Jake Kemper and there was a lot of attention given to him as he goes through BUD/S. I have a feeling there is going to be a storyline with Jake in the next couple of books that is not going to be an easy road.

Andrews and Wilson have already done a phenomenal job of character development in this series so I was just as invested reading about what was going on with Grimes, Munn and the Ember gang while they were separated from JD. There really isn't too much I can say that won't spoil this so all I will say is that this book was amazing. Near the end, I began to wonder whether or not a certain event was actually going to happen. The similarity to actual real world events made this even more interesting.

This is NOT a stand alone. Do not start with this book because you will miss all of the wonderful seeds that have already been planted and you will not have the level of investment that takes this book from good to great. And it was truly great.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. The opinions above are mine and mine alone.

This series started out as bit of a mixed bag for me personally. Admittedly, I was a bit critical of the first novel especially, but the authors have improved greatly as the series progressed. I'd rank the second half of this series as easily the equal to Thor, Greaney, etc. In fact, this new novel is what the Mitch Rapp novel "Red War" should have been.

"Dempsey" especially has an original premise and is more of a spy/conspiracy thriller than a hardcore military action novel like the previous books. The story beings with events well underway, with Dempsey undercover inside a Russian penal colony, where his mission is to make contact with a fictional Navalny stand-in, break out, and assassinate the fictional Putin stand-in. Completely cut off from any support from Task Force Ember or the SEALs, Dempsey can only rely on a loose, shaky partnership with assorted Russian dissidents, gangsters, hackers, and an untrustworthy former enemy. Meanwhile, the rest of Task Force Ember breaks in some new members and undertakes a side mission that will eventually coincide with Dempsey's operation. The atmosphere throughout is generally cold and bleak, with Dempsey alone, isolated, and seemingly up against the impossible. Very satisfying, rewarding reading here for longtime followers of this series. New readers would be advised to go back to at least "Collateral" before starting this one.

The Tier One series has been a favorite of mine since I read the first book a few years ago. I was excited to have this continuation of the story and see what had happened to Dempsey and the Ember team since the last book. This book was great, can’t recommend it enough! Too many things that I’d want to point out but will keep it brief to avoid too many spoilers. First, love the story and what could happen with now Vice President Kelso. Second, some of the background characters were great like Makarov. And last, I really enjoyed the parts about Dempseys son going through BUDs, hope to see him incorporated more n future books. Please keep the story going, I’m sure what ever comes next will be great!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this in advance of release.

This is another great installment for the Ember crew. We find out where Dempsey is/has been, and what the Ember crew has been up to since last we met. We also get a closer look at what Dempsy’s son has been up to on his quest to become a SEAL. All in all another great installment and I cannot wait to see who the big bad is next!

John Dempsey. A man, a myth, a legend. The Tier 1 books about the life of this individual and his team leave you wondering, could there possibly be people in the world like him. Yes, I realize the book is fiction. However, the story about a man who gives up his life and his family, everything he knew and loved for his commitment to serve and protect this country is heart wrenching. I have no doubt that there are people like John Dempsey in this world. The authors of these books have lived a of life service and understand it fully. I would be willing to bet that John Dempsey is a collection of actual service men they have encountered and had the privilege to serve with. If you enjoy military thrillers, this series is an amazing read. The world could really use a John Dempsey and Tier 1 team right now.

Brilliant semi-military escapade

I loved the action - flipping between training stages as a candidate SEAL and his most recent active deployment.
Dempsey Jnr called upon all his resources and inner strength to survive.
On the background, his team continued to support each other without being fully aware of the full picture.
This was my first foray into the world of Dempsey.
I am determined to find and read books 1 to 6 right away!

Need the next novel now.

This novel was the collimation of events from book 4 to now. Task Force Ember vs Russia. Can't wait to see what's next for Ember, Jarvis, and Jack Kemper's son Jake as he takes the steps to become an elite warfighter known as the Navy Seal.

This is probably the best Dempsey book I've read so far. This has a great storyline and some fascinating new characters. Very suspenseful, and good dialogue. I guess my only question now is, will Jake ever learn the truth about his father?
I will be waiting for the next Dempsey novel!

I have been anxiously awaiting book 7 after finishing Collateral last year. Collateral is still my favorite, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. There is less ops action in this book than in previous books, but this is still a well-written book with an interesting plot.

This book is centered around Dempsey in Russia with some Ember ops involved without Dempsey. The book is also developing Dempsey's son, Jake, and his experience going through BUDS. For those of us without any military experience or background, I think it is eye opening to get a tiny glimpse of what these dedicated men and women endure to serve our country. Since this is written by two former military servicemen, I think it is an accurate portrayal of a small piece of that world.

The new members of Ember are mentioned but there is no background on them, so they are just names in the story for now. Hopefully that will change in the next book. I also foresee that there will be a reckoning at some point between Jake and Dempsey. In this book Jake is still struggling with who his father was and how he knew him growing up.

I also liked how Dempsey was portrayed thinking and dreaming in Russian until the very end. That is a true indication that a person has been immersed in a language and/or culture. It was interesting to read about his reaction to it and the reaction of those he was around at the end of the book. I thought it gave an excellent depiction of Dempsey's acclimation to his world in his prior 6 months.

For me it's a solid 4.5 stars. I rounded up to 5 stars (which I don't usually do in this genre) because I'm fully engaged in this series and see a lot more good stories to come. These authors seem to be prolific writers; I just hope they don't burn out with all the irons/books in the fire. I love this series and hope it continues as superbly as the last 4 books.

Brian Andrews has given me one of my favorite characters, in this particular genre. A man that wants to serve his country, and his sacrificed immeasurably while doing that, and sometimes wonders if what he is doing is really serving his country. This book pushes the envelope a little further (as far as Dempsey's family is concerned), and I have started wondering how that is going to work out. This story was good, the good guys got the job done, even when everything seems to be working against them.

Excellent conclusion to this particular storyline.

The resolution is satisfying, the characters are largely believable, and the action is quite well done.

This series continues to be one of the best action/suspense series currently being written.

The seventh book of the Tier One series has Dempsey missing for 6 months and the Ember team assumes he's dead. But Dempsey is currently in a Russian prison, undercover on a mission for the VP.

It's kind of a weird dynamic, with the team operating without their leader present and them assuming he's dead. But the authors' expertise in the subject matter bring the story home as usual.
