This book is excellent. If you have a child with ADHD or suspect your child has ADHD. Thus is a must-read book. If nothing else, it makes me, as a parent, feel I am not alone in dealing with my child's behaviour. It is even nice to see written down the behaviours exhibited are common to other children as well.
There are two very important messages not to give up on a child behaviour (holding them accountable, though), and a better understanding of why children with ADHD do behave the way they do.
Every chapter of the book starts off with an inspirational quote, then breaks down a behaviour and possible strategy. As every child is different, there are a number of different responses and strategies. I especially like the age appreciate strategies and activities.
I can not say enough good things about this book it is reassuring, insightful, practical, and helpful. All I can say is thank you.
This book was word-for-word what we experience with one of our kids and was helpful in framing some of his different behaviors and the why behind it. I'm glad I bought this so I can revisit different strategies during the different stages!
I have not read this book—this is a public service announcement. A reviewer on amazon (or maybe here, as the reviews seem to be sourced one from the other) said this was written by AI and based on what I found, I believe that reviewer is correct. I searched for the publisher of this book, RBG Publishing which has only been publishing since Dec '23 and has pushed out ~20 books in ~3 months. This doesn't mean there isn't useful info but that info is available from other reputable sources (from which it was pirated) and may very well be missing important info.
Here is the only information out there (no company website): RBG PUBLISHING, LLC is a Texas Domestic Limited-Liability Company (Llc) filed on December 19, 2023. The company's filing status is listed as In Existence and its File Number is 0805345698.
The Registered Agent on file for this company is Ricardo Bass JR and is located at 13372 Pecan Glade, San Antonio, TX 78249. The company's principal address is 13372 Pecan Glade, San Antonio, TX 78249-4530.
The company has 1 contact on record. The contact is Ricardo Bass from San Antonio TX.
(Almost) everything was spot on! Loads of great ideas for supporting any child with ADHD (not just boys). I strongly disagree with chapter 9… studies into ADHD have proven reward systems are ineffective, especially when the reward isn’t immediate. Otherwise an easy read and lots of solution based ideas which was helpful, vs. just saying what’s wrong and not giving any ideas on how to support.
As I wrote on Amazon, I started reading this because I was impressed with the Mindful Emotions CBT Workbook for Kids book by the same author, but this book is totally different and reads like it was written by AI. There's something that feels off about the writing style, it's too simplistic and reads like a generic summary of other books. When you look up the author, his biography is also really generic as far as credentials go (says on Amazon that he has a bachelor's and master's in education, but no specific schools listed, no current employment, etc). He doesn't have a web site, and he's "written" books about a huge breadth of things, from autism to ADHD to CBT to DBT to speech therapy. Really suspicious.
A powerful resource for parents raising kids with ADHD
As a single mother of 3 kids, 2 boys with ADHD and a daughter with ODD, this book was so helpful to see other options for supporting children. I really appreciate Richard Bass for the information provided to better support my boys.
Boys with ADHD are so often ignored or simply medicated just to get them to calm down. I appreciate how this book avoids that and guides parents on how to interact with their son to calm them down. A must read.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Redundant and without new information for those of us with older boys or multiple children. Some of the exercises felt impractical. Who can get their ADHD son to journal their feelings let alone just finish writing out his homework assignments?
i learned so much about how i can change how i react to certain things as a parent and i am glad i read this. i took quite a few notes, and can refer back to this once my son gets into the older age groups so i can learn to cope then too.
Some pretty good tips, I’m trying some of this stuff with my kid now but not yet sure if any of it is helping. The book is laid out well tho and is easy to read and grasp the concepts.
Whether your child has ADHD or not, there is a lot of sound advice in here that mimics many other parenting lessons/programs/books I’ve been part of. I really think this is an excellent book.
A must read if you suspect your child has ADHD or if child was diagnosed with ADHD. A breath of fresh air to know you’re not alone in this parenting journey while giving you a better understanding of why ADHD boys behave the way they do. Insightful. Practical. Helpful.
