Second chance at love? or second chance at failure?
Kyndall Ten years ago, I made the mistake of falling in "love" with someone who didn't share my sentiments. It left me broken, homeless, and hopeless. Until my cousin came in to save the day. Now, that person is back, along with three surprises, after I worked diligently to move on from the damage they had done to my life and determined by hell or high water to make me a part of their family. But what happens if I don't want to play by her rules? Or will I crumble as I did ten years ago?
Melissa I am the quintessential wife to my partners, and I have a perfect life, except we're missing the right one to complete our family. But how can I find the perfect girl when I still think about the girl I abandoned to follow my dreams and help my dying Aunt so long ago? A second stroke of luck has brought her back, and I won't fumble as I did before. Will my possessive and controlling personality ruin the only chance to recapture my lost love? Or will it help me? I can't control the future, but I'll make her forgive me, and she will be mine whether she likes it or not.
This is a why choose romance. It contains mature subject matter that may not be suitable for all readers.
Teal Rose is a why choose paranormal romance addictive that took her wild ideas from her hippocampus and placed them into her writings. My main goal is to share my vision of seeing Black females being loved, heavy on the love, in these spaces.

Melissa was crazy but Kyndall, Matt, Travis and Aaron was crazy to stay with her 🤣🤣🤣. I definitely didn’t want to put this book down. This was my first read by Teal Rose and I would recommend this story for sure. I didn’t like how Kyndall let her mother win and she ran but I am happy her family waited for sure. I really enjoyed reading this story, it showed how a functioning poly relationship could look like.
First I want to say for an author to cover topics from depression and overall mental health to homophobia and overall second chances.. this was done beautifully and written so well. Kyndall being part of a poly couple is quite unique and her journey throughout this story is so great to follow.
This is a book that explores some themes that are very important. Emotional trauma, relationship issues, homophobia, dubcon, mental health issues, and most of all really this book looks at forgiveness, second chances, and love.
I adore these tropes, possessive ex, best friends to lovers, bondage play, second chances, FFMMM.
My Lord, you get so much in a very short time, and I am talking in just the prologue. I'm not used to being given so much in the prologue. But it was also nice to get it before the main story began.
It's senior year, and we find Kyndall wants to ask her best friend Melissa to prom. Kyndall has had feelings for Melissa for a while, but out of fear, she has kept those feelings secret. When she goes to ask Melissa to prom, she slips up, and instead of asking her to prom, Kyndall ends up kissing Melissa. And they do share a kiss, but then Melissa goes quiet till prom night.
That night at prom, Melissa, Kyndall, and all their friends have the night they have always dreamed of, and Melissa and Kyndall end up in bed together. She then wakes up to never see her again.
We then see the story take a 10-year jump, and Kyndall is living her best life in New York working for her cousin's boyfriend. Kyndall is making good money, completely aware of her sexuality not trying to hide anything about who or what she is. Although she is done with the one-night stands swearing them off forever. She is waiting for a man, or a woman, who is willing to commit to her the way she wants to commit to them.
Melissa, on the other hand, is happily doing her residency at a women's clinic. After her long day at the clinic, she happily goes home to her daughter and her three husbands, Matt, Trevor, and Aaron. All three men are successful partners in a business. They do have a desire to complete their family with one more woman, but they have yet to find the right one. Melissa has dreams of this woman being Kyndall.
When Melissa, her daughter, and her husbands relocated to New York City, things really started to take a turn. After Melissa runs into Kyndall, she becomes controlling and possessive, and it's a side of her that's never been seen before. At the same time, Melissa still wants Kyndall, and she's not going to take no for an answer a complete contradiction to her behavior.
Melissa makes a complete mess of everything with how she goes about things, and she's finally forced to face the question “What's your plan if we don't have a connection with her?” From her husband's one day.
Melissa gets lucky when her husband's go to Kyndall's bar of choice, and the four of them hit it off. It's just too bad that Kyndall doesn't know who they actually are.
Melissa has once again gone about everything the wrong way and caused a mess where one wouldn't be needed if she had just told the truth and been honest from the start. How it all works out, you'll have to read that to find out how the five of them work it out and make it all work, so they are all one big happy family.
I'm sorry, but this is not a why choose romance. This is not a reverse harem romance. This isn't even a polyamourous romance. This is an FF romance, and I use the term "romance" lightly.
This is the personification of toxic.
If this was a Duet, this would have been amazing.
Have to hand it to the author, though. The fact that it peeved me so much means her writing is strong. However, the characters? Not a single one is likeable.
Kyndall literally had no one on her side who truly had her best interest at heart the entire book, not even her therapist.
She doesn't officially meet any of the guys until 74%. If this was a Duet, the star rating would be entirely different. Probably 4 to 4.5. This book should have ended at 74%, and the rest expanded into a second book. The guys have like 5 pages worth a total of "screen time." But back to her official meeting with the guys. She goes to bed in her own home. In her own bed. Alone. Wakes up in Melissa's house that she'd never been to before. In Melissa's bed with one of Melissa's husbands wrapped around her. Oh, and she's naked.
When he learns Melissa lied and Kyndall hadn't agreed to move in or knew who they were, he says "fix it" and walks out. Then he tells her everything he knows about her, including how many times she masturbates. And they wonder why she looked sick.
She's then emotionally manipulated and strong holded. Melissa told her little daughter Kyndall was moving in and would be her new mum. So she's strongholds her into not speaking up. Then, she tells her she broke her lease for her, so now she's homeless if she doesn't stay. The guys? Do nothing.
At this point, the only reason I didn't dnf was because I came too far to turn back.
Kyndall instantly forgives Melissa. Literally, all she says to her is, "Forgive me." "okay". Then we get, "I'm blissfully happy, but I cry every day when I'm alone." Melissa made her quit her job. She barely speaks to her best friend/cousin because she told her, "This is a nice jail cell." She's home alone all day, every day. The solution? Let's make her pregnant because that will magically cure it and be the root of the depression.
That therapist needs to have her medical licence revoked. Instead of telling Melissa she can't see her, it's a conflict of interest when she learns who she is (because Kyndal was seeing her first and dished it all out) she encourages it. Then when Kyndal ups and runs away, and after her depression hits an extreme low when her mother calls it how it is. "You're a sex slave" (sorry but she's right there, she's a homophobic bitch but she's right). She then tells her therapist every single detail that happened in the 3 months she stopped seeing her (since Melissa showed up) and rather than help her because it's toxic as fuck. She tells her "I'm glad you called. I was worried. Your wife called she told me to tell you she loves you and will wait for you to return home" (not word for word but that's what she said).
If this was real life, Kyndal would likely be ☠️ in 2 years by suicide. The root of her problem was not solved or even addressed or acknowledged. Statistically, that toxic of a relationship would have ended in her death.
Don't get me started on Melissa. I'm glad Teal called her out. "Am I crazy? Yes, indeed" (thank fuck you acknowledged that one lol) but add self centred and selfish to the mix. She doesn't apologise or feel remorse for anything. At the start of this Kyndall was in a relationship. Melissa stole her phone and blocked her partners so she would think they ghosted her. She learned absolutely nothing. Even in the ending of the book. When Kyndall says she's going to therapy twice a week, Melissa says "that's great. We want one of those sessions for a group session" like hello you don't get to dictate someone's therapy.
Anyways the guys. There's zero substance. They have less than like 5 pages worth of "screen time". Melissa cheats on them, Lies to them and moves Kyndall into their home (through kidnapping) without them having met her properly? Not to mention the guys moved their family to another state and even bought a house before telling their wife. There's zero scenes between them and Kyndal. This is an FF "romance" where one female has a harem of guys who she's so self absorbed with they're barely present in the story but she wants them to fuck her girlfriend.

4.5 ⭐️ damn that was GOOD! This polyamorous 4 way relationship was hard to put down. Melissa, the control freak was unhinged af but she got what she wanted. Her desire and drive to fight for her girl, Kyndall was beautiful. I loved how the guys loved on both woman. The authors representation of depression and the importance of therapy was thought out and so beautifully written. 100% recommend
I read this book in one sitting!! So much happens in just the prologue…
It’s senior year, just before prom and Kyndall wants to ask Melissa. Her best friend who she has had secret feelings for. She goes to ask, but instead kisses her and after they share the kiss Melissa goes silent until prom night. Kyndall, Melissa and all of their friends enjoy their night and prom night for Kyndall ends in bed with her best friend…. only to wake up and never see her again…
Jump ahead 10 years and Kyn is finally living her life in Nee York. She works for her cousin’s boyfriend, making good money and is completely aware of her sexuality. She was done with the one night stands and was ready to find a man and a women to commit to.
Melissa is doing her residency at a women’s clinic and after her long days at work she goes home to her daughter and her husbands… Matt, Trevor and Aaron! All partners in a very successful business. They want to complete their family with one more women, but no one lives up to the secret expectations Melissa has of this women being Kyndall.
Melissa and her family relocate to NYC and things take a turn. We see a possessive and controlling side of Melissa after she bumps in to Kyndall after all these years. She still wants her and she won’t take no for an answer.
Melissa goes about things in all the wrong ways and she is faced with the question from her husbands “what’s your plan if we decided we don’t have a connection with her?”
Luckily for her when the guys go the Kyndall’s bar of choice, they hit it off….Only she doesn’t know who they are…
Once again Melissa does things the wrong way, but this story ends in happy sex filled bliss. Kyndall, Melissa and the guys are a completed family!

🚨 Author’s Note: This book explores themes around emotional trauma, relationships issues, homophobia, dubcon, and mental health issues; but most importantly; this book touches on forgiveness, second chances, and love. (From Teal Rose herself) 🚨

About Ruined:
I got to read this book as a beta reader, and now as an ARC reader. Kyndall and Melissa were best friends in high school until Melissa just got up and moved without telling anyone. Kyndall got a job working for her cousin that led her on a plane to Queens, NY. After 8 years pass and Kyndall sees Melissa again in the office of where Melissa works. Throughout the book you learn what Melissa and Kyndall have been up too and how they have been living. But, do they hit it off after all these years? Does this friendship/love end happy?
My Review:
Without giving spoilers because it’s so easy to do with how good this book is. I loved the cat and mouse kind of scenario these ladies have especially with all the history they have together. When they meet for the first time you expect them to jump right back into the friends they had but they just don’t. Kyndall is always the one trying to get Melissa’s attention.
This is about Kyndall she and her best friend from high school wanted to be more than friends but the way Kyndall grew up her mother told her it was all sorts of wrong. She didn’t know about her feelings it was just her belief. Kyndall wanted to ask Melissa to prom but she chickened out. Melissa went to prom with another classmate but they took Kyndall with her. They had a great night and Melissa went back to Kyndalls house with her. They spent the night together and when Kyndall woke up Melissa was gone. She never heard from her again until 10 years later when they ran into each other. Kyndall was not happy to see her and let her know it. Melissa never forgot about Kyndall but she didn’t know how to make things right. Melissa met and fell in love with 3 guys. One day she made Kyndall talk to her and they worked things out. Kyndall went through a lot in her past and needed therapy. I loved the book and I hope there is a 2nd to find out their next steps in life.
This book was a journey that I wouldn’t mind taking over and over again!
Teal Rose did an amazing job in writing a book that goes beyond the surface of a romance book. Our main character Kyndall’s journey deep dives into many hard hitting topics such as despression, mental health, homophobia, and second chances that I found a thoughtfully treated in the writing. In the story you see how love can sustain and grow during times of healing in one’s life—namely our main character Kyndall with our amazing poly couple. We see a diverse character list intriguing character development, and a satisfying happy ending.
Truly, an amazing read and I would suggest it 100%. All I ask is to please check for your triggers, then enjoy yourself darling!
This book had a really good premise. A highschool love story getting a redo into adulthood with some fine lookin men added. But this book was rough. It was good. I enjoyed reading it but I hated the second female lead. She was rude. Controlling. And to be honest she felt abusive. She’s a stalker. She convinced their husbands to help her kidnap Kendall in the middle of the night WHILE SHE WAS NAKED?! It felt like the plot between Kendall and Melissa was forced. Like a rush job. We want them all happy together so let’s force it to happen. I mean it all works out in the end and everyone gets therapy which I love. The husbands are caring, loving and understanding which is what every one wants in a relationship.
Loved this book! It was FFMM. Melissa is already married to two men when she runs into the one who got away Kendall who’s a woman. She decides she’s not over her at all and will have her back. She’s very possessive and controlling. & she really hurt Kyndall when they were together years ago. But she’s back now and this is her second chance to have everything she ever wanted and she’s not going to stop until she gets it. I wish she was truthful with her husbands. They knew she was looking for another female to add to their family, but she basically cheats on them with Kyndall. She knows she’s perfect for them and is willing to do anything to prove it to all of them even Kyndall. Great book. Super spicy I loved how dominant Melissa was. Very unique take on a poly relationship.
I found out about this book in my Reading Group IR Book Lounge and I'm glad I gave it a chance. I've never read anything from Teal Rose but I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more like it. Melissa was borderline crazy but I loved it. She was determined to get Kyndall and make her apart of her and her husbands lives. I like Travis, Matt and Aaron, they are good husbands and love and take care of Melissa and Kyndall. I hate that Kyndall didn't give her mama the tongue lashing that she deserved but I'm glad she found herself and took the right steps towards healing to be better for her partners, kids and herself.💌💌
Melissa and her husbands wanted to add another wife to complete their family. Lo and behold, the missing link turns out to be the very woman whose heart Melissa once broke.
I wish Kyndall didn’t have such downward spiral after Melissa’s deceit. I think it adds insult to injury to see how successful Melissa’s life had become. However, when the two reconnect, Melissa is in full go mode right from the start. She’s determined not to let this second chance slip away.
Melissa’s actions are unhinged in a way that I usually see reserved for MMC’s. It was a nice change of pace to see that behavior exhibited by a FMC.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️|🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I got this book during the BRAE event and when I tell you I am so grateful! This is a new to me author and I am hooked! I will be diving into reading her catalog. This story was set up and written so well. The character development was amazing especially with multiple MC’s. Oh and let’s not forget the spice! 🥵😮💨
Please not this book talks about depression and one of the main characters go through it. *trigger warning
I wanna say this is more like 3.5 stars. Do not get me wrong, it’s a beautiful redemption, found family, LGBTQ+, polyamory story. But it just seemed…. Impossible. Every girl dreams of a person to just sweep them off their feet and adore them and be positively involved in the relationship… but this just felt like a possessive forced loved story in some parts. Was it relatable? Somewhat. Did I immediately feel like this was a book romance that I couldn’t see in or hope to experience in real life? Yep. Overall, I can see the good and the bad of the book, and I enjoyed it 75%.
10 years ago Melissa left Kyndall without a trace. They were best friends and shared one amazing night. After 10 years and lots of therapy Kyndall is ready to start a family. She never thought she would she Melissa again and will never give her her heart. Melissa is a doctor and Marie’s to three men. They are won’t to add to their family. When Melissa runs into Kyndall she will stop at nothing to make her theirs. Melissa and Kyndall have a lot of trust issues to overcome but when they do this family will be complete
This gave me everything I needed. A dark romance, but queer friendly, sapphic focused poly relationship. Cause. Look, Melissa was tripping the deeper things got lol I loved that this didn't shy away from the messiness, the husbands were better than me though. Lol I wish there could have been more details about their group courting, but I get this was focused on Melissa and Kyndall. Thank you so much and yes, sexy dommy mommy with a possessive streak. More of these please. 🖤👌🏾
Ooooffff this book deals with so much but at the same time gives you all the feels. We are following Kyndall as she comes back in contact with her ex who wants a second chance. The only problem is her ex comes with three extra men and enough baggage for them share carrying it. Melissa goes through so many hoops to get Kyndall to trust her again. And it takes so much for Kyndall to believe she is worthy of love. This book is a why choose second chance romance that deals with homophobic families and mental health issues. If you can handle those then it is worth a read.
You won't be able to put this book down. This book deals with the struggles of two best friends that were seperated and one that always did more to get the attention of the other. When Melissa left Kyndall had to pull hernlife back together just to run into her years later and with 3 new men to boot. Melissa now must show Kyndall that she is worth the love she deserves to het her back. This book jas lots of chemistry.
Ruined by Teal Rose had great development of the female characters, not just the 2 main women but also their female family members. I would have liked to see the male characters get more definition and backstory. The second chance aspect of the romance was done well, and I appreciate the attention given to the negative fall out of the original breakup, but I felt like everyone (except my girl Alex who is a real one) forgave Melissa too easily.
This is a moving read that starts off with two best friends who have feeling much bigger than friendship. The action of one puts them on a much different path than was expected.
This book is an emotional rollercoaster and really it’s a story about owning who you are, second chances and forgiveness. The road to their HEA was not an easy one, but it’s heartfelt. I only wish more that the relationship between the men and Kyndall was explored more.
Was great book to read Kyn definitely had a hard time after Melissa had left her behind. And then when they see each other again Melissa’s possessiveness was no match for Kyndell trying to get away from her. In the end they got a happy ending. Was hoping for more since it was soo good!!
This book was written pretty well. I liked the flow and development of the story but this is not a romance. This is about a selfish and self serving woman getting what she wants regardless of other's feelings.... With some smut and polygamy thrown in.
